For a time this place was getting a bad rap on Yelp, but I'm glad that it's making a come back because in my opinion it's one of the best bars in Gainesville. There are few places I would actually consider for a great drink in Gainesville and the dime bar is one of those places. A nice intimate location with a speakeasy vibe, it's not only affordable but has good quality drinks. Back in my student days I'd love to come to the happy hour (which has an wide selection of different drinks), while the bar still had some decent seating before the night service. The Bee's Knees is my go-to refreshing cocktail and always gives me a nice buzz with a little sweetness. So far I've never had a bad bartender (although they aren't overly friendly), but in my opinion they are just focused on their work. While this might be a turn-off for others I always found myself just talking to other people given it's a speakeasy and that's what you're supposed to do :). read more

Great drink choices... if you can ever get in. And even when/if you can get in, prepare to wait over 15 minutes to be acknowledged/ignored, and another 15 minutes for your drink to be made. Disappointing with given how nice the atmosphere is. Also incredibly frustrating since it's clearly a partner bar of one of the neighboring ones next door because people keep walking in and out the back. Made a stop at the Dime for a cocktail after dinner. Had the Cuban rum drink (can't remember the exact name) which was excellent. This is probably the best place for a hand crafted cocktail in town that I've seen recently. The Dime is super-small with probably only about 15-20 seats which means it isn't loud and is a good spot for conversation. Highly recommend this spot for a cocktail or two pre or post dinner. read more

Nice place to start our night. It's a Gainesville 5 and a country 4 with regards to craft cocktails. Had a bees knees to compare to other places and a Bandito to see the local flavor. Bartenders don't measure ingredients and shook with regular freezer ice in the drinks. Garnishes were in drinks but nothing especially curated. As for the drinks themselves the bees knees was good but maybe a little more bitter than normal. The bandito was on point...smoky mezcal and a really spicy finish made this the highlight of our stop. Atmosphere is nice but could get crowded really fast. We happened to get a table right when we walked in which was lucky. Staff was nice and service was quick. We would go back...but this is not a true speakeasy with knock your socks off cocktails. Prices were about what you would expect...classics around 10 and the bandito was 15. The drinks are exceptional. It is fascinating to watch the bartenders put care and time into your beverage. I had one of the greatest cocktails I have ever have at this bar. It will take you a long time to get your beverage, but watch the bartender make it and you will enjoy it all the more. Also known as "No Name Bar", this place has amazing cocktails - some of the best I've had in Gainesville. It is a small, quirky spot with retro decor and warm atmosphere. The drinks are all very unique and interesting, many of them made with different herbs and spices, which gives a cool kick while sipping. While it is not the cheapest ($8-$12 for a cocktail), the happy hour from 7-10 pm has a lot of great options for about $5-$6. The O Rei cocktail was one that stood out. While the staff definitely knows how to make a great drink, I was hoping that I would be given a little more advice when I asked for a suggestion. Maybe the bartender was just too busy, because it was crowded. Overall, an inviting place with memorable drinks, I'll definitely be coming here more often. read more

Worst experience ever, aggressively rude bartender, I have never felt so disrespected while spending my money. From other reviews I have read, it seems as shit service at this bar is the norm. The owners should re-evaluate what customer service is and train their staff accordingly. I would never step foot in this bar again nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone. As for the butch bartender that had on a mamey colored shirt yesterday, she and her friend were both drunk and disrespectful to the patrons at the bar, you do not deserve the right to serve guest, nevertheless, get paid to do so. This is a very tiny, trendy and low-key bar smack in the middle of downtown Gainesville. It's directly adjacent to one if the most popular and largest bars in Gainesville so it sees a fair amount of foot traffic and can get pretty busy during peak hours on weekend evenings. I've read a lot of other reviews about this place turning people away due to reaching capacity and I can see how that would be the case. It seems that a lot of people may take someone telling them no (possibly for the first time in their life) personally and somehow chalk it up to them not being "hipster" enough but I don't think that's what's going on here. I certainly wouldn't categorize myself as hipster nor am I part of the downtown crowd, and I've never encountered issues. Ive been allowed in and turned away from this bar before and the message has always been "come back in fifteen when there's less people here". I think it really is a capacity issue. They also usually only have one person working the bar and their cocktails are a little more complicated than your average gin and tonic so it can take a while to get a drink. The cocktails are really delicious though so I don't mind the wait. They are on the pricey side so be forewarned you'll definitely be spending a pretty penny should you order more than just a few drinks. It's definitely worth it if you're feeling in fancier mood. I like that it's a more intimate space frequented by a more mature crowd. It's a nice spot to take a first date after dinner for some chit chat and great spot for people watching, hipster or not a hipster. read more

I was leaving barcade and stopped in front of Dime Bar noticed a young lady and her friend standing in their patio area then a women from inside Dime bar stormed outside grabbed the beer from her hand and went inside the bar and poured it out. Didn't say a word to her. Obviously we were all upset, and I very upset cause I had visited the bar several times and thought it was a great place, I was severely disappointed. When the two bartenders came out we told them how disrespectful it was what they did that young lady and they cussed us out and said they didn't vaule our opinion. Didn't care if we came back, we were drunk idiots. I just couldn't believe they spoke to us in such a disrespectful way. I will never go back to this bar. I believe customer service is everything and you should display it at all times. We were not drunk, had a few drinks but what they did was inappropriate 100%!! Support a business that value their customers and treat them with respect and don't believe their hipster ego is above everyone else. I could do without the snooty attitude. They're not brain surgeons because they squeeze a lemon or cut an orange peel. I could make most of those drinks myself, and really the pretentiousness is a bit much. By the way, "their" cocktail The Marie Prevost is a knock-off of a drink called The Golden Age (aka 'Now You Know') developed by the renowned bartender Pip Hanson, formerly of The Marvel Bar in Minneapolis. It's considered bad form to copy house drinks in that way. A friendly demeanor doesn't seem to be a problem for The Top bartenders, and I'm not sure why it's any different over here. What I'm saying doesn't apply to all of the bartenders, but it does seem to be a systemic problem here. I've been a small (5 or 6?) number of times, and I stopped going most recently after a female bartender with dark hair didn't even acknowledge me when I came in. It seems to attract many people who are uptight and into their tattoos and acting pretentious themselves, so it's not usually a good place to hang out in terms of the crowd. First off I just wanted to say that I came here months ago for a friend's birthday and loved the cocktails! My boyfriend and I stopped by yesterday while we were walking downtown because I was craving the mezcal and tequila cocktail that I had before. As soon as we walked through the door, the female bartender with curly hair and big hoop earrings came running from behind the counter and asked to see our IDs. I thought it was a little weird because they never did that before and no one else's ID was being checked when they walked through the door. When my boyfriend went to order the cocktails, he waited over 20 minutes. I know it's a small bar and there was only 2 bartenders working, creating craft cocktails which take a little longer, but people that came in after us were being served before us. The two bartenders then were talking loud enough for us to hear saying "why are these toddlers here? What is this a Denny's? I wish we had a glass wall so they can't hear us right now" basically implying that we were going to tip bad. Do toddlers drink mezcal? Do underaged drinkers even know what mezcal is??? Besides the point, I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated at how rude the bartenders are. On top of it all the female bartender went out front on the patio for a smoke break. I understand smoke breaks might be needed but right out front really??? Disgusted in this place no wonder it had such bad reviews below. read more
