Great food and service in a choice of atmospheres. Had lunch on the "back porch", which was very charming. Made me feel like I was back in the 19th century overlooking an outdoor playground for bocce ball or croquet. We love listening to live music here, and we love the cozy "speakeasy" vibe, but we're giving 3 stars for the extremely limited menu. When we visit the Lion's Den, we want to eat dinner while we enjoy the music. On this note, we think the burger, chili, and wedge salad that are on the menu are JUST FINE - but these are literally ALL the dining options beyond just a few other light appetizers. We're not sure about the strategy for limiting the menu so severely, when there are 2 other restaurants upstairs whose kitchen you're presumably sharing - even adding just one more sandwich and a soup-of-the-day to the available options would give the regulars some much-desired variety! Red Lion Inn, PLEASE consider enhancing the Lion's Den menu, even just a little bit! This would add to our enjoyment of the place so very much... read more

2 words describe my experience ICE CUBES Popped in after dinner on Pontoosuc Lake for music and cocktails. Music gets 5 ! Katherine Winston's acoustic sets were great. Covers were nicely arranged and her originals were full of emotion. We planned an hour but stayed for both sets untiil closing time. Lisa E suggested we grab the couch right by the music. Ended up sharing and Lisa conversing with two other couples throughout the night. Okay ICE CUBES - we noticed every drink aside from beer and wine were comically heavy on the ice. Lisa E actually took numerous pictures she plans on using in her review. I ordered a resposado old fashioned which unfortunately came out with approximately 15 cubes (a dollar a cube?) - it looked like a coarse slushy! Bartender "corrected" by pouring off into a smaller glass. Of course it had already diluted what might have been a great drink - I gave the 2nd star for the use of proper cherries. The familiar Red Lion store pick bourbon is also a thing of the past. Best I could do to nightcap from the brown liquor choices was Four Roses yellow label. Epic small venue for live music needs to up their cocktail craft game! read more

Stopped here on a recommendation from an acquaintance after touring the Norman Rockwell Museum. Looks very New England inside and out. Not a place for kids. Waitstaff was a little absent minded. Seated in bar under a staircase. Spent entire meal listening to the bar tenders complain about the bad equipment and lack of restaurant cleanliness. Ordered the bbq chicken sandwich. Definitely a frozen , not fresh chicken breast. Bread bun was dry and stale. Bbq sauce was from a bottle. A one a done visit for sure. Very unfortunate. read more

Renovated Lion's Den has a cool Jazz vibe more of a club feel. The old menu is gone and now only drinks and small overpriced nibbles. Still a nice place to pop into before or after dinner. read more

Where have all the old reviews gone ??? Down the stairs into a dim and subterranean pub of yonder. Dark crimson painted ceiling tiles and exposed pipes on a super low ceiling creates a true den. Red velvet backed bunkettes and superb nightly live music make The Lions Den a destination. Of course, you are always free to walk up to the infamous Red Lion Inn porch and spend a few minutes rocking in an oversized wicker chair and taking in the sound of crickets. Check the schedule to see who's playing. On a warm day it's pretty balmy down here. Music plays till midnight. read more

There are three eateries in the Inn: this one in the basement, the tavern right above it, and the main dining room adjacent to the tavern. Because of eating on the go today, it was hard to tell if we were hungry enough for full meals so we decided to go here for dinner and then later to the main dining room for dessert. It was ok, but left us underwhelmed for the price. I got the pulled pork tacos which comes with chips and salsa. The meat was warm but seemed warmed up warm if that makes any sense. If I could give 10 stars I would. Had to go up for work over the weekend and accidently discovered the Lions Den. OMG. It reminds me of the village in NYC years ago. I had a chance to catch Greg Humphreys, Johnny Irion and went back Saturday night (next night) to watch them with Mark Bryan from Hootie and the Blow Fish. Spoke to Greg and Johnny after the show, such down to Earth cool dudes. Cheer! read more

Honestly what happened here? The menu is positively inedible. It's a comedy of errors. As a last resort I tried the turkey croquettes as an attempt to be even remotely health conscious but they arrived as deep fried balls of tasteless mystery meat. Note to chef: actually offer what people might want to eat. I will still come for music, even with the new cover charge, but I will NEVER order food here again until you figure it out! Oh man! I've been going to the Lion's Den @ The Red Lion Inn for over 50 years. It never disappoints. A lot of fun. For a good value, eat upstairs at The Tavern for reasonably priced good food and just walk downstairs to The Lion's Den when done. read more

Do not go here seriously!!!! Horrible service! We arrived at the bar and bartender refused to make cocktails. He said we can only order wine and we did, but then noticed he made cocktails for others. We ordered 8 shots and got 1. Definitely discriminative and not sure why? Bartender literally said no to any drinks we tried to order. read more

Perfect spot for a late-night drink. The ambience is perfect, the drinks are good. We had a lovely nightcap here, and we would do it again.

Old School bar, good pub food, was able to get a vegetarian panini with fresh chips and side salad. Server was a sweetie and atmosphere was pub with dark tin ceiling tiles. We were hungry and it worked. Music nightly. read more

Absolutely disgusting and dirty! This place should be shut down. Ordered the cheese plate, and they gave me moldy parmesan cheese and store bought ham. I think something like sausage was on it too. for $19 it was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. They even put old tomatoes on the dish! I told the waitress and she had no clue what to do. May be the most unsanitary place I have ever walked into... stay away! read more

As a family of 7, we had a 6:30 pm reservation in the garden on July 30th. The food came at 7:55 pm. The servers Joanna and Warren did all they could. Comp'd the beers. Gave us salad and a second round of bread. More water. But really? This is the famed Red Lion? After all that, the salmon was so-so. Scallops last plate delivered. Given The Berks has a deficit of food choices of Monday night dining in summer, others will end up there. We did once before. The excuse is always the same. The kitchen. An underground place with a breath of age. I didn't stay for the music but I dug the environment. I tried the pale ale but it wasn't feeling it. I didn't see the bathroom. I got the Reuben which came with home made fries, a salad with a light dressing (no tasted vinegar). The fries were great, but not hot. The sandwich was just nice. A reasonable serving of meat that was fresh and not over cooked. The sauce was not overwhelming in flavor but was just right in subtlety while barely dripping out of the sandwich. Just grossly over paid for 3 miserable plates. My mom was a waitress and bartender at the den for years and I grew up eating their food, I loved it all my life. Lamb meatballs were dry and cold, the pork tacos were skimpy and 14 dollars per order, French onion soup was barely edible and it's my all time favorite soup. Soooo disappointed. The Den has been a destination spot every trip, twice a year (or more) for 34 years... So we were highly anticipating its reopening. Very limited seating, VERY minimal menu, the warmth is gone, the history is gone. There wasn't a table so we waited about ten minutes for seating at the bar...once two seats opened up, we waited another ten for the bartender to serve us, to no avail so we left....it wasn't even that busy....we've been there when it was packed and still got seated and waited on. I've been to the lions den numerous times during the home away from home visits to the Berkshire's. It can get pricey, but it's got its vibe going with the live music and signature cocktails. It's an older building and the bar is situated under the inn, steep stairs down into a cellar/cave like room, rich in history and just cool to be in. The bartenders are always friendly and you can just come in for the live music every night and take a seat by the bar or a table. Great crowd of visitors looking to enjoy the music. read more

I heard great things about this place and wanted to try it. Very disappointing. Small and dark which is ok. Food was adequate, barely warm nothing special. Service was terrible. I ordered a beer , the bartender set it on the bar for the waitress. I could see it sitting there while our waitress stood at the bar carrying on a conversation with another server. Never came back to check after meals delivered had to ask more than once for the check. Go somewhere else! read more

Good food, and music every night without a cover charge. Superbly friendly staff. Their chili is very good, and on Sundays I very much like their special, the turkey dinner. Most restaurants in Stockbridge are overpriced for their quality, but not the Lion's Den. read more

Stayed at the Inn during September and had a lovely dinner here. Seafood Gratin was out of this world delicious. Lobster so fresh I thought I though I was in Maine again. Couldn't quiet fall in love with the corn side dish. Would dine again! Side note; the climate control worked flawlessly in our 15th century cottage. read more

I love it here - except for the staff. The bartenders are the WORST. Lately whenever I go it is either an elderly very short grey haired woman who is slow/inattentive/easily confused & overwhelmed/ rude/untrained in hospitality / unfriendly - OR , a younger black very curly haired woman who is even worse - if that's even possible. She left our table (the only one in the whole place on a Monday) with empty wine AND water glasses and all of us attempting to flag down her attention while she either sat behind the bar on her phone or leaned over the bar chatting to men I recognized as staff from upstairs in the restaurant who just finished their shift and came down to have what - employee staff party with the bartender while paying customers sat around treated like an inconvenient annoyance? She was rude, slow, untrained - and also, I have bartended much of my life. When not pouring drinks one is expected to be busy and do side work. She sat on the wrong side of the bar ignoring the room and leaning on the bar chatting to men at the bar - when she wasn't on her phone that is. She certainly wasn't polishing glasses, tidying the filthy bar or straightening up the mess of crooked chairs and dirty tables that the bar was.
