Off season trip to Edisto island in October 2021. We left the pool at Wyndham looking for a place to eat. There were signs warning us that the service was limited due to difficulty with staffing. Yet, we were seated immediately on the back outside deck and served almost immediately. We observed three servers while there on this Tuesday early evening. The best part was that they allowed us to order from the kid's menu, which was just the right portion The three of us ordered the fried shrimp or flounder which came with fries and coke slaw. We were so delighted with Dockside! We were greeted warmly and were seated in the dining room. The outside was already packed when we got there but it looked fun. The bar was small in size but packed full with entertaining guests and bar tenders. The waitresses were genuinely kind. Don't come in here if your a smarty pants uppity twit because this isn't some fancy little chandelier parlor room. This my friends is a honest living, fun filled, good food, hearty laugh fill your belly up kind of place. The tacos are delicious and the tarter amazing and Cole slaw crispy. Hubby enjoyed the shrimp sauce and detected abit of horseradish so that floated his shrimp boat (Corona helped) . If your hungry for good sea food then get on in here and eat! read more

This restaurant was within walking distance to the condo we were staying in. Browsed the menu online and decided to check this place out. It's right on the marina. If food with a view is what you are after this place could foot the bill. We had a party of 8 and service was great. Started with the gator bites. They were fried perfectly and the sweet chili sauce complimented them well. Fantastic seafood meals. Super friendly staff, and the new server, Adaron, was so friendly and quick to bring us everything. He checked on our table at least five times and was amazing. The shrimp were plump and perfectly grilled. I did not expect that in the tacos, but they were the same shrimp that my husband got in the grilled basket. A really cool vibe to the place and I imagine in season the outdoor deck eating is awesome. I also imagine this place gets packed in summer. We are here in March, but I can say that compared to the other restaurants that we have gone to this week, this is the best deal and the best seafood. (We've paid a lot more for lesser quality meals. I don't want to name them because all the businesses are struggling, and it is off-season, and the meals weren't bad- just saying this is THE PLACE to go to.) read more

This is one of my families go to places during our stay on Edisto Beach due to its convenience. I will say that most of the food is just OK, its pub food so I don't really expect five star dining. The reason for the low rating for this place is due to the lack of Covid protocols. On New Year's night there were people coming in there with absolutely no mask, groups of men and women and children all out on the dance floor with no mask. I will say that the staff and my family were the only individuals who kept mask on. Honestly, when people are eating and drinking they're not gonna have on their mask, but these people were coming in there with no mask and nobody on staff was holding them accountable. Also noticed that the owner didn't have her mask on at all while she was mingling with guest. My family and I left. read more

Dockside hosted the solo artist Cody Webb on a Saturday night. They did not advertise that you HAD to be over 21 to enter the bar area to watch him perform. The bouncer was polite, but would not allow us to enter under the age of 21. They would not simply draw an X on our hands or give us a colored wristband. They did NOT advertise that this event was for 21+. Their location on Maps even said that the venue was "family friendly". Along with the fact that Cody Webb is a clean artist. Who expected them to turn away underaged people? Not me. I am very disappointed. I have been excited for this concert for a long time- and Dockside ruined it. I understand that underage drinking is an issue, but I also understand how easy it is to draw an X on someone's hand- not hard. Furthermore, not only have I been looking forward to hearing this artist play FOR MONTHS, I drove HOURS for this vacation destination and planned my vacation around this particular weekend because of his performance. I am very upset that I was not informed of the 21+ policy before I went. I didn't even get a chance to try the food. LAME. Do not recommend if you are under 21. read more

Rated them a 4 because the food is great but it's a whole in the wall kind of bar. I had the Captains player. It came on 2 plates. I had it fried, shrimp, oysters, scallops, flounder, deviled crab, fries and slaw. Great food and big portions. The shrimp are jumbo, so are the scallops. Loved the oysters, deviled crab is one of my favorites. Drink prices were a little high I thought, but may be right for a tourist area. I would go back. read more

This is our second time at Edisto Island and our meal at Dockside was the best we've had. Dockside is the best example of don't judge a book by its cover! I had the grilled captains platter and it was amazing!! The portions were generous and the food was grilled perfectly! Not to mention the seasoning and sauces were also delicious! This restaurant has been here for a while but has reopened under new management according to our excellent server, Kaci. It's tricky reviewing restaurants in beach or resort areas. You can't hold them to the same standard that you would a great restaurant in an urban area. The menu is limited, but it's a very nice place to go on Edisto Island. The food was fresh and well prepared and the servings generous. The waitperson, Kaci, who took care of us was very attentive without being intrusive. We sat out on the deck as it was lovely evening with a nice breeze blowing. The views are pleasant and the tables/chairs comfortable and clean. The deck is surrounded by fishing boats and opens onto the creek. I didn't notice any particular place to park a boat if you get there by water. This seems to be an issue at most of the waterfront restaurants on the island. The bar leans towards highballs and beer I guess as there was some difficulty making a straight gin Martini. It arrived as ...... well, it arrived in a water glass with a slice of lime instead of a twist of lemon. It was okay in a watery kind of way. It was also really short and didn't taste much like a Martini. I don't know what the other cocktails might be like and probably won't try them out, but the Martini was something of a farce. To be fair, they offered to try again and you can't say better than that. We had a fried oyster basket at $18.00, and grilled Scallop Basket at $19.00. Both came with good slaw and waffle cut fries. Appetizer was Tuna Bites at $12.00. We'll go back. The bar will doubtless improve and you can do a lot worse on Edisto Beach. read more

I'm a fan!!! I really enjoy dockside. Though I have not ordered food from this establishment, I do frequent when in town for the drinks, the crowd and pool table. The drinks are very well priced, the selection is great and the staff is very friendly and engaging. I love that locals go here because that makes it funner. If you decide to eat, there is an outdoor bar and seating area that sits over the marsh which is very cool. There is only 1 pool table but anytime I have wanted to play, it isn't being used. read more

It ain't fancy. It's a dockside bar and grill with a really nice screened in deck on a creek with a shrimp boat parked next door. Cold beer. A limited but very satisfactory menu for a bite to eat while enjoying the island. Flounder basket and fries was better than what I have been served at much nicer places for a lot more money. Philly cheese steak was gobbled up by my son. We had a couple beers and enjoyed the view immensly. Waitress was very prompt and handled a nice size crowd solo. We will be back. read more

I'll give them credit for their venue in that it's right on the water (the back of the restaurant is really a dock), but their service leaves a lot to be desired. A large party of us descended onto this bar at 10pm on a Saturday, and I just don't think the staff was prepared/trained/experienced enough to handle a higher than normal volume of patrons. The bartenders appeared extremely frustrated and disoriented, and then at one point, just stopped serving all of us and only served the locals/regulars. If I was the owner of this bar, that would sound like a wasted financial opportunity to me. But can I blame them? 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers, so I understand the cold shoulder. But I hope that the bartenders learn how to handle tourists and high volume for their own sake in the future. read more

Possibly the worst meal we have ever had! NOTHING is local which is a shame as its on the water and you are lead to "think" the fish is local but alas its not. Nachos were served with velveta cheese and canned salsa which is not what you expect for the price. Flounder tacos smelt like old bad fish. The crowning glory was the grumpy server who when I returned my food didn't even apologize or acknowledge our complaints but also the woman seated behind us THROWING UP while eating!! Yes, the food was that bad. As far as we could tell the server didn't offer her assistance and she just continued to throw up in napkins. DON'T EAT HERE! I was really happy with my evening here! The service was good and the Palmetto Amber local beer was really good! I really enjoyed watching the boats go by while sitting on the dockside patio, it was very relaxing. My only complaint is that they had one of the most foul smelling bathrooms I've ever encountered and I had to ask the bartender about soap because they did not have any in the bathroom. For that reason (It's a restaurant so the idea of no soap is a bit scary) I am giving 3 stars. If not would have been a 4! read more

This location needs to be seriously looked into. The menu lacks variety and honestly, it's was unclean and filthy. The bathrooms were appalling, and flat out unsanitary. Outdoor seating is the only place to sit due to how the bar had locals that are loud, drunk, and have no social graces. Several people were drunk and occupied a large section of the eating area. The menu lacks variety, and the service has no patience. "No soup" is how our rude waiter responded when we asked for the soup of the day. Not only were the conditions unclean, unsafe, and gut wrenching, but we had to constantly fight away flies from our food. All in all this is an amazing place if you are drunk or high. Please don't go here. Worst experience I've ever had, and I've once fell into a nest of ants. Somebody please inspect his restaurant cause I know it violate several health codes. read more

A great restaurant/bar tucked away on the quiet yet wonderful vacation spot of Edisto Island SC. About 45 minutes south of Charleston, this small island features very little when it comes to activities, but features a small cluster of delicious family owned restaurants. Dockside is en-grained into the history of the island and its murals on the walls display this. One large mural on the wall depicts the old rotating bridge that used to bridge the gap from the SC mainland. The atmosphere upstairs in the restaurant is a quiet family atmosphere. The food of course is what always drives me to come back however. The first thing you get to dine on after placing your order is a delicious well equipped salad bar complete with 2 types of soup. Up until recently you could not get sweet tea at this restaurant. This was the only thing strange about it. After your meal arrives you will be pleasantly surprised to find a healthy portion of only the freshest seafoods prepared and served hot fresh out of the fryer or oven. I also recommend you try the fries. Sure potatoes are all the same right? certainly not! The fries here at the Dockside are battered in what appears to be a ranch mix or sour cream/onion mix that makes them simply amazing. I could eat them every day! If you have not discovered the amazing little island of Edisto SC, you should take some time to check it out. When we arrived the other day, the bar was empty - it's off season and we walked in between lunch and dinner. They have a covered porch out on the dock - low tide on a salt marsh, smells kinda fishy (duh). As we were going out to the porch, a family was leaving. They stopped us and made a point of saying "that was the worst food we've ever had". We were hungry and nothing else was open at the time so we decided to not rely on one unsolicited review. We made the right choice. Dockside is a bar. It isn't a gourmet restaurant. They serve good beach bar food. They make their own hush puppies (a southern staple) served with honey butter. The server was friendly and didn't deserve the one penny tip left by the previous family. We love places like Dockside - relaxed, friendly, laid back. Maybe that other family just didn't value the experience. But, unfortunately there isn't an Applebees on the island for them to get thrown out of. And I for one am glad of that. read more

Great place to have a drink - I love the screened in dock (wonderful for watching boats, birds, etc.) and also a good place for a decent meal (nothing fancy, but it's dependable). I always go for shrimp or something that involves local fish. The staff there are always friendly and attentive; we have good conversations with new people every time we visit, and I appreciate the laid back atmosphere. Staff was rude and inconsiderate, the bathrooms were highly unsanitary, and the quality of drinks were not representative of their price.
