I really love this place. I have went here multiple times (since i'm local ) sometimes just to drink sometimes to eat when you go here you feel like family . They come and check on you multiple times always with a smile . I've tried everything on the menu during my multiple visits here and i feel like this is a real gem on the island ! Sushi is better than sushi i've had in charleston . I love the design of the restaurant and the fish tank really caught my eye ! can't wait till they open the outside area .

Excellent food, service and ambience! Had a fun menu with great items to choose from. We'll definitely go back again.

While visiting Edisto Island, we decided we didn't feel like going out to sit down and eat, so we…read moredid a quick search for somewhere nearby to grab a pickup order and landed on Whaley's Restaurant & Bar. Ordering was quick and easy with no issues at all. When we arrived, we waited a short bit at the bar while the food was being prepared, but nothing too bad. Overall, the food was pretty good! The crab bisque was delicious and definitely one of my favorite things we ordered. The crab cake was tasty too, although it was a little more breaded than I personally prefer. The fried stuffed bacon-wrapped shrimp was probably the biggest disappointment of the meal, but not terrible. My friend enjoyed her food she ordered, though I can't remember the exact name of it. Service was decent -- nothing over-the-top amazing, but the staff wasn't rude either, so I'll take it! Overall, I'd give Whaley's about a 3.5 to 4-star experience. I'd probably go back, and if you're in the area looking for a convenient seafood spot near the beach, I'd say give them a shot!

We chose this restaurant due to reviews and proximity. We…read morearrived shortly after their opening at 5p.m. on a Wednesday. The restaurant was somewhat busy, even then. (This is considered the early side of Spring Break.) Adair was our server, and was prompt and friendly! He was all we could have wanted in an efficient server. I was disappointed that the only water they served was bottled. Therefore, Pinot Grigio it was!!!! We received drink orders promptly and Adair asked for our food orders. We were an easy group. Two shrimp baskets with raw fries (which to the unaware are house made chips), a Fried flounder basket with regular fries, and two kids cheeseburgers, with regular fries. The seafood orders also come with slaw and hush puppies. Later, Adair told us they were out of hush puppies. Adair went the extra mile and brought me a bottled water due to HIS perceived wait for our food. The fried shrimp were "gulf size" and perfectly cooked! Breading was light and not overdone! The founder was tender and flaky, the cole slaw was not of the "food processor" variety, and the fries were good, (crinkle cut). This was a very good "family trip" restaurant stop. We generally cook every night, this restaurant needed to provide the "shrimp" cravings of two of us! We will return on future visits!!! This is a place that has been around since 1948. Just know the venue is in an old gas station which suited me!!!! My daddy was a Gulf oil dealer in the 60's-1980's. Enjoy!

Where to start.... The space itself is cute. There is plenty…read moreof nearby parking, it's nicely decorated and appeared clean. The staff was nice and it did not take long to receive our food. I do not enjoy being negative, but I have to be honest. We ordered the hushpuppies as an appetizer - they were not even warm, they were dense, and basically at room temperature. Our table was a high top, pretty small, and very wobbly, so we were paranoid the whole time that something was going to fall off. I ordered the Volcano Roll, which is spicy tuna, cream cheese, avocado, and jalapeño with a couple of sauces on top. It didn't say it was fried, but I don't mind that. HOWEVER, it was a little tough to bite into. The biggest issue that I had was that the tuna inside the roll was essentially CANNED TUNA. It looked like cat food. I have never seen tuna like that in a sushi roll. It was honestly the worst sushi I have ever had and sushi from the grocery store is better. I know there have been plenty of good reviews, but I'm assuming nobody else ordered sushi. Based on this experience, I will not be returning.

So glad this jewel in the rough has returned to the restaurant scene!…read more Some of the biggest and most tender shrimp on a fried platter in town! And that pile of fries to boot! What an amazing price point for this delicious feast. The calamari didn't disappoint either. The hibachi was a solid choice and the chicken was tender but the steak was thin and overcooked for my taste, but we also weren't asked the temperature we preferred. The hibachi veggies were lightly sauteed and still had some crunch on them. The rice wasn't over seasoned and was nice and sticky. Glad the decor and vibes haven't changed. Classy with an attainable down to elEarth feel. Service was a little slower than I'm used to in the prior iteration but everything came out as ordered. Definitely will return and glad to have them back!

Going that extra step certainly did not go unnoticed and something I value in a dining experience. First of all-- the matcha mocktail was a wonderful opener to our evening. We ordered the truffle edamame (our favorite), the chef's choice nigiri which was incredibly fresh, the salmon & lemon roll (a must order), and the spider roll. My partner said the mochi was the best he's ever had. We highly recommend this dining experience not only for the exceptional service but for the quality in every dish.

After looking at the menu we opted for the 6 course Omakase Menu ($150 per person) It was a phenomenal choice. Each dish better than the previous. Outstanding technique & presentation with the freshest of product. Omakase takes about 2 hrs which was perfect for us. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly and unless you want to sit at the bar (if available) book your reservation early. We parked in the visitors parking garage off of Ann St. it's very close by. Definitely check this gorgeous restaurant out.
