We were unexpectedly in San Antonio for a day. One day. All the bazillion fantastic places to eat in San Antonio, and i can choose only 3 (breakfast, lunch, supper) for my meals. Benjies definitely makes the cut!! We enjoyed my favourite ABLT and chips and they was as amazing as always: the chips were crisp, the bacon was crunchy, the tomato was flavourful, the arugula added sharp contrast, and the avocado/dressing put the creamy icing on top of this fantastic sandwich. The employees are so informative and polite! I had never been and asked a lot of questions. I ordered the cheese steak, fries and bacon, jalapeño deviled eggs with fries. The cheese steak comes with peppers, onions, mushrooms and ranch. I told them ranch on the side, but the cook didn't read that. It was still good minus the CILANTRO in the ranch. I did call and told them about it. They offered to remake it, but i said no. I did mention to make a regular ranch because some people don't like cilantro or/ is allergic to it. The girl I spoke to said it was a good idea. We'll see if they do it. I will go back and try other stuff. read more

I've now been to Benjies Munch several times over the past few years. First found out about it when my wife was on her "keto kick"; apparently, the place has a lot to offer those looking for a high fat, low carb diet. Every time I go, I leave with the same feeling: that the food was good, that the service was good and friendly, but the place is never top of mind when I'm deciding where to eat. Not quite sure why that is. Most recently, I went in on an afternoon about 3p for a late lunch. Had the patty melt, and I recommend it. You definitely get your moneys worth; big thick patty on Texas toast...toasted perfectly.. better than a grandmother used to toast it. Also, don't skip their hand made chips. Ordinarily, I'm not a "chips as a side guy", so me telling you not to miss their chips says enough... Had a nice relaxing lunch, stayed a while...read a book. It's a nice spot ...part rustic...part modern, maybe? Anyway, It's nice you don't have to worry about bussing your table. The employees will definitely check on you throughout your meal and offer to clear away any plates. Not quite sure why we don't visit this joint more often. I'm shocked I haven't reviewed this place yet as we have been many times. Benjies Munch is a favorite of ours, especially as I require a low carb gluten-free diet. They have many keto and gluten-free options and are willing to accommodate someone with celiac. I've taken new people to the area as well as people visiting for the first time and everyone loves it. Their best chicken sandwich was literally called the best chicken sandwich my friend had ever had. My only complaint is that there is an unusual smell in the restaurant and I can't quite figure out what it is, but maybe it's just me.That said it is really easy to order to go! read more

Got try Bennie's for the first time at an event where they had a food truck version. The food truck was spacious with 3-4 workers i believe. I ordered their best chicken sandwich. The sandwich was really good from a homemade butter bun, two chickens topped with jalapeños, lettuce and a cream sauce. The flavors were well put together. The service was friendly and quick I didn't wait long about less than 10minutes. I ll have to try that sandwich again but at the restaurant itself. read more

I found myself driving by Benjie's Munch at the exact moment my stomach was reminding me I had not fed it yet today. I have been meaning to give it a try, so why not today? I am so glad I did. Let's start with the service. I was greeted at the counter by a very friendly representative and asked if it was my first time. When I answered in the affirmative, I was welcomed and offered answers to any questions I might have about the menu. It was pointed out that all items are made from scratch, which I appreciated. I decided to go with the Cuban with onion rings as my side, but the Brussels sprout leaves were also calling to me. I added an order of them. The food arrived very quickly, and the server offered additional condiments and cutlery. He was extremely attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The Cuban was delicious and on point (I lived in Tampa for several years)--crispy bread, tart mustard and pickles, the bite of salt in the thick slice of ham perfectly set off the melty Swiss and tender pork. Excellent. The only problem--and it is far from a problem--was that those Brussels sprout leaves were so addictive that I finished the entire order before touching that delectable sandwich. I could only eat a quarter of the sandwich before crying "uncle" and taking the rest to go. I am so fortunate to have tried Benjie's today. I will definitely be back for another round. Review # 400, and I'm so glad it is for an outstanding place! My wife was having dental work nearby and one of the dental assistants recommended this place. I looked on Yelp and found out that I had bookmarked this place some time ago as one of the places I needed to try. This place was in the extended shopping center we were in, and we decided to drive to it as it was so hot. Finding it, we found a nearby parking spot in the shade and took it. We arrived a little early, so there was not a crowd (that changed considerably before we left). Walking in, we found a few tables were taken, but that nearly all in the overflow area were empty. We only had 1 couple in front of us waiting in line so that gave us time to look at the menu that is on the wall. We decided what we wanted by the time the other couple had ordered. The help was so nice and knowledgeable and helped us with ordering. She also was quick to tell us about how they grind the meat daily, made their own chips daily, and in fact just about everything was made in house daily. While we were talking with her a young man walked up behind the counter. It turned out he was the owner's son, and he was so friendly. We paid for our order and went and got a table in the overflow area. It was not long until the food arrived. It was just as we ordered, hot, juicy, and so very tasty. The burgers were cooked to order, the chips were amazing, and the side order of fries were great. Everything was seasoned so well, just like I would have done it at home:) Talk about service. While we were eating a young lady came to check on our food. After a while, the owner's son came to check on us. Finally, the owner came around to check on us. Amazing!!! The owner actually spent quite a while with us talking and told us his story about how the restaurant came to be. Such a nice man, and in fact, they all were. Will I return? A definite yes. Every time I leave, I leave satisfied and full. Anytime I have a burger craving, this is the place I crave. The restaurant is owned by a small family, and they are some of the friendliest and most attentive people I have ever come across. Only because it was so huge!! They say their patties are 1/2 pound, and usually you expect that to cook down a bit, but these seemed to still be half pound on the bun. Super juicy. Melty cheese. Nice brioche bun. Very delicious. But the fries. Oh the fries. Shoestring fries aren't my favorite. But I can tolerate them if they aren't overcooked. These are overcooked. I was not a fan. When I go back I'll definitely skip the fries. They weren't for me. There's a large selection of sodas. Fountain and bottled. You can choose any of them with your meal. Again tho, very delicious burger. This spot is easy enough to find. Right off blanco on bitters next to bush's chicken. Plenty of parking. My husband and I decided to try it do to good reviews and because they were one of the participants in San Antonio restaurant week (Culinaria). Upon entering we were met at the counter by an employee which we later figured out was the owner's son. He was so incredibly rude we were put off immediately and probably should have left. He let another young lady take over our order as he was clueless as to the Culinaria menu. We were ready to order but the "special menu" wasn't in the registrar so we waited and waited. We finally ordered the "special" menu. What a complete joke. For $20.00 per person you received a split meal which consisted of a shared chicken sandwich, shared appetizer (deviled eggs so we got one each) and a dessert which was almost inedible. We ordered two soft drinks and our bill was over $50 with top!! NEVER AGAIN!! read more

One word. Delicious! The service was quick and simple. The gentlemen that helped me were nice and answered my questions. Since it's a food truck it is located inside Hops and Hounds. My cousin selected this place to cater my aunt's 90th birthday recently. I was unfamiliar with this restaurant but I became a fan very quickly. Can't say much about the ambiance as they brought out the food truck and parked it at the end of the driveway. Since they brought the food truck, the menu options were limited. However, there were great options to choose from. I opted for the Cuban sandwich, which was paired with fries. The sandwich was top notch! The fries were just as great as the sandwich. I was quite impressed especially coming from a food truck. I made it a point to snag another plate for the following day before the truck shut down. For my second plate, I went with the spinach and artichoke grilled cheese with bacon. After spending a few minutes in the oven, this sandwich and fries were just as tremendous as the first. Lots of burgers, grilled cheeses, mac n' cheese, etc. The prices are all pretty reasonable, in the $10-15 range which includes a side of chips/fries and a beverage. They have one of those fancy Stubborn Soda fountains with unique flavors like Citrus Hibiscus, Pineapple Cream, Black Cherry, Agave Vanilla, Rootbeer. Yum! As well as some other bottled options like Jarritos and iced tea. The staff are all really friendly. We were there close to closing time, but they didn't rush us out the door and told us to take our time and enjoy our meal. We were the last out, actually as they began cleaning up the dining area. Since coming last time, they have expanded so there is more seating and a few seating option outside. They have a kids menu. My kiddos tried ordered the grilled cheese that comes with fresh made potato chips and ranch and the corn dog. Kids meals do not come with drinks. We tried the fried chicken sandwich & candy bacon burger combo that also come with potato chips and ranch. They have a soda fountain and a fridge with bottle drinks as well. Parking can be a little challenging on busy days. Note they are open from 7-7 M-F and 8-5 on Saturdays. read more

I probably could have asked but I decided I wanted all my belly room for that patty melt! I also love they didn't give too many fries, save all that room to finish your sandwich! Smart! No room but I forced myself to try the fluffer nutter. Everything was on point at this place around lunch time. Friendly staff and multiple follow ups to the table to ensure everything was good. The salad itself was pretty good. If you like more dressing on your salad I would recommend another container. The dressing was thick which made it hard to spread on the salad, however it was very flavorful and one of the better Caesar dressings I have had. The Brussels sprouts give a nice crispness to it and the sliced avocado goes over the top. The presentation of the salad was good as well. Ambiance inside was rather chill as only 12 people in before noon. I forgot about their Stubborn sodas and regret not getting a soda. Very impressed and they have a rewards card as well. Underground Fries 4/10 - these were on the "secret menu" and sounded fantastic. Sadly, they weren't as good as hoped. This item was the only thing we tried that didn't meet expectations. The fries were overcooked, and the dish was packed in the bowl a little tight, which made it hard to get out. Chicken on a Stick 10/10 - holy crap! This was probably one of the best COS I've ever had. The breading was on point and the chicken was cooked perfectly. This was a highlight of the menu for sure. Spinach Artichoke Dip 7/10 - the dip itself was flavorful and the texture was good too. The best part were the homemade chips! A little crunchy and oh so good.
