I have been a patron of this lovely shop and salon for years. Today was my first time in the new location and I was floored. I was immediately greeted by the owner, Leigh Ann, who brings a wonderfully cheery energy to every interaction. Leigh Ann gave me a quick tour before handing me off to my new hairstylist, Tracy. Truth be told, I decided this morning on a whim that my hair was in dire need of a cut and refresh, and I messaged Disco Dolls on Facebook. I received a speedy response from Leigh Ann letting me know they could accommodate me. I was thrilled. So, I walked in already excited to spend some time in the salon chair. But I was dazzled further by all of the cool items beautifully merchandised in this shop. Tracy is an expert with hair, and she breathed life back into my flat, shapeless locks. She asked me questions, cut my hair for the initial look, then happily made edits as I asked for them. It turned out GREAT! I love my new hair cut! She's earned my repeated business, for sure! After my hair cut with Tracy, I walked around the shop and spent more time really taking in all the delights. I'm into making my own beauty, hair care, and pampering products and I was delighted to find they have wonderful ingredients for my potions there. Leigh Ann was right there to answer all of my questions, giving me a truly a wonderful experience. I learned they have a "Party on the Block" the last Thursday of every month from 7-10pm where the neighboring shops are open late, featuring a DJ, art shows, delicious treats, and a unique shopping experience. I can't wait to go back and further indulge. Disco Dolls is doing is right! Definitely worth a visit! I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Upon my first meeting with Leigh Anne, I explained that I was looking to prototype a new item for my line. I made very clear the product I was looking for, how it should fit on the shoe, and what material I would like to have them made in. She seemed to understand exactly what I was looking for and I was really excited to move forward. We scheduled our second meeting a month later. She reached out to me a day or two before our scheduled appointment and told me she needed to reschedule the appointment, so we met about two weeks later. The item I was presented was not in the fabrics I requested, and she explained to me that she only uses recycled/sustainable fabrics, and she couldn't find black scuba, so she used a bamboo fabric instead. I wasn't overly concerned, but I do wish she would have communicated the inability to source the fabric type we had spoken about. What I was concerned with is that the prototype was essentially a bamboo washcloth with velcro poorly sewn onto the ends. I'm well aware that prototypes are rough drafts, but this was really really rough. I figured the second draft would be better so I brushed it off. Our third meeting was, once again, rescheduled via text the day before. I own a business as well and I understand that things come up, but I was starting to wonder if I was starting to see some red flags. I arrived at our third meeting and was given the reworked prototype- which was the same prototype with the Velcro moved about 1/2" closer to the end, and a curved line cut at the bottom of the fabric. On all 3 meetings I communicated that there needed to be enough length for a small lip over the top of the shoe, which there wasn't, and the bottom needed to be contoured to the curve of the shoe, which it also wasn't. I again reiterated to her what I was looking for, paid my bill, and went about my business, wondering if I should even move forward with a fourth meeting as I felt I had already wasted quite a bit of time. After that last meeting, I went to a few seamstresses around town and showed the prototype to them, as well as some friends of mine that have successfully sewn and altered items for me. I wanted to get some opinions, particularly from professionals, as I have absolutely no sewing skills and wanted to find out if this was typical and to be expected, or if I was right in my displeasure. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single person I spoke to said they would be embarrassed to deliver that item to a customer. Needless to say, I ended up cancelling our 4th meeting as I had already spent $150 for an item that was not remotely what I was looking for, what I was communicating didn't seem to be getting through, and I figured I'd rather cut my losses now than spend another $100+ on something that I knew wouldn't be what I wanted anyway, and who knows how many more meetings it would have taken to get there. I know a few people who have worked with Disco Dolls and have had good experience, so was very excited to pursue this project and support a fellow local business owner in the process, but to say I feel like I got taken advantage of is an understatement. read more

I'm bummed to write this review. I just moved to the Seminole Heights area and was pumped to check this place out. Unfortunately my experience was truly terrible. I wanted red hair (as seen in the photo) and I received blonde balayage. After in the chair for a whopping 6 hours, I was charged $385 tip NOT included. The stylist had told me the highest it would cost was $360 total, WITH tip. This meant going over budget $70. Not only did I get a cut and color that I did not ask for and did not like, I was also overcharged for it. The haircut, in my opinion was a hack job. I also asked for curtain bangs and received something between a layer and a fringe. Overall pretty upset with the experience and cost. read more

Eclectic salon and boutique full of personality! The owners are sisters. One is a hair stylist and the other is a fashion designer. The fashion designer makes her clothing in house and has her designs for sale in the boutique. There are 3 hair stylist stations and all were occupied by customers/stylists during my visit. Kristine, the hair stylist owner, was recommended to me thru a friend. Boy does she know hair and color. It was obvious within the first minute of my hair color consultation she knew her trade exceptionally well. Kristine listened to what I wanted, offered suggestions, and gave me exactly what I envisioned. The products she uses are natural and smell fantastic. My hair looks and feels amazing. I was excited to try this place, but when I visited, it was very underwhelimg. The vibe from the owners was hostile and contradictory to the image they project. I was told how inclusive and non-judgemental this space is, yet as I was shopping around, I overheard the owners talking trash about a previous hair client while the owner who does hair had a different client sitting in her chair! I was appualed. It was so uncomfortable as a new customer to listen to the owners talk trash about thier clients. They seem so desperate to be liked and were offended that someone didn't like them saying how terrible that other customer was. And maybe they were terrible, I don't know, but you know if they're talking trash about some customers in public that they're also going to talk about you. Sooo much negativity and bitterness in the ambiance here! Aside from the salon, the shop felt a bit confusing, like they don't know what they want to be. I can appreciate a catch-all store, but this was just trying too hard. I liked the vintage clothes section, but was not impressed with the clothing made in house, the designs were frumpy. On a positive note, the art was fun; but I think that's all they have going for them. The takeaway - its an overpriced thrift store that also does hair while the owners talk about you. read more

Delightful vibes. So much to look at (and buy!) It's cute that they'll trim bangs for free (providing you got them there in the first place). Definitely going back every 8 weeks to maintain the wonderful style that Bri started for me. Somehow she performed magic and made my cowlick disappear. This place is EPIC. The ambiance is super cool. It's like a boutique/haircut overall vintage experience. Everyone was very nice & quite accommodating, I genuinely enjoyed my time there, and Siobhan was super cool & considerate. The salon is Green Certified which is fabulous and I would recommend this place for sure... but beware, if you go in for a cut you may leave with some awesome handmade or vintage clothing and jewelry (or in my case, a white sage smudge stick). Do not get your hair done here. I went in for the simplest trim and some long layers and left with 4 inches off and a horribly uneven shag. I specifically asked to keep as much length and thickness as possible, as well as stated "I do NOT want any kind of shag or a lot of layering". Even if I wanted a shag the work is horrible, uneven, and unfixable. I really didnt think it was possible for a hairdresser to misinterpret a trim and long layers. I've been growing my hair out for 2 years and she destroyed it in 20 minutes. I now have a short bob as a result because there was no way to fix the literal mullet she gave me. read more

I was on the hunt for someone to alter my vintage wedding dress that had been passed down to me. Afraid to take it to just anyone, I was told to take it to Leigh Anne at Disco Dolls. She took such great care of my dress while it was in her care and helped me create exactly what I wanted out of it. My great aunt was more than thrilled with her old dress when she got to see it on my big day. Leigh Anne is extremely talented and was able to work with me and my old dress. If you need ANY clothing, altered (or even just created!) vintage or not- let her take a stab at it. You will be more than glad that you did. read more

I have been going to the same eye brow lady for 9years and then one day I went to the salon and my lady vanished, in fact it was a whole new staff! I wasn't so keen on all the changes, so I started looking for a new place to go. I found Disco Dolls and was excited because it's close to my house! I just got my eye brows waxed and I love it! I'm so happy with my whole experience at The Disco Dolls! My stylist Siobhan spent a good amount of time really listening to what I was looking for in my haircut and style, what my hair does and doesn't do, and how much time I wanted to spend on it before work (uh ... 5 min lol) and then gave me a thoughtful and stylish cut and dry that's going to be perfectly low maintenance for me. All of the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is casual and hipster cool but not over the top. I almost can't wait for my hair to grow out so I can go back! Also, don't know why prices are rated 3 dollar signs. Prices are very reasonable and what I'd expect to pay for a great, professional cut and style.
