This pub has an authentic "feel" with its decor and live traditional Irish music. I asked the waitress what to choose between the shepard's pie or the beef stew and she suggested the beef stew. I loved it. The meat was melt in your mouth tender; it was chock full of vegetables that were cooked perfectly; and the stew liquid was extremely flavorful. I'd highly recommend it. I'm not sure how authentic the rest of the food is, but it's Irish-American themed menu all looked delicious to me. I'll be back! read more

Not a bad first experience at Dublin Pub. We got the fried pickles for an app and they were some of the best I've had. Great selection of craft beers of various types. I got the reuben for dinner with the pub fries as a side. Generous portions with a lot of flavor. My sandwich got a little soggy but nothing too bad. Others at my table got the fish and chips and they were delicious. The service was great and will come back again! read more

What a fun spot on a beautiful end of summer evening! I love the atmosphere at this location. They have a large lower and upper outside patio. We were told to sit wherever, but it took our waitress awhile to finally get to us and give us menus/take drink orders. Our waitress had a hard time either hearing us correctly or remembering what we ordered. She got a drink order and food order wrong, but she was pretty busy so it wasn't a huge ordeal. The food was great, they have some excellent fries, which are more like potato wedges. The St.Patty Melt was delicious, but could have used a little more flavor. The B.L.T was also very good. We came here on a Wednesday evening. Saw the duck on top of the pub while driving by and we were suckered in.... but so happy the duck got us we sort of just meandered through the pub and wound up on the top deck that apparently just opened. Such a cool space- weather was great. People seemed to order food at the bar and told them where they were sitting and brought food out to them. We enjoyed the view and a few beers. We hosted a ten year college reunion here this past week and had a tremendous time. The whole staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our server Brandon was an absolute PRO. We had no less than 14 separate checks. And every single one was accurate and cashed out expeditiously. He handled all of our milling about with grace and professionalism. So coming out to the Oregon District on a beautiful Saturday night we decided to stop by the Pub. Because it was beautiful we ascended to the roof. First after sitting there for a bit we thought the service was slow so I went inside to get some beers. After looking at a menu that was on one of the tables we thought about getting some appetizers. Someone came out and was cleaning tables and I asked for the Half and Half Onion Straws. His rude response was I'll get your server turn then he left. Later he came back up to tell me there is no server up here. You have to go downstairs if you want food. I was astonished and figured if they don't want our business then we will leave. Really loved this place. The food is really good. Way better than average bar food. The patio is great and sometimes they have live entertainment. The only problem I had here was that there was a group of really obnoxious men sitting next to our table. They kept loading our waitress with alcohol, which she drank happily, and she kept forgetting about us and things we asked for. I'm a Brit and live locally so it is a real treat to be able to eat bangers and mash, cottage pie or fish and chips and wash it down with great beer or Irish whiskey. The ambience is very like an Irish pub, the staff attentive, the bar heavily stocked and good to sit at. The live events and music are a bonus. This is a real gem on the east end of Dayton's Oregon District. Lots of shops and other good restaurants nearby. read more

Pretty decent but let's not get too giddy about the place - it's been around for a little while now and I think it's slightly declined over the past few years (Thai Nine has also experienced this, so I'm not just picking on these guys). I used to stop by after work on occasion, or with the lady for some fish and chips and a pint. They used to have salads with actual greens, now it's a bowl of iceberg with some diced tomatoes. I've always been a little suspicious about the "perfect pint" - when I order a Guinness and get it one minute later - it's likely not perfect (almost two inches of head doesn't help). The food is ok, more upscale "Irish" bar food, the fried pickles were very salty and after a few minutes I just had to stop. The atmosphere is good, they have lots of choices re: Scotch, Whiskey, etc., and decent beers on tap. The highlight of our last visit was the live music (which should tell you something) - a guy belting out the Talking Heads, Billy Joel, and Joe Cocker - we actually got up to leave and sat back down for Blackbird by the Beatles (he even did the little bird parts). I probably eat/drink here about 3 times a year - any more than that is too often. read more

It's hoakey as all get out, but I like these bad interpretations of pubs from across the pond. They're fun sometimes for not being authentic.. kinda like people who think Disney World's EPCOT is a real cultural experience. We stopped by on a cold and rainy mid afternoon on Saturday and the place still had quite a few patrons, but were not busy by any means. It's pretty amazing how much patio space this place has. It'd be interesting to see this joint on a Friday evening in Summer. The menu mostly consisted of a lot of things that really are not very good for you.. like that extra cheesy, greasy, and meaty stuff. I can't remember which burger I chose. It had fried pickles, some salted pork, and fried onion straws on top of it. Pretty delicious.. even though they totally cooked my burger Well done when I requested medium. Oh well. The recommendation of this place are of all things, the cheese fries. The server said something about them winning some sort of Dayton's Best award, so when in Rome.. get the cheese fries. They really weren't too bad. Nothing refined taste buds would give a damn about, but for a good greasy-caution-to-the-wind type of hunger, then it was actually quite good. So, YES, I will recommend the cheese fries. Plus star for Strongbow on Draught. That made me SO very happy. The wait for the food was really the only dull spot of our visit. It took a little bit to get our food. I'm thankful I was meeting a friend and had plenty to catch up on, but if you're here and in some 'hangry' mood then... it might not be a good idea. The strange part is that the table that came in minutes after we did received their food before we did, and ordered pretty close to what we had, so that was a little mind bending, but again.. Oh Well. Dessert looked pretty run of the mill as to what fake pubs would serve. The cake sounded worth a try. The husband scarfed down the half burger from my leftovers when I got home, so perhaps I'll be back again to give the cake a try. read more

Great beer selection and relatively friendly staff, but i have never had a good meal here. I've eaten there about four times and have yet to be even halfway impressed. Each time I've had to send my food back (and NO I'm not picky.). Burgers come out blackened and crunchy, and chicken came out so tough I couldn't chew it. French fries are delicious and the atmosphere is good, but the food SUCKS. read more

Originally found the Dublin Pub due to previous great Yelp reviews but I definitely left very disappointed. The service was ridiculously horrible. We ordered bottomless fries as an appetizer which were delicious and the reason why I gave this review two stars. Our sever said it was unlimited French fries but once we ordered our second round of fries, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get our French fries. The second batch of fries came with our entré. People seem to like this place but I thought it was very "meh". I couldn't decide between the beef or regular (chicken) Boxty. The waiter said they were both delicious but the beef was probably the best thing on the menu...so I got the beef. I hope mine was prepared poorly because if that was the best thing on the menu, they are in trouble. It's basically a hash-brown loaf, with some pulled stewed beef on top with some veggies and cheese on top of that. The veggies mainly consisted of carrots and celery. I expected those guys to be a little soft but they were crunchy as hell and seemed to be thrown on as an afterthought when the rest was done baking. Raw carrots and especially celery are definitely not delicious on this. Yuck. read more

I've been to this place a number of times and I'm usually quite happy with the experience. That may have something to do with all the draft beers available, I don't know. Anyway, I usually order the cheese fries which are different in that they have a white, creamy cheese sauce smothering steak fries. It's a great appetizer. Next we usually get the boxty, either vege or chicken, both are very good. We've also tried the pretzel sandwich which is also very good. Other menu items are sometimes alittle spotty. Maybe it's our fault for going to The Dublin Pub for Mother's Day brunch but it was God-awful from start to finish. We had never been to TDP before, and my husband got an email about a Mother's Day brunch the night before Mother's Day. We needed a place to eat lunch before a family party so we decided to stop in for a bite. At $16.99 it seemed a fair price for a buffet, too bad it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. The buffet was set up directly at the entrance, on a stage (WTF?!) and no one greeted or looked at us as we walked in. My husband had to track down a waitress and ask what the seating situation was. All the employees seemed hungover and just completely out of it. No one asked if we wanted drinks and since my daughter was starving, I got her a plate ASAP. The email claimed that live music would start at 1pm but we got there at that time and there was zero music at all. Not cool! The buffet itself was the absolute worst buffet I've ever seen in my life. The little dirty and disgusting food bowls were nearly completely empty the entire time. The food was not served out of shallow chafing dishes, as is customary. The food was served out of small but deep rectangular metal pans, the ones you would store cold food in the fridge. Any moisture in the food or steam built up in the bottom of the pan and created nasty watery food. What kind of amateur put this buffet together? The buffet ended at 3pm but I heard the employees mention that the food they put in at 1pm was the last of it. No more would be brought out. The eggs were completely watery and gross, the fried potatoes were mushy and completely unseasoned. The veggies were frozen, microwaved, and set on the buffet covered in an inch of water and the biscuits were stale and hard as rocks. EW! Even my toddler, who LOVES bread, wouldn't go NEAR the biscuits... The turkey was bland and even the line-cook serving the prime rib said to me "we have turkey or over-cooked prime rib". Appetizing! The buffet line was finished off with a huge vat of bland potato salad and dry pasta salad that sat at room temperature 1 foot from the open door on an 85 degree day. The buffet line was constantly out of plates and silverware and even though the staff walked by many times, they never refilled them until customers complained repeatedly. My husband walked up to the bar to get silverware because our waiter disappeared and never returned to see if we needed anything. This place sucks. Hard. It was suuuuper #grim as a Mother's Day brunch, and we won't be back. read more

I'm going to apologize in advance for this review, because it's going to come down as a bit harsh toward O'Conners Pub, which Jules and I visited last weekend. But, earlier tonight, when Jules mentioned that she needed to pick up a bridesmaid's dress from a seamstress in the Oregon District, I found myself in the rare spot of being able to try out one of Dayton's mainstays and indulge my unfulfilled longing for some British/Irish-style fare. Simply put, Dublin Pub is what I look for when I want an Irish pub in the states. Is it totally authentic? No, nothing outside of the UK and Ireland really is. But as for recreating that in the States? It's exactly what I want--a great selection on tap, a dark, inviting atmosphere, and a menu that tries to do justice to British/Irish pub fare. I harped on O'Conners Pub not too long ago for their lack of any sort of Irish/British food on the menu. Not so at Dublin Pub. Featured prominently on the menu were a bevy of UK favorites: shepherd's pie, beef stew, bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, and more. Fantastic. Jules settled on the shepherd's pie, while I indulged in the beef stew. In both cases, the food was fantastic. Her shepherd's pie was delightfully browned on top with a well-seasoned meat and veggie filling. My stew was tender and toothsome, with a fantastic flavor. If I had one complaint, it's that the celery in the stew wasn't quite done enough--it was still a bit crunchy, and obviously hadn't been in the stewing liquid as long as the other vegetables, which were delightfully soft and beefy. Oh, and the rolls! Rarely do I gush about a restaurant's rolls, but these were phenomenal. Served piping hot, these rolls had whole cloves of roasted garlic inside them! Oh, man...so good! Swabbed through the savory beef gravy, I can think of few better accompaniments for dinner. Make sure you get yours, with whatever entree you choose. While I don't know when we'll make it to Dublin Pub again--I'm not a fan of big crowds, so we'll likely never spend St. Patrick's Day there--I know that for a great weeknight dinner, the Dublin Pub has some phenomenal British/Irish fare. They're one of those rare Dayton 'institutions' that really does live up to the hype. read more

We had a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner at The Dublin Pub in July. The entire staff did such an excellent job in preparing for our guests and making sure that the event was seamless! The staff appears to have a great teamwork mentality and we felt catered to. Zach was our point person and assured that our rehearsal dinner would be great. We had tried the food and knew it to be good but even in setting up the buffet for 50+ guests the food was fabulous. We had the Beef Boxty, Chicken O'Brien and the Salmon-our guests loved it! Everything was fresh and appropriately hot or cold (all the buffet items) Even though the drinks were flowing we were able to stay within budget and fully enjoy the evening! The weather was beautiful and we were able to enjoy not only the "church" but the upstairs patio. You will be well taken care of if you have your event here! Stopped in had the Ruck sandwich, which is a BBQ brisket with cheddar cheese & sauteed onions. The proportion was definitely out of whack. You get more greasy bun than the amount of meat on the bun. The meat was tender but way over dressed, drenched in BBQ sauce. The fries were good and there was an adequate amount, but I noticed that others who order the homemade chips got a full plate. For the money, it is not a good value, but tasty. Order again? No. The Dublin Pub is a typical irish pub. It does not have anything special about it. The place is allright, nice people, good selection of both APA and IPA beers and also wiskeys are good (but I'm definitely not an expert). Both the time I could see Irish bands live shows and I've kinda enjoy that. Finally, I'd like to try the food navies it seems tasteful. It's a pub, not a restaurant, don't expect it to be what it isn't. That being said, it is probably the best pub food in town. Really different stuff, and tasty, too.
