We got a new washer and dryer and needed some new doors for our laundry cupboard as our bifold doors didn't provide enough clearance for the new machines. We called Thompson doors and they sent someone over to take some measurements. A few days later, we got a telephone call, letting us know what kind of doors we could install that would give us more clearance. We went to their showroom, picked out the doors and the hardware that we wanted. Three weeks later the doors were installed. It took the gentlemen almost 4 hours to get them set up. They look amazing! Much better than we had envisioned. Their customer service was awesome. I could not find a door anywhere else, one that Thomoson modified in size to my exact specifications- fiberglass no less, 6- panel, and they did it for $250 less than a steel door of less quality anywhere else that I would have had to cut diwn myself! My 25 year old garage door opener started making unpleasant noises. I got an immediate quote (reasonable) to replace it and a quick appointment. Tim came out to do the installation. He looked at our cars and noted our older Lexus would not be able to "learn" the new digital code. Wife would prefer to keep her in-car Homelink rather than use the remote. Tim was able to replace the sprocket, shaft and gear on the old unit. Great work and saved me hundreds of dollars. They keep their trucks well stocked which enabled this cost saving alternate plan. Six years ago, when we remodeled our house and were looking for new doors and a new garage door, we visited Thompson's garage doors. We were completely ignored and left within 15 minutes. Now, years later, and still needing some new doors, including a front door, we decided to try them again. The salesman, Mr. Smith, greeted us immediately, so I was pleasantly surprised. He was very knowledgeable and helpful, and we ordered two doors from him, a side door in the garage and a front door. He stated that the front door would need to be stained and gave me the name of someone that could do it to make it look like real wood. John came to our house to do the measurements and to complete the order. He was wonderful and very professional. When the doors arrived, Mr. Smith told me that the installer would be coming and installing them soon. The installer, by the way, was wonderful; unfortunately, I have forgotten his name. Finally, this is the explanation for giving them only two stars. Mr. Smith should've been fully aware that the doors needed to be stained before they were installed and should have advised me so. The man that was going to stain them refused to do them now that they were installed, and it has been challenging finding someone else to do it, so I have ended up with a very expensive, unstained front door. (since then, Reno Paint Mart has referred me to someone that will do the job for me, thank goodness!) So, all in all, I find their service lacking and will be getting my new garage door someplace else. read more

Corey scheduled my appointment. He was professional, courteous and efficient. He gave me a two hour window of time when I should expect a technician to arrive. Miguel arrived within the window as promised. He was as professional, courteous and efficient as Corey. Miguel made several adjustments to the door and explained to me exactly what he had done when he was finished. His explanation was simple and easy to understand. If I could give this company zero stars I would. Took my mom into the store to find a new front door. There was nobody in the store which should have maybe been a warning sign. The salesman talked to my mom and I as if we were stupid. The salesman was rude and really didn't want to help us.They have been in business since the 1950's and they treat women as if we were still in the 50's. We had Thompson garage doors come out in March and tune up our garage door and put on a new bottom seal. September we noticed the seal was sliding to one side and getting caught in the track. We tried sliding it back on and it slid on, but it wasn't fully seated in the groove. I made a call to Thompson thinking it was under warranty. They had the tech come out. I was not there when he came out my mother in law was there. He looked at it and he said he could replace it and asked if she wanted it replaced. My mother in law asked we'll what do you think we should do. He looked at it and thought they should have put a clip on it and he didn't understand why it happened. He said he could go to the office and grab the piece and get it put on. He also mentioned he could tape it in there. My mother in law, said well what do you think is best. He said I can replace it. He never said it would cost anything and still thinking it was under warranty he replaced it. When done he said it would be $223. My mother in law said we'll why? It is under warranty. He then said no it wasn't. Service warranty is only 30 days. That was the 1st she and we heard about the warranty. I am sure it is on the paperwork, but we didn't see it. I talked to the office a couple of times. Each time they had to talk to someone different to see what they could do about it. They called me back and said that there wasn't anything they could do. So we were stuck paying the $223, which we would have not paid that or had a replacement if he would have told us the cost before hand as we thought it was covered under warranty. They said the technician was really good, so he would know what would need to be done. We'll if he was that good then it wouldn't have failed at 7 months and he would have said how much it was going to be before he did the work. It was miscommunication and in the end they didn't offer any relief on the cost nor own up to their part of the miscommunication. They could have at least met half way on the cost or offered something. They did nothing of the kind. Not good customer service or service work. read more

We purchased our home and one side of the electric gate at the entrance to the property did not work. They sent out a technician and advised they could replace the one opener but all of the equipment was VERY old. I already knew the other operator made noise when it was opening and closing. They recommended to just install a complete new system and I opted for this so we gad a reliable gate assembly. They replaced all of the electronics, both operators, and installed a new solar panel. They did a beautiful job and the installation was very nice looking. It has worked flawlessly since they completed it. The price was exactly what they quoted. Our garage door has come off the racks and the cable and springs were off. Ken was an amazing technician who knew exactly what was wrong when he showed up. Ken immediately went to work with a smile even though our garage was 100 degrees. Ken had everything he needed on his truck and made sure it was set to the correct specs for opening and closing and even installed a larger spring on our door because we had insulation and he said it would help with the weight. I was looking to replace my garage door and opener as well as my entry door. I spoke with several companies before I chose Thompson. I was not impressed with the other companies I spoke with. The office personnel at the other companies were great but the actual sales rep was less then helpful. They were just not to informative about what was available and offered very little advice. I went to the Thompson showroom in Sparks and was greeted by Mitch Sperling. Mitch was amazing, he took me thru and showed me several different style of doors and openers and explained the pros and cons of each. He spent at least an hour with me. When he was done he gave me a rough estimate based off of an actual site review which he scheduled at a convenient time for me. He showed up on time took his measurements and again discussed my options with me . This took at least an hour plus and not once did he seam impatient or rushed. We had a great conversation and by the end of the appointment I was convinced I had the right company. The door and opener was fairly priced and we scheduled the install. Mitch stayed in touch to keep me informed of all details until the actual install date. The install... Man I can't say enough of how impressed I am with the installer Miguel. He showed up on time and by himself installed this heavy door. He estimated how long it would take to install and he was spot on. He was just the best guy!! he was friendly, presentable and just so informative and helpful. I have had a lot of work done on my house and he is one of the best people I have met. I am currently waiting on my new front door to be installed by them as well. I am sure that it will be as just as great of an experience as this has been. We had a garage door spring break on us on a Sunday. Another company came out, charged a service call and then quoted a four figure price to replace it. We said no thanks and we would shop around. My husband called Thompson this morning and was told there was a high probability they could fix it today for less than one third of we were quoted yesterday. My review is solely based on my experience in trying to return a call to get my appointment scheduled for a work order placed through my home warranty. I received a call on Friday to make an appointment. Went out of town and returned Wednesday and called back Wednesday at 5:15 to follow up and make the appointment. I am told at 5:15pm it is now the emergency line and to call back the next morning at 8am..... OK I call back Thursday and 4:20 with the number I was provided and the first gal that answered had a hard time finding me because another gal handles the home warranty calls, so she can't make the appointment for me and has me transferred. I get transferred to the next gal and am immediately told that she isn't the person that called me to set the appointment but will go ahead and offer me X date and X time. I take the first available but what an s - show to just get an appointment and who cares if you were the person that left me a message or not, I'm calling a company not an individual. So far not impressed and am worried with what to expect when the technician comes out to fix the garage.... read more

This company is the worst! They charge $128 for a service call to tell me I needed a part. Fine. But then that $128 does not get applied to the actual service. It was going to cost almost $400 to fix one part on my garage. I called someone else and it was $100 to come out and it applies to the $200 service. Don't use this company. They also tied to get me to use a "refurbished" part. For the same price as new. I repeat. Do not use this company. They are not honest. read more

Was referred there by a contractor and spoke with a young woman in person. She was to give us a two quotes on a front door with side lites and transom window...one fiberglass and one wood. She said she would email it to me. I followed up 5 days later and was told she was waiting on a quote from the manufacturer of the wood door. I called again a week or more later and was told she was still waiting but would follow up with them and let me know. That was two weeks ago and no email (checked my junk folder too) or phone call. I called a third time and spoke with a supervisor who assured me he would call me the following day. Surprise, surprise, that day has come and gone and no call back. Terrible service to say the very least. I get that every business is busy these days, but to be treated this way is unacceptable. We spent a lot here for our new front door. I was concerned how it would look and what the heck we were going to get for the money. IT WAS AMAZING!!! New amazing seals and a complete redone door jam and step plate, the door is gorgeous as well! If I had one wish it would be that it came painted but in light of the great product and service I got more than I hoped for and I am COMPLETELY happy with my purchase. Even the lock smith who replicated our new keys said what awesome work they do. This raises the value of my home and my internal value on it. I don't have a service experience to write about but I did run into one of their technicians at Home Depot. I was looking for those 90 degree metal channels for mounting and hanging the new opener. Of course they didn't have it but one of Thompson's employees overheard what I was looking for and offered me a section from his truck. We also chatted and he brought up a couple of things that I didn't think about so I was able to have everything I needed to hang the opener myself. I wanted to write this review because if this companies employees are this helpful to strangers then I'm sure they treat their customers great. Not only were these guys the fastest response of any company I called, for a technician to come out, but they actually confirmed how I could fix my issue myself. Again, I was able to fix my own issue, immediately, without even paying for anything. These guys rock. I had a spot window between 8 - 10 am. They showed up at 8:30 and went straight to work. I won a garage door inspection at a yelp event I attended, and it included a 40 point inspection on both doors. They repaired one of the sensors, programmed a remote for me, lubed all the wheels, made sure the hinge bolts were tight, and adjusted the tension on the chain. I knew the make and model of the door and they said they would not sell me a new spring without the old spring being brought in. When I tired to ask questions to get a better understanding and explain I wasn't able to bring the old one in they refused to help me. As I walked out, they rattled off prices for what the replacement would cost if I brought the old one in. How can you know the price of something you are telling me you can't help me with unless you see it? Unfortunately, the first time they came they claimed to have fixed it but it was completely uneven so when it was shut one side was open half a foot, it broke the same day. They sent someone else out many days later and they said they couldn't fix it with no explaination. We ended up just calling another company and they came out right away and fixed it within the hour and said everything was incorrectly tuned. It works perfectly fine now. read more
