After signing up, I discovered that the showroom and dark room were accessible to all membership tiers, eliminating the exclusivity that justified the higher price. Additionally: The sauna has been out of service since my enrollment. The frost room has not been functioning properly or reaching effective temperatures. I have not used this membership. When I attempted to resolve this directly with management, including speaking with Keanu Latinette, the interaction was disappointing. Instead of maintaining a calm and professional tone, the conversation became unnecessarily confrontational. I was simply requesting a reasonable downgrade consistent with the services actually being provided. Rather than working toward a fair resolution, the gym continues pursuing substantial charges. If you are considering the Premier tier, verify amenity availability and exclusivity in writing before signing. Transparency and professionalism matter.

As an attorney, I recently represented a client in a dispute with The Gym El Cajon…read more My client repeatedly attempted to obtain answers regarding her membership charges and benefits but was unable to get a clear explanation or resolution. It was only after legal counsel became involved that the matter was finally addressed. What is most concerning is that, after questioning charges and seeking clarification, my client was ultimately prohibited from returning to the gym despite no allegations of misconduct, rule violations, safety concerns, or disruptive behavior. Consumers should be aware that, in this instance, a paying member was left in the dark regarding her concerns and was only able to obtain a resolution after retaining legal counsel. Based on this experience, I would strongly encourage prospective members to carefully review their contracts before signing and carefully consider whether this is a business they wish to support.

Each class is 45 minutes, typically divided into 3-4 stations, so there's always something different. The trainers here are incredible--they motivate and push you to reach your potential. They're also great at modifying exercises if you're injured, sore, or need an easier alternative. I recommend arriving about 5 minutes early to stretch and get set up. One of the best things about a membership is that you can visit all the other NXPT locations. While I haven't been to them yet, I like knowing they offer classes like spin and yoga. You sign up for any class through the NXPT app. The community is welcoming to everyone, regardless of fitness level. You'll feel right at home whether you're new to working out or an experienced athlete. They also offer fantastic deals, like 10 days for $10 (if you're new that's the best deal to start), and couple packages. As of September 2024, the Santee location has classes at 4:30 AM, 5:30 AM, 7 AM, 8 AM, 9 AM, 3 PM, 4:30 PM, and 5:30 PM. Fridays don't have the 5:30 PM class, and on Saturdays, there are two classes: 7 AM and 8 AM. Pro tip: The wifi password is 'khaleesi' (no quotes). If you're looking for a friendly, challenging fitness community, I highly recommend NXPT!

However, I ultimately canceled my membership due to the gym's perceived affiliation with specific ideologies that I found to be at odds with my personal values. ( white supremacy Clantee ) Notably, following Charlie Kirk's passing, several members and coaches expressed sadness at being unable to attend or the funeral, citing scheduling conflicts. This further solidified my decision to end my membership, as I did not wish to support an organization whose values diverged from my own and did not align with the diverse and inclusive environment I sought, particularly given the substantial monthly fee of $200

Let me be honest--I get bored easily when it comes to exercising. Dealing with my weight has been a…read morelong-running battle, but one thing I can say is that I keep showing up! I love to eat, and honestly, I don't see that changing anytime soon. So instead of thinking about fitness as some temporary "weight-loss journey," I've started looking at it differently: I'm prioritizing my strength, endurance, and overall ability to take care of my body. And that mindset is exactly why I LOVE the YMCA! One of my favorite things about the YMCA is that I can visit different locations depending on where I am before or after work. That keeps my workouts from feeling repetitive. Walking into a different YMCA almost feels like going to a brand-new gym, and sometimes that little change of scenery is exactly what I need to stay motivated. I love the value you get for the price, and for the most part, the staff and service have been pleasant and welcoming. I've been to one location where I didn't feel quite as welcomed, but honestly, that's the beauty of having choices--you can find another location that works better for you. I also love the atmosphere. There are people of all ages working toward their own health and fitness goals, and there's something motivating about being surrounded by a community of people who are simply trying to become stronger and healthier. No matter your age, you're welcome here. The Cameron Family YMCA in Santee is also a great option for families, especially with the aquatic facilities. There's something for everyone, whether you're swimming, doing cardio, taking a class, or hitting the weights. And speaking of weights... I'm a weight-head! You'll probably find me on the leg press or somewhere doing strength training most of the time. Whether I'm working out with someone I know or getting my workout in by myself, I always leave feeling like I did something good for ME. That's what I appreciate most about the YMCA. It doesn't have to feel like, "Oh gosh...not another gym day!" Sometimes it can actually feel like treating yourself. If you're in the San Diego area and looking for a gym that offers variety, community, different locations, family-friendly options, and a good value for your money, check out a YMCA location near you. You can thank me later!

Their enthusiasm, patience, and dedication really shine through, and it has made such a positive difference in our children's confidence and progress in the water. However, it seemed I was on a plateau when I learned about Kari's GLP-1 Strong program. While prescribed by my PCP, I had always felt there wasn't much structure other than take this every week and watch the pounds melt away. While this is all good, I wanted a plan to progress more quickly and to utilize once off the medication. I cannot say enough good things about this 12-week program and Kari's knowledge on fitness and nutrition. Kari customizes her plans for each individual and focuses on accountability, consistency, and behaviors to focus on. I am an additional 12 pounds down and have gained the strength and confidence to finish my journey, including after stopping the jab. I will most likely sign up again during this transition.

Spoiler alert: this wasn't just a wedding prep plan, it turned into a total lifestyle shift. The first year wasn't perfect (life happens...hello, wine nights and takeout!), but Kari never judged or gave up on me. Instead, she helped me reset, get real about my goals, and build habits that actually worked. By my wedding in June 2024, I was down 40 lbs and 10% body fat and I felt strong, confident, and truly proud of how I looked and felt walking down the aisle. Since then, we've shifted to strength, mindset, and maintenance and let me tell you, that's been just as empowering. I've learned how to stay consistent, lift heavier, eat more without guilt, and care about so much more than just the scale. Working with Kari isn't just about macros and workouts (though those are dialed in); it's about learning how to show up for yourself even when life gets messy. I cannot recommend her enough if you're ready for change that actually lasts.

I've seen real gains in strength and mobility, and classes feel accessible for all ages and experience levels. Highly recommend either location. I've heard great things about almost every instructor, but these are the ones I've taken most and would recommend 10x over: Tracy F. - Warm, funny, and welcoming. I've taken 150+ of her classes and they're always fun, varied, and challenging. She creates a supportive environment, encourages growth, and keeps things fresh each week. Her TRX class is one of my all-time favorites. Anel - My first-ever Pilates instructor and a big reason I stuck with it. She teaches a more classical style and clearly explains form and function, which built my confidence early on. Consistent warmups, always-changing flows, and uplifting energy that carries you through class. Jenni G. - A newer instructor to me and now a weekly favorite. She's super attentive (always remembers my lower back issue), offers great modifications, and gives cues that just click. Her flow and TRX classes are fun, challenging, and set to great music. A great pick for beginners or anyone leveling up. Stacy C. - Somehow both challenging and calming. She has a peaceful, encouraging presence and checks in with everyone during class with gentle corrections and praise. I love how she weaves in anatomy and form education--her classes fill up for a reason. One thing I will say is I've noticed there is often not front desk staff at this studio. Instructors seems to be able to help with any logistical stuff like scheduling a class or buying merchandise, but if you have questions about your membership, payment cycles, referrals/discounts or anything like that--you may be better off calling at a different time of day or just emailing the studio.
