After reading mixed reviews regarding The Dentist for Kids dental practice, I'm here to report that our experiences have been nothing short of amazing! The reviews that caused me hesitation were pertaining to concerns of recommendations for unecesarry work. In the year and a half that my daughter didn't see the dentist we had more cavities creep up than I thought was possible, so initially I was skeptical of the proposed treatment plan. I ended up getting two treatment plan opinions. Both very similar in their recommendations. I'm writing this after our 3rd visit. Dr. Gurr is phenomenal! Each and every time we've received the same wonderful level of service. The entire office is incredibly efficient. As a very busy mom and professional who thrives on top notch customer service and process efficiency, their practice met all my expectations. We've never waited longer than 10 minutes. I always get a sense that everyone in the office is communicating up and down stream. They're so hospitable too! Speaking of, everyone in the front office is always friendly and kind. They all seem very busy, but they've never failed to offer water or coffee. Small gestures that make the customer experience a little more special. Our patient experience from beginning to end has been a 10/10! If you're looking for a new pediatric dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Gurr and his staff. read more

A lot of times you'll hear the expression 'so and so was a life saver...' but not to get too dramatic I think I can actually say this without much exaggeration for the Dr's and staff here. After months of desperately struggling to get our daughters weight up and dealing with her issues eating, it was suggested by her normal dentist that she may have whats called a 'tongue tie' and need a laser surgery to remove it. Our daughter is 13 months and I wasn't particularly pleased with the idea of her being sedated for any period of time, no matter how much we needed the surgery to get her eating up to a healthy point. Dr. Jensen and the DFK offices are one of the only places we found in San Antonio that can perform this surgery on a kid. After a brief consultation Dr. Jensen talked us through our options. He himself was very candid about what was entailed in doing surgery on such a young kid and offered us the option of perhaps coming back in a few months when anesthesia may be an option. The issue for us is that her eating was so bad pushing it off a few months was not an option. Dr Jensen and his team assured us that were confident in success of the operation and the entire process took less then a few minutes. Our daughter received light local anesthesia, was swaddled in a blanket and within a few minutes the nurse was out to tell us she was okay. A few tears were shed and we were on our way home, which is where work for us parents began. We had to do exercises on her tongue and gum for three weeks... which if ever met a 13 month old... she didn't love. But a month or so later I can report back we have a brand new kid. She not only eats, she eats with joy and gusto and has a full healthy appetite. I would say this to parents who are struggling with a child who wont eat to please visit a dentist and ask if your child may have this. THIS WAS MISSED BY NUMEROUS PEDIATRICIANS and if it had been diagnoses earlier we would have saved a lot of difficulty and heart ache trying to get her to a healthy weight. read more

Everyone here is amazing. I have two kids that get scared of dental procedures but everyone is trained to really make my kids feel better and willing to do the dental procedures they need. They're so friendly and reassure me as well. My only regret is I wasted years trying to get them to go to a dental office that did not speak to them and inspire them to be willing to be brave as the office here does. read more

First of all, the dentists here are amazing I would love to continue to visit. We initially brought my son in for a frenulectomy at 6 days old, they did a great job and everything was good. Fast forward to my son coming in for his first true dental visit... apparently no one in the office will let you know that your insurance is not accepted here. Immediately after our visit I was on the hook for a surprise $170. I would have preferred to be notified in advance and just make an appointment elsewhere. I called after receiving another bill from the office and was told someone "forgot" to notify me that they are out of network. The forgetfulness unfortunately cost me $170. read more

I took my granddaughter to The Dentist for Kids. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the dentist that we saw was very patient and fun, wearing a cartoon shirt with Bert & Ernie. They have 3 play areas for the kids while they wait and had the Lion King movie playing in another area of the waiting room read more

Son needed work done and teeth pulled, I agreed to the oral sedative due to level of work, but not very happy with care involved, expect to be charged $500 for 2 tablespoons of extremely affordable sedative - which only entails drinking and sitting alone in waiting room for 45 minutes. I felt judged constantly when asking about those costs etc... before leaving I mentioned I did not want to do sedative for remaining work and dental assistant said that should be ok he would let dentist know. When I called back they refused to do remaining work without sedative "because he did well" (no indication he wouldn't do well without) do not feel heard or respected here and they have only added additional stress to my life. read more

Was recommended by my dentist when my son was born and we've been going here since he was 1. He's now 4 and has a lot of fun going to the dentist. They have fun games for the kids while they wait. The rooms are decorated with fun kid themes and they provide a toy when they're done with the checkup. The dentists are gentle while doing their exams and help explain things. My 9 year old loves visiting the dentist here. She's had frenectomy surgery, spacers, and numerous other procedures. The staff is always welcoming and friendly and the entire experience is stress free. read more

Ever since this office changed locations, it has not been the same. It's a larger operation now and has lost all of it's charm. The front office staff used to be very helpful and accommodating, but now that is gone too. Appointments will be cancelled unless the staff confirms with you by phone the day prior. In my case this led to a completely wasted morning. This office is nowhere near where we live, and we originally chose it for all the things that are now missing. We'll be moving on. read more

Very disappointed with dentist for kids. The the last few months this office has ran late with my son's appointment and today they were 25 minutes late. When I spoke to the Dr about it. He said he did not take responsibility for their tardiness. I told him one time is ok but this has happened for the last few appointments. I had not said Anything due to COVID and I understand but come on .....every time?? When I spoke to management she laughed in My face. When I told her that my husband was in the hospital on a ventilator and sedated....she laughed. When I told her I had cancer and was going through a lot she laughed!! It was the most horrible experience. When Dr Bob was there the business was not run like this. Now dentist for kids I would not recommend to anyone. Dr. Jensen, Austin, and the entire staff are AMAZING!! They are very personable and interact with the kids to make their visit fun and exciting. We finally found an office that is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to billing and most importantly you don't have to wait 1hr after your appointment time. I always hesitate making appointments late in the afternoon because you usually have to wait 30-60min after your appointment time. Here at The Dentists for Kids, they see you within 5-10min after you checkin. The environment is kid friendly, video games for all ages, and everyone dresses up to make the kid's experience a memorable one. They got balloon animals after their cleaning and was offered apples and bananas before they walked out. When I told my 5yr old daughter we were going back to the dentist she had to make sure we were coming here. They truly left a lasting impression during her first visit. read more

The dentists and staff are caring and helpful. Everyone really helps work with each child's unique needs. This is a great practice with wonderful dentists. The plus side is that there are so many games for kids that your child loves coming here and won't want to leave! They also give the parents coffee or tea and a massage chair to sit in while your child gets his/her teeth cleaned. read more

Every person that we encountered at my daughter's visit today was just fantastic! She had sealant put on her molars and an extraction which wasnt a pleasant experience. But Austin and Dr Jensen were gentle heroes in how they worked their hardest to help her through it. The entire environment and their attitudes clearly show their hearts are really where their mouths are. Tip: arrive early so your kids get a chance to play in their arcade. read more

We love the dentist for kids. We drive about 15 miles from our house just to go here. We changed to a closer dentist for one check up and it just wasn't the same...so we came back. Megean always helps us, and she does a great job. Everyone is very friendly. Not to mention all the fun video games and toys the kids have to play while they wait. My kids ask to go early just so they have more time here. They are actually excited to go to the dentist now! I highly recommend. read more

I would not recommend going to this dentist or orthodontist. Many of the staff members have poor customer service skills including their office manager. They would be well-suited to work in another profession but not in the profession of giving health care. There is a lack of kindness and respect in general. Extremely disappointed. Have been coming to this office for years and we drive from over an hour away. Dr. Bob and his staff saw my all my children from their first visit at 3 years old. My youngest had his appointment and due to a traffic accident we arrived late. They refused to see him and I explained we had driven from over an hour way. The receptionist saw our home address and asked the back staff if they could make an exception since we drive from out of town. They said ok, after sitting in the waiting room for almost 20 minutes the receptionist comes back and states they will not be able to perform the full exam. Dr. Bob and his staff would've never treated us this way. Sad to say this is the will be the last visit here, time to change providers since I can't risk be turned away for unforeseen circumstances. read more

Dr. Jensen and staff were great at making my son feel comfortable. They really took their time to explain and answer any questions.

Used to be a good dental practice. Now, they don't work with you on appointment times and are WAY too expensive. I am a single parent and work full time but I have to take 3 hours off work to bring my son in so they can snip a piece of wire that is sticking out and cutting the inside of his mouth. I pay thousands of dollars for his orthodontic care but can't get an appointment time in the late afternoon - unacceptable! They only work until 4:30 - must be nice! Will be looking for another dental practice for regular dental care for my kids and will take my other kids to a different orthodontist. read more

We have been with the Dentists for Kids for more than 12 years now. We started out as patients for our son who had had a fall at daycare and dental injury when he was only about 18 months old. Our kids actually love coming to the dentist. On a different note, our teenage son fell asleep while having a cavity filled and the dentist recommended we talk with our pediatrician about possible sleep apnea because our son was snoring.
