Revised 6/18: I called on a Saturday to get my Lift Master garage door opener fixed which had a broken circuit board. I explained the product and the problem. They got me an appointment Monday afternoon to do the repair. Once they arrived they explained that to replace the board would require sending away for the part and the cost of Installation would bring the cost to about $325.00. They recommended that a new unit be installed as it would only be about $150.00 ($465.00 and $65.00 for a keypad since the old one of another brand will not work) so I agreed. However, they do not carry Lift Master, only Genie. The Genie was a belt drive and was much quieter in operation and had some nice features that the Lift Master did not. Everyone I dealt with was courteous and helpful. Besides being amazingly quiet, the belt driven opener has a 15 year warranty as opposed to the 5 year warranty on the chain drive. The Bad: I could not program the car Homelink openers despite following the directions (and having done it many time with my old opener), finally got two programed but not the third and had to call the company and have them come out which they immediately did and got it programmed. Consumer reviews on Amazon and other online sites give this model and all Genie products bad reviews but the Owner tells me that he only sells the top of the line Genie openers and that he, personally, stands behind the products and honors the warranty even if there are problems with Corporate. Should I experience unresolved issues with the opener in the future I will downgrade my review. Up till now I am very pleased with the personalized service by The Door Man! read more

I was got up very early yesterday morning, to prepare for a work-related trip in a few days. This trip will leave my family at home. For some mysterious reason, one of my garage doors opened on it's own, in the middle of the night! Of course, I was concerned for the safely of my family. I called The Door Man and explained the situation, and it's urgency. They sent Matt over first thing today (while I was still in town). Matt was great. he diagnosed the issue, and another issue. We've used The Door Man twice in the past year. The scheduling system is a bit quirky, but I appreciated it. When you make your appointment it's for a day. Randy calls in the morning to let you know where you are on the schedule for that day. Both times we've used them they were right on time. About 8-10 months ago I scheduled a tune up and service for my garage door. We got Joey, who was fast and courteous. He completed the tune up but advised us our door was in bad shape. It made a lot of noise and was scraping on the frame when it went up and down. He advised we'd either need a significant service or replacement in the next year or else it'd damage our garage door opener and fail. Fast forward to the summer and we'd decided to do the necessary fixes. Called Door Man and Randy came out a couple days later to take a look at our door. He advised it needed work, but we should keep our current system. He told us we have a high end insulated door which would cost around $4k to replace. He said we could get it fixed and like new for around $800. We set up the appointment for today. Randy called this morning to let me know I was the first stop and Mat would be out around 8-8:30am. Mat showed up at around 8:15 and went right to work. Took about 2 hours and he got the system running almost like new. He explained there is a slight squeak when it starts to go down, but without changing the underlying structure of the supports there's nothing he can do about that part. The door raises and lowers smoothly with virtually no sound at all. He supported my panels with braces and changed a couple of the brackets out. He also added weather stripping on the outside for a finished and weather sealed finish and closed the gap I had at the bottom due to an uneven floor. The Door Man is my first call if I ever need any work completed on my garage door. Fast, fair, and friendly. So very thankful for this company, where we live out in fallon area its very hard to get any help. We called 7 company's in fallon,sparks reno & carson area we got two calls back with in the week. we called to ask for help as our garage door had crashed on me..so door was part open. If you cherish your elderly family and friends, choose any other garage door place other than The Door Man in Reno, NV. Randy, who is the phone contact person and Mack, who is a worker, are 2 of the biggest bullies I have ever dealt with when dealing with seniors. My Aunt, who is nearly 90 yrs old, needed a garage door opener. Unfortunately, she saw all the "great reviews" on this website and chose them to call. She has had nothing but grief from the beginning. First, Randy gave her a price to install, but then suggested 2 other devices, for additional costs, which she declined. Randy did not explain the devices well enough for her to make an thoroughly informed decision. She simply needed an opener to make her life easier dealing with the door at her age, plus she uses a walker because she is disabled. He also mentioned she would need an electrician to install a dedicated outlet for the opener plug, which she did have done. The opener was installed, but the first time she tried to use it, it wouldn't open. She called Randy on Monday who immediately raised his voice and loudly said "That is your fault for not installing ? device". I don't know what its called, but its a device to manually disengage the opener from the outside. She didn't want it because she thought anyone could access it. She called me in tears. I called Randy to find out what was going on. (Unfortunately we live in central Oregon 6 hrs away). After telling him why she declined the device for an extra $100, Randy explained it was a keyed device, no one but her could access it. I suggested he explain in more detail to customers her age. Randy raised his voice and got defensive with me and threatened to hang up because he didn't need me telling him how to do his job. I was able to calm him down by saying it was only a suggestion and that I would explain the device to her and we would pay the $100 for the device. An employee named Mack came out to install the device, which requires metal cord from the device to where the opener can be disengaged, allowing my Aunt to pull a cord from the outside. Mack told my Aunt she had to sign a release before he would begin any work. It stated she was responsible for any damage caused to door by installing the device which requires cutting a hole in the door. She said she didn't think she should have to sign it, but Mack got loud with her and said he was leaving. Because her car was locked inside, she felt she had no choice, so she signed. Mack called me after he installed. Said the bill was $450. I said Randy told me $100. Mack got loud with me stating he had made 2 trips out there. I just paid the bill and felt I could deal with it later. I just wanted him away from my Aunt. The next time she tried to use the opener, again it didn't work. (This was for a doctors appt., which had to be cancelled/rescheduled. First time it didn't work was her birthday and she wanted to go to lunch with friends, which was also cancelled because her car was locked inside garage). She tried to use the keyed device, but it wouldn't budge. She had a nieghbor and maintenance man also try. They couldn't get it to work either. Finally, after flipping an electric switch at the circuit box a few times, the maintenance man got the electric opener to open the door. He went in to see why the keyed device wouldn't work and found it was twisted and improperly installed. He called Randy at The Door Man to tell him what was going on and Randy hung up on him. Randy eventually called my Aunt and said he would get someone out to look at it. Meanwhile she had to leave the garage door open so she could use for upcoming appointments. Several days later, a different employee came and verified it had been installed improperly and he fixed it. We also had them install a battery back up incase electric ever goes out. Of course there was another charge for that as well as another trip out. Throughout this ordeal, my Aunt has called me several times in tears. Randy and Mack have treated her with total intimidation, disrespect, discrimination, just hugely bullied her throughout. I seriously doubt any of this happens when those 2 men deal with anyone who is capable of standing up to them. Shame on both for what they did and how they treated her. I plan to report them both to whomever I can and will help my Aunt do the same. read more

Here's why you have to use these guys and only these guys::: I had them check out my garage door which was malfunctioning . Instead of pitching and scaring us to replace it, he advised that we did not have to replace it immediately but we would have to do so eventually and gave us our options. He was very honest and was not pushy at all, like a typical salesman. These were the other questions I asked regarding my garage door and the responses he gave. SPRINGS: Was advised that they were still good and did not need to be replaced. ROLLERS: He explained the differences with the cheap plastic rollers that are used in track homes and the difference in the ball bearing units that they recommend. He showed me the difference in wear from an old one and a new one. I was not aware that they wore out at all but it definitely showed on mine. HINGES: He showed me the physical difference as to why my cheap track home hinges had ripped (because the existing ones were a much thinner gauge steel) and the thicker quality ones that they have available and recommend. INTERNET CONNECTIVITY: He was very well versed with the technology on the newer garage door opener units and how the available apps on phones can control them. Was not aware of this as well. Due to Randy's transparency, we decided to replace our garage door opener anyway to add the new tech (internet connectivity) we wanted. Well, the Door Man comes through again. The wall switch in the garage stopped working. After a few minutes, Matt Pergens from the Door Man figured it out.
