The bar at the Distillery Bar at the Edgefield

What what what?!? No separate way to review one of the best places to park yourself in the entire McMenamins franchise . . . until now? Let me take care of that for the rest of you. Done. Oh, you want more? Do you really need more details about the teeny-tiny former horse stable-now-bar located next to the golf course at Edgefield? That it's one of the most intimate places on the property to drink housemade whiskey or a pint or both? That if you're seated next to the impressive woodstove inside the bar or the welcoming fire pit outside with one or two people who you can talk to for days on end, it's pretty much the greatest way to pass the time ever? Of course, it's best to hit the Distillery Bar on a cloudy weekend afternoon during the fall or early spring. If you go on a weekend night, it's a zoo and completely loses that private, cozy aspect. And if you visit any time during the summer, it's basically Disneyland without the rides or people in cartoon costumes. So yeah, you can hate on the McM service or food quality or general over-saturation all you wish, and sometimes, the criticism is earned. But if you let that get in the way of a trip to the Distillery, you lose. I'll be in my spot next to the fire, drinking and winning.

This spot provided the "service with a snarl" you can sometimes get at a McMenemins. It was a perfect Saturday in October - bright, sunny and warm. The Distillery Bar has the best outside seating, not a full selection of beers but all the distilled options of course. The setting is next to a putting green with a fantastic fire pit for the cooler nights. Nt sure about the food situation up here... I gave it three stars because the bartender seemed put out to actually have to tend bar.

Wow slow staff. Line out the door all Saturday. Overpriced food and beer plus long lines to get it don't make for happy patrons.

I have NO idea why this place only has a 4.0 on Yelp. I am a huge foodie and can say very…read moreconfidently that this place is beyond amazing! We ordered the pretzel with cheese sauce, cheddar burger, reuben and fish 'n chips. EVERYTHING was 5 stars or better! Fresh tasting, clearly mostly made in-house. Seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection. I had no idea this place existed, but I will 100% be back! Would be a great stop before a concert at Edgefield. Highly, highly recommend!

The server we got was absolutely amazing and completely made our meal. He was on top of everything at all times, joked with us the whole time, and was even able to make our thirteen year old laugh multiple times (quite a feat). The beers were good just wished for a few more options, the food was the star outside of the service. Very surprising quality for a tiny little pub. The Brussels were perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. The nachos were delicious and gave me my first ever try of corned beef on nachos- AMAZING. The kiddo liked his burger but complained it was a tad overcooked. My grilled buffalo chicken sandwich was excellent on flavor and very moist. Would 100/10 recommend just for the server alone. More beer options and a yummier kiddo meal would make this a 5 star place but it's as close as you could get!
