We loved our stay at The Dunes! We stayed in unit 107 with our two kids and were very comfortable. The rooms were a little odd in that the best room with the bigger bathroom and view had the smaller bed but my kids sure did love that they got it for the week. It's a beautiful condo. Everything worked great. We enjoyed sitting on the patio watching the beach and everyone getting stuck in the sand was pretty entertaining. If I had to give advice, bring sleeping masks. You have beautiful views but lots of light comes through. Bring a fan. It gets stuffy. And bring basic cooking supplies if you plan on cooking. There are plenty of cooking items but no salt, pepper, or basic staples. Not a big deal, just to be aware. We'd absolutely go back! You cannot beat the location for ease to and from town. The pier and jetty are right outside your door. The beach does get very crowded here but we expected that and adjusted for our needs. read more

Such a beautiful place. The scenery is just perfect. I will say that their bed is "out of service;" the springs feel and sound like it was purchased in 1980's. The bed felt like a hole when we laid on it. The gym, meeeeeh; no dumbbells. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful. read more

All it took was a phone call, and they offered their community room (free of charge). Not only did they make the space available, they cleaned before and after, and set up chairs and tables. Port Aransas is located on a barrier island SE of Corpus Christi. I have been coming down here since my earliest memories. It evolved as a recreational fishing town which still plays a huge role in the economy. Sleepy until 15 years ago when the outside world discovered it's charm and laid back, undeveloped atmosphere. From here down the coast of Padre Island things are starting to develope at a rapid pace. The character is changing yearly and no turning back. Right now I'm sitting on a balcony looking over an area that I camped with my parents, then my kids,then my grand kids! It's bitter sweet. The Dunes were built in 1978 as the first high rise in this area. I was apaled to see it but, accepted the " progress" I'm happy to say decades later there still are not too many buildings for miles. Over the last two years the Dunes have been hit by two hurricane. As a result,a complete gutting and remodel have taken place. So, any reviews prior to March 2021 are not representative. Each unit is individually owned and have been beautifully brought up to date. I hate to give away the secret but there are rentals available,it sits steps from the beach and it's a lovely place. So now I look out in air-conditioned comfort and think about a lifetime of experiences I've had on this beach ,in these waters and town. I fell grateful and fortunate. read more

My husband and I decided last minute to book a much needed family beach trip to Port Aransas for the July 4th weekend. It was out first in so many years due to hurricanes damaging the only place we have ever stayed, Sandcastle Condos. After searching many different places and reading countless reviews I came across the review for The Dunes written by Guy H. Reading it gave me hope. I was extremely happy to see rooms were still available for the holiday weekend and after looking at photos we booked #309. When we drove up we were excited to see just how close the beach was! The front desk staff greeted us with a smile, and were friendly and helpful. It was nice to see right away that the building and pool area were clean. We parked in the parking lot across the street, which made it easy for me us to grab our beach chairs as we walked to the beach. We stayed in condo #309. It has a beach view off the back balcony and a pool view from the front door. Our condo was clean, comfortable and had WiFi. We will definitely choose to stay here again! The local grocery store, restaurants and souvenir shops are only a short drive away. We look forward to making this our new go to condo when planning future family beach vacations. read more

The Dunes was a great beach stop. We took a family trip with our 6 year old daughter. The location was great - right on the beach. Rooms were clean (sinks are high if you have littles might want to bring a collapsible stool). The pool was excellent (although every time we went there were no clean towels, so I'd suggest to bring your own). Make sure to get your $12 beach parking pass from a gas station if you want to park on the beach. Our room was newly renovated with brand new appliances and modern beachy feel. The location was perfect because it's right on the beach and about a 5 minute drive to shops and restaurants. The staff wasn't overly friendly but helpful. The hotel was always clean and had plenty of carts to transport from cars to rooms. read more

We rented a 3 bedroom unit, #210, that had a nice view of the pool and beach. The furnishings in unit 210 looked to be from the late 70's. Our TV had a pea green hue to it. When we arrived the elevators were out. i had to use the stairs to get our luggage up. The elevator when operational had warning signs posted about no jumping in the elevator, and that if you jumped you'd be kicked out. They need to invest in newer elevators that don't lurch when you step on to them. The Dunes is conveniently located in town within walking distance of many restaurants. As others have commented, the condo is located in a heavily traveled area near the beach between two beach access roads. Trucks and cars engines can be heard after midnight . On weekends, security is provided by a local Constable. Most of the other guest seemed to be on family vacations too. Walking distance from the beach was the shortest from any of my previous stays at other condos and beach houses in Port A. This was a huge plus given that we had several small kids under 5 in our group. Seaweed was an issue. there was massive piles of seaweed that carpeted the beach near and in the water ranging from one to two feet thick. I understand that this was a recent beach wide problem, but i don't ever recall the seaweed being as bad in past visits at other Port A access points. We liked that maids came to change the towels and help with fresh sheets for one of the kids beds. I wanted to like the Dunes more, but would choose another place to stay in the future when visiting Port A. read more

The Dunes condos are definitely as close to "on the beach" as one is probably going to get on Port Aransas, but don't let the high nightly rate delude you into thinking the accommodations are anything other than just this side of desperate. The front desk woman told us our condo was one of the "really nice" ones. Two bedroom (and two bath), Unit 104 has updated flooring and kitchen and living areas (with decent furniture), but walking into the bedrooms was a bad hotel dream come true. Clean, but old mattresses, cheap pillows, sheets and bed coverings. The towels were white and clean, but rough and thin. The property has a pool and hot-tub. The pool has a covered area with tables and padded lawn chairs and plenty of chaise loungers. It's not a pretty area (no ocean view, waterfall, pretty plantings, etc.), but it's functional and clean. The grounds are well tended, owners manage the front desk, and it's generally serene and quiet. Luxurious it isn't. If an ocean view is important, request a room on at least the third floor. read more

We reserved 5 rooms at The Dunes for my uncle's 50th Birthday, each room sleeps 6 people & apparently that's too many Mexicans for the property. We planned to hang out at the pool for the birthday celebration, but the white "owners" weren't having it. From the get go, there was constant harassment, we keep reassuring them we were paying guest of the property, & had wristbands for the property, but that wasn't good enough for them. The Caucasian female that lives on the 8th floor specifically told us, "YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!" Mind you, we paid a couple of thousand dollars for our reservation, times 5 different rooms, in all around $10K for a couple days at the beach, but because of the color of our skin, we didn't belong there. The "VP" of the property, (Caucasian male) & the Caucasian woman on the 8th floor, harassed us for our room number, when we denied to give this information out (to a stranger) for our safety, they called the cops. The cops came & went, and eventually since they kept harassing us, the cops said we had to get out of the pool area. As law abiding Hispanic citizens & paying tenants, we went up to our rooms, but we won't be renting here again, and don't recommend anyone of color rent here either. #BrownLivesMatter #50BirthdayRuined read more

I've grown up going to Port Aransas annually for most of my older childhood and adult life, and I've stayed at handful of places. We just spent the long 4th of July holiday weekend there with another family (4 adults and 3 kids total) in unit 410, a 3-bedroom condo. We were thrilled with the condo, the facilities, the helpful and friendly staff, the amenties (great pool, clean loungers, gas grill available, easy boardwalk). The condo is literally RIGHT ON THE BEACH. It's next to the county state park, the pier, and a beach access road (Lantana St). But the traffic is very well contained by a parking barrier, leaving a HUGE amount of sand and shore to set up 'camp' and enjoy the water. Despite being in town and near a busier area than where we have more recently stayed, the condo was actually quiet and peaceful. The three bedroom unit was HUGE with three balconies (all ocean-view), three large bedrooms (2 kings, 1 with 2 twins) and 2 bathrooms. It was very well kept, clean and had fun, 'beachy' furnishings that didn't make you afraid to be casual and relaxed. The kitchen wasn't as well-stocked as we hoped, but we made do (you might bring extra storage containers, cooking utensils like good knives and tongs, and bakeware, if you need it). It did have plenty of storage areas, cabinets, pantry and hallway closet for putting all your things up and out of the way. The living area was also huge, and left lots of room for everyone to have space without being on top of each other. The housekeeping staff was exceptionally reponsive, and we were able to get clean towels, kitchen towels, trash bags, paper goods, etc. very easily. Overall, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, the elevators seemed to work/arrive quickly and smoothly, and we absolutely loved being so close to the water AND the town of Port A for quick trips to the stores or out to eat. This is an outstanding family-friendly, beach-accessible older condo that I highly recommend for people wanting a fun, relaxed environment to spend some time in Port A. read more

I stayed at the Dunes this past weekend for a friend's bachelor party - unit 405. The condo was intended to sleep six (queen bed, two twins, and a full size pull-out couch), though we managed to pack in 10+ people for two nights. Décor was very outdated and traditional (not a big knock in my book - I was there for the beach which was absurdly close, maybe a 2 minute walk away). The condo had a large amount of open space, sizable balcony, and a fridge amply capable of keeping our copious amount of beer cold. A maid took care of fresh towels each morning (big plus when you are sharing towels because your group is so massive), and the condo has a nice pool/hot tub area for relaxing in some chlorinated fresh water post-beach day. Be warned - the elevators here suck. Other than that, I would definitely recommend the Dunes for your rowdy beach weekends. read more

My daughter, her friend, friends mom and myself stayed a couple of weeks ago. The other mom and her family make annual trips to Port A. She and I were very impressed with the location, view and our accommodations. I booked the two bedroom/two bath condos. We had a great view, the rooms were clean (and I'm OCD when it comes to clean) and the staff was very friendly. In fact, I left something behind and called to ask about having it returned. I received the item within the week (it was a heavy item) and there was no charge for having it returned! I don't know about the elevator problems in the past but we had no problems at all. The only 'complaint' and it's not big, are the pool hours. Being in the summer on vacation and on a Saturday night, the pool closed at 10 p.m. The girls were bummed since we wouldn't allow them to swim in the ocean that time of night! Honestly I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else - we are spoiled! read more

June 1-12, 2017 I stayed at The Dunes the first couple of weeks of June '17. #708. PROS: The condo was fabulous with a fabulous view of the beach. I never heard any noise through the walls or ceiling of adjoining neighbors. Housekeeping was great. They came everyday and replenished towels, tp, paper towels and took out the trash. "Flip", the desk clerk, was so kind and helpful. The condos are literally and step away from the beach. CONS: The pool noise is ridiculous and echos up into the condos. It's supposed to close at 11 p.m., but several nights it was open later, and I had to call. The pool should close at 9 or 10. If I was an owner and had to get up for work....I would not be happy. Beds were hard and uncomfortable as heck. The bedroom sits in the front of the condo, so lots of noise from people laughing and talking on the walkway...even at 3 a.m. There was a male desk clerk that was on his personal laptop 24-7, but he had no knowledge of the island....never knew anything. Maybe he should utilize that time to gain some knowledge. Overall, it was a great stay, and we fell in love with Port Aransas. read more

Recently had a two night stay at The Dunes. Overall a very enjoyable place to be. We stayed in unit 210, three bedroom, two bath. It had overall 4 twin beds, a full size pullout bed and a king size bed. We were able to accommodate 10 people comfortably. There were 3 tv's (Living room, master and guest room)2 flat panel and 1 flat screen Free WiFi available for the room itself (Router Located in kitchen with info) Furniture was outdated but room came fully stocked with appliances and dishware. Kitchen was on the small side but overall useful. Easy access from any room to patio areas. Guest services did take out trash and replaced some towels (on a rack that held 3 large towels they replaced just 1 in each bathroom. Pool and Hot Tub was a nice amenity, front desk women is very strict on age limit of children at pool... beware. (She would not let two girls 14/15 swim alone, during the day, with other adults around and their children) I would highly recommend any large group wishing to have a nice place to stay look into The Dunes. So we booked a 1 bedroom last minute on labor day weekend. Was glad to get something on a holiday weekend. The unit we were in was on the 4th floor. There was brown carpeting throughout except for kitchen and bathroom which was surprising for a beach condo. I mean, all that sand... Aside from that the decor was dated but overall had a clean and bright feeling. Bathroom could really use an update though. The place was spacious and kitchen was fairly well equipped. Bed was pretty comfortable and 2 flat screen tvs had cable and wifi was available. I'd give it 3 stars but the location is great so bumped it up to 4. Just a few short steps to the beach makes it super easy to pop back to the room throughout the day which is helpful when youhave a 1 yr old and a 6 yr old. The pier isright there and also port entrance gives quite a show of large ships coming and going. read more

This was our 2nd stay. First was much better. This time we rented a 3 br since we went with family. 3 couples and 2children. I was surprised to find the condo almost completely carpeted. Both the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms had 2twin beds. Seriously? So 2sets of couples had to sleep separately like couples from the 1950's. even worse, one of the "bedrooms" is an area closed off by sliding doors. And, by the way, to get to the master bedroom, you have to walk through this make-shift "bedroom"! So the couples took up the 3 bedrooms. We were then planning to put our 2kids on the pull-out sofa bed. Well, this bed was in such TERRIBLE shape, with springs coming up through the thin mattress, lumps everywhere. My child yelped when a spring went into his back! I didn't't have the heart to make him sleep there, so our kids had to sleep with us in the one real. bed in this entire 3br condo- 4 of us, 2adults, a 12 yr old and a 7 yr old in a king size bed. Needlless to say, we didn't get much sleep. The kitchen hardly was stocked in terms of things to cook with. 2-3 pans/pots. It was just not stocked as it should be. Compared to other condos we've stayed in (we go every year). When we asked about the strange bedroom layout, we were told all the 3bedrooms have this strange layout. We were also supposed to get light cleaning after the 3rd day. Never happened. On 3 of our 4 nights, we were wakened by loud people yelling in the parking lot. This place has really gone down in the last 2 yrs since we've been. On the positive side, the beach is super close. But if you plan to spend time hanging out with your family in your condo when not at the beach, this is a disappointment. The family we brought already told us they won't come back. If it matters we were in 201. When I told the front desk about the issues, she just said, well next time ask do so-and-so room. She was very nice, but this isn't helpful considering we aren't coming back. read more

We stayed in room 702. The toilet wouldn't shut off, the shower curtains were ripped on both sides so water leaked out. Bedding was from the 80s...gross. Carpet was old, dingy, and dirty. The whole feel of the room was from the 80s. From the wicker chair decor to lamps, even the ceiling fan had a chain linked electrical cord which extended from the ceiling down the wall to a plug. We couldn't adjust the fan speed bc the string were broken off. Our tv volume would shut off in our room after the tv was on for so long. The tv volume in the living room would go extremely high and low on its own. The housekeeping didn't clean our room once if our 3 night stay, but she would leave towels. I asked if she could come back since she was coming at 8-9am, n she declined. The fridge/freezer smelled awful! The room didn't have an ice bucket, so when I called front desk to request one, they said they didn't have any available but that they had a jug I could use, and I had to go to the front desk to get it :/ Once I got there, I asked if she could point me in the direction of the ice machine. She said I had to pay $1 for an ice bag. (She could have mentioned that part over the phone before I went.) I told her I didn't have cash but I had a card, she said they only took cash. I asked if I could charge it to the room, she said no. When I got back to the room my sister read the contract n it clearly stated ice was free as long as you don't use it to fill ur ice chest. I was irritated so I didn't go back down the 7 floors to get the ice. Our fridge had refill ice trays, but no ice machine. Since our freezer/fridge smelled, I didn't trust using the trays. The pool towels were super old, there was no fluff, they looked like rags you wash ur car with. Luckily the room towels were better, but they aren't allowed at the pool or beach. The room furniture was setup weird. The curtain closed behind the tv, but blocked the back sliding door, so if u were outside, u would have to walk behind the tv to get inside. The 3rd bedroom was separated by a sliding wood door which you could hear right thru to the living room. I wasn't at all impressed with my visit here, and I would not recommend anyone stay here. The best part was the location to the beach and view from the back patio; hanging out in the room wasn't an option. read more
