The Dive Shop My son and I got our Advanced diver certification as well as Nitrox instruction from The Dive Shop. We were preparing for our dive to Chuuk Lagoon. Mac is an amazing dive instructor and owner of the shop and the people at the shop were great. Mac even did an Advance buoyancy class at the last moment for us. All these classes helped us dive at Chuuk Lagoon and have an amazing experience. I am so impressed at the dedication that Mac has to make your dive experience awesome. My husband took our dive gear into Dive Utah for a tune-up. We go diving in Bonaire and do coral cleaning/planting. We dive twice a day, luckily not deep. After a few dives i noticed a slow leak. I took it to the dive repair shop and guess what?! The o rings were old. They had never been replaced. This is SCUBA. Dive Utah is putting lives at stake by taking money and then doing nothing! Arrived at the dive shop and the parking lot was full... thought this was a good sign. Walked in and I observed what I assumed was 2 customers and 1 employee based on the conversation I overheard about the purchase of an exposure suit that needed to be ordered. I walked around a bit to check out the store as I didn't want to interrupt the other customer. After a couple minutes, the customer left and the employee immediately disappeared into a back room without a single word. I wandered around for a few more minutes with the expectation that someone would come back out... nadda! I was never greeted, or given any kind of acknowledgment that someone would be back to assist. I was going to the Maldives and planned to do a dive or 2 and I just figured why not go in to a dive shop and ask a few questions. Mac was so helpful and I will probably go through him to book my next trip after talking for awhile. Just walk in say hi and become scuba family! Amazing! read more

Been in a here a few times. I shop with multiple dive shops in the valley. When I need more tanks, I've rented gear from here. I was honestly shocked to see a one star reviews of this place. I've known a few people that have done their cert here and had a good experience. The sales floor is clean and they have a pretty decent selection and pricing. Everyone I've met on the staff here is knowledge and seems friendly. I've seen them interact with other customers, explain very rudimentary subjects and the staff just seems like they are always happy to help. read more

Certified to Dive through The Dive Shop. It was great experience, the staff was super knoweldgable and patience and my wife and I had a great time learning to dive and earning our open water certification. It has allowed us to dive throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Southeast Asia. And don't forget about the price for the certification. It's the best deal out there and it also (at the time) allowed us to make our initial purchases of our masks and fins at a discounted packaged price. Down to earth and best value around. They WILL go out of there way to help. With a dive trip quickly approaching, they added a class so I could certify. Jessica was an awesome teacher. Cameron did a phenomenal job to fully explain and educate. I've compared my training to others and I learned more information and skills then anyone else. Plus it was the cheapest class in northern Utah and included gear rental. Derrek goes out of his way to keep diving alive in Utah. Setting up monthly meetups and dives. I'm extremely excited for the Annual Bear Lake Treasure Hunt this weekend. The Dive Shop truly creates a personalized experience. It's about the dive and the person, not just making a buck. If you think they are sales driven(like other reviews suggest) I challenge you to shop around. Their classes, gear rental, sales, and dive trips are DRASTICALLY less then anywhere else. Just finished my OW cert. Very pleased with my decision to go through The Dive Shop. The instruction was excellent and easy to retain. After the classroom we then practiced step-by-step in the pool. Each lesson built off the last improving our knowledge and skills every class. I appreciated the fun and repetitive way this course was taught. Repetition is great when safety is concerned!!! Bob and Cameron helped me feel comfortable and confident in the pool and on my OW dives. I highly recommend their services and am planning on taking their advanced diver course. read more

I use these guys for my special order stuff. They are always price competitive, prompt and helpful. I bought a three-prong for my Hawaiian Sling here, and they were totally cool about taking the time to look it all up and order it for me. Called me when it arrived as well. One of the instructors is incredibly rude. He practically yells at you and is very impatient with slower people in class. The prices are lower here, but if I could do it again, I would pay more for a better experience. I hated going to these classes because of this instructor. He was very intimidating. He would shout at you if didn't figure something out the first time. For those who had a good experience with this place, it was probably because of Jerry and Mac. They were awesome. read more

We took the Open water Certification course from the dive shop. At first I was skeptical because the price was too good to be true, it's not! I bought my fins at The Dive Shop just before a recent trip to Florida. The first time I went in for their month long anniversary discount sale. I talked to Bob for a little while and he said I should come back with my boots so I could try the fins and get the correct size. He wasn't pushy at all and he was very friendly. They gave me a couple of peaches on way out. I returned a week or two later with my boots. Mac was at the store helping a couple with a purchase which was fine. I looked around for a bit and chatted with the other customers while they were at the register. Mac was super nice and really patient as I tried on two types of fins in a couple sizes over and over. I bought the fins and used them on my trip with no problems. I have not taken a class through this dive shop, but I'm hoping to join them for one of their monthly trips to Blue Lake sometime in the next couple months. Also, their rental package price seems to be better than anywhere else. read more

A few years ago I took my certification class back in college in southern Utah. Diving has been one of my favorite things to do ever since. When I got married, naturally I wanted to share the experience with my husband, so for his birthday I paid for the certification class through the dive shop in Bountiful. I was so excited to surprise him I also purchased a high end diving suit & some beginners gear to go with it - through the same place I got all my dive gear down south. His birthday came and he was just as excited as I would had hoped. We immediately jumped online and chose a date for him to get his certification. When the day came for him to go to class I pulled out my PADI certification books and briefly went through what he was going to be learning and gave him an idea of what to expect. He went to the class and a few hours later he came home clearly disappointed. I asked him how it went and he went on and on about how the whole 8 hours of class was literally a sales pitch for you to buy their gear. (Like ones where they want you go to to buy a timeshare or pots & pans). He then proceeded to tell me that the instructor literally made fun of anyone who bought their diving gear elsewhere and didn't want to bring his gear next time because it wasn't purchased through their dive shop and it wasn't worth the criticism. A little disgusted I asked to sit in the next class for a few minutes and I CLEARLY understood what he was talking about. I don't even know how they can consider it a class. Yes, they taught him the most basic of basics when it comes to diving - I assume to collect their money and send people on their way. But seriously, I don't know how anyone can come out of the classes there and even feel confident at all or with a decent knowledge of basic open water diving. The whole class is LITERALLY a sales pitch for you to buy their gear. In fact one of the rules that they make you memorise at the very beginning of the class is to remember to buy all of your gear from "the dive shop". As a person who lives off of a sales commission income I would like to give them some advice. NEVER make fun of a prospective client's' previous purchase - if you do why would you think they would ever trust in buying something from you after you just told them how dumb they were for buying something else. Secondly, we as customers are paying you to TEACH us what we need to know to dive safely. Yes the certification comes at the end, but you don't just hand it out after you make us sit through a bunch a bull about only buying gear from you. I would never recommend anyone getting your certification through these guys. Unless of course, you are interested in buying all of your gear from just this one store and then after you leave you plan on taking the time to teach yourself how to dive. read more
