I have been to the Elegant Farmer twice now, once in the mid-winter, and once in mid-summer. (So I have missed apple season, which most of the other reviewers talk about.) To me, it is a fairly good, if expensive grocery store in a big barn, of mostly local products like cheese, sausage, and produce. The deli is a bit pricy, but the simple sandwiches and salads are really excellent and tasty - and the soups (only available during cool weather, folks!) are outstanding. You can eat your food at a couple of shared tables inside, or take it outside on picnic tables. The apple pie in a bag is really good - if you are on a diet, eat half of your slice, and bring the rest home for the next day! I have heard that another thing you can do there with kids is to take an electric trolley ride from the nearby town of East Troy, to and from the Elegant Farmer. We will check that out next time we are nearby. read more

Was at the Elegant Farmer in Dec. got a card that said discount in Jan and feb a discount. Went there in Jan and was denied the 20% discount they said you needed the card. No where in the card did it say bring this card or coupon in never go back again. Came in from Milwaukee 1/2 hour drive in. was denied that's a crock. Bad business loved that place but not no more!,!!! read more

Ordered a Raspberry Apple pie in a bag a week and some days before Thanksgiving online. I did not think we would get it before Thanksgiving but the shipping was super fast and we got it 3-4 days after ordering. We served this as our main pie on Thanksgiving and everyone who had a slice of pie was blown away by the quality. It was a huge hit at our Thanksgiving dinner. I did not expect it to be so good, and now we are hooked. We will probably try out another pie for Christmas dinner. I might even try out some of their popcorn too. We are from Florida, so while we can't visit the farm in Wisconsin, we will definitely be ordering more from their website. read more

A typical commercial orchard with multiple ways to take your money without any of the charm of a real farmer/orchard visit. Terrible crowds.

I could get lost in the store. We went in to browse and left $88 poorer and with bags upon bags of goodies. The prices are great. They have all different types of jams, breads, salsas, fruits, vegetables, and sugary treats. And that's just the beginning. The apple cider was SO good. The apple cider donuts were even better. The smell reaches your nose right when you get out of your car. The staff was a bit unfriendly but you get past it because you're so entranced with the food around you. For lunch we split a pulled pork sandwich, a bowl of chili with scoop chips and a loaded baked potato. For $19 we were more satisfied with the food here than some of the places we visited in Lake Geneva. I highly recommend making the Harvest Fest a must visit place on your vacation. read more

Awesome place, I can find things there that I can't find at other stores, They just need to start getting in some old cheese (3 year old white cheddar) mmmmm good. We went for the pies! The bakery is what drew us to the little county bakery and deli. We took our time looking through the store. they make bread, pies, cookies, caramel corn, etc on site. We bought several small pies: caramel apple, berry apple, and several cookies: pecan cookie and novelty cookie for the season. I also bought the caramel corn. We ate a grilled cheese sandwich made with their home made bread; garlic herb made with two different cheeses and tomatoes. We also ordered soup; tomato and chicken noodle. Everything we ate was delicious. The pies we took home and they were also delicious. Worth the 30 minute drive from Lake Geneva, where we stayed for a couple days. read more

We have been coming here for over 20 years. We knew we were over paying, but it was a tradition and we dealt with it. This year we came with the basket we bought years ago, ready to walk up to pick our apples, only to find out we had to pay an entrance fee. I explained we have our basket and we had no interest in taking the hayride. She said we would still have to pay because they are in need of more security. Really, at an apple orchard? This is the one. This this the place you want to go every fall if not twice per fall (for apples and pumpkins). Yes - your wallet frowns upon arrival. Yes - the crowds can be extreme. Yes - it's totally worth it. The best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. The Elegant Farmer has so much to do that I could come here every year and never get sick of it. Just in the parking area there's huge store (smiley face barn) with treats, meats, cheeses, and anything else you can think of, to the attached eating area where you can get pulled pork, caramel apples, cider, chili, etc all fresh and delicious and you can enjoy it on a spot made out of hay. Then there's the hut with the apple cider freshly baked donuts - enough said. There's also a fun hayride that takes you to the apple tree picking area with several choices in apples (designated by colored banners) or you can continue on the hayride to the not too challenging but fun corn maze or continue along for the humongous pumpkin patch where you literally can find whatever pumpkin you desire. On top of all this fun - they decided to add HELICOPTER RIDES this year. Walking up to the booth figuring it would be excessively expensive I saw an option for $20 for 3 minutes! I immediately bought a ticket and ran up the hill (nearly dragging my date) to the area where the helicopter picks you up. Although 3 minutes, my first helicopter ride was worth every penny. Elegant Farmer never gets old and never will, and not only do they stay consistent in delivering an awesome experience and awesome food, they seem to add something new and fun every year. We decided to stop by on our way home to Chicago because of their famous "pie in a bag" and let me tell you... it did not disappoint ! The pie is definitely on the sweet side but all you need is a small slice and you'll be satisfied. We came here for pie but came out with everything from honey sticks to bison meat sticks and cheese curds. For those saying this place is pricey, it really isn't but it is easy to spend a lot because of the way the place is set up (you have to walk through everything before you get to the pie). So if you're looking for the pie go straight to the back! I'll be back for the pie. read more

Purchased their product, Door County Cheery Tar. There were no directions on the packaging so I called their store. The lady answered and was rude and did not have the time to help with directions. Who makes a product with no directions? It is a good thing you can get a Christian message on their phone messages, but no baking instructions on their product , I will pray. To baby Jesus for help on the Elegant Farmer products , epic fail. Thank God I did not buy products for our employees, vendors and clients, baby Jesus would have been busy answering questions. New this year, they charge EVERY person who enters the orchard. For a family of four, this cost of $16.00. They told us it included the hay ride, which had a long line waiting. When I said that it is no longer family friendly due to the increased cost, the cashier said the owner didn't want to do it but had to this year. to make more money. The kids said they wanted to simply walk the orchard. We asked for baskets, which are no longer at the bottom of the orchard. They are now located at the top of the hill. We ended up waiting for two hay wagons before we were able to get onboard. The ride was just at the top of the hill and lasted less than two minutes. Hardly worth the $5.00 which boasted about including a Hay Ride! There were NO red delicious apples on the trees and none in the bins. These are our favorite apples so it was very disappointing that there were none in the areas that were open for picking. We will be getting our apples from farmers markets or other orchards from now on. We have been coming to the Elegant Farmer for over 15 years and now it is no longer economical. For a half bushel of apples, it was $30. Add the extra $16.00 just to step foot in the orchard we were up to $46.00. Add food and drinks and added another $30. We spent less than two hours here and don't feel the need to come back next year. I have always raved about the Elegant Farmer, but no longer. read more

Home made everything- jams, breads, pastries of all flavors, ciders of all flavors, and a variety of popcorn. This store has everything grandma used to make but better. The deli also makes killer sandwiches and soups to eat in or to go. Every time I travel the Milwaukee area I try to make a trip out here so I can have a few bites of farm freshness and take home some unique and delicious treats. This pumpkin patch is the real deal - we had to actually detach our squashes from the vines. We went kind of late in the season, so all of the apple trees were picked clean. However, there are large bins with different kinds of apples free for the sampling, and available to purchase. The grocery store in the barn was neat, and we for sure got suckered into buying ALL THE TOURIST THINGS like apple butter and apples and cheese curds, etc. Do NOT miss the donut shack. OMG. Dying just thinking about the hot apple cider donuts covered in sugar...and I'm not a sugar person. I will not tell you all how many donuts we purchased and how many remained in the bags by the time we got back to Chicago, but let's just say it was an absurd amount for four people in a relatively short time span. Definitely worth the trek from Chicago, and great for grown-ups, kids and families. Even my husband, who when informed of our pumpkin patch adventure rolled his eyes so hard I thought they were going to fall right out of his head, enjoyed himself. That may have had something to do with the donuts...he's easily bribed. read more

What a huge loss! I've been coming here for nearly 25 years and apparently it's been bought and gone corporate. It's very obvious too! It used to be such a quaint place in the country with absolutely the best apple pies. Now I can buy those on Peapod,, the line is out the door and it's completely lost it's luster. I will never go back to apple pick or to their fall festival again! The food was horrible and the place was a mess. The trees were not marked well and were picked almost bare in September! To add insult to injury, they were giving helicopter rides over the orchard. Sorry, but I didn't realize this was the Wisconsin Dells! I didn't drive from the city to pick apples with a helicopters swooping noisily over my head. What a joke! And the final blow was that they asked to check my car on the way out of the parking lot! Tacky!!!! I'lm sad to say that I'll have to find a new place to enjoy with my family, one that hasn't sold out! read more

The apple picking is great as the kids can climb the trees. The corn maze is also great - not to mention the famous apple pie and great apple donuts. However I'm not sure why in the world they city-fied the pumpkin patch - it's totally pathetic and a sad excuse for a pumpkin patch - they went through and cut all the pumpkins off the vines, eliminated the ugly ones, and nicely placed them on mowed paths. If you've never been outside a major city this may be ok, but if you want a real pumpkin patch, you don't want to go here. read more

Exactly what you want from a "country" store for out of town visitors: beautiful, local or fresh produce, in-house bakery, souvenir food items. All items extremely high quality. They must have gotten the memo about staff friendliness bc everyone we encountered was very kind and helpful. A bit pricey but well worth it. We got fantastic sandwiches and sides at the deli, ate at picnic tables outside and met other families. Young children love the tall rocking horses out front. Then back in for ice cream and pie. My husband and I were in East Troy last weekend for a concert, and stumbled across an ad for The Elegant Farmer. Believe it or not, HE was obsessed and we just had to check it out. We stopped by on our way out of town the morning after the concert, and I'll be honest, I was feeling a little more like getting some unhealthy greasy food and sleeping all the way home. The place was really cute and homey, and pretty big. Like I said, I wasn't in the mood for perusing even though a place like this is generally totally up my alley. But, I was impressed with their selections. Some things were run of the mill country store items, but there were also a lot of unique foods and gift ideas. We left with: A turkey and gouda sandwich, a bag of Ole Salty's potato chips, Apple Cider, and toffee. Everything was delightful!! Simple items all were really awesome and memorable. Especially the toffee...yum! I believe I actually saw them on Food Network a couple years ago, but didn't make the connection until I read other reviews on Yelp. Now I'm kicking myself for not checking out one of those pies. I am totally going to have to have one shipped for my husband. This is a great place to visit in the fall-- picking apples, eating amazing apple pie in a bag (or at least mostly the filling), drinking hot cider. The lines can be long, but wasn't unexpected. It's nice to just walk around. It's a great experience-- not somewhere if you're more in a rush or want to get in/out. It really can be as busy as an amusement park, parking pretty far away- just FYI. read more

We have been coming here for years. We were very excited to come out today and pick apples. That is, until we found out that they now charge $5 per adult and $3 per child (3 -11) to just get on the property. They said they were losing too much money the other way, but the admission included a free basket and a hay ride. Given that we would already be spending $18-$30 on apples, the admission is ridiculous. We left and went to a farmers market for apples. If they keep the admission fees, we will not be back. We've been to Elegant Farmer on numerous occasions. We live in Burlington, but travel to Elegant Farmer for the deli sandwiches. Very fresh and very delicious! Grab a Soda and the lunch combo....enjoy it outside in the country atmosphere. Also there are the famous "pies baked in the bag" (We don't particularly care for them, but to each, their own). Cool place to go when you have nothing to do. This past weekend, I took my niece and nephews there to the apple picking orchard. They had a blast searching for the perfect apple and placing them in the basket. We naturally walked away with the famous apple pie baked in a bag and got my token 3-pack of smoked beef sticks. This establishment has inspired me to write my first non restaurant reviews. The apple pie in a brown bag is unique and "among the best I have ever had". I'm glad it comes in smaller sizes and different flavors. The store is attractively laid out and provides a pleasant shopping experience. Not many unique items though are offered other than the pie.
