We always enjoy seeing the photos while away. We can see how happy they are. It is also nice how they check on our house too and bring in packages. I would like to give them a special shout out for the care that they gave our pets while we were away during a recent large snowstorm. We were concerned that they wouldn't be able to make it to our house because of the severity of the storm. they kept in touch and made sure that there was enough food and water for our fur babies in case they wee unable to make it back at the scheduled time. We didn't want them to endanger themselves and knew that they would be fine if they couldn't make it back. All went well and they reported back to us the next morning when the roads were cleared and they could make it back. They dug out a spot on the deck for our dog to get out and go the the bathroom and all was well. This is a great company and they truly love the pets that they are taiga care of.

Maybe the problem lies in their definition of a "walk" and mine. I asked that the daily 30 minute activity be a walk, which they charge $25.00 for. If my dog doesn't have at least one "walk" per day, his digestive system shuts down. I walk him 3 miles per day to keep him regular, but expected at least one walk, on leash, to minimize the affects on him. I also expected a stress response but when they sent me a picture of him on day 2, I knew he was in trouble. Joe, the GM, called me after I sent an email discussing my disappointment and we had a productive conversation, and I had decided not to do this review. But then Robin, the owner called, to justify that they did nothing wrong and actually tried to blame it on my dog. That changed it for me. I'm sure if you have a dog with no special needs that they are fine, but beware if you have a dog that isn't normal. Make sure you talk to Joe so he understands what you expect from the visit and you may have a better outcome than mine.

We so far have only experienced Dr. Carter, but she's been very knowledgeable, wonderful in listening in my concerns, and looks out for what's best for my cat. My cat certainly hates the car ride to appointments, but she adjusted well when Dr. Carter and the assistant handle her. We might hear some happy purring before the appointment is over. Scheduling new patients appointments, checkups and follow-ups is super easy to do online. You can pick a suggested date and time with details for the appointment and then either via text, email or phone call--they will confirm the appointment. Sandbank will also send reminders via text or emails leading up to the appointment. Trust me, they don't want you to miss your appointment. They are closed on weekends, but they do stay open until 6pm during the week. Any emergency visit, you should call or contact a 24 hr vet hospital near you. Sandbank recently revamped their website too. So if you are in the Cheshire area and looking for a vet for your fur baby(ies), give the Sandbank team a go!

Should be named the "Cheshire dog store"…read more I was heading toward Cheshire to run some errands. I was low on cat food of a specific brand (Fromm). There are several good animal feed stores in the area, so I searched for one that stocked a specific brand of dry cat food: Fromm. I found this store online, checked it out, and saw that their website showed that they stocked Fromm dry cat food. The online photo, which is a stock photo that can be found on Fromm's website, shows seven varieties. I stopped at the store when I got to Cheshire. Aside from a quick greeting when I entered the store, I didn't have any interaction with the staff during my visit. The section dedicated to dogs was large, varied and comprehensive. I had some trouble finding the cat section. I went in search of Fromm brand dry cat food and finally found a single large bag and three smaller bags on a table. They were not the variety or size that I was looking for. I decided to leave. Their dog supplies are fairly good, but the forty mile commute to Cheshire Cat and Dog is a little long. I am heading to the local Agway to stock up on Fromm dry food for cats.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital and, as a result,…read moreI will never use another VCA facility again. My young dog began repeatedly vomiting and was unable to keep down food or water. I called VCA Cheshire immediately, expecting my primary veterinary office to help determine the best course of action. Instead, I was told they were overbooked and could not see him. I was directed to VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton. At no point during that conversation was it made clear that I was being referred to an emergency hospital or that doing so would affect my VCA CareClub benefits and insurance coverage. Had that been explained, I would have explored other VCA locations or non-emergency veterinary hospitals that could have provided the same diagnostics while remaining covered under my plan. After arriving in Shelton, we waited approximately six hours for basic diagnostics--a blood panel and abdominal X-rays. Ultimately, no definitive diagnosis was made. We were told there "might" be material in his stomach. Still, no obstruction could be confirmed, and the recommendation was simply to monitor him at home and return for additional testing if he did not improve. The bill exceeded $1,500, with 75% required before treatment, despite there being no definitive diagnosis or treatment beyond fluids and anti-nausea medication. While I understand emergency veterinary medicine is expensive, I expect clear communication and informed decision-making rather than common advice. Instead, after 6 hours of waiting, I left feeling that I had been sent into an unnecessarily expensive situation when non-emergency would have provided the same results on a similar time frame What disappoints me most is the lack of communication. If VCA Cheshire had explained that the referral was to an emergency specialty hospital that would not be covered by my CareClub plan, I could have made an informed decision. Instead, I was left flabbergasted in Shelton with an unexpected bill and a recommendation to spend even more money on additional testing. This experience has completely eroded my trust in VCA. My immediate family owns multiple dogs, 12 in total, and after this experience, none of us intend to use VCA hospitals or insurance programs in the future. I hope VCA improves communication with pet owners, so others do not experience the same situation, but given their reputation and their sarcastic responses to other reviews, I doubt it. Do yourself a favor: go to anyone else who actually has your and your pet's best interests at heart rather than your wallet. This company is a disgrace to the profession. A zero is not low enough.
