This popped up as a reminder to review, which for two reasons was weird: 1) it's been 2 years since I was on my 10,500 mile road trip and stopped in; 2) this place is so good that I was thinking about it the other day LOL! First time here. Had the train wreck. It's just enough to last thru dinner. My tea glass never got close to being empty. Sara was great she never asked if I wanted more water or tea. I just got more. This is a decent spot to grab an OK meal. It's nothing fancy and it doesn't try to be, which I can respect. The staff is friendly and the food is pretty good, but nothing special. That's not necessarily a negative thing. It's just what I experienced. For context, this review is coming from some guy who briefly visited the area and ate here twice, once during non-busy hours and once during busy hours. I ate breakfast both times. Yes, this is probably going to sound like someone nitpicking a little bit, but I literally have nothing better to do than write this review right now, and this is all my honest opinion. I hope it's helpful not only to potential customers, but to management as well. The first time I ate here, I had the Gravy Train. It was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of gravy. I believe the menu said it was "smothered" with sausage gravy, and in that regard, mine definitely wasn't smothered. It was a bit dry. I respectfully asked for just a little more gravy, and the young man serving me kindly obliged. Other than that, the meal was great. I also noticed that during the non-busy hours, the music didn't really match the atmosphere. I believe they were playing a local rock radio station over the speakers. In my opinion, it just didn't fit the vibe of the restaurant. I'm a rock music fan myself, so it wasn't that I disliked the music. It just seemed out of place. Again, that's completely subjective. What irked me more was that there were no paper towels in the bathroom. The second time I ate here was during busy hours on a Sunday morning. I already had a feeling the wait would be long, and it was. That's to be expected. It seems to be a popular place, and they were busy. I ordered the Casey Jones. The pancakes were unusually flat compared to most pancakes I've had. I respectfully asked the waitress if that was normal for this restaurant, and she kindly told me that it was. She offered to have them remade "fluffier," which I respectfully declined. They were also just a tad overcooked, in my opinion. They weren't bad. They tasted like pancakes, so they were fine, but they were a bit stiff and had that firmness that an overcooked pancake tends to have. It was busy, though, and I know they were doing their best. I also ordered a cup of grits on the side. The cup was less than half full, which I thought was a little odd. The grits were also a bit thick. I know that's entirely a matter of preference because different people like their grits at different consistencies. Otherwise, they tasted just fine once I mixed in some butter. All in all, it was a decent meal. Nothing blew me away, and there were several little things that I think could be improved, but nothing was outright terrible either. The staff are super friendly, and that was probably the biggest positive of both visits. The owner even remembered my name, which, considering how busy the restaurant was on Sunday morning, was genuinely impressive. It's an unpretentious local breakfast spot serving OK food with genuinely friendly people. There's room for improvement, but I don't regret eating here. As an option in Leavenworth this is a hit. Super traditional, busy every day of the week, and a great choice for breakfast, lunch, and/or early dinner. Wonderful staff as well. However, truly traditional and not much flavor or things to write home about. We will totally try again to see, but in my opinion a local staple no matter the flavor. read more

The food is so good and worth the wait. We waited about an hour on a Sunday morning. But once we got our food it was worth it. The sweet and spicy bacon was a hit and so was the chicken hash. I have eaten at this place more times than I can count and I have NEVER had bad food. There is a reason there is a line out of the door on most days and it's 100% because the food and service here is amazing. I really wish I had experience with more of the food but I can't break away from the same 3 things (the gravy train, huevos rancheros, smoked chicken hash benedict). I wanted to give a positive comment about some associates in our Leavenworth/Lansing KS store for yesterday 22March purchase. Generally speaking, this is a decent place to either get breakfast, lunch, or brunch. I don't think I have ever been here when there was not a wait so be prepared for no more than 15 minutes. While visiting Leavenworth, I had a few mornings with enough time to get a decent breakfast. The Depot was highly rated, and did not disappoint. My wife and I tried two of the hash/Benedict breakfast plates, and both were amazing. The coffee was excellent and they left a carafe on the table for refills. Finally - there was a changing table in the men's restroom, which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine with restaurants. Thank you for that! read more

Wow!! What a treat!! The Depot was a bright spot in our trip to Leavenworth. Grace was an amazing server and took excellent care of us. I had 2 eggs, delicious crispy hash browns, and 3 sausage patties. I ordered two extra patties because they were so delicious. My wife had some eggs, biscuits and gravy and sausage as well. She got some hashbrowns, too. She loved every bite of all of it. I thought the restaurant was very cute and definitely a historic building. We were immediately greeted by one of the waiters, led to our table and got our drinks. The server was a bit loud but he was kind and attentive. I had the steak salad with a fruit cup on the side. Husband had the lady marmalade and chicken tenders and fries for our babies. My food was good, steak was cooked just like I wanted. Husband liked his burger but it was a little too sweet for his taste. Our babies chicken tenders were a little passed crispy for them to eat it so they just ate the fries and snacked on the complementary cinnamon rolls the waiter brought for them. Which was also good. Mac and cheese was okay in my opinion. At the end we went to pay and the lady in the front did not acknowledge us there at all and was having a conversation with another woman on the side. She just waved and said to tap our card when we're ready. On top of that we find out our kids food isn't $6 like it says on the paper they give you, it's actually $14 for the burnt chicken tenter pieces and fries with a kiddy cup. In total our entire meal was a little over $66. It was an alright experience eating here. Inside looks clean. Waiters are nice. Tables are a little crowded next to each other. Stopped by here to have breakfast with a coworker before a conference. He had biscuit and gravy and I had 2 eggs, ham, and hash browns. We also had coffee and orange juice. It was all hot and fresh and very tasty. The wait staff was amazing! They were attentive to our table and were quick to respond with condiments we ran out of. I would have given it 5 stars but the lady at the desk who took my payment did not even speak to me. She took the bill, pointed silently at the payment screen and acted as if we were not there. Simply amazing! The location could not be more adorable, still all of the original woodwork from the 1800s beautiful location! Then there is the food, I have never in my life had better bacon than the sweet and sour bacon that I had as my appetizer today. I cannot believe I've been eating bacon wrong my entire life before now, but I'm not sure any other bacon will ever hold up to this. The cinnamon rolls were heavenly, and my breakfast meal was absolutely delicious. Not a single bite of it was out of place. Our server Dylan was so sweet and took great care of us and even the owner Mary , who is very hands on, cleaning tables and working the floor, came to our table for a chat! Really lovely place for breakfast, with wait staff that are friendly and attentive. Got the egg white omelette, came stuffed with goat cheese and sautéed spinach. Their menu is pretty large, so it's easy to find something for everyone. They're happy to substitute sides, or to add cheese/avocado whatever to your meal.
