Just wanted to thank Matt O'Desky, owner of The Austin Diamond Room, for taking such good care of my wife and I as clients for the past seven years. We started working long-distance with Matt (as we live in Illinois) back in 2010, when we began discussing engagement ring options. So, I approached the process of getting my, now, fiancé her engagement ring with a fairly blank slate. I was also quite intimidated before actually jumping in. After our first phone conversation, I became less intimidated because I quickly could tell that Matt was going to TAKE THE TIME to walk me through the ENTIRE process. The next step was actually getting to sit down with Matt in person. I wanted to have my fiancé a part of the process, and this had potential to become invasive. But through the entire process, Matt's professionalism and knowledge never made for an awkward moment between my fiancé and I. My intimidation quickly shifted into excitement after sitting down with Matt after just one session. Like I said, I was very much a novice when I walked into Matt's office. By the end of the process, I felt like I had a distinct ability to recognize a great diamond. He really put a lot of effort into educating us as we worked towards personalizing and creating exactly what we wanted. Although I would like to say it took me 13 years to find the right jeweler, that's only partially true. My fiance (she said yes) and I had been visiting with several jewelry stores all over the US trying to find that perfect piece for our engagement, and it wasn't until I discovered Matt through a Google search that I realized we were doing it all wrong. My girlfriend has particular tastes and it seemed that whenever we went into a jewelry store they were only interested in selling what they had in the showcase. Not the case with Matt, he took the time to meet with her, learn what her particulars were, and helped me stay within a budget. So for the details: We determined she wanted a yellow diamond that had the appearance of being a large stone, but wasn't at a price that a large stone usually carries. Impossible right? Not for Matt, within 2 weeks he had me back into his office to view this stone that met every criteria we had come up with. He then helped us design a setting, and locate a jeweler to put the piece together. He made it easy, and now we have that unique piece that she was looking for. I recently used Matt while purchasing an engagement ring. The experience was far more then just a "purchase". I reached out to Matt after finding his stellar reviews on Yelp and other channels. I'd already explored a few retail stores, but knew that wasn't the route I wanted to take. Coming from Chicago and hearing about Jewelers Row and the process many of my friends went through of purchasing loose diamonds and designing the setting, I knew thats how I wanted my experience to go. After doing some research I found Matt! The first meeting I had, Matt took 30 minutes to learn about me, my future fiancé and educate me on diamonds and the process. When I came to Matt, I was almost already settled on another engagement ring. I went to several different jewelers and I found the best overall deal with Austin Diamond Room. My girlfriend and I had been searching for engagement rings for several months. We looked at all the typical places in Austin and San Antonio including Tiffany's, Ben Bridge, Bailey Banks and Biddle, Calvin's, Lee Michael's, etc., as well as the online retailers like BlueNile and Dreamstone. Whenever I purchase something of value such as a car, I want to feel comfortable with my purchase. Likewise, I want the same feeling when purchasing jewelry. However, my knowledge of jewelry is minimal. Throughout the years I have attempted to educate myself so that when I do buy jewelry, I feel comfortable with the purchase. But, it never has worked for me. When I discovered The Austin Diamond Room, my comfort level increased. They took the guesswork out of it. Let me just say that I could not have had a better experience buying an engagement setting than I did with Matt. I knew what I wanted to get, and it was not available from any of the big box stores. I emailed Matt giving him a brief explanation of what I was looking for along with what I was able to spend, and he wrote back promptly telling me it sounded like it would be something that was doable. I met with him on December 7th to discuss the design further. I cannot recommend Matt and his team enough! My two best girlfriends and I went to Matt for a "girls night" to try on rings and talk about the different types of diamonds. Matt was an absolute pleasure to work with in what can be a stressful but exciting process. Unlike some of the big box stores and other jewelers I went to I found ADD to be very patient and informative about the stones I was looking at and took the time to look into a few other stones that I had on hold with another jeweler whether I bought from him on not. He was so knowledgable and was not pushy at all in his sales. He even turned me away from a more expensive diamond that he had in stock where most salesman would have tried to push this on me. I went in 4 times for about 2 hours each time going back and forth between 2 stones and where most jewelers would have been so impatient, Matt insisted I take my time and come in as many times as I need to before buying. My experience at Austin Diamond District was absolutely fabulous. I wasn't sure what I wanted to buy other than a diamond engagement ring, but Matt was very professional in helping me decide which diamond was best for my budget and needs. There was no pressure at all -- just a great education in cut, clarity, color and weight. Matt showed me many different stones and didn't make any attempt to sell me the most expensive. It came down to a choice between two princess cut diamonds that looked identical to my eye, but were .71 vs. 1 carat. He explained that the dimensions were about the same but that the extra weight of the 1 carat was underneath and out of sight. Matt also pointed out that price jumps dramatically at 1 carat and urged me to get the .71 carat diamond since it was dazzling in cut, clarity and color and was a great value. His input was very valuable and a few days later we received a CAD image of the ring. After a few more "tweaks" to the design, Matt provided us with various options as we negotiated the cost. We agreed on a price and made a deposit. A few weeks later, we came in to see the result. Like one of the other reviewers, I rarely write these but these guys were so exemplary, I felt a strong need to support them. Upon my first visit, Matt took the time to tell me all about the 4C's (which almost any jewelry store will do). But he surprised me by going above and beyond, teaching me how to use a jewelers loop, showing several stones of various sizes and quality and giving me the low down on the certification process and meaning.
