I needed someone to watch my Irish Setter, Scout, and our cocker/blue heeler puppy, Boomer, while we were out of town for a few days. Before we entrusted The Dog House with our dogs, we first came and checked the place out. They have 4 main indoor dog areas. One for large breed dogs, one for medium, one for puppies, and one for senior dogs (they may also have an area for small breeds? I know they take dogs of all sizes). They have separate stall kennels for night time as well as crates if your dog is a jumper (ie: would jump over the stall wall). They also have a grassy outdoor area for the dogs to run around outside (with real grass, not fake turf that can be found other places). The indoor areas are mostly cement floor and cinder block walls with a wooden gate for going in and out. The senior dog area is the exception. Catering to older dogs who would rather be comfortable and sleep, more than play, they have dog beds and soft, comfy couches for them to lounge on. They arranged for us to bring the dogs for a half a day, so they could test them in the sleeping areas (decide if the stall or crate would be better), and see which area would be best for them during daytime social hours. They don't charge for this and I love that they place dogs individually, based on personality and temperament, not merely size. For example, Scout (our Irish Setter), is large. She is by all accounts a large breed dog. However, her temperament is super mild and she does't really have an alpha bone in her body (I've seen her go belly up submissive for small poodles). They opted to put her in with the medium dogs, which was awesome as it kept her with Boomer, who is her very best friend, and allowed her to play with dogs who are a little more her style when it comes to romping. The dogs play as much as they're up for all day indoors and every hour or so outside. Their prices are reasonable (given the level of care) and the dogs are always supervised during play. At night, they only have to go 6 or so hours before someone is there to let them out in the morning (mine go longer at home!). We decided to have them stay. They cared for them for 4 nights and we couldn't be happier. Our dogs came home happy, healthy, and exhausted from all the play. I will definitely use them any other time we are needing overnight care. I also will likely partake in their daytime daycare on occasions when I know, due to our schedules, that our dogs won't get much exercise/play time. Get to it! read more

First Of all, I should have gone with my gut. I am not writing this to hurt this business, but to simply share my experience because I believe its important. I hold no grudge or I'll feelings towards this company. I believe that what happened to my 4 month old German shepherd husky mix was an accident but it was also from neglect. I do not believe it was intentional neglect, but I do believe that it was neglectful in nature. Dog parks make me a little nervous, so I found this place. They had great prices and great reviews. The reality is my dog has so much energy I exercise him for 30 minutes twice a day plus regular play and its still not enough for him. He needs to run and play with other dogs for a few hours a day for his exercise but also for his socialization. As a pet sitter and dog walker, I am pretty picky on how animals are cared for. When I walked into the dog house, I should have walked out. But I thought I was just being paranoid. I give people chances and try not to judge based on a front cover. The business is in a shady part of town and when I walked in there were 4-5 groups of dogs sectioned off in a "hallway" or "play area." To each group it sounded there were at least 5 dogs per group. There were only two people working full time and one working part time. That Is too many dogs for 2 people to watch over. There Is one group that goes outside and there is one person with the outside group, while the other person is "watching over" the remaining groups inside. The people are very friendly and seemed genuine, so I left my dog there for a couple hours. Thirty minutes later, I get a phone call. Sarah I believe her name told me that my dog was playing with two other dogs and a Boston terrier must have "knicked" him right above his eye. he has had battle scars from dog parks and got roughed up a bit, so I wasn't too worried about it. Puppies Bite each other, it happens. But when my husband brought him home, it was definitely not a knick. They minimized his injury. It was a bleeding and swollen quarter size puncture wound on his head that he cried every time you went near it. I decided to get the more full story which is this... They really don't know what happened because nobody was monitoring them, they are only speculating what happened. Then this morning, I woke up to my dog throwing up at 3:30 am. He threw up dark brown liquid (indication GI distress) with pieces of some type of fabric. I told them not to allow him to have access to any plush toys or rope toys because he will chew them and eat them in minutes. I called this morning which the guy said he knew nothing about it, he wasn't there. So I waited for a call back from someone who was there. Late in the afternoon I have to call back to which the same guy answered the phone and he was waiting to get the full story. The story he got was that when they seperated him from the dog who attacked him, he got access to a rope toy which they immediately took away. I have a very hard time believing he only had it for a few seconds considering how much of it he is vomiting and pooping out. At this point I'm getting upset because I feel they are being very dishonest with me. My dog is in his kennel when I am not here and when I am with him I always know what he's doing. The man then started playing semantics with me. Because I said it was some type of"cloth" that is not the same as the rope toy. He even said that maybe he got into a leash... Do the dogs have free accesses to leashes and do you guys really not watch them enough to know if they did that? Ultimately It was my call to leave him there which I did and now I deeply regret it. I do not believe these people did anything intentional, I think they simply have too many dogs or not enough people. They also don't require the vaccination for the canine flu, which my dog has had his first vaccination for, but now he us very lethargic and may be getting sick from what I hope is not the GI issue or the canine flu. I hope the owners change some things and realize dogs deserve better Care. if this was a child Care, this would be totally acceptable and their doors would either be closed pretty quickly or have lots of complaints and lawsuits. I think because these people seem so genuine and down to earth and "for the dogs" nobody really complains or doesn't know how they operate. At this point, a dog park would be safer because at least you would be able to step in ASAP. They are on the other side of the doors, it takes time for them to take action if there's an issue. I do not wish to cause harm I just want people to be aware and I hope the owners take better Care. If my dog gets very ill, which I may have a $100 vet bill tomorrow for his GI issue, his bite and now for the lethargy I will be making a formal complaint. For now I want them to understand that their Care was unsatisfactory and I hope they take better Care of the dogs they are trusted with. read more

Our dog Lily was badly dehydrated after a four day stay. Water in crate was empty. Crate was full of poop so we know she wasn't let out. Absolutely disgusting that a business could treat an animal yhus way. read more

Our dog, Cash, LOVES going to The Dog House for daycare. I didn't want him to be alone all day when I had to go to meetings and I wanted him to socialize with other dogs since he's still a puppy. I also wanted him to be familiar with a place in case I needed to board him. He's now been going for 6 months and every time I ask him if he wants to go to "school" and see Justin, he jumps for joy and runs to the door to get in the car without hesitation! When we arrive, he then runs to the door and straight to Justin! The staff is great, trustworthy and very caring. They know the personalities of each dog and do such a great job. The facility is always clean and the dogs are always happy. They are reasonably priced too!! This is definitely Cash's home away from home. I wouldn't take him anywhere else!!! read more

I was in need of a dog boarding place and also good trainer for my toy poodle ( 5 and half month old) and I stumbled upon this place in Google. I decided to call them and maybe have a consulting class to see how it goes. since I have a small dog - I wanted private coaching that helps the dog get with my lifestyle and house rules rather than just learning commands.she is one hyper puppy. But unfortunately they don't do private classes or demo /consulting classes. But the owner on the phone said that we were welcome to sit and watch the class if I wanted to.Being a new dog owner, I (just me, my husband minus the dog) decided to sit and watch this class (and several other dog training places which requires appointments and fee for consulting ).Glad that I did- he was so good in what he is doing. I really enjoyed that class. He talked about so many points and very enjoyable. Solid, quality training I should say. Before leaving I wanted to check out thier bakery, as thier website said they bake homemade cookies. Linda did not have any cookies that day ( bad luck :() but she did give me couple of cookies from the batch she had for free. Best of all, my puppy who usually doesn't eat much cookies( guessing coz they are hard for her tiny teeth and yes my puppy loves soft food) loved it. Best customer service!! Bottom line: very friendly people and they know what they are doing. 6 stars for thier courtesy and service. read more

We have worked with a few dog daycares in the past, and none of them have come close to measuring up to The Dog House. They are family owned, bake their own goodies, sell excellent dog food and above all else really care about the dogs. They understand canine behavior and work with each dog's unique personality to ensure they get socialized appropriately with the right amount of exercise and playtime without being overly excited. I am the definition of crazy dog lady and I never wonder if my dogs are in good hands when I leave them in the care of The Dog House. I rave about them to anyone who asks and I wish I could give The Dog House ten stars for how great their services are! read more

If you have a dog and want a trainer or need doggy daycare or doggy boarding or all the above, The Dog House is the place to go. You can get advanced training and certifications like the CGC (1 in 5 places you can go in town). Now the training isn't some half rate Petco or PetSmart, it's quality handling training that is useful and productive. Our dog has been officially trained since 14 weeks of age and I don't think we could have done that with Petco or PetSmart. I love how our pup gets house made treats after daycare and has real grass to play in outside during her stay. My pup and I feel like family now. read more

Not a friendly place. No toys because they're not allowed. All the dogs do is move from one place to another following noises from outside the fence.. Just look at them all over the country they're accessible by your cell phone. I have a 7 1/2 pound Maltese and his last day there was when I saw them dragging him across the floor by his collar. They are not allowed to pick them up. I recommend that you look at another Camp across the country if you plan on keeping your dog in others while traveling. I do think that the ones in Boise and Meridian are safe place. I also think that they are extremely boring. When I picked my dog up he wanted to go for a walk and go running and go crazy. When I picked him up from his last daycare he was exhausted from playing. Just saying watch the videos before you make a decision here. read more

Love their hours (open until 7pm), love their prices for daycare ($3/hour), love their location (less than a mile from my house), and love the people (really seem to care about the dogs). I have only taken my puppy their 1 time, but I could tell he had a blast with the other dogs and the employees. I did take away 1 star because the place unfortunately smelled like urine mixed with bleach. I understand that it can be hard to remove the urine smell, but I know there is a way to do it since petco, petsmart, and other dog boarding places I have been inside does it well. Perhaps it was because I was there later in the day, but I am hoping the next time we visit the stench will not be an issue. read more

I love the dog house. More importantly, my big English Lab loves the dog house. I have to be careful not to use any of the staff's names at home because my guy gets so excited thinking he gets to go play. He plays hard when he's there and is ready to settle down for a good nap when I get him home. The dog house is also my emergency back-up plan to keep my dog safe. Specifically, I broke my hand and needed go to the ER but had my dog with me and was way West of Meridian. It was almost 7 pm but I called the dog house and asked if they'd stay open for me and take my dog for the night, possibly more. They told me not to rush, they'd wait and be there as needed. One day I decided to attach a recorder to my dogs collar, see how her day was at doggie daycare. After listening to 4 1/2 hours of the recording I was so sad for her. Her day consisted of yelling, loud barking, and she was left to drag her leash around all day long. She went outside one time and still no one said her name, no one talked to her, and no one played with her. While inside the small room she basically cried the whole time. In the background all I heard from the staff was "Shut up", " Knock it Off", and "Stop". In those 4 1/2 hours I did not hear any positive reinforcement directed towards any dog. This review will cover two aspects of The Doghouse - the daycare operations and the training. DAYCARE. A friend of ours had recommended the Doghouse. As our last dog had not been well socialized with other dogs, we thought we'd start our new pup off with a different approach. At 5 months or so, we started bringing him for one or two half-days of daycare, purely for the purpose of interacting with other dogs and puppies. Justin and the crew here were absolutely great. Our pup has really enjoyed coming here - he strains at the leash to get inside asap. From his reactions in greeting whichever staff member is present, it is very clear he likes them all tremendously. Although we haven't used their boarding services, our thought was to board him here - at a facility he is familiar with and with people he knows. TRAINING. With a new puppy in the household, we knew that training was in order. We have had dogs for over 30 years, but feel we can always learn from the latest training methods - and did we ever! Richard ( one of the owners) uses a praise-based training method. We were amazed at the results - especially when he demonstrated on newbie dogs attending the class. He was able to get boisterous dogs to walk docilely beside him within 30 seconds and only using words of encouragement. The training does rely on the use of a choke collar - but not to choke the dog - instead a light pull on the leash provides the dog an aural reminder of what (s)he should be doing. I was not a fan of choke collars, but now understand how they can be used humanely to communicate with your dog. As Richard, says, the class is really to train the owner in how to train their dog. He also provides some great insight into how dogs think - and ultimately that helps in our interactions. Awesome class and we cannot recommend it enough. After reading all the positive reviews on The Dog House I was excited to go in for a tour. This place is on my way to work and I am looking to take my dogs to a doggy daycare for socialization and exercise. I went in on my day off and was greeted right away, which was nice. She showed me around to a few areas but quite honestly, the place was NOT welcoming what so ever. Everything was concrete (which I get for sanitation purposes, but I've seen and worked in places like this that have lots of options other than concrete). The walls to each "room" were about 6 feet-ish, and all the dogs were just closed off in different rooms with no one interacting with them, watching them, loving on them, or playing with them. The dogs were all jumping and crying at the doors to try and get attention. There were only 2 people working. The girl told me there was an outside area but apparently couldn't show it to me. After I left I drove around back to see if I could see the outside area, and I could a little through the fence. Mostly dirt with a few patches of grass. I was also curious to learn about the 'bakery' they had that seemed so popular online, but it was not even mentioned to me or talked about. Overall, I was extremely disappointed as I had high hopes for this place. Will never bring my dogs to this place. read more
