I decided on The Eagle for my birthday even though it's a chicken beer joint. We walked in and we were seated at the bar. I told the host that the music was too loud and I preferred a table. He was very nice about it, but the guy cleaning a table very loudly told him that we should have made reservations! Excuse me you serve fried chicken and collard greens. I didn't realize a place with plastic cups and paper napkins would have strict rules for dining in! The nice guy found us a seat in the restaurant area! We both ordered two pieces of chicken each. He got dark and I got white meat. We shared collards, Mac and cheese and spoon bread. The chicken has a nice little kick, and was just right on with the crispiness, but I took a bite of the meat and was very disappointed that local organic chickens were so chewy. The collards were good as well as the mac and cheese, but not special enough to draw me back in the restaurant. Our server and the rest of the staff except the bus boy were very friendly. My biggest issue was the loud music. If you plan on having a conversation while dining make sure to learn sign language in advance! Sad to say I will not go back. Love the environment and "buzz" at the Eagle. The former Avalon space has always been one of the best patios in town, and as The Eagle it maintains that position. The chicken was juicy with a nice crisp skin, and the portion size is a good value. ( $10 for 1/2 chicken). The chicken however is quite spicy even before adding their spicy honey , and we were not aware/ missed that on the menu altogether. That worked for us, but could definitely be an issue for others. We were eating with our 12 year old son ( who eats spicy foods) and it was too hot for him; the understanding from the server was the kid's menu chicken is the same as the regular chicken, so either we were misadvised, or I'd avoid this place with kids in tow. Sides of succotash and grits were very good and the kale side salad was huge. Our biggest issue was the service. Our server kept forgetting things and being terse in response to our reminders of the things we were missing ( including milk for our son which took 10+minutes to bring a carton of milk as the chicken was too hot. ) Overall good good value, but they need to work on service. read more

Today at 8:20 pm i went with my husband to eat at the Eagle Restaurant in the highlands. When we arrived we entered through the patio and we went to the bar and immediately one of the waitresses IN A VERY RUDE WAY told us that we could not enter until The host indicate us and asked us to return to the entrance in that way we did it and when we arrived at the entrance a boy came out who apparently is an afitrion and wanted to accompany us to the bar of the patio but the person at the bar told him that there was no more service and he started to pick up the chairs simulating that they were closing right in that moment. We felt bad about the way we were being treated and we decided to leave. As we got out and got in the car, we saw that the bar chairs were lowered again and they kept locating more customers in the patio. Then why would they refuse to serve us? I think that because we were Hispanic speaking broken english or maybe a couple of gay men, we were rejected from being there. read more

My friends recommended this fine establishment last year and we decided to check it out. It's a favorite now for my wife and I. The food is great, I've had almost everything on the menu. It's all great. Visited here as a Clemson fan. Best chicken sandwich you will ever have. Friendly staff Emily and Henry made us feel right at home and got us off to a good start after a long night. I've been to the Eagle in Cincy but this one was far bigger. The mac and cheese was amazing too. When Henry came back after he served our food, he asked if everything was fantastic, and we said yes. This really summed up our experience. When you come to the Eagle, the standard is not good food... the standard is fantastic food, and that is what you'll get. Came here on a Saturday night, with no reservation. We had to wait maybe 20 minutes to get a table, which wasn't bad. There is a very large bar area, and also a large patio with gas fireplaces where you can wait. The menus is basically just fried chicken, sides, and a handful of sandwiches/salads. We had 2 adults and one child, and got a whole chicken, collards, mac & cheese, and cole slaw. The sides are plenty large to split 3 or 4 ways. The fried chicken was awesome - had great seasoning and cooked perfectly. Server was very friendly. This was the best chicken we had during our visit to Louisville - highly recommend. read more

I really, really love The Eagle. I'm in a total rut, always getting the fried chicken sandwich and mac & cheese, but it's so good that I can't even be mad at myself. Today my husband and I actually split the sandwich and each got our own side--the side portions are huge so it works. The menu is not huge--definitely focused on their fried chicken and sides. I'm not into food with bones so I get the sandwich, which is dressed with great creamy cole slaw, some crazy delicious sauce, and spicy pickles. I also believe that The Eagle has the best mac & cheese in Louisville, and I've had a lot of mac & cheese. They use a blend of cheeses and it's topped with the perfect crispy, light breadcrumbs (maybe panko). I was with my parents today in addition to my husband. We all had sandwiches. Mom raved about the Bloody Mary, and husband had two different beers he liked from the taps. Mom enjoyed her fried chicken BLT and pimento mac & cheese (both listed as summer specials so their days are likely numbered). Dad had a chopped salad as his side and it looked fresh and delicious. We also had the succotash, which is good and makes you feel a little less guilty about eating fried chicken and mac & cheese, ha!
