I contacted them regarding my 2020 Ram 2500 truck. My inquiry was regarding the heater grid bolt failure problem with 2007-2024 Ram trucks. I spoke to John and he was awesome. Got the Banks monster ram air intake ordered for me and it arrived in less than a week. John kept me updated via text message and contacted me and scheduled the install when the part arrived. I brought the truck in at 8:00am and dropped it off. The guys were all super nice. I began receiving text updates with pictures about an hour later keeping apprised as to the progress. I thought that was awesome and really appreciated the step by step photos of my truck being worked on. They finished the job at about 1:30 that afternoon. I've been a customer of Diesel Doctor in El Cajon for over 10 years, but my most recent experience requires a factual review to help others make informed decisions. I brought my truck in for a fuel issue. I was told by Jessie that installing a specific fuel system would completely fix the problem and that there were no other issues with the truck. I approved the repair, which cost over $3,000. The truck was not fixed. After the repair failed, I was then told the truck needed new injectors, a fuel pressure regulator, and additional parts--another estimate of about $3,000. I took the truck to a different, reputable diesel mechanic for a second opinion. They repaired the issue for $1,500 and specifically questioned the quality of the previous work, stating they would not have let the prior mechanic work on any of their vehicles. Based on this experience, I can no longer recommend Diesel Doctor. Customers should use caution and seek a second opinion before approving any high-cost repairs here. read more

I bought a cheap low mileage 2004 F350 with a 6.0 powerstroke which had blown head gaskets, blown egr cooler and failed injectors. The owner, Jesse, hooked me up with new injectors and fully bulletproofed the engine (BPD egr cooler, sinister diesel oil cooler, arp 2000 headstuds, BPD water pump) As well as new machined heads and so much more. The price here at this shop is on the high-end, but you get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once.. On a high performance diesel engine like mine, I would never pay for anything but the absolute best-trust me, you wont regret it. The truck had to be towed to this location. I was given the best customer service, updates and videos. What could have turned out to be a huge cost, was saved and at a beyond reasonable cost. A story of going above and beyond... Jesse and crew have been caring for my 2005 F250 Power Stroke 6.0L for years keeping it reliable for my many RV trips throughout the west. They know my truck. In March, I was returning from a couple of weeks in Sedona and my truck died at the end of an offramp in Yuma, with trailer in tow, and would not restart. Being 2.5 hours away from The Diesel Doctor felt like too far of a tow distance and so I towed it to the local dealer for initial diagnosis. Scan said the oil pressure was too low. The dealer wanted 14 hours of labor to figure out why. Of course, my first call was to Jesse on his cell; he responded immediately and began a month-long process of guiding me through diagnosis and repairs in Yuma. Our conclusion about the dealer: typical dealer gouge estimating so many hours, don't trust them. We find a well-rated diesel specialist in the area and I have truck towed there. Jesse talked to them directly shop to shop to get me off on the right foot. Long story short, they wasted nearly a month and $$$ fumbling through the repair of a failed injection pressure regulator (IPR). To make matters worse, they damaged two injectors in the process of the repair and now want to charge me for this "new" problem after they had put it all back together. What I learned later was the shop had just changed hands and several techs, and their good rating, walked out the door. At this point I did what I should have done all along, we towed the truck to The Diesel Doctor and two days later it is fully repaired with confidence. Jesse was able to show me where the Yuma tech had muscled the oil stand pipe off and cracked two injectors. Through this I re-learned why I think so highly of The Diesel Doctor: 1. They charge for problem diagnosis in steps to minimize costs for me 2. They have a shop full of well-trained techs that know what they are doing. 3. They take the time to explain what they see and will show you the bad parts so you understand what they did. 4. They are honest and only fix what needs fixing but will also make recommendations based on their deep experience with your engine and the common problems they see. 5. They are communicative and responsive. 6. The manage their business not based on how much they make of a given repair but on a relationship and reputation with their customers. Jesse did not get paid for all the time he invested in helping me through the Yuma debacle. He felt it was "the right thing to do" when you have a relationship with your customers. I've been a (very competent) shade tree mechanic for decades - I'm one of those who believes a mechanic - no matter how good he or she is - is always beholden to the clock rather than absolute quality. I wanted to get some work done for my turbo Cold side charge intercooler pipe so it wouldn't burst again. Called the Friday before memorial day weekend and someone took my number and information down and apologized because they were busy and going into a long weekend, but they would call me the next week. I totally understood, and I was not in a rush, so I said that works. Thank you. Next week came and went, nothing. Gave them the next week, came and went, nothing. Called them back and they said that day was so busy that the owner was answering the phone and must have put my information in a book and forgot to tell someone. They said they would get the parts information and call me back that day. That was over a month ago. now These guys must have so much business that they can pick who they want to call and who they don't. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9L Cummins, she has about 226,000 miles on her. Recently, I have been plague with her long starting, or not starting at all, on cold mornings. Had her towed to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out ( they really didn't try) and quoted me $16,000 to start replacing parts until it was fixed. I towed my truck back to my house and made an appointment with Diesel Doctor to have them look at it, and turns out I needed all 6 injectors and related parts including the rail pump, that I purchased myself, had to be replaced. All said and done I was a little over $6,200, that's still a lot of money, but way lower than the dealer and they pin pointed the problem. Now, my truck cranks on the first turn, and runs like new. This is the only place I will ever take my truck. I took it in due to the check engine light being on. I had checked the code prior to taking it in, and the code was for exhaust sensors being out. Jesse and his boys started to dig in and got back to me within a day. They had found out that my computer was bad and told me everything that they found wrong with it. They were straight forward with me and no BS, which I appreciate. They got a new computer, installed it and off I went. Within a day my check engine light came back on and they had me bring it right back, and the code was the same. They spent a day troubleshooting electrical circuits, the exhaust etc and found nothing. They called me and said they are sure it is the computer and want to send it back the company as they believed it was faulty, I said of course. Now mind you, Jesse had hunted down the exhaust parts that might be needed but he didn't want to charge me for the parts and labor until the computer came back to see if that was it. The new CPU came back in a couple days and sure enough that was the issue, a faulty programming issue from the company. I didn't get charged anything as it was a warranty repair. I CANNOT STATE THIS ENOUGH... the INTEGRITY that they have is beyond what words can describe. Jesse could've told me it was the exhaust, charged me for the parts and labor and I would've still had the issue. But they had a feeling it was the CPU and they were 100% Correct!
