I love bars that have a throw back feel and The Devil's Acre does it right. We stopped by here before a dinner with friends as we had seen it from the street but had never been inside. We just ordered one drink but it was really tasty and a great environment. It took a little while for the drink to be made as there was only one bartender. Delicious cocktails. We stopped in for a few drinks before a meal recently and were pleased. The theme is amusing. The drinks menu seemed to lean a bit to the sweet side, which is not my preference, but I was able to find things I enjoyed. The Three Sworn Enemies seems to be their most popular drink, and did not disappoint. 4 stars because I liked the drinks and the atmosphere, but not the best cocktails I've had around here, and it was quite loud despite being pretty empty. read more

When we were walking around north beach looking for a bar that wasn't already bustling with people, we stumbled upon The Devil's Acre. The sweet host told us that there was seating downstairs too; curiously we walked down to find a small cozy little space that could fit 20-25 people at max. They had a separate bar downstairs (very sweet bartender, I wish I remembered her name), no table service though. We sat there for an hour or so after which we were moved upstairs as they were closing the basement for a private event. Our waitress upstairs was a little ignorant and took forever to take our order. But when she did, she was helpful in getting me a drink that I needed customized. Over a time span of 2-2.5 hours we tried the Bourbon Crusta, St. Croix Fix, the Dealers Choice (customized ) and Cruzan rum with Coke. All drinks were delish, not to forget that their menu is very innovative! I would go back to try the other options on their menu :) read more

I walked in here on a whim thinking that it was a bar that I saw on a TV show (Best Bars in America). Turns out the place was not on the show, but it should have been because the place was amazing. The mixologist don't give a f*** about anything other than your cocktail. And if you push hard enough you might even get them to battle over "who makes the best Old Fashion". But watch out... you may end up with a splash of mezcal in your Old Fashion. Those that know me, know that... I drink... a lot. This is the best bar I have ever been to. Showed up at our reservation time and ended up waiting for quite a while. They were busy however when you make reservations to a bar / lounge and are on time you should feel welcomed and brought to your table in a acceptable amount of time. This wasn't the case. We waited about 20 minutes and felt like it didn't matter that we stayed or left. The space is nice. Definitely a throw back in time. Music was mostly 80's which was kind of cool. The thing that wasn't good was the service. After we were seated it took another 20 minutes to take our drink order. So we are now 40 minutes in and we are all starting to feel annoyed. There was literally one or two servers serving an entire seated reservation area. Not great on a Sat. night. The drinks took another 25 minutes and were average at best. The place is supposed to be about mixology and flavorful cocktails. We all didn't find this to be the case. There are definitely better places in the SF for craft cocktails. read more

We met Randy the bar tender last night when we were out for my friends re-bachelorette party. We had never been to The Devil's Acre before but happened to walk by and it looked fun. SO glad we went in! Randy is amazing! He created fantastic drinks for us, celebrated my friend and helped us make the night memorable, and came up with a really fun and creative mini shot experience none of us had ever had. Ask him about it (it involves smelling jasmine essence before taking a root beer-ish shot). He totally made our night! Amazing space, great drinks, friendly bartenders and maître d' - a very nice addition to north beach. However, none of that matters because the acoustics suck. I have yet to find a really fun bar in SF that has correctly managed their sound. No sign of ceiling baffles or sound panels or sound absorbing drapery or anything. I had to yell the entire time I was there and the bar wasn't even full. I lost my voice, didn't get it back until late the next day. I wish bars here would realize that you can have amazing energy and ambiance without insane noise - they do it beautifully in NYC why not here? I'm baffled. read more

I give five stars to the fantastic bartenders here however the security staff was beyond aggressive and ready to fight. Super great night that ended awful due to a security guard who was ready to throw punches. Left this place after spending a nice amount of money feeling sickened by one staff member. I will never return here and you can find much better places in the city to spend your money. The security guard with his ear piece told me he hates humans and dealing with them. I have been here several times on different occasions. Most the time I have had a decent time, excluding the time I ordered a whiskey drink and found a fly at the bottom of my ice cube. The most recent time I was very excited because I was able to make reservations via yelp on New Years Eve around 8pm! That day I confirmed my reservation with yelp through text. My girlfriend and I got some drinks down the street at Comstock and by the time my reservation was ready we walked up the street. We got to Devil's Acre and there was no one there except one bartender cleaning glasses and the doors were locked! I called their phone several times and no one answered but I did leave a message expressing my preicament and left my name and phone number. I understand being closed for a private party for New Years Eve but the fact that I was able to make a reservation, confirm said reservation, and no one answered the phone to make amends is ridiculous and insulting! I called a few days later to get some answers and still no one answered. I will not be coming after this experience also considering Comstock Saloon and 15 Romolo are closeby. read more
