A Community Venue Changed The Egremont Barn, now operating as Buttonball Barn, was once a cornerstone of local music and community gathering. Because of our long-standing connection to the space, my husband and I chose it for our wedding celebration, placing our deposit with the previous owners, who were professional and supportive throughout the process. After the property changed ownership, we still proceeded with our event in October. This celebration held particular significance, as my father was seriously ill at the time, and we were grateful he was able to attend. Unfortunately, our experience with the new ownership raised serious concerns about professionalism, transparency, and respect for both clients and staff. On the day of the event, the owner attempted to impose additional charges not outlined in our contract. This included a demand for a $500 fee for using a room to get ready--a space she had explicitly told me I could use earlier in the day, noting it was acceptable despite the building being under construction. While I was getting ready, she entered the room while my mother and a family friend were assisting me and removed a rug from beneath them, stating that I "wasn't supposed to use the room all day." I chose not to address this at the time in order to preserve the tone of the day. Throughout the event, the owner was also openly drinking at the open bar, which had been paid for by my father. As the night concluded, she insisted that I personally break down the entire venue either immediately or first thing the following morning--despite knowing I had family visiting--or I would be charged for a cleaning crew. This expectation had not been communicated beforehand and was not included in the contract. When I suggested discussing it the next day, she continued to press the issue and confronted my husband, who attempted to redirect the conversation. To avoid further escalation, my friends and I cleaned the venue that night--while I was still in my wedding dress. She later stated that she would retain space heaters I had purchased in exchange for waiving the disputed room fee. When I noted that none of these charges or arrangements were contractually agreed upon, she responded, "I'm expensive, and I'm not in the contract either, honey," in reference to her being casted on The Real Housewives of New York City. Additionally, her conduct toward long-standing staff members--many of whom had supported the venue for years--was concerning and contributed to an atmosphere that felt transactional rather than community-centered. Some of those staff members have since left the venue. What was most troubling was the timing and context. The attempts to extract additional money occurred at the end of a wedding celebration involving a seriously ill parent, placing unnecessary stress on a family during an already significant moment. The Egremont Barn once represented collaboration, music, and mutual respect. Under its current ownership, that spirit appears to have shifted toward aesthetics and revenue at the expense of community and care. I was here on a Sunday afternoon to try pizza from the Hilltown Hot Pies pop up. Holy smokes delicious wood-fired pizza and really special, unique, pleasant setting. You can sit outside on picnic benches in a sort of shady piece of land right next to a chicken and goat farm (?). Highly recommend for food and atmosphere. Friendly staff too. read more

I stopped by this fantastic venue on travels with my family and was blown away! The ambiance was incredible and the food was amazing. We happened by on a night of Karaoke and it was so much fun. Cute little place in the middle of nowhere, limited menu but food and service are good. One of the waitress's is a sourpuss, but the other is so fun it evens the place out. You want to find the sweet spot arrival time. It's key between finding good spot to sit and not watching 2 hours of mic checks. A fabulous spot to listen to live music and enjoy some great, local food and drinks. Cozy fire place and wood barn makes for comfortable seating and great acoustics. Get reasonable tickets on line when required with little or no fee and best to arrive early for a seat at a table. Food is really better than we have experienced at any music venue. I wandered upon the Egremont Barn kind of by accident. I was driving by, caught it out of the corner of my eye . . . read up a bit when I got home and headed back that night. The Barn is literally a barn with a nice bar, a great vibe, a variety of live music styles every weekend, occasional stand-up comedy, an open mic night on Thursdays and, most recently, food. So I use to be a big fan of this place. We had stopped a few times before. A few times to see a show and once stoping through for a bite to eat on the way home. When we saw a Led Zepllin cover band we were excited. We always had great food and great service each and everytime. The bar tender was amazing and the food was something we always raved about even telling the cook how great it was. This time we went, it took a good ten min for the waitress to even come to our table after passing us a few times. We though ok they are busy we get it. When she did come over she took our order then when I asked about a glass of water she pointed to a water jug in the corner by the bathroom. We also had to go pick up our own food. Before this we gave our order to the bar tender or someone behind the bar so we were a little confused of why have a waitress who just takes your order and brings your drinks... but ok we came for the food and music. So when we get our food the burger is half the size of what we remember. The burger before was a huge burger on a chiabatta roll and all of these toppings that were amazing this was a burger we told everyone to go there to try, this time it was so disappointing, it has the very basic letice tomato onion, the bun was a regular hamburger bun. The meat in my burger fell apart on me, I spent half the time trying to put it back together. The other burger was just as bad. We could have gone to the diner on the way and had a better burger. We also ordered fries that were from a bag you can get in the frozen food section. I may not know the reasturant business but I have worked for a wholesale food distributer and those fries were from a bag. They were not hand cut but machine cut. All the fries were cut the same way. It was insullting to charge all that for a burger that was half the size and fries that were reheated from a bag. When I told the waitress I was done and unhappy...mentioning the fires from a bag telling her I have to know becasue of allergies she got snotty and acted liked I bothered her. Thinking maybe the manager would be more on the professional side I told her the same thing and how last time the burger was soo much better she got an attitude and defensive with me. Almost trying to intimdating me by getting louder saying they are freshly cut fries and the meat is local. Isn't it your goal to keep the customer happy or at least be nice and try to salvage their experience? Not to fight with the customer. Any apologie was in a condesending sarcatic tone. Even when she asked if she could do anything the lack of sincerity behind it was so rude I just wanted to get out of there. When I went to pay for the drinks.. I was given an attitude by the girl behind the counter.." But you ate your burger didn't you" and while this is going on the Manager walked by and made a snide comment loud enough for the rest of the place to hear. Really, you are not only rude but now all of your staff is going to catch an attitude when I try to pay? I cannot beleive how rude and unprofesional this place was. Went from one of the best burgers that we raved about to one of the worst places. I don't know who owns this place but I can't imagine they agree with staff that tries to intimindate customers. Nice place but service and people are horrendous. Their food\drink system consists of waiting on a line for 30 minutes (they have 2 people and God knows what they're doing there beside fumbling around). Once they take your order and you pay, they write your order on a piece of paper which someone sneaker-nets back to the bar. Then some 45 minutes later some confused and irritated waiter\waitress walks around aimlessly until you flag them down and ask if that is your drink order. From there you get to enjoy your warm beer, warm wine and ice melted mixed drink. My three boys love the food at The Barn! My oldest claims they have the best fish and chips he's tried. He has a comfort zone around his palate that is the width of a human hair so it says a lot. Most everything I've had on the menu has been excellent. Their specials usually shine. My wife digs the fish tacos and always suggest we eat there when going out as a family. In general, it's a hopping joint on the weekends and the music/entertainment has ranged from pretty good to outstanding. Not much negative to say about the place other than it can be too crowded, which I suppose is a good thing for them. Keep flying the banner high, guys! read more

We enjoy this entertainment spot - great environment and often some interesting bands. Beware of that parking lot though on mud days! Recently a couple got their car stuck in the mud from all the recent snow melt. They almost had to call a tow truck to pull them out, put a few patrons gathered together and managed to shimmy them out after lots of rocking and gunning to pull it out. It was a mess. read more

The food here is excellent. I stayed at the Inn nearby and came to The Barn a few nights. The salads were some of the tastiest and freshest I had while visiting the Berkshires. My first time ever writing a review on Yelp. We stayed at the Egremont Inn right next door and the venue was recommended to us by Melissa (a wonderful innkeeper).. My wife and I got there and it was a bit busy. We waited 20 minutes to get a drink. No big deal we weren't in a rush. We asked for an order of fries and tacos. Forty minutes later asked the bartender if she could be sure the order got put in. Her first response was I'll credit you something off the bill. I told her I just wanted to be sure it was in as others around us had ordered their food afterwards. 20 minutes later my wife asked if is was coming and the bartender went off saying she'll refund us . We weren't looking for a refund just some fries and tacos. At that point she asked us our name that was on the order so she could refund us. I told her I paid them cash. She got pissed and said how am I supposed to know how much to refund? How about knowing your menu pricing? My wife spoke with the person at the door and told him how rude the bar staff was and he said it was his boss. Don't get me wrong. I visited the The Barn back in March and I have to say that I felt right at home! I'm from a very small town in Ohio so the venue was just right for my taste. I cherish an intimate setting. Scott Sharrard and The Brickyard Band put on one heck of a performance! The table service/bartending was nothing short of phenomenal and very efficient. Food was delicious. This place is a rising star!! The venue (which I loved as Robbie Burns Pub many years ago) is a nifty, quirky old barn, wonderfully restored by the current owners and full of charm! The food is delicious and the bar well staffed and stocked. The music is varied, and I am cheered by the range of different acts playing on the stage. The sound is good, the room, cheerful and a spot for a nifty evening out, perfect. While the owners' barking dogs sometimes detract from the on-stage act, it is well worth a visit!! read more

After passing The Barn more times than I can count on our way up to our house in the Berkshires, we finally came back for dinner, drinks and the music. The managers do a really nice job of tying it altogether and the place has a great vibe. We had glasses of wine, the chips, the summer salad and a veggie burger and all were very good. The first singer was a little slow for us, but they were followed by a very entertaining band that played some covers but mostly their own stuff. We were very happy we stopped in and we will be back. My only suggestion is that you check who is playing that night and then google them to see if it's your style of music. We will be back, probably with some friends. read more

I do karaoke a lot so I figured they have it here I'd try it out while I'm on vacation. The sound system isn't great and there's only 1 screen. Usually the places I go to have 3. They don't pass out books instead they have you use your cell to look up the songs. Dropped my phone the day before and it wasn't fun looking over my friends shoulder to pick em. The bar was basic at best. The girl mixing the drinks was cool, but they didn't have many choices of alcohol to choose from and when I'm on vaca I want to live it up you know what I'm saying? I wasn't driving and I wanted to chill out and have a couple cocktails w/an app. Food ok nothing to write home about. read more

I could not love this place more. Friendly owners have created a rare environment in the Berkshires, one where both locals and tourists will feel at home. The FOOD is perfect bar menu -- fish tacos, pulled pork, salads, fries. The BAR is great, including local Big Elm beers and Berkshire Mountain Distillers liquor. We've seen some great shows, both smaller touring bands and local talent. And COMEDY NIGHTS are the secret weapon of this place -- one of the owners is from the NYC comedy scene, and she brings up amazing talent you wouldn't expect in such a small venue.
