The building is very well maintained and there's additional security that patrols the building which helped my peace of mind as a single person. There's also on-site garage parking and a really nice roof deck with elliptical machines and great views. I only recently moved because I wanted to change from a studio to something larger and there weren't any 1 or 2 bedrooms available right when my lease was ending, otherwise I would have stayed in the building.

I absolutely loved my studio though - the high ceilings, exposed pipes, and clean, updated everything. I always appreciated the helpfulness of Jonathan and Alex, who were the main contacts during my residency. My favorite though, was Richard, the maintenance lead. He was consistently quick to respond to maintenance requests, always friendly, always kind. He even helped me hang a few pieces of artwork because I couldn't do it on my own! I deeply appreciated him and the crew, who showed pride in the upkeep and cleanliness of the building - lobby, gym, elevators, garbages, entryway. Thought it's not worth removing a star, it's worth noting that the front desk staff has seen a lot of turnover over the years. And honestly, their service and temperament have been... uneven. Not as consistently stellar as when I first moved in, with Jonathan and Alex as first points of contact - they've since been promoted (!). But, I moved out in July, 2024 so hopefully that's worked itself out and the front desk staff at Maxfield are back to offering excellent service all around. Anyhoo, I'm writing this review so many months after moving because this year, I missed seeing the NYE fireworks out of the beautiful windows of my Maxfield unit (the #5s)! lol And I want to affirm my primarily warm experience there and encourage new tenants to consider Maxfield as your home, as long as you're gonna care for it as well as Richard and his team do :) (And, as long as you're comfortable navigating the surrounding unhoused community. I never felt unsafe, but not everyone has the same sense of safety.)

Vincent and other maintenance is absolutely wonderful and it's the only time I've ever trusted anyone to go into my apartment without me being home. I've lived at so many high-rises and never felt safe letting any of the staff in my place unattended, I even feel that way at my new place! I never felt this at the Brockman and anyone who came into my unit did everything properly and with care. But the biggest thank you to Mike who really makes a resident feel welcomed from the beginning to the end and always took any of my needs or concerns so serious and handled things in such a professional manner. Brockman was the best experience I ever had as a renter in Los Angeles and if I could pick this building up and put it down in a better area, I would stay forever!

We…read morehad informed several times during the week of our move in of specific problems like fire alarm issues and other maintenance issues and we where basically wrote off and made out to be liars like what we where experiencing wasn't happening. In our time living there we got to know other tenants very well and the consensus of opinion about management was the same across the board. Absolutely awful. Any noise complaints like dance parties/ classes directly above your unit is handled with a response close to " they are upstairs neighbors and noise will be heard, but we will talk to them and that is about all [they] can do". The results from that are absolutely nothing until they move which was our case. When trash shoots are clogged I was met with this response on several occasions " take a stick and poke it down". Packages are left by the front desk on the floor in a huge pile which are susceptible to being stolen. On many occasions important documents and packages were not received in any timely matter because of that fact. The front desk security there is an absolute joke! The front door which is supposed to have a buzzer does not work and there are many altercations with homeless people and people who are not supposed to be on the premises entering the building. On top of that the security at the front desk does absolutely nothing besides sit on their butt and watch sports on their phone or play video games on their phone. I find half the time they are outside the building having conversations with random people instead of actually doing their job. They also have a Checkin list that guests are supposed to sign into that in my entire stay there has never been filled out. In a case of emergency you won't have any information to go off of to refer to the police because of that. If I could give this apartment building a zero I would but because that is not a possibility I give it a one star.

I was suspicious at first, especially because…read moreliterally every other apartment I visited during my frantic search of the area was crappy, overpriced, and/or managed by crazy people, not to mention awash in terrible Yelp reviews, so I thought surely this place was too good to be true. But it really is that great. Of course, I'm not saying this building is perfect. Like other buildings, problems do arise here an there, and you encounter the same issues as you would in any communal living setting. But unlike other places, the management actually deal with the problems as they arise, within reason, and they don't try to pull the wool over your eyes. In addition, the sense of community here is great. Liz and everyone else that work here are so friendly, I genuinely love going to check the mail or pick up a package, because we usually chat for a few minutes. They truly care about the building residents! I think this situation is really rare in a big city. The cherry on top of it all is when I signed the agreement and was lead to my apartment, I had mentioned that I was new to the city and did not know anyone. That's when Liz encouraged me to join her and some of our neighbors for a hike. I took her up on her offer and drove to Runyon Canyon Park (which is only minutes away). The hours flew by as I got to know some of my neighbors/co-adventurers. The other day a friend who used to live in LA but currently does not was passing through town, and I offered him a place to stay--I love having friends over because for the first time in years I have a place that's big enough to have guests. When I told him the address, he revealed that he had actually lived in this building when he first moved to LA! When I asked him how it compared to the other places he'd lived around town, he said this was actually his favorite, in part because it was the biggest studio apartment he ever had. So there you have it! You really can't go wrong with this place. I plan to stay at The Lofts on La Brea for the foreseeable future.

Since then we've had 5 Management companies, they're all useless & this place has turned into a shit hole. In 2+yrs! The owners do NOT care at all, thus why we are on our 5th manager. Sept 2025 a fire on the 11 floor each floor got water damage down to the sixth fl. Still not fixed it April 2026! All floors are dirty except the 3rd level, management has ONE lady trying her best to clean, it's too much for one person, she had help before he is now gone & they didn't replace him. When everyone complains is when they bring outside help to clean up. Washer & dryer never working or takes your money, no hot water on some of the machine, yet you are charged extra for hot water. Not kidding. All I can say is there are better places to live, don't move here. Homeless get in all the time, pulling fire alarms, roaming the floors. Never had an issue with cockroaches, they let a lot of low income into the building & it's over run now with roaches. You see rats in the parking lot. This building is the worst, you complain to the manager now & past, the manager tells you no one else is complaining. Yet a lot of us have lived here a long time & we speak to each other, getting the same feed back, "oh they told me no one is complaining" Some bat shit crazy way to handle your tenants by gaslighting them. Don't count on getting anything fixed fast around here, they got a guy at the top who is blocking it all, he has too much power. Wonder if his wife knows he is seeing women on property? Oh yeah & one of the food places downstairs put me into the hospital for a week due to a rat being cooked in there taco meat. Don't eat any taco's facing Broadway. Yes I reported it to Health Dept. Security is questionable, not all the guys, the black guys are gone, who were amazing at their jobs and nothing but Spanish ppl on property now, it's hard to call them in the middle of the night if there is an issue & can't communicate with them. Some of the Spanish security is great, on top of the bums. For years one guy wouldn't give me a key to the handicap lift. He actual said to me we can't have ppl playing on them, I'm 60+yrs old. Meanwhile he uses it to bring in all this supplies for his home of 5 ppl. I'm on a waiting list for two knee replacements. The list goes on and on believe the ppl who have posted about this place! Don't move here, save yourself the headache. Beware of Rats of all kinds here.

My brother lived next door to a guy who played music all day long with a subwoofer / base that made the apartment vibrate. Management was no help and I witnessed them try to make my brother feel like he was the issue as he was the only one complaining. We watched the guy pick fights with crazy, yelling homeless men on the street from the apartment window the final time I visited. What a disappointment it ended up being! My brother survived a year Nextdoor to the most unhinged man I have ever met and had absolutely no support from the building management team. Word of advice to management - don't tell your tenants to "call the police" to deal with a crazy neighbor - how about you show up to your office on time and be a decent human being with some humanity and respect for tenants who are working two jobs to afford your apartment complex. Having lived in both New York City for 10 years and Los Angeles for the past five, I can honestly say I have never experienced a management team that provides such exceptional service. As a young, single woman living in a major city, the sense of safety, responsiveness, and care has meant more to me than I can express. The building is beautifully maintained and offers every amenity you could want, including a brand-new gym and EV chargers. Its location is also incredibly convenient and fun! The Madison has truly been my home away from home, and I am immensely grateful for my time here. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Everyone is respectful, the building sits in the center of Hollywood with great amenities but the best thing about this place is the building manager and the building staff that takes care of cleaning and the trash and the odd jobs needed by tenants. I am moving over sea to another job and I will miss this building and its great staff.
