The security at the door is an arrogant, rude individual, and if you are going to use a card to pay, you will be taxed 13.7%($12 cash price turned into $13.64 because I used a card). That's what happened to me tonight, at least. The music was great today, and so was the vibe. They do have good food as well. The bartenders were friendly and attentive, and I appreciate that as a customer. That fee for not using cash is really steep and ghetto in my opinion, though. Updated review: My first review was 6 years ago, the food was delicious back then. That unfortunately has changed. Not only the portions have been affected, they used to give about a cup and a half of queso, and that changed to one of those little containers where you get salsa on the side. Today, I ordered the queso again and I didn't even get it this time! Also the chips I got, were old and burned. Going from bad to worse, very sad because I really used to like this place. I've been in El Paso for almost 3 years now. When I first came to EP, I tried rolled tacos. I did not understand their appeal. What I had then was soggy, in a watery sauce. Fast forward to now; a local friend took me here and ordered them for me. Yum!! I had the green. Nice kick with some extra spicy salsa on the side in case you wanted more heat. I originally stopped by the District a couple years back, since then I've had the rolled tacos burned into my brain as they were waaaaaaaaay better than Chico's Tacos. Well I recently paid them a visit again and they did not disappoint, we were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and ordered some non alcoholic drinks. Service was fast and she checked on us often. Although this is more of a bar (with a kitchen), it's a great spot to drop in for a quick bite to eat even if you're not having a drink. Rolled tacos and fries did the job for us, the tacos were not soggy and the sauces were banging! Ambience wise, it is a bar so it is a little darker inside with music playing at a moderate level but not so loud you can't hear yourself talk. This was in the late afternoon so I imagine at night it's a bit more lively. They also have lots of big screen TVs for your sports enjoyment. FYI When I first visited this spot, some relatives told me to avoid the area and all bars including this one, well I'm happy to say they were very wrong. My favorite dish is a green chile cheeseburger. I'm New Mexican and I'm an expert. I literally live where green chile is grown and I've been eating it all my life. So I search for who brags to have the best green chile cheeseburger and I saw people talking about this place. I scoffed because it's Texas. What do they know about green chile. I was wrong. Not only was this an excellent green chile cheeseburger, but it was the best one I've ever had. Everything was super fresh from the crisp lettuce and cold tomatoes and onion, soft roll, well season beef cooked to perfection, melty cheese and the green chile was spicy w a wonderful roasted flavor. I'd also like to add how fantastic the fries were. They were crinkle cut seasoned fries, crispy on the outside and steamy, pillowy soft on the inside. Portions were generous, too. Yea, it's a bar, but the ambiance is friendly. There were a few kids eating with their parents and even though there was music playing from a jukebox, it was quiet enough to speak to my friendly waitress in a normal voice. It seemed clean, the girls who were working there were cute and you know how some of the are super flirty working that tip in most places? To be honest, I tried to go to the other location on Mesa (twice). The first time, despite the hours saying that it was open, I drove there only to have it closed. The second time it was suggested, I tried to call and there was no answer despite trying multiple times. Rather than wasting my time and going to Mesa, we went to this location instead. Uber driver had a difficult time following the map directions, because of how the intersection is built. We wound up getting dropped off in the business behind The District and walking around. There is a rather large bar and lots of seating options. From a bar height stools to several tables with chairs. Our waitress/bartender came over and got our drink order and told us about the specials. Honestly, the music was so loud (and she talked so softly) that I had little idea what she had actually said. Drinks arrived (no draft, but a decent selection of bottles available) and we ordered the sampler appetizer. It was Tuesday, and the tacos were $1.50 each. Several folks I was with ordered the taco trio (chicken, buffalo chicken, and beef), and I got the half & half rolled tacos (two chicken, two beef, red/green sauce and cheddar/monterey jack cheese). Tacos arrived before the appetizer, and they looked good but were fairly small. The feedback was that they weren't bad, but not great. I would give the same feedback for my rolled tacos. Not great, but decent. I have tried multiple rolled tacos in my time in El Paso and I dont understand why so many folks think they are outstanding. When the appetizer showed up, the favorite was the cheese sticks. Jalapeno poppers were good, the onion rings were definitely a frozen product. We couldnt figure out what one of the items on the tray was, and one intrepid soul took a bite out of it. Unfortunately for him the mystery item was huge slice of dill pickle that was battered and fried (he hates pickles). I have never seen a whole slice of pickle fried, usually it is pickle slices/chips. Overall, the food was just okay. The lack of draft beer was also a drawback. The only really positive was that there is a huge projection screen, so could be fun for football watching. I likely wont be back. Better options and food exist elsewhere in town. read more

This was my 1st time here and wasn't sure how to order the tacos. Marina the bartender was very rude and every time I asked her questions about food she would roll her eyes and give short answers. We ordered 3 beef in red and 3 in half and half. 4 tiny rolled tacos in lots of sauce. With them being so tiny, I think they need to add at least 2 more. What a horrible experience I had eating here. First, this place was not what I expected. It's a little dive bar, dark and moody with sad 90s songs playing in the background. Maybe after a few drinks the food wouldve gone down better. We went around 10am. A few folks at the bar having a morning brew. We went to try the Chicos style tacos. We ordered the red sauce ones and split a large order of fries. The crinkle cut fries were enough to share. The sauce from the tacos definitely is more flavorful than Chico's. It had a ton of oregano. The tacos themselves didn't taste that good. The cheese was not great either. They didn't taste bad but didn't taste good either. Again... maybe if you arent sober you won't mind. I literally wasnt out of there 10 minutes when I had to pull over to use the restroom. They cleared me out so bad. Chicos at least let's me get home! I had major bubble guts! I stopped at 3 different stores to use the restroom during the course of 30 minutes. I know it was this because I hadn't eaten anything since dinner the night before. Just moved to TX and thought I'd try this place. Nothing to rave about. All the food has too many flavors. Just because you add 20 spices to your rolls tacos doesn't make them good. Less is more. They were cold when they arrived and the drinks all had a fruity flavor and they weren't meant too. Service took way too long for a lunch break after telling her we had to be out in an hour. My brother in law took me to this bar/restaurant and saw that they had the rolled tacos in the style of Chico's Tacos. When I visit El Paso I try to visit at least once, but that has changed now. Another El Paso nice dive! Actually, it's not a dive. The bathrooms were very clean and nicely done, always a true clue for me. Tons of tables, tons of TV's for viewing. We sat at the bar and had wings and veggie chips. The bizarre thing is they have no beer on tap, only cans. Having said that, they had a large selection! The service was great, and they had many more menu items that have not yet been put on the actual menu. Apparently, new owners took over a year ago. Everything I have had here is excellent! The Rolled Tacos have great flavor (try them with both red and green sauce). They can easily rival another El Paso staple when it comes to flavor. The BLT is the best BLT in El Paso hands down. Stacked to the top with crispy bacon served with a side of crispy hot French fries. The Carne Asada Tacos have a great flavor to them and are stacked with meat. The Jalapeño Bombers are made with thick bacon and a real jalapeño ... not these bagged deep fried bombers we can run into at a bar.
