Beautiful little spot in Philomath for breakfast! The staff is so sweet and welcoming. They had great suggestions! I tried the French toast and the pork ragu and both were awesome. The pork ragu is so freaking good! The egg was perfectly fried and the pork went so well with the veggies. I just wish there was a little more meat. It was very tasty, but there wasn't a whole lot, only a few small pieces. The french toast was also a hit. I usually don't like sweet breakfast, but this was so delicious. The fried apples were amazing paired with the sage sausage. The bread pudding is thick too so it soaks up all the butter and sauce. Absolute perfection. I got it without the maple syrup. I think the syrup would have been too much, because it's already so rich. The value was great for breakfast. They give you a ton of food for the price, so come hungry! I love this place. Big city food at small town prices. The service is great, the interior is quaint, albeit a bit small (and so sometimes there is a wait), and the food is so so so good. The only thing I don't love are the desserts, but I am an ice cream fan and so this isn't really a ding on the restaurant. My fav are their dinners. To be sure, breakfast is amazing here, but the small plates, that change seasonally, are worth the wait for the table. For comparison, I think the meals are better than Castor and are less expensive. read more

When we woke up this morning we were trying to figure out our plan for the day and realized it included breakfast. So whip out the phone, what does Yelp say? Well, with five star reviews the DH seemed like the place to start our day. Rolling Stones, the White Stripes and others joined us as we sipped our coffee. Which worked for us, wake up music for sure. We were the first folks today, but pretty quick all the locals began to roll in. You can tell a lot about a place when the folks show up and there food is on the table in 3 minutes. They clearly love it here. Super friendly staff and they knew most people by name. Buddy and the rest of the staff took wonderful care of us. Coffee, food, conversation. The trifecta. So, the main event, I know that's what you're waiting for... Ok, ok, ok... eat here! Cutie had the Pork Posale and it was the best he had had since we moved from NM. I had an omelet. I started off with one on the menu. I'm low carb right now so I needed to remove one ingredient. Buddy asked if I wanted to substitute that ingredient with something else... why yes, I ended up crafting the 3 ingredients I wanted into my omelet. It was amazing. Dizzy Hen? Yeah, it's dizzy alright! Here is my experience. I and a dozen other clamoring patrons are greeted with a FULL Restaurant. I think I count 40 or so seats. This is a great sign for a small restaurant in a small community. All the food on the tables look great, people look happy. The staff is personal and friendly as they communicate with their guest. Our 4 top orders 1 Mocha, 1 Latte, 1 Cappuccino and a Bloody Mary. Breakfast: 1 - Italian sausage omelette 1 - The Dizzy 1 - Cinnamon French toast 1 - Pork Ragu over Cheesy grits The food was hot, well seasoned and presented well. I ate the Pork Ragu and was VERY impressed. VERY. I won't speak to the other dishes cause I didn't eat them. It was worth the drive and I hope others give this place a shot. The addition of the purée adds a nice sweetness to it and an addition I've never seen anywhere else. Not sure what intrigued me more...the name of the location (philomath, or) or the name of the restaurant. Either reason is legit because they know how to cook! The warm carrot and spring onion salad spoke to me and thank goodness it did. The kitchen single handedly restored my faith in carrots as something with a flavor - a thing I had been pondering lately. The coriander pork tenderloin were next after being lured in by the description of the white beans being prepared by the 'king of beans'. They were terrific and by this time the place was getting busy. I am not a big chocolate mousse fan but gave that a try to round out what was a terrific non-rushed meal. It was not quite as revelatory as the warm carrot salad, but a great choice. The adventurous and varied menu looks like it changes over time so you'll just have to go multiple times to see what other culinary wonders they can create, and it is a no brainer to try it for breakfast. Woweezowee... Hit up my yelp app to find breakfast in Philomath.. and there it is. We usually stop before Philomath on our way back home to eat and just drive through the main strip of Philiomath.. You sure can miss a lot doing that and it's on Main St. so what is up with me huh? Packed as it was the weekend but we got in fast as the turnover was happening at that time. Very adorable looking place with also adorable staff that just made you feel so comfortable. I'm usually the fussy type (who knew?) that just doesn't place my order but picks the server's brain about something, or I don't want this but I want that on the menu, etc. BUT hey I know what I do want so there you go. And I got it. I ordered the "Dizzy Hen".. ya that IS one of the items on the menu for breakfast. Hens - eggs.. and ok I got it, the dish does make you a little bit dizzy because it's really good. I did ask if there were half orders (yea I did) and guess what.. not a stupid question. They do and they did. Bottom line, to die for.. the amazing béchamel sauce was delicious, and not too heavy, homemade and was perfect over their awesome biscuit. My egg was perfectly cooked as well which is very important since it did come from that dizzy hen. And it was plenty!! I am getting to be one of those old ladies? in that I save a little bit of my food for my dog.. it's usually in a little pile on the side.. that saying I did ask for some foil for and she said, oh you are saving that for your dog. I do the same thing. Let me get you something proper for that. :). Of course my dog approved his leftovers. Waitress showed up 5 min later to get us coffee. She took our order and it came out pretty fast. That was the last we saw of her. We had to flag down hostess to get coffee refill. As for the food. My wife's ham and cheese omelet was way way overcooked and dry with just a dab of cheese inside. My Dizzy Hen Benedict started out OK but when it cooled slightly the gravy turned to gum paste. Potatoes were great. Granted it was busy but they had plenty if very unexperienced wait staff. The hostess was outstanding and even remade our latte to go because their barista was clueless. Most of the menu items were under 12 dollars, my lunch was 9.50 Food: it was a little underwhelming to be honest, I expected a little better. The appetizer we ordered was amazing however- the almond hummus. I reccomend it. I had the duck ravioli and they were pretty dry. I applaud the concept of the dish and all its ingredients. I am not a fan of bread pudding so I didn't want to order the french toast made from the cherry bread pudding so I asked about a sample. I was offered a child's portion. After tasting it, I immediately wished I had ordered a full size. So delicious and with apples on top. The biscuits and gravy plate was delicious, made with fresh baked biscuits!
