Everyone, from the answering service, to the man who got right back to us, to Patrick - who came out within the hour to service our kitchen drain were courteous and professional and only charged a very reasonable flat rate which they quoted up front, with no additional service charges. Our drain was very clogged, and required extra time of examining from the basement, yet Patrick was careful to volunteer to check the washing machine, to make sure that the unclogging of the kitchen line did not back it up. Called The Drain Guy looking for service for a cinema i GM in Cambridge. After a few plumbers bailed on us earlier in the week (and one this morning) I was mostly expecting a standard brush-off reply, or a voicemail. Instead I got an answer, and a good one. My info was taken, and Matt called me himself within 5 minutes. Said he was finishing up a job in Somerville and would head over shortly. Probably 90 minutes later Matt pulled up, asked for me by name and we went off. Showed him the trouble areas, he went to work, and checked back in with me to discuss his process before actually beginning any work. Okay, this guy is so good I actually just signed up for a Yelp account to sing his praises. Crack of dawn Sunday. Toilet issue. Left message with his service. Took a while to get a call back, but when he called he explained he was already out on a job (!) and had been in a cell phone dead zone. Once Matt and I spoke on the phone he arrived within about 30 minutes and snaked my toilet with no problem. As other reviewers have said, he wears booties and takes great care in not leaving behind a trace of his visit. Matt is incredibly friendly and answered all my questions easily...including recommending what to use to remove discolored grout from my bathroom floor (a long-standing issue in my apartment). How much did he charge, you ask? For a Sunday morning emergency and "grout consult"? I wish I could list the cost here, because you would not believe it. Suffice to say it was a third or a quarter of what I expected to have paid Roto Rooter. And the credit card transaction (using Square on his phone) went without a hitch. Had a main pipe in the basement that was clogged. We tried to snake ourselves but the issue was further into the pipe and our snake couldn't reach it. I called Matt the next day and he was able to come down 1 hour after the call. He is friendly and professional. His approach to tackling the problem was very professional, systematic, and clean. The technician came out because our toilet was clogged (there was a quantity of woodchips that had been flushed down). Even though we tried to flush it repeatedly for a few days, right when the tech arrived it flushed for the first time. But it was still acting oddly so he snaked it, then removed it to make sure nothing was stuck inside. He replaced the toilet with a new wax ring. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of something I noticed when he left; his snake tool left a big scratch on the inside of the toilet bowl. I noticed the tool looked like it was all-metal. The ones I see at Home Depot have plastic on the end. So maybe they need a new tool. read more

Just moved into a new place when I noticed a leak around my toilet. Yuck. I know plumbers can really exploit people in our times of desperation. Called a few places on yelp and was either told I had to wait until January or that it would $300 just for a diagnosis. Luckily got a hold of Matt who was available almost immediately (it was the weekend) and could also work with my unpredictable schedule. Matt came over, was super nice, put on booties so he didn't get my floor dirty, cleaned up all the nastiness and protected my floors from toilet sketchiness. Fixed my toilet in about an hour. The main sewer line of our house had backed up and clogged Saturday night to Sunday morning and all efforts to snake the issue ourselves were to no avail. I called the usual 24 hour big name service company that rhymes with Toto Pooper a little before noon and then proceeded to wait for 7 hours for service after being given a four hour service window and dealing with a very unfriendly dispatch center that didn't seem to care that we had no access to water or the toilet all day. A neighbor friend when hearing about our predicament recommended Matt "The Drain Guy" and said that he was the best. I called Matt and got his call center and he returned my call within minutes. I told him about my issue and that i was also still waiting for service from the big name company. Matt told me he could definitely help me but that he was in the process of completing another service call and that if we didn't want to wait he could understand. . We decided to take whomever showed up first. The big name company finally showed after 7 hours, the estimate for the work was incredibly expensive but i figured that's what we get for trying to get service on a Sunday. I called Matt back to cancel my service call but also asked him if he could give me an estimate for the work that was just quoted. The Drain Guy quote was less than half of what was quoted by the big name company. I told Matt we would wait for him and he said that he had just finished his other call and be on his way. Within an hour Matt was at our door. As others have said Matt was incredibly friendly and professional, being careful moving furniture and other items that may be in the way of the work. He explained the issues he may encounter and what he was going to do. Quickly he was able to snake our sewer main and make sure that it was draining 100%. Matt cleaned up any and all dirt and debris caused from the work. Credit card payment was fast and easy (using square on his phone). Usually when or if you need to call a drain cleaning company, it's not good news. It always happens at night or weekends when you least expect it. I had a major clogged drain at my mother's house last night and wasn't sure who to call. Looked online and called a few companies. Didn't have much luck. I tried one last time and called The Drain Guy I saw on a google search. They called me back in less than 20 mins. They were honest about how busy they were and they said they would try get there if they could, but was very late about 9:00 pm, but promised they would get there first thing in the morning if I could wait, which I could. They came as they told me and got the drain freed of the clog. It ended up being several small tree roots. They cleaned up the area and I couldn't of been happier. As a contractor myself, I honestly have to say the Drain Guys came through for me. No pun intended, they knew their "shit". So yesterday, on the coldest day of the year, we had heat trouble. Being that it was a Sunday, and absolutely freezing out, we had a lot of trouble getting a contractor to come to help us with this. We called a bunch of places, and were told various things like, "Sorry, we can only help you if you have an account with us." Or, "Sorry, we only do commercial repair work!" Or, "Sorry, we can't get someone there today, the call volume/demand is extremely high!" Most of the places did not pick up at all. We actually got a live person on the phone on the first time we called The Drain Guy. The service was efficient and professional and at a reasonable and fair price. We got our heat working again on a Sunday evening on what was the coldest winter day in over a decade. Great service. We have called before, when we had a clogged drain, and got excellent service. We called yesterday at our wits end after calling a bunch of places, thinking that at most maybe we could get a lead on who could potentially fix the heating. Turns out, they do this work too!
