Follow your nose to a tucked away corner on the 3rd floor to find the tiniest little kitchen serving some delicious breakfast and lunch food. The Painted Rooster by the sweetest elderly couple you've ever talked to. It's only open on First Friday weekends (when Bella Patina is open) until 2 pm, so you always need to plan ahead and incorporate this breakfast stop into your First Friday antiquing. You place your order at the counter and give your name. When your food is ready, they call your name and bring your food over to you. This gets a little chaotic when it starts to get busy. The space is small with a couple of tables, so it gets packed quickly. The breakfast burrito is comfortingly delicious and generously sized for the price. Don't forget the homemade salsa over by the silverware and napkins under the windows. There are always freshly homemade baked goods that you must indulge in. Biscuits and gravy for daaaaayyyyysss. On the third floor of Bella Patina tucked into a corner is Paint d Rooster, a sweet gem of a breakfast and lunch place. In addition to biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs we also got a cinnamon roll and the pumpkin cake. I was a little skeptical since they were Saran wrapped but they were moist and fresh. My husband was thrilled that they don't use nuts since he is allergic. Plenty of seating & people were willing to share large tables. It is family owned & run. This adorable place is located on the third floor of Bella Patina in the west bottoms. They are there the first weekend of the month. It is a mother and her daughter and son-in-law is the chef. Mother is the baker. The have a few sandwiches, breakfast burritos, quiche and biscuits and gravy. Everything is made as you order. We had breakfast burritos. Hands down best in KC. They are just the right size with hand cut potatoes, cheese, tomato, egg, big chunks of sausage and a hint of cilantro. Tortillas had to be homemade. And of course being made there on a stove you can custom make your burrito. They had hibiscus water today and it was delicious. They serve Blip coffee and it tastes like you were at Blip. Very smooth. There is plenty of seating and you can shop around while you wait. Very sweet family. read more

I stopped by here to grab a drink but it all smelled so good I had to try something! I got the breakfast burrito and hibiscus water and they were both great! I ended up coming back later in the day with my son. I had told him about it and he was excited to check it out, he was sold after I mentioned the cinnamon rolls lol. We shared a half biscuit and gravy and it's the best I've had. We also got the Cuban sandwich and it was amazing too! The pulled pork in it was yummy! I don't think you can go wrong here. The small business inside a small business. The charm is similar like a mom and pop shop or a grandma grandpa breakfast spot. I ordered breakfast, it had a few options, the scratch biscuits sausage black pepper gravy was very comforting and very heavy. For those big eaters, I definitely think it's doable and just enough to satisfy their hunger. I also ordered a breakfast burrito which is quite hearty. You get a 9 inch tortilla, with potatoes, onions, and other vegetables in it. The flavors were very Kansas City very centric around the meat and potatoes flavor without the modern flair. The potatoes are cooked excellent, the burritos are wrapped great and the biscuits and gravy resonated some thing from my childhood growing up in Omaha Nebraska. It's a nice set up for families which includes open seating with your family tables, individual tables and kids are very well behaved because the amount of stuff that catches their attention. I definitely think it's good for families and groups. Coffee is on the house a nice trip coffee and the people in the adjacent businesses and painted rooster businesses are all focused on making their businesses good and successful. I was a little confused going in, as you're walking through these antique shops you have to go to the third floor don't be turned away because of having to cross the antique shops go upstairs instead make the journey enjoy the ambience which I give a 10! read more

Hands down one of the best and kindest service I've ever received. This cafe restaurant is very obviously family owned and operated. We've got mama and pappi taking orders, their kids are the chefs, and the grand kiddos are the food runners and bussers. I ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy and added a sunny side up egg. My friend ordered tacos. We both wanted the quiche but it was cold out (good sign). I loved my order though. I don't generally finish any of my meals but I devoured this. The perfect flavor. Most B&Gs I order are too salty and this was not an issue here. My friend really liked his tacos and there was a large amount of meat in his tacos. The restaurant itself was hard for us to find just bc of the nature of the West Bottoms. Just remember to look for the Patina Building. On Saturday's in Liberty, Mo., the historic town square is converted into an impromptu farmer's market. Fresh meats and veggies are sold along side local wares and small batch food stuffs. One of the highlights is the Painted Rooster, a family-run food stall that serves up tasty brunch themed items. The name is an English translation of Gallo Pinto, a Costa Rican staple (think fried rice with black beans in it and a decidedly Latin America flavor profile). In fact, there was Gallo Pinto in the breakfast burritos. I had the biscuits and gravy with a fried egg on top. The eggs came from the vendor in the stall next to them and the yolk could blind you it is so bright and beautiful. That was really tasty. So I had them box me up a burrito to go and it came with amazing freshly made Pico and it was really good as well. They had baked goods, I saw cookies and scones. Plus they had personal quiches. It's like a greatest hits album, no filler. Big brunch fan if you can't tell. They also had agua fresca made out of watermelon and lime. I think the dad is a Spanish teacher or something which explains the Latin flavor. Pricing was good too. I don't think anything on the menu was more than five bucks. Which for made-from-scratch and tasty is pretty surprising these days. Buzz words like homemade, organic, or local usually mean jacked up prices. The whole family seems to pitch in. Mom and dad cook it up, grandma and grandpa serve it up and the kids, well, they run around in circles cuz their kids. The food is great and it fits perfectly with the fresh, friendly atmosphere that farmer's markets are all about.
