Had a hankerin' fer a dawg. So after taking a few rolls of 120mm film to Digital Pro to be developed, I headed to The Dogfather with glee. It's been a few years since I've been by; so, I was truly looking forward to getting something. I chose The Brat & tots (plain). I was very happy with my choice. The gentleman greeted me immediately. I thought it would take me a minute, but, as I stated, I chose The Brat immediately. I'm a little high strung from my age, so people kinda chuckle. It's cute. I make me smile. They put the perfect amount of mustard on it too! See the photos, but it comes covered with cabbage & crispy fried onions. It is amazing. I was able to get a whole 1/3 of it eaten before my body shut down. Tot wise, they were hot & perfectly fried! I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they offer you various other dips as well. So, I got ranch cuz, um, of course. Also, I really like their soda brand. I can't remember it, but it's a dia de los muertos skull for the logo, but I love their roots beer, which was my beverage of choice today. This is an official Local Favorite of mine! Dogfather is in a really low key location, and when you walk in the vibe is completely chill. My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong. read more

Everything on the menu is fully customizable! They had a dog of the day, and even a "plain Jane" dog which is what I got. Super tasty loads of flavor. We got tots to share for the table, and I will say these are the best tator tots I've have in a very long time! My daughter, who is 9, just wanted a playing burger with cheese- which was technically not on the menu- but they were so kind to switch things up. Customer service was great, and the cashier was very patient and explain everything to us. We loved the decor- which was very Godfather themed. There are a couple seat in doors, but more seating outside with umbrellas at each table. I highly recommend The Dogfather to anyone who loves hotdogs and great burgers. read more

Second visit and nothing but good things to say! Service is wonderful and fast. Great weather to have dinner outside. Lots of planes flying overhead, our puppy loves planes. Also love this place because they're dog friendly. They usually have water bowls for dogs. Lots of delicious options for vegans but learn from my mistake: you have to ask them to make your hot dog vegan or else they use the regular recipe. Overall, great experience! I hate hotdogs but this place is absolutely amazing! They have such a fun menu with crazy options. Hotdogs or burgers loaded with unique topping combos. They tasted AMAZINGGGG. My burger was hot and juicy. Absolutely flavorful and honestly just perfect. The inside of the restaurant had a nice vibe and was kept neat and clean. Also the worker was extremely kind on explaining the menu to us and making sure we had what we wanted. Cat is amazing! The best customer service we have gotten since being here in San Antonio. She was attentive and made great conversation. She sold me on a $2 margarita (Thursday special) and I added watermelon to add some flavor. They have some cool dogs with crazy toppings - it was hard to chose! But I went for the Drop it like it's Hot (Bacon wrapped all beef hot dog, nacho cheese, sour cream and fried jalapeños) and 1/2 order of curly fries with their homemade chili and cheese. My brother had The Guac, my SIL had the Pop It Like It's Hot, and I had the Elote. My SIL rated hers as a 8, it had jalapeños that were very spicy so she had to eat them separate along with a tot but overall she enjoyed it. My brother rated his as a 9 and said he'd def come back. The elote dog was good. The bun was toasted, has enough elote and crema to compliment the taste. The hot dog was juicy. Next time I think I'll ask if I can get my dog toasted/grilled too. I had the Sucia Tots. They were really good, crispy, and right amount of condiments. I also ordered the frozen margarita and it was DELICIOUS! I normally don't do frozen because they get too watery but this maintained its flavor throughout the dinner and it stayed cold! Service: You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. The Dogfather has been my go to place when in San Antonio for a while. They're always fresh, loaded with toppings and the service truly can't be beat. I always switch up with hot dog I order, but you can't go wrong with any of them. My personal favorite is the Frito Pie Dog, with an order of fried pickles on the side. The dogs give a nice snap when you bite into them, and the Fritos add a nice crunch. The fried pickles are always fresh with a great twang and the ranch can't be beat. I love Dogfather! They have the best hotdogs AND now they have dogs fried in corn tortillas for those of us (like me) that need gluten-free. (this is a much better option than bun-less) BUT if you do get your dog on a bun, the buns and grilled and buttery.
