The drawers are all equal but the front on the uppermost drawer is lowered as are its sides.
    Micky M.

Like most people embarking on a DIY project, I researched drawers at several websites, blogs, Pinterest - you name it. There were equal numbers of success and horror stories and it came down to how much confidence you had in your own abilities. Well - that puts a burden on the company you choose to help guide you through the process, and TDD does that exceedingly well. They answered basic questions through mail and phone and I built enough confidence to order so I got on the phone with them to place the order, - I recommend this for first timers. They have a cabinet wizard which will auto calculate drawers from opening sizes or you can explicitly measure out your drawers. They received the order, reviewed it, and called back since there was some ambiguity. They left nothing to chance. Who does that today? The ship date they generated put me past my deadline so I requested them to ship earlier - they did. The drawers themselves were beautifully finished - I went with just above basic grade ply, heavy duty glides and a heavier bottom since my drawers measured 32" wide. Right there, several websites fell out of the running. I HIGHLY recommend getting them to install the drawer guides. Now to the challenges: There is no documentation except some BLUM glide videos on youtube which is okay but not really enough. The glides are heavy and greasy. Front to back, they tend to slide around so I stuck one screw in the middle and then used a level to align up/down/front/back positions and kept tapping in screws to firm it up. Ideally, a VIX bit would have helped but I didn't have one. I had a bottom drawer so I started with that and worked my way up. I slid the drawer into the slides, locked it in and then slid the whole thing into the cabinet to align the front where I wanted. I did this by actually marking the back of the glide and removed the drawer, giving me a mark on which to place the glide. The point is, the front of the glide is offset from the front of the cabinet/face frame - so that when it closes, it lines up exactly where you want it to. Just how much shouldn't be a guessing (measurement game). Place it exactly where you want it and use a pencil to mark it. I cut myself 2 identical pieces of scrap to support the glide I was installing above it, next. I placed these on the existing glide, then repeated the process by centering a screw in the guide being installed and then repeating the alignment steps. The whole thing cost $$ to ship from CA to TX but they arrived beautifully packed on a pallet and with not a scratch on them. Despite that, I think I paid less than any other site I shopped them with. The wife is happy, and I plan to order more..

Great quality product; undamaged in transit

Drawer depot built me 5 custom 36"x21" dovetail joined drawers to spec and shipped them to me (undamaged) inside a month. Will absolutely order from them again. The day after the order they called me and gave me options to expedite, too, with lumber they had in stock. Excellent product; on time delivery; excellent customer service.

Unfortunately, my most recent experience was deeply disappointing and has left me unpaid for the work I completed. David hired me to install flooring at a high-rise project. The job was already behind schedule when I arrived, and on top of that, the wrong flooring had been delivered, delaying the start by over a week. Despite these setbacks -- none of which were under my control -- I began work and was pressured by David to move quickly. I reminded him, as he knows from past jobs, that I focus on doing things correctly, not just quickly. Three days into the job, David informed me that painters were coming Monday. I couldn't work over the weekend due to building restrictions, so I waited to hear back from him about the next steps. After a week with no contact, I reached out -- only to be told that he had finished the job without me and that he felt I had "poor work ethic." This came as a shock and felt like I was being made the scapegoat for delays that were outside my control. When I asked to be paid for the work I had already done, David agreed on an amount and said he would mail me a check. A week passed, no check arrived. When I followed up again, he told me he'd pay in a "timely manner" -- and then threatened to involve the police if I contacted him again. To this day, I have not been paid for the labor I provided. This experience was disheartening and unprofessional. I'm sharing it in the hope that others in the trades -- or anyone hiring this company -- understand what kind of behavior they might be dealing with.

David came recommended to us through a friend who is an award winning decorator - she blessed us with David & his Better Life Construction business recommendation. We did not have formal "plans" - we had an awesome designer, Ben La-Haise w/Dixieline in Del Mar, put together our wishes (he did all the measuring and layout and worked with us to order custom cabinets, tile, sent us directly to the faucet & fixtures company, and ordered us the perfect medicine/mirror set up). David improved upon our design, found creative solutions to flush mount the mirror set-up, has the best glass contractor (our glass shower doors & walls are over 9 feet tall), and made sure that our triple closet door looked like it had always been there mounted flush with the floor and trimmed every area worked in perfectly. David and his crew also rolled all my carpet back in the master bedroom and got rid of all the squeaky spots in the 2nd story floor - wow! The finished product was so well put together, thought out, finished on time, within budget - no hidden expenses appearing - it was our easiest project ever. David & his crew were always on-time, notified us in advance of their schedule, working other jobs at the same time and keeping all of his customers happy. I almost don't want to share this information - I know he will just get more business and I have more projects haha David is a devoted family man, his employees & contractors are as respectful, responsible, and reliable as David. Thank you David for making my dream bathroom a reality.

I've managed the remodeling of four other houses over the years. I hired this company so that I would not have that headache. David was completely absent on this project. In fact, he took a vacation the first week of my project, leaving me to deal with the subs and I had to deal with them throughout the project. Throughout the project, I always had the impression that my garage job was not important to this company. The design was botched and the garage door opening had to be rebuilt to accommodate a standard rolling door. Quality review was non existent. First big rain and there was water leaking in under the mudsill. The other photo shows light coming in between the new & old structure.

I had heard horror stories from other people who had remodeled and had problems of various kinds with contractors, so I was a little squeamish about the whole thing. But Carnik was recommended to me and I felt immediately comfortable with Nick and Carly from the start. I have zero designing skills, but Nick and Carly had great suggestions for the design of the upgrades. It was a big project, involving quite a bit of demolition; all new interior doors and closet doors; all new dual-paned windows in white vinyl retrofits; all new flooring--tile, carpet, and laminate--throughout the entire house, a conversion of one huge bonus room into two bedrooms, with a new walk-in closet; all new electrical outlets and switches; substantially remodeled bathrooms, especially as to the light fixtures and a new tiled shower/bath, and a lot of painting and texturing throughout the house; and glazed and repainted security windows and security door for the ground level windows and slider. CRD was fair and reasonable as to pricing, and the high work ethic was evident from start to finish. Time-wise, there were no lulls in the project; CRD had workers and subs here virtually every day to complete the project per our time table established at the beginning. It also meant something to me that CRD's subs had nothing but the utmost respect for CRD and its principals. Nick kept constant contact with me throughout the entire work effort. I now have a model home! I simply cannot imagine being happier with my remodeled house and the contractor who transformed it into this beautiful home! Nick and Carly are very conscientious and energetic, good people. I have absolutely no misgivings about hiring them to upgrade my whole house.

I cannot stress enough how much of a mistake it was to choose San Diego Custom Cabinets for our kitchen cabinets on an Encinitas project. The workmanship is absolutely appalling (bad). The cabinets started showing signs of wear and tear within just a year. Some panels (dishwasher) corroded and started peeling. The gaps between panels were uneven and unsightly at time of build but especially over time became worse, and to top it all off, the cabinets have actually changed color over time, going from a dark brown (walnut) to a tiger orange. It's obvious all materials were of the cheapest and lowest quality, but beyond that the company's response to these issues was to push back and simply state the warranty period had expired. I should add, it was not only the faces of the cabinets that failed miserably, but the boxes were poorly constructed, including cheap/failing hardware (like the trash pull out which constantly fails (hardware becomes loose and needs to be manually tightened monthly). At this point, we've had no choice but to demolish the entire cabinetry system. We have incurred massive costs (since prices have dramatically changed) and our clients are displaced during this demo period. I'm beyond disappointed with this purchase and this company and would strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere. As a company and brand, we will not be working with SD Custom Cabinets in the future. We will not be endorsing them. And if actual or prospective clients ask for our vote of confidence or recommendation, we will point them to this review.
