We were searching for a jeweler we could trust to help us design our own engagement ring and reset my mother's diamonds for a wedding band for our union. Mi vieja had big plans for her engagement ring, after watching many videos, viewing social media posts, and learning more about ring design. She even had the idea of flying out to New York for a consultation! However, as we began to shop around our SoCal area, a close friend recommend Diamond Center to us. During our first visit, Sam and Maria made us feel completely welcome, comfortable, and important. We did not feel as though we were two more customers to them; they really wanted to involve us in the process and seemed to genuinely want to help us achieve our goals. My now fiancé and I were recommended to see Sam and Maria because I wanted to custom design my engagement ring, and they do NOT disappoint. We purchased my custom engagement ring, a ring re-design, and a simple white gold band from the prior ring we redesigned. On the first day, Sam spent 2 hours with us helping narrow down the shape of the stone I wanted. I had a very good idea of the shape I wanted but he showed me different stones because he focuses on having the customer fall in love with the stone as opposed to the specs of the stone. Which I LOVE that approach! He also has you look at the stones in natural lighting and fingerprinted (dirtied up), because that's actually what it's going to be 90% of the time. The stones look different in that environment. So on the first visit, we looked at different stones and sizes and refined the exact shape, and L to W ratio. I wanted a specific cut so I ended up custom ordering my stone and color (lab grown per my request). They took the time with me to make minor adjustments while we designed the ring by CAD. They collaborate together as a couple and make sure you get exactly what you want, while making sure your ring will hold up well. We did a little bit of shopping around before we saw Sam and Maria; their prices are fair and honest. You feel like family and know they're going to take care of you. While Sam and Maria were kind and professional in the design process, my experience with the finished engagement ring left me very disappointed. I was very explicit about what I was looking for, sending screenshots, drawings, and detailed explanations to Maria. However, what I received upon proposal shocked me. The mock-up looked beautiful, but the final ring looked completely different. When we did mock-ups, I was told the setting would add volume to the overall appearance of the diamond, which is why I went with the size of diamond that I tried on in the store. I made it clear that I wanted button prongs and even provided visuals to clarify. Instead, I got claw prongs, and the setting is made so low that the diamond is practically hitting my finger. Family members also commented on how different the actual ring looked compared to the mock-up. A local jeweler later confirmed my concerns, explaining that the setting buried the diamonds too deeply and did little justice to their quality. When I reached out to Maria about adjusting it, I was told I would need to pay around $500 to essentially fix the setting so it aligned with what I had originally requested. I was also told that raising the stones "was not how things are supposed to be done," even though I have since seen many similar rings (e.g., smaller, equal, and larger) that were all set higher. Overall, this left me with a very sad and sour experience around something that was supposed to be special, and I am now having to pocket the costs of issues that I believe could have been better handled by the business. read more

It was not easy to find a vendor who could do this..we accidentally stumbled upon their store when we were walking around and it was a pleasant surprise. Matt B. and I got engaged a few weeks ago, and since I planned to wear the ring every day for the rest of my life, I decided I would be there to pick it myself. After a couple of idle visits to Cartier and Tiffany, we made our first trip to the diamond district, with our married friends David and Celina C. in tow. Dave and Celina have been married a couple years, and their engagement ring and wedding bands came from Diamond Center. When they went with us to look at rings, the owners seemed to recognize them, by ring if not by name. We didn't end up getting our ring through Diamond Center (we eventually went through a friend who works in the business, who sold us a great diamond for a great price), but we went in thinking we might. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, and there were a few other customers in and out during our visit. The store was small and welcoming, filled from wall to wall with pretty pretty sparkle sparkle. The Diamond Center seems to sell mostly engagement rings, but they also do other diamond jewelry, like tennis bracelets and earrings. We spent a good couple hours on our first visit looking at diamonds with Julie. Since we were pretty new to the game, she walked us through the meanings of all the specs and showed us a lot of beautiful stones within our budget. She was free with her opinions but never pushy, and she was helpful and sweet and generally wonderful. When we were done looking at the options they had in stock, Julie printed out a list of the diamonds they could obtain in the area, with all their specs and prices. We picked a couple we were interested in looking at, and she ordered them for us and took our emails. We went back on a weekday during our lunch hour, and these stones were even better than the ones we'd seen on our first visit. Julie was lovely over email and in person again. We didn't get to the setting stage, but we looked at a lot of nice rings behind glass. Diamond Center will basically make the ring however you like. We even saw a mold they'd made for another customer. Celina's ring is in a gorgeous band with a kind of wrought antique look, engraved on the inside. Apparently the engraving does wear out, but it's a neat look. We felt a little guilty that we didn't end up going through Diamond Center, but all's fair in love and war and when you're forking over your savings for a rock, or so I always say. Sam, Maria and Julie are a fantastic team. I literally went to every top rated jeweler on yelp(as well as Bolsa and random shops) in orange county and los angeles over a 3 month period trying to find the right jeweler. While Diamond Center doesn't have the best viewing setup for diamonds(kind of dark) or largest showroom....they excel in honesty, value and craftsmanship - a rare combination for a jeweler. When searching for an engagement ring there were 2 concerns to tackle: diamond selection and setting craftsmanship for the custom piece I wanted. Maria and Julie handled the diamonds while Sam worked with me on the setting design and fabrication. Diamond Selection Review: This shop doesn't necessarily own the highest quality stones in the district nor stock a huge selection, but that doesn't mean they can't acquire them. Many jewelers in the district obtain their diamonds from a pooled database and mark up accordingly which is why it's important to make an appointment ahead of time for a viewing for the stones they pull. Don't be surprised if you visit different jewelers on different dates, only to find out that they are showing the exact same stone while quoting different prices. Luckily, Maria and Julie took the time to find a stone that was perfect for my needs. After performing a detailed diamond cost analysis of over 80 stones that met my criteria both online and at brick and mortar stores and making a comparison against various comp reports/indexes(Rapaport, IDEX, real time market averages on $ per carat), I can say that Diamond Center's pricing on the stones they presented to me were VERY FAIR and ETHICAL - their markup was some of the lowest in the district. This is a relief, considering that there are many consumers overpaying for diamonds since there is a lack of knowledge and transparency on how the business works. Maria and Julie were a pleasure to deal with. They were knowledgeable and always courteous and accommodating. Small touches like greeting you by name when answering the phone and always making me feel relaxed throughout the shopping experience show that they truly understand customer service. Custom Setting Review: I'm pretty picky about settings and try to look for indications of poor craftsmanship (ie poor quality melee stones, poor polish, unremoved burs, tweezer marks, poor sets, cheap sets, alloy weight etc) when evaluating custom jewelry. I was looking for quality and value. Let me just say that the custom piece that Sam delivered far exceeded my expectations and I would not hesitate in working with Diamond Center again. The quality I expected and value I received were unequivocally met and surpassed. The only room for improvement would be better response time to questions by phone and email. Overall, Sam communicated very well throughout the process, was very helpful in the design process, delivered 3D pics, showed me wax models, accommodated my revisions, made his promised delivery deadline and most importantly, delivered a well crafted piece. After 10 years of waiting to create the PERFECT engagement ring, now it's my turn to write a review. I had imagined my engagement ring since I was a kid, and although my tastes have changed along the way, my priority was quality-- my ring would have to be one that could be passed on for generations. In honor of our 10 years together, we decided it was finally time to get an engagement ring. Creating a custom made ring was exciting but nerve wrecking because I would have to depend on a complete stranger (albeit, a professional) to understand and interpret the image in my mind. We went to Diamond Center after reading the positive Yelp reviews and were greeted by Maria. She is even sweeter and more patient than she has been described in these reviews. On the counter I laid printouts from my Pinterest board of rings that had individual details of what I liked. Maria and Saida looked over the pictures, and listened to me attentively while the love of my life walked himself over to a chair and got comfortable. After a couple of hours we finally sorted out all the details except for a center stone (all I knew was the type of cut I wanted but was still very much undecided on a stone). She wrote down the details on the order form and kept the pictures. That's when panic began to set in... would she remember all the details we had gone over? Would the notes she jotted down properly describe the double pronged setting of the accent diamonds? Or the exact intricate etched pattern on one of the 7 different pictures I had left with her? I had already left the deposit, so I tried to relax and keep my mind busy with deciding on a stone. The next day was a Sunday and I had already sent Maria 3 emails in regards to the center stone. What was her opinion on white Sapphire? What if we changed the cut from asscher to round? How hard is aquamarine? What was her experience with moissanite? I finally stopped emailing her at the request of my hubby and waited patiently for a reply. Maria invited me back to see some stones in person that upcoming weekend, so in the meantime I kept myself busy obsessing over rocks. By the time Friday rolled around, I had already ordered my stone and had it in hand. We dropped it off that Saturday and they began with production. That's when the panic returned. I emailed and/or called at least once every other day and showed up at Diamond Center with hubby in tow to go over the details so often that they knew me by name. They not only gave me the time of day, they brought out my file every single time and answered all of my redundant questions with a genuine smile. The last time I was there they were very busy, and even so, BOTH Maria AND Sam took their time with me, going over the placement of every last accent diamond. I had expected my ring to be done three days from today. This morning, my husband surprised me with my ring in the absolutely most perfect way. He, too, had been in contact with Sam and had arranged for them to fool me in to thinking that my ring was still not ready. The end result is a ring worth waiting for 10 years. Maria has an incredible eye for design and had made slight changes to the original design, absolutely perfecting it. The quality of the accent diamonds is better than many center stone diamonds I've seen. The milgrain and beading is delicate and perfect. Sam hand-etched the ring himself making it a true work of art. And unbeknownst to me, hubby had requested for a personal message engraved on the inside. Bottom line-- I cannot recommend them enough! They really do make you feel like family when you're there. They are talented professionals with an obvious love for what they do. After visiting multiple chain jewelers (Ben Bridge, Kays, Jared, etc) we decided to go down to the diamond district. If you have never gone before, go! We were hesitant because the main jewlers try to sell you on insurance, upgrades, etc but you can get insurance through your homeowners/renters or private companies. We went into the store, was not pressed at all and received the best education we had gotten thus far. Saida took her time, was patient and although we thought we were already pretty familiar with the 4 C's, she took it to a whole different level. She even told us to go home, think about it and when we are ready to come back..that is how much they wanted to work with us instead of trying to sell us something that same day. Ask for Saida, and you'll find your diamond. I originally stopped in while shopping for an engagement ring. What was most important to me was the "perfect" stone that the Mrs. and I would love. I came in with a few stone - parameters with shape, size, and left the other "Cs" open ended. After a few days of searching, Saida called me back with a dozen stones to take a look at. After a few trips to the store, she found me the perfect stone that was within price range. Once we picked out a stone, Sam (owner) of the store helped us to design the setting. My fiancé bought my engagement ring here and it is absolutely breathtaking. We visited the Diamond Center when we were casually ring shopping before he popped the question and I fell in love with a certain platinum setting they had but I also fell in love with rose gold. The owner and his wife were really accommodating and said that that setting could be made in rose gold. I couldn't really picture it though and was hesitant about it. When my boyfriend surprised me with the ring custom made in rose gold, I was blown away. It was spectacular. Honestly, we shopped around at a lot of places and this was the best. This review is far overdue! We started the process of shopping for an engagement ring and started our search at our local mall (big mistake) We mentioned our bad experience to some friends and they suggested going to downtown LA for better prices. We had no idea where to begin, so we went to yelp to help guide us. We came across a few shops, one being The Diamond Center Inc. I knew that my, now husband, would want to do his research before making a big purchase. As soon as we got buzzed in, we were greeted by Maria and she was the friendliest, most patient, and informative person we could've asked for. She was great. She educated us both on sizing, clarity, pricing, etc. After spending almost 2 hours there browsing and learning, my husband felt like he had information overload and told Maria he'd like to go home and think about it bc we were still shopping around. She was very understanding and said, "I wouldn't want you to make a decision now, it's a big purchase and I want you to take your time and come back when you're ready." she asked us to take pictures if we'd like and take a picture of their business card next to the rings we liked so that we remember what we liked in case we went back. Sam came out and said goodbye when we headed out. The fact that neither one of them was one bit pushy was already reason enough to not want to go anywhere else. We went home and my husband ended up going back to purchase my engagement ring on his own. Maria made note of my size on our previous visit and knew exactly what size to order. We went back a few months later to purchase our bands before our wedding. Sam & Maria were an absolute delight to work with. Again super patient and informative even though they had other clients there at the same time. They showed each client the same attention and patience which I loved. Once we made our selection, Sam offered to clean my engagement ring at no charge. We went back about a month later to pick up our rings, again, treating us with the same kindness as they both did from day one! Vendors such as Sam & Maria are the reason that we love supporting small businesses. They were genuinely nice people to work with and we've referred everyone we know to our "new jewelers".
