I typically would never write a negative review but I will never go back to the desert bar! Long story short, We went on a night ride. Stopped for 1 drink on top of a hill in the desert with zero trespassing signs. We were not in the parking lot or anywhere near. The owner, drunk, enraged and totally out of line ran out into the desert screaming, cussing, being rude and aggressive as all hell. Told us he was calling the cops, in which we agreed since we did NOTHING wrong. He told us to eff off and that he didn't like "our kind". The off-roaders. Well sir, "OUR KIND" are the kind that keep your bar open. The ones that promote you, support you, spend our money on you and keep your business running. "OUR KIND" is one big family and we support businesses that support us. On a side note- we loved ur fries and atmosphere of your place, but your attitude sucks and your rude as hell sir. read more

The Desert Bar was quite an experience - and it was all about the experience. Don't come expecting great food. Come for the drinks, interesting layout and the music. We were told about it and thought it might be cool to visit a bar in the middle of the desert. Only open weekends so we had to go TODAY! before we left town. Punched it into Google maps but somewhere along the way I lost cell-service. Got directions and turned off the highway onto a rough, unpaved road. Glad our rental car was closer to an SUV. Crawling along at around 10-20 mph on the windy, bumpy road. Where is this place? Is there really a bar out here? Eventually (20 minutes?) we spotted a building and knew out journey was over. Lots of vehicles were in the parking lot - so it is a popular place. Once inside, there is a lot of space. Lots of tables, covered and un-covered areas, indoors and out. Fun to grab some cheap drinks and walk around the grounds. A great band was playing a wide variety of music - rock, country, 80s. Food - passible but not great. We got salmon burgers which were just a cooked salmon patty on buns. No toppings other than ketchup and mustard are available. Garlic fries were good. Normally, I don't buy t-shirts with the name of a bar on it but this place - and the journey getting here - was cool enough that we bought some. read more

Aptly named, The Desert Bar is off the beaten path. The 6-mile dirt road off the 95 isn't a particularly fun drive, so make sure to bring your truck or SUV. However, once you get there you'll forget all about the dusty trip to get there. Open on weekends, and with extended holiday hours, The Desert Bar has lots of seating and live music. There are two stages. When we were there the band was playing on the lower stage, but the music could be heard throughout the canyon. The better food is found on the lower deck. I had the pulled pork sandwich with maple bourbon sauce for lunch and it was terrific. Sandwiches are large so you might want to split one with someone else. My only gripe about this place is the beer selection - no craft beer. However, there is a full bar. The Desert Bar is also dog friendly and kid friendly, so bring the whole family! read more

We didn't realize the road out was so long and bumpy so we took our big dully Ram and it was slow going but if you don't mind the drive or you have ORVs it is an awesome place. This place is a MUST VISIT if you find yourself in Lake Havasu, it's even a worthwhile detour if you find yourself on the 10 going to or from California and passing by the Quartzsite/Parker area. Check their facebook/website first to see if they're open, they are only open in the winter and close at sunset, but sometimes that changes. It's hard to describe to others, but it's a bar built into the middle of the desert. Solar powered. You won't totally understand until you see it. They sell bar food- burgers, fries, hot dogs, nachos etcetera. You're not going for the food. Usually live music happening, great place to go and hang out with family and friends for a few hours. It never happened to me on any of my visits, but local lore tells that famous bands have randomly showed up and played. Make sure you visit the restrooms which have an incredible view of the desert. Walk around just to admire the construction of the place, it really is unique. Take a sweater as there is no heat! Bar has an indoor area, but it is small. I've made it out in a Toyota Corolla and a mustang convertible, don't be scared of the dirt road, you'll make it! It'll feel like you're driving into the middle of nowhere desert, possibly to your death, but then the bar appears and you will be AMAZED! read more

So there is about a 4 mile fairly rough road to get back to the place. The road is not graded so definitely a side by side, jeep, truck, anything but a car, because there is a place or two that you will bottom out on the road leading in to it. Once you are there though what an absolutely unique awesome experience. Everywhere you look there is something cool to see. The guy that built it or is building it is a visionary. I've gone back and forth on how many stars I was going to give this place, over the past 24 hours. I decided to go with 5, but will preface my review with this suggestion: DO NOT COME TO THE DESERT BAR HUNGRY ON THANKSGIVING DAY! I was super excited to be de-virginized by coming here! All summer I kept getting teased over how amazing this place was. I'm a pre-planner, so I did my research/homework and first learned they'd be serving turkey. Score! I knew I wanted to arrive when they opened (we literally got there 30 minutes prior to that) to get some great photos in before the herds of people arrived. Not to mention, put our food order in. Well, I saw on Facebook where the bar had mentioned later NOT to count on the turkey, since they couldn't guarantee when it would arrive. No problem. I assumed we'd skip that expectation, eat something different there for lunch (the burgers, sandwiches, and other menu items sounded yummy), and enjoy a holiday dinner instead over at the Blue Water Grille. So what was the problem? They served NO FOOD at all, and we were there for 2 1/2 hours. DOH! We had a strong buzz off a single beer each, plus a bloody mary (delicious by the way), and were lucky enough to score a bag of sour cream and onion chips to avoid grazing on napkins! I get that some people ride in on their ATV's, dirt bikes, trucks, and jeeps to just pound a few and head out, but some of us drive straight from California and wanted to stay longer. #yesiamwhining I asked the bartender, who was super kind at first but got a tad snippy later (maybe from all the customer questions relative to hunger pangs) if we could bring some snacks in from the truck. She rudely told me no and that we couldn't even eat in our vehicle, but had to drive off the actual property. #insertdeerintheheadlightslook Alrighty then.....Our cash flow will stop here, plain and simple. (Yes, I know they still make a killing every other weekend day of the winter/spring season, and I won't put them out of business). The 5-stars is being kept because this place is truly spectacular!!!! The drive in and out makes your boobs sore and tests your full bladder. Who wouldn't love that?! The layout allows for sitting in the sun or shade, some place quiet or surrounded by music, and near scenery or hidden away. Their drinks are cheap and strong. The other customers become your new best friends. The area reminds you of being at an antique auto show, a horseshoe arts and crafts display, or backyard oasis. I was warned ahead of time that the owner was a little "edgy," and saw/heard him in true fashion while speaking to a father and his young daughter. I'm guessing they were my "starvation siblings" and he had been asked the food question one time too many. No worries. Water under the bridge. Come to this place on any other day and chances are you'll meet the adorable Austin. He and I got to chatting between stomach growls (oh yeah, he misunderstood the food available also, but usually cooks/flips burgers as an employee there). He sold me on definitely returning to try their other menu choices and witness how packed it gets. Not an empty seat I'm told. As we left, I tossed Austin a banana. What was originally brought up as a fruit that was too healthy for him, became a welcoming appetizer until he and others around could grub once more!! read more

When things require a little effort and planning the rewards are all the more sweeter. So we were hanging out at the river looking for something different to do and someone said, "Anyone know how to get to the Desert Bar?" I had never even heard of it. We stopped in a few places along the way to "get directions" from the locals. If you have low clearance take a different vehicle. If you enjoy dirt roads, this one isn't bad, in fact we had fun on it. Although we weren't sure if we were on the right dirt road, eventually our quest ended uphill at a steeple. Plastic cups and paper plates with classic picnic style food, this place is a twist on your typical Americana. The food isn't bad, it's just not the main reason you come here. The Structures are in contrast to the desert surrounding. I love the view from the women's room and the heavy metal stalls. I can't compare it to anything else. It certaining has a lot of character all it's own. The giant tower swamp coolers really work as the push out a cool moist breeze over the bar area. We were so surprised to see so many interesting types of people who like us just happened upon the place. Worth another trip back. I'm interested to see what other improvements have been made. read more

An absolute gem! Not often do you find bar where you have to off-road for 5 miles to the middle of nowhere to get to. It was exhilirating adventure just getting there! The Desert Bar is located on an old mining camp deep in the Buckskin Mountains. The self-sustaining buildings are made of scrap metal: random odds and ends they could find. I felt I was at the grown up verison of Disneyland's frontierland with so many different props. Everything was so surreal! I wanted to walk around and explore for hours. For instance, there are two very large rock formations behind the bar that you can explore. There's a "church" in the parking lot which was kind of neat. And also, the ladies restrooom was really cool with a open view of the desert. Very cool! I came here on new year's day with a party of 9. You pretty much sit anywhere you find a seat. Hotdogs, burgers, and pizzas. $2.75 for can beers. There was a cover band that played mostly classic rock. The bar is closed during the summer because of the heat. Be sure to check out their website before you plan to visit. Bring cash, bring a four wheel drive, and bring boots. Don't wear heels or stilettos ladies, or you will learn the hard way. What an absolute treat to put this on Yelp! I know I shouldn't do it because I betcha a lot of River Locals don't even know this bar exist! I have been coming to the river for the last 18 years and only learned about it a few years ago! This place is through the sand outside of Parker Arizona. You drive through the sand and you come across this place where you will be lucky if you get a parking spot but remember these people are drinking folks, (yelpers you'll fit right in), so be careful coming and going. There is always a band that is playing the old time favorites and people out in the sun drinking their drinks, eating something off of the grill and listening to some good ole music! A combination of Mad Max, Water World, and Easy Rider. The Bar in Desert--as I like to call it--is a very special place. After a 15 minute dusty off-road ride, you arrive thirsty and ready to party with some awesome live music. I like that the place is totally off the grid. The giant towers are actually swamp cooler systems. And the eletricity comes from solar panels and is stored in a huge collection of powerful lithium batteris (near the restrooms). This Valentines Holiday it was nearly fully packed at Noon. It's obvious that the bar expands a little every year but, it's still totally off the grid which is cool. Everything is run off of solar generators, they have a live band, and a full bar, and grilled food. This place is unique and a must do when visiting the area. Let me start by saying what this isn't. It isn't a tiny little new secret bar. Now, what it is: It's been here forever, it could hold hundreds of people, super popular, a LOT of fun, fair priced beer, good food, amazing views, in the middle of nowhere, great live music, and fun people. I drive a 2 wheel drive Rav4 and this was no problem to get to. You could drive here in anything, however, there is a LOT of traffic from 4x4 vehicles, and they're like an auto-show for a four wheeling enthusiast. My friends and I are already planning a Colorado river kayak trip and campout that will have many a visit to the Desert Bar. See you there! read more

If you are ANYWHERE near this place, and you love unique places that should be on TV - you gotta do what it takes to go here! Completely off the grid - powered by solar and only open on weekends Oct - Apr, from "high noon - 6pm". You travel 6 miles on a horrible dirt road into the Buckskin Mountains that make it completely part of the experience. We got there about 45 minutes after opening and appeared to be about 300 people who made it there before us, because even tho the place was completely packed we were able to find tables no problem. Pulled pork or Triple tip sandwiches, Gyros or hamburgers - can't go wrong. There's a lot going on with the crowds of people, music, people watching and everyone is just happy and having a good time.
