Caramel and cinnamon rolls are great! However, their service is terribly lacking! There is one person taking orders, making coffee, and getting pastries and one person making hot items. Wait times are long and it's painfully awkward to wait in line while the person who is supposed to take orders is making coffee right in front of you. The accuracy of hot food is marginal. We did a phone order and they messed it up. No cheese on one crepe and no egg on another. Also, they gave us two cinnamon rolls instead of two caramel rolls which I don't bother correcting. They could do a lot better having more staff and focusing and speed and accuracy of service. I'd recommend Great Harvest bakery or Grateful Bread instead if you're looking for a local place. read more

Since it was noon, we decided to order crepes with our cafe au laits. We were brought upstairs, where there is seating, just wonderful, breakfast crepes with cheese and eggs. We were delighted and vowed we return. Fast forward a month. We were served upstairs our breakfast crepes. They were not burned, but cooked too long and were tough and almost uneatable. We summed this up to cook failure. Fast forward another month, our breakfast crepes had thick, grey, "dough" which should have been tossed and new batter made. Probably won't be back. And need to rate this third experience as a feeble one star. read more

Usually love this place. Owner is a really great person. I hadn't eaten here in years since we no longer live in Helena. Today- I had a different experience. Soup was "meh"-watery potato soup and carrots were not cooked much. But the most annoying thing was waiting over 20 min for a crepe. I was "assurred" it would be out soon- 10 min in and that "Crepes take a little longer." Umm-crepes don't take 20 min. Ive made them before. The place was not at all busy. Would really only like to give this place 2.5 stars - but the full 3 stars does it justice. Smaller bakery & cafe that has seating upstairs and a good sized menu-selection, but the overall vibe behind the counter seemed somewhat hectic but to the staff's credit they were working hard. Crepes seemed to be just a flat pancake folded over with jam spread on it, and the sandwich I ordered was up to par, but the smoothie was pretty weak - definitely not a fresh fruit smoothie, more like crushed ice w sugar syrup. The only option for sandwiches is to put them on a big bread roll and therefore the sandwiches end up being 95% bread (they dont offer sliced bread because they are too cheap to slice up a bread loaf in case there is some left over at the end of the day). They also advertise soup but hardly make any soup each day. They are typically out of soup by about 11:30 or 11:45 because they've hardly made any. It's not because they have gotten crazy busy. They just dont make very much of it. Its really annoying. Seriously, this is a really bad spot for lunch. I used to like this place alright but it has gone DOWN hill the past few years. Steer clear. This is the best bakery in Helena. The food is excellent and fairly priced. The breakfast crepes are scrumptious. The staff miraculously manages a high paced line with skill and good humor. The ambience is relaxing. If you're filling up for a day on the trail or just a day riding the desk, this is your place. And there's plenty of great baked goods to take with you. What happened to the peasant bread sandwiches? Today I was picking something up across town and decided to drop in for lunch. First issue, asked for Jalepeno chedder for sandwich and it didn't happen, this is why I always ate there on Friday. The previous owner before founder already reduced cheese and I was disappointed, but at least texture of roll was good. Today, they didn't get correct roll :( Then I got home and it was like a hamburger bun texture, not peasant roll. My daughter worked at the Dive during high school and I texted her and told her and her heart sank. So sad, I won't return because the new owner didn't stay to original recipes. read more

I watched as two employees went from washing dishes to making food. And another make food while talking on his Cell Phone. This is a great way to spread germs and this really grossed me out. Really convenient location for state employees and the place gets crowded because of it, but its worth it. I don't drink coffee but I can say they have a nice tea selection and really awesome crepes! Let me just first say that the food is pretty good. Only ever stopped by for a quick sandwich, and it has always been decent. However, 3 of the last 4 times I have stopped by they have forgotten add ons to the sandwich that I have paid for. Today was the last straw because apparently it is my fault that they don't know how to work their register. I am fortunate that my work gives me an allowance of $12 for lunch, so when I ordered two sandwiches, I asked to charge $12 to the account and then pay the difference. Who I assume is the manager, a women with a Cancer zodiac sign tattoo on her upper arm, rudely said that there is now way to ring that up. Not trying to be a bother on a busy day, I paid for one sandwich and charged the other. Not a minute later I overhear another employee say that there is a way to do what I had requested. Does she attempt to correct her mistake? No, she shrugs and goes back to making food. When our food comes up, she just so happens to be walking my way so I ask her again if there is a way to do the split. She gestures to me to meet her at the register, all the while acting as if I have just deeply offended her for pointing out her mistake. Tapping furiously on the iPad, she rings up the sandwiches the way I had asked and snatches my card from my hand. When I ask if the previous charge has been refunded, again as if I had offended her, she scoffs that it is already done and walks off. The customer service is so poor that I won't go back even though my lunch would be paid for. read more

If you asked me to have crepes for breakfast I would have said "no, crepes are only for dessert" but all that changed today when I walked into this place and tried their Tuesday special, turkey, cream cheese, swiss cheese, cranberries and green onions crepe. What a wonderful bite. I love finding places like this while on vacation. I would come again and try some of their other dishes. Wonderful spot for breakfast. Don't be turned off by its location in a small strip mall. The food and coffee are really good. You can sit outside and look at the mountains. Food is ok. Crepes are never fully done with a crispy exterior; almost soggy. Egg bowls are watery. Nothing superb that can't be made my most in their own kitchen. Staff is very loud, and a very chaotic atmosphere. One of my biggest complaints is how loud they play their music. I have lived in Helena my whole life and am a big fan of local businesses. When I heard that the Dive had been under new ownership, I was happy to know that the this local business would stay open. That was until I heard what my dad had experienced Christmas Eve. He went into the Dive, looking for sweet rolls to have on Christmas morning. It was around 7:40 or 7:45, both of the open signs were lit in the window, which is why he went in. Admittedly, he was the only patron there at the time, but went to the counter. A youngish woman looked at him and said, "Are you looking for something?" He replied that he would like a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. She told him that the rolls were not finished cooking yet. My dad said that he would wait. He then milled around for a little bit. He saw the fresh sweet rolls that the other workers were putting in the bakery case, so dad went to the counter to purchase those. The girl again looked at him, said" you know, we are not technically open." To which my dad looked at the TWO open signs lit in the windows and the unlocked door that he had previously come through, and replied "I am sorry to put you out." After a little longer the girl offered to use a day old roll to make the breakfast sandwich. dad agreed, bought the sweet rolls and left. The food is still of okay quality, the taste may have been soured a bit by the careless attitude and stink eyes that were thrown in a 63 year old man's direction, who was more than willing to patiently wait for the food that he was buying. This is one small business that my very large family is not going to frequent any time soon, as the quality of the food is no better than anywhere else, but quality of service is far lacking. read more
