Very fun little bar close to Union square but far enough off the beaten path that it didn't feel touristy or too crowded. The bartender was only one working there when we arrived just after 4. He told us to sit wherever and come order at the bar. We were chatting and just about ready when he seeing by and grabbed our orders, since he was delivering nearby anyway. Very kind person! There were already at least 3 groups of 2 when we arrived (it opens at 4 so some people must have been here right away) and my the time we left an hour later it was packed! Must be a local favorite. I really liked the lighting and the big owl on the wall! The bar felt unique and vintage! We grabbed a seasonal cocktail, some cider aperol spritz and it was fine. You could order food via a QR code at the table. Seemed like it was coming from a partner location. Only drinks this time but I'm really glad we stopped by. Cute neighborhood bar. Not too big but not so small that it's too tight inside. There are maybe 4-6 tables and a bar that can seat about 10 people. We went on Black Friday around 4pm, right after Thanksgiving and it wasn't very busy but still a lively vibe. The bartender was super friendly. The bar itself is nicely decorated and felt very welcoming. The drinks were pretty strong but nicely balanced and good flavor. My wife had a banana cocktail, my daughter had a pear sour cocktail, and I had a beer on draft. The cocktails were really good - not too sweet. Next we ordered old fashioneds and they were also nicely balanced, not too sweet. If back in the area again I would like to come back. read more

Stopped off here after checking out a bar the next block over. I like the homage to the owner who loves owls. Got service pretty quick here and the bar staff were nice. The atmosphere was welcoming and had a chill vibe, with lots of cute and quirky owl decor and art throughout. The place was packed with people on a Saturday night, but seats opened up at the bar in no time, so it worked out. Great service from the bartender. The old fashioned and hootie hoo gin and tonic were your classic cocktails but with fancier names on the "Wet Your Beak" menu, and made well. Nice little bar near union square. They have good drinks and nice customer service. We had a couple of la Paloma's and were surprised that the charge was a couple bucks more than the menu price. Stopped by here after the Christmas pop up bar around the corner was closed. Surprised to see this bar had no line and was a little empty. A win for us! Owl tree has lots of owl decorations so the name is very suiting. It was nicely decorated for Christmas and the drinks are reasonable! Cocktails under $14! Nice booth and table seating. They had sports on one tv screen and a GoPro promo video on the other so that was kind of strange. Not sure what the clientele was but the old fashioned and Manhattan was nicely made. super cozy local spot! swung by on a friday night with a group of 4 and it wasn't too busy, we got a booth immediately. the bartender was attentive (not hard to flag down at all) and really nice - she took the time to make a custom mocktaiil for my friend. she knew a lot of the customers personally - it seemed like a local go-to spot. we were looking for a more chill bar where we could just chat and hang out and this fit the bill perfectly. drinks were great too! read more

Dropped by for some pregame drinks with a friend and this place did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly - talkative and clearly close with the regulars but not too chatty that we felt they were in our face or anything. The drinks were HEAVY pours which we appreciated since we were there to pregame for a concert. The shots were huge!! Small corner of the street bar with a locals heavy vibe. I have walked by this bar soooo many times and when a friend said let's go I didn't hesitate to say yes. What a fun little gem this place is. Friendly staff, decent prices, and delicious drinks what more could you ask for? Well, Owl Tree provided a cozy not overly crowded seating area, fun music, festive decor and very cool owl sculpture on the back wall. My favorite part was the super friendly staff who greeted me with a smile and helped me pick out a drink. Will def be coming back and won't be walking past it as much anymore. Must try. read more

I stopped into Owl Tree with some friends around midnight. They had security at the door to check ID's and they were super friendly, which is always a great thing when checking out a new bar. It wasn't overly crowded, and we found a table to hang out at while we enjoyed our drinks. One of our friends went up to the bar to order and the bartender was nice enough to deliver them straight to the table. I wonder if this is both good service and a safety measure. Either way, I noticed it and appreciate it. I'll definitely keep this spot in mind for my next SF trip. read more

Stopped in for a few drinks. The female bartender was so friendly and polite. We were in a booth and she always checked on us even though the place was packed to the gills. Great upbeat atmosphere with good music. Nice young man at the door checking Id's etc. He also checked on us to make sure we didn't need anything. We will definitely go back. read more

The bar at our hotel wasn't open yet so the six of us decided to go here for a drink. Outstanding decision. Great little neighborhood bar. Very clean and great drinks. Stumbled across this little gem during date night- I can't remember the bartenders name, but she was a whole vibe! immediately asked us what we wanted to drink, and if we had a song that we wanted to hear she would play for us. As a bartender myself, i definitely appreciate the acknowledgment and not just look at us and ignore you (yes I've had that happen plenty of times at bars) when we told her we just had a baby and it was our first night out- she poured us up another shot and then said "let me see your phone" and took some pics of us. She had a whole bar and tables full but she made you feel like no one else was there and gave you undivided attention. I'm from Oakland and we still go back from time to time just cause of her. Sadly, we haven't gotten her again but the other bartenders are just as attentive and great. Definitely recommended. read more

I was spending the day downtown and wanted a place to take a break, sit and grab a drink. Owl Tree offered the perfect place for some R&R. The space is clean with a lot of seating options. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. I got the Paloma and my husband got the Moscow Mule. Drinks were very reasonably priced and definitely no skimping on the alcohol. There's also a few TVs around to watch the game. Overall, a solid stop when looking for some quiet downtown. read more

Dish washing method is a little questionable. Looks like a rinse with no soap. In SF. You need a little more than that. Don't know if the bartender has enough velocity in her shaking of drinks. But wouldn't avoid it. Just wouldn't seek it out. Came for a whiskey sour. They can make one. But no egg whites. Don't know if that can be called a whiskey sour. Jack and coke was strong enough. Was in San Francisco for a week and came to this spot around the corner from my hotel and I can honestly say that they treated me with respect and all the staff were super friendly. Made me feel really comfortable. Good ambiance and overall a good spot to relax and have a few drinks. I would definitely return when I go back and I most definitely recommend this place. read more

Walking down the alleyway it is located in was a nice getaway from the otherwise hectic union square atmosphere. Walking in was also a neat experience that felt like we were stepping out of the city into a tiny pub. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.

I would recommend this if you are unsure what to try. - I don't remember what the second drink was called but I do remember it had roku gin in it (not sure if it is the gin and juice). It is definitely on the stronger side. If you do not enjoy gin... you will not like this. Was not expecting it to be so strong. Overall, I like the vibes of this place and like that it is open on the earlier side. The drinks felt a bit of a hit or miss, but we only tried 2 of them.

Fine; but if you don't know no one is going to tell you even if you ask. Food - pretty decent food. I got the shrimp plate. Rice and beans standard - and lots of them. Shrimp not too many, but I was not super hungry. Salad, lots of it but wilted hot and weird. I could have gone without or preferred some escabeche. Tortillas; corn, store bought IMO. Ceviche; not bad not great. Guacamole same. All in all I ate about 1/5 of my plate and had plenty so if you want to fill up and have a bit appetite this is for you:

They also have other styles, but I really do like the pilsners here, something I don't normally say. There's a large interior with games and TVs, and there's also a patio facing the MLK, Jr. fountain. The restroom is the same one used by the Metreon food court. Arrived on a whim at around 6pm on a weekday and found a nice seat at the bar top. They have these little orb lights that can't be moved. He also told me I was right on time for the saber champagne presentation -more on that in a sec. For drinks, I ordered the Hibiscus Spice and the Paradise cocktail. Both were super fruity and delicious! I had a great time sipping on this while chatting it up with a few folks at the bar. To nibble, I can never say no to ahi tuna tartare and this one was great! The most interesting little wafers, ahi tuna with some avocado cream and a little spicy sauce. I absolutely devoured these! So good! Now for the best part, the champagne presentation! A gentleman gave a little info session on on how this process is done and at the end he took a giant to a bottle of champagne to open it. Really Cool! What made this even better was that everyone at the bar got to snag a complimentary glass. What a treat! Super cute little hour of so sitting at the bar at the St. Regis.
