Loved my experience and would 100% come back again. I came in without and appointment on June 19, 2022 to get a Route 66 tattoo. I was traveling with 40 women on motorcycles for the "Chix on 66" event which began on June 12th in Chicago, Illinois and went all the way to Santa Monica, California. I wanted to get a tattoo somewhere along the way. Santa Fe was sandwiched between two of the shortest days on the trip so I thought this would be the perfect place to get my tattoo. And it was! I had actually spoken with another studio in the area weeks earlier but those plans never panned out as their communication was severely lacking. If you can't bother to get back to me in the weeks leading up to the appointment, I'm not exactly comfortable with the idea of you poking me with a needle and permanently marking my body. Then when I got there they weren't even in the studio at the time we'd agreed upon. Bye. So I left that place and found The Dungeon. Like I said I walked in without an appointment and upon arriving I spoke with the owner who said Joaquin could take care of me when he finished with the customer he was with. I agreed, walked back to my hotel room at the El Rey Court, and came back about an hour later. I found Joaquin to be approachable. He asked me questions about what I wanted (I knew I wanted the road sign for sure and something motorcycle related - maybe handlebars? but I wasn't sure, so I was open to suggestions), what my expectations were (I understand the care involved and that tattoos don't look like photographs), what kind of motorcycle I ride, and then he went to work designing my custom tattoo. He came up with a silhouette of a touring bike that was similar to mine but with some differences. I said that's close but mine has a windshield not a faring and-- then I pulled my phone out and showed him a pic of my motorcycle. He said "send that to me" so I did and he put it into his design program on his tablet and worked up what you see in the pics. It's done in shades of purple watercolor and I am absolutely in love with it. I get compliments on it ALL THE TIME. The coolest thing about it is that it's MY bike!! Even my husband who isn't a fan of tattoos thinks it's cool!! Haha! Joaquin gave me excellent advice on how to care for it especially since I still had 6 days to go on the road before I reached the end of Route 66 at the Santa Monica Pier in California. This was not my first tattoo, it was actually my 4th but I got the first three more than 20 years ago and ideas and standards of care have changed since then. And I knew that riding a motorcycle through the Mojave Desert in the end of June with a fresh tattoo could be tricky. But he made sure I knew what to do and what not to do. I followed his advice and it healed beautifully and without incident. Of all the souvenirs I came home with from that trip, this tattoo is my absolute favorite. I will be forever grateful, Joaquin. After looking everywhere for a reputable place to pierce our 1 year old daughter's ears here in Texas and not finding anywhere that would do it under the age of 5, we decided to come here while on vacation. I do not recommend getting piercings by Joaquin. He pierced my daughter's brow and it tore out after couple months. In addition, his after care advise was not good so it wasn't healing. We went to Ikigai instead where Phil re-pierced and said he's been "cleaning up Joaquin's work for years" ...Joaquin is cheap at $50 however, you'll end up more than doubling that to get it done right. read more

We tried to come here twice...the first time was around 8pm (and we called before and hey said they were open until 10) and we arrived to everyone getting in their cars because apparently they were closed They told us to come back at 10am the next morning...so there we were, 10am the next morning. We waited for 15 minutes until the guy in back asked us who we were waiting for. We said we were interested in a few tats and piercings and he said we couldn't be helped until 1pm. After getting some good work done here, we allowed the artist to test some new settings on a gun for small hand tattoos that became infected, and most of the ink came out despite being given proper care. We were assured they'd be fixed for no charge, but the artist kept dodging our attempts to schedule to get them fixed. I'm very disappointed, but we won't be going back here again. read more

Been going for years and they do a wonderful job. They also fixed a couple tattoo's I have from previous places. And I have gotten one form almost every tattoo artist they have or had there and all of them are WONDERFUL and trust them 110%. The last couple tattoo's and piercings my husband and I have gotten have been from Marshall and they are wonderful even though one of mine still has a lot more work that's has to done to it, it looks wonderful and trust his work and all of them. No regrets I will go there for more and will not go or trust and other place. read more

my friend and i walked in earlier today to get some smaller souvenir tattoos for our trip to santa fe. my experience was a little rocky, having to clarify what i wanted with the artist a couple times. my friend however was basically told that she wouldn't be able to get what she wanted done, a dainty linework deerskull. we showed the artist a georgia o'keeffe painting to work off of, and he started showing us examples of clip art, trying to steer her in a different direction. we went to a different shop later that day and the other artist was able to easily and beautifully give her and me the tattoos we wanted. the approach next time should be "i can't do that for you" rather than "it can't be done", because obviously it could be done by an artist with a finer hand. if you want something simple, this might be the place, but i found the artists pushy and unsympathetic to our ideas. read more

Yes, the shop could use a little more attention as far as having someone out front to greet you when you come in. I will admit I myself left once before because i got tired of waiting for someone to come out to help me. Glad I gave it another chance! I've not had a tattoo done here so I can't comment on that aspect of The Dungeon. That being said in all fairness If you call Marshall and make an appointment he will be there waiting with a smile, even on his day off. I know this because I have seen him three times over the past year. All three times with happy results. :D The last time I saw him I was literally on my way out of town. After a last minute morning phone call he met me at the shop and helped me out so I could take care of a re-piercing (long story I don't wanna get into it here) before I began traveling again. It's healing beautifully and when spending time in Santa Fe I would definitely call him again. Not to mention he is just a consistently nice person who will put you at ease which is kinda important when you are getting needles stuck through your flesh (especially when you are a ball of frenetic energy due to travel stress). Got diath piercings for both my son and myself. Was a good experience. Joaquin put me at ease since I was nervous. His sense of humor really lightened the mood for me. Overall it was quick. Kenn is the best artist who takes time to get your tattoo exactly the way you want it. My fiancé and I drove cross country and had been planning on getting tattoos. We drove to Santa Fe and came here with luck of having someone cancel the time we dropped by. Kenn took great care with the design my fiancé had drawn for us both and made it look amazing. We both have the same design but he changed it a bit for each of it so we are not with "twin" tattoos. The shop is comfortable and what you would expect. Clean bathroom is important and they have that covered. Gloves, sterile equipment and tons of pride make it great. We live in Scottsdale but will be going back to see Kenn for more work. I've been to this shop a couple times and I needed to change out a circular barbell in my septum because the beads kept coming off and I couldn't get them back on. I had only recently gotten that piercing and I didn't want to have wasted the $80 or so that I spent on it at another shop. I looked up what time they said they would be open on their website, which was 7 PM. I live about 45 miles north of Santa Fe and I could only go after work in the evening. I got there are 6:30 and two employees were sitting in the lobby smoking a joint. I wish I was kidding. They then told me that they were closed and turned me away. As someone who hopes to be a professional body piercer in the future, this was really frustrating. It was very unprofessional of them, especially since weed is still illegal recreationally in NM. Some of my friends have gone here for piercings and they almost always end up getting infected, rejected, or they just don't heal right. I would not trust this shop. I don't trust the employees. I would only go to Evolution in Albuquerque, to be honest. read more

Wanted to do a little 'tourist tat' to commemorate our trip. This place was recommended. (We are a 69 year old and a 48 year old women). We walk in, and an employee was helping someone sign a piercing approval for their teenage daughter, and another woman was talking design with an employee at the counter. So, not wanting to interrupt, we stand and look through the books done by the employees. After that, we sat down on the couch. NOT ONE employee EVER looked at us or spoke to us. I am disappointed honestly. I went in a few days ago to get my belly button pierced, only to be informed that the guy who does the piercings was out of town, despite the fact that apparently walk in are welcome. Ok, fair enough, I came back a few days later, when he was supposed to be back, to try again. Again, he wasn't around, and the woman I talked to didn't know when he would be back. My daughter went to get her first tattoo today after making an appointment last week. She had discussed the tat she wanted with the artist Jean-Paul Marquez. When we got there today he had double booked her and told her that the tat she wanted was too big and she had to pick another one. He grabbed a clip art and told her to do that one. She came and got me from another room because she wanted help picking a different one or finding out why she could not do the tat that she wanted and they had agreed upon. We found out he had double booked her appointment so apparently, he just wanted to do a smaller tat that he picked instead of allowing us five minutes to find her a different tat they could agree on. He abruptly said he was not comfortable giving her a tattoo on her hip with me there and that he would not do the tattoo or help find another one since he refused to do the first one. I asked him why and he said "because you are a pain in the ass and I"m not doing a tattoo on her find another artist". This was loud and in front of a full lobby of men. He was very rude and did not consider what she wanted as the customer at all. He simply decided on a different tat for her and when we said no his ego couldn't handle it or being questioned. For one I am not having my daughter bullied into accepting a tat she did not choose just to fit the guys time frame. As her mother, I most certainly will be in the room when you are putting the tattoo on her hip as she asked me to be there because the guy made her uncomfortable. No wonder he made her uncomfortable. He is a real piece of work. We will not be going back and she will find an artist that respects her choices. read more
