Most locals come here for drinks and catching up with friends. The food is decent but really standard menu bar fare. Definitely a place to stop in and have a few beer. This is one of the only restaurants near the cabin we have in Gouldsboro. The waitress was nice, the food was decent (tavern burger, buffalo/Jack Daniels wings, fries, kids pizza) but the service was sloooowwwwww. It wasn't super packed but we weren't the only family in the joint. I don't know if it was just short staffed or a slower cook or what. The waitress suggested I mix the Jack Daniels sauce with mild buffalo and it was delicious! Not a huge let down or anything, just veerrryyy slow. So plan accordingly --especially if you have kids. The service was pretty good. The woman was very friendly. She kept our glasses full which is a big plus in her favor. But I think she was probably overwhelmed. I think the woman we had was the only server. And they do get a decent dinner crowd. The French onion soup was really tasty but it needed more cheese. The sweet potato fries that came with the panini special were disgusting! I don't know if they weren't cooked or what but I spit them out of my mouth. The rest of the panini was ok. I liked the bread. A decent panini starts with the bread. Another table had clams and they looked really good. If there was a chance of my coming back I might have to try them but I don't think I'll come this way again. This is definitely a place for locals. Who else's coming by? It's off the beaten path. I only found it thanks to yelp. Yeah... Thanks yelp. My daughters chicken in a basket was a huge portion which was good cause she was hungry. But she said the chicken just tasted fried, no flavor in the batter. And wow what a huge portion of fries. My husbands burger had a crap burger to bun ratio. Way too much bun and it was just so so. Another successful satisfying trip to the Dutchman. Jess is a terrific waitress. I had the swordfish and if I had a blindfold on I would have guessed I was eating steak. The place is a laid back comfortable bar. We find the food to be much better then your typical bat food with a better selection then just burgers and wings although they are exceptional as well. If you are in the Gouldsboro Pa area check it out. It is a hangout for the locals but you will be welcome. read more

Me and my daughters came here after trucking and the cigarettes machine doesn't even give change. Ya know I gotta start my daughters young with learning real respect and when mommy didn't get her change back I told my daughters what they needed to hear. I simply told them Peggy and Jessie mommy is being disrespected and they listened to me and started crying. They felt my pain, my beer was also disgusting and not strong enough for my taste. This was the only restaurant near the cabin we stayed in while on vacation, and our Air B&B host recommended it. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, as the inside was very clearly a small town bar mostly frequented by locals. No one made us feel out of place though, and our server, Jessica was friendly and knew all of the regular customers. I had a burger and fried pickles-exceeded my expectations, especially the pickles. My husband ordered a burger with some kind of BBQ sauce that really drowning his burger, but over all for an inexpensive, local drop in I would recommend. read more

We stopped here on a whim since we had been in the car for a few hours and my husband doesn't like it when his wife gets hangry. Nice little hole in the wall type place. Waitress was friendly, place looked clean. Chicken club sandwich and fries were surprisingly good! My wife and I were in the Poconos for a long weekend getaway from Connecticut. We went to 2 bars in the Goldsboro area and weren't impressed with either. This was the first bar we went to in the area which we basically slammed our drinks and ran out the door. I ordered a bloody Mary to help with my hang over. I enjoy a spicy bloody Mary but not when it's only spicy because all you can taste is horseradish, which was the case with this one due to the heaping spoonful she threw in without being asked (if you didn't like spicy you were just screwed I guess). My wife ordered a blue moon which she said tasted funny. I gathered that it's probably either the fact that they have dirty tap lines or the keg room isn't kept at the appropriate temperature (the Tap poured extremely foamy). The atmosphere in this place wasn't what we were hoping for from its glowing previous reviews. The bar is dimly lit with a crowd that are obviously local regulars and the bartender clearly paid all of her attention to them. The bartender didn't seem to be that helpful / friendly which is always a downside when looking for a. Drink and a chat when. Your in a new area. There were about 15 empty drinks on the bar rail and even 2 dishes that a couple had finished with and left but the bartender was busy eating her lunch at the end of the bar talking to a set of regulars instead of taking care of. It wasnt particularly busy which leads me to question the cleanliness of the joint. The menu was not what we expected. It seemed more like a sit down diners lunch menu instead of a tavern style menu. I was looking for a burger but didn't see anything. All in all I would stay away from this bar unless you like a rougher type crowd. We're not strangers from dive bars and actually enjoy them but we won't be visiting here again. read more

My husband's glass was barely empty before she brought a fresh one. My huge glass of wine was so good. My husband really liked the lobster bisque and fish and chips. My tuna was over cooked and the green beans were straight from the can. The sweet potatoe fries were really good. Understand where you are going and you will love it. Went for dinner with my family and was truly disappointed at the quality of the food. Seeing how it was clearly a bar I ordered potatoe skins, nachos a chili dog, terakyi wings and a beer. The food was around the same quality as a a 7 eleven. The potatoe skins and wings were burnt, they drenched everything in a nacho cheese sauce and everything seemed like it came out if a freezer or can. The chili on my hotdog was the same ground beef as what was served on the Nachos. The wings were tough and chewy , maybe freezer burned? The sauce left a lot to ne desiree. I hate to say it but I do not see why people would pay for food they could put together in 5 minutes at home. The service was good and our waitress pleasant. The food came out fast. Overall they failed in the particular dishes that I ordered but they have some more complex dishes on their menu that might be better, as for me and my family, we are not brave enough to find out. read more

Made reservation for 9 at 6pm, arrived ag 6:02, was seated right away which was the best part of the evening. Waitress came over about 10 minutes later and took our drink and food order. About 10 minutes later she came back and said the drink order was lost and asked again for it. We then got drinks and had to wait another 30 minutes for our dinner. When it arrived half the order was messed up but at that time it was too late to send back. On the way out I approached the manager and did not receive any real sense of apology. I will never go back to this so called restaurant. read more

We come here whenever we're up in the Poconos. It's a big tavern like restaurant off a main road with plenty parking. It has big TV's with sports on all the time, a big bar, with friendly bar keeps. It's sitting area is immense. There's indoor dining, bar dining and outside dining. The menu is hardy, with plenty of my favorite, seafood. Plenty of beers, and hard liquor for anyone who likes drinking, like me. Ha ha. Anyone and everyone in the area, come and enjoy. read more

We live nearby and this is a good local place to grab dinner. We especially like coming on Friday's because we enjoy their Fish and Chip platter which has been consistently crispy and tasty. The fish is usually a large portion and the chips are enjoyed by my husband. He also likes to order the Fried Green Beans Appetizer which comes with a Wasabi dipping sauce packed with a kick. The Tavern is a pleasant one to visit and the help is nice also. read more

Something has changed at the Dutchman. Its been a regular lunch stop for me and my hubby for the past 3 years..really good food, friendly etc...Stopped last week - ugh ugh ugh...burger meat was poor quality, smaller than before and overcooked; cheesesteak just was bad; the Hans Dog seems to have shrunk by at least a 1/3 - barely any chili or onion on it..very disappointing and the oil for the fries definitely needed changing...overall a poor experience.. There was a lot of chatting going on with the bartender the cook and PERHAPS a new owner...hope this gets better. read more

I was at the Dutchman last sat i believe it was the 25th of aug. My servers name was Sue. She was extremely attentive got my drinks and refills quick as if we were her only table but we weren't. We ordered the prime rib and it was mouth watering I asked her to thank the chief and she actually told me it was her fiancé Marty! There really is not much to offer as far as dining in Gouldsboro Pa. So for a nice fast lunch with my daughter we decided to give "The Dutchman "a try... I had there steak sandwich and onion rings.... It was probably the best steak sandwich I have had here in PA !! The onion rings were beer battered and delish ! I loved the outside deck for dining , and if you smoke you can also smoke there. The service was impeccable. and I would go back there often now for lunch or dinner....
