We started out as a complex case due to Bernie's reactivity towards other people, a variety of objects (mainly those with wheels), hyperactivity, etc. We learned how to keep Bernie under his threshold so he gets to practice good behavior as much as possible. We went through his Babies Don't Bark course and Bernie is now the best older brother to my one month old! I never would have imagined Bernie would be walking next to a stroller or staying calm by lying off to the side when people/dogs pass by but sure enough he's doing it...still with lots of cheese to motivate him :-) Mike helped us get anxiety meds started, which has made a big difference, and has normalized wearing a muzzle! I won't sugar coat the amount of work and patience it takes to keep up on training but it's been worth it. Mike is so responsive in emails (within hours of asking a question) and has lots of YouTube videos and books to help owners. Training a dog is a life long experience! Before I spoke to Beyond the Dog I spoke…read morewith another training service and after digging into very specific questions I found out that other service uses shock collars. Beyond the Dog uses only humane techniques that have been approved by animal behavior organizations. We were not sure what to expect from a trainer but we desperately needed help with our two smallest dogs. We had trouble with barking, reactivity, and aggression so we signed up for the executive program. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. Our trainer Ally changed our lives! She made a wonderful connection with both dogs. They hate when people come over and have never felt comfortable around anyone but us but you should see them when Ally arrives! They completely love her. She has worked with them on not barking, going to their place when people arrive and staying there, and walking next to us calmly outside. My family keeps commenting on what different dogs they are now. We are all so much calmer and happier! Word to the wise, you as an owner also have to be involved. Once the program was over we had to keep up the work in order to maintain all the progress she made.

For our second attempt, the trainer called 10 minutes after she was supposed to be at our house saying she got held up at another visit and could be at our house in 30 minutes which would make her 40 minutes late. We declined. An employee set up a call with us to speak to the owner for them to apologize and try to make things right but 40 minutes after we were expecting the owner's call at 8:00 pm, that same person texted for the owner and said his wife's car died. They offered us a free session but we had already spent 20 days getting just an Initial meet and greet with our dog. We have different definitions of professionalism and it was best we parted ways. We have since found a very professional and reliable dog training company.

Then there was a multi-week gap in communication and eventually a text saying she didn't have the time or energy to help my pup out, all despite me having pre-paid for a 5 session pack. To make matters worse, she overcharged me by $100 for the pack. The only silver lining is that I was able to negotiate a partial refund. The whole experience soured me on Pam 4 Paws.

We purchased her puppy package for in-home training sessions with our French Bulldog, Greta. Not only did Pam teach us how to interact with her, but Greta LOVED her and learned so much from her visits. At only four months, Greta is now potty trained, comes on command, sits on command, gives, 'hi-fives,' is crate trained, started to learn how to go on walks with a harness, knows command, 'up,' and 'off,' can fetch, and we learned how to calm her when she gets over stimulated. She even began some skateboarding with her! Of course we have to put in the work to continue to in grain these things in a puppy, but I can't even begin to convey the wealth of knowledge Pam imparted on us, so that we could acclimate more into puppy life and so Greta fit into ours. Pam teaches the human as well as the dog giving you a wealth of information, going above and beyond so that you know why a dog does the things they do, how to manage the behavior, and how the dog will absorb the training.
