Who doesn't love a yummy empanada?
    Cheryl M.

I'm always looking for a yummy empanada, patty, turnover, pasty (meat hand pie) and found some delicious Argentinian empanadas at Empanada King...Hand-sized savory pies filled with a variety of meats (with vegetarian options) in a tender pastry dough and baked...Mmmmm! I found Empanada King by accident a couple months back while waiting for my pup at the vet (Sage) and bookmarked it for a future visit. Since I was in the area gave them a call to make sure they were open during these "covid times" and to place an order for a first, "social distance" family visit. Yeah it's been awhile... * BEEF EMPANADA - filled with ground beef, green olives, hardboiled egg with flavors of paprika, cumin, onions - 5 stars! * CHICKEN EMPANADA - shredded chicken in a tomato base, paprika, oregano and other seasonings - delicious with a wetter filling - 4 * HAM and CHEESE - ham, mozzarella and gypsy peppers...got these for my nieces and nephew but liked the chicken better * SPINACH - spinach, onion and ricotta cheese * CHIMICHURRI - parsley, garlic, olive oil, oregano and red vinegar - tangy from the vinegar and stronger flavor from the use of dried herbs vs fresh. *** 4 - 4.5 stars *** Empanadas were a hit even with the 8 and under set...Pastry is a simple, with a tender texture so not flaky or buttery but a flour dough that absorbs all the wonderful flavors. Empanadas all stamped with the contents inside which makes it easy to choose...pricing is super reasonable ($3.50?!) compared to others out there so come and enjoy some delicious Argentinian empanadas while SUPPORTing SMALL BUSINESS...they make a great snack or entree with a salad and reheats nicely. Will definitely return to try their other flavors like their "International empanadas" and their "sandwiches de miga" (layered sandwich)...not sure all the components but definitely has me intrigued! Especially, the fatay which I believe is filled with lamb! Located off Highway 101, exit Woodside and off Bay Road in the industrial part of Redwood City/Menlo Park.

Food, service and ambiance delicious. Highly recommended! Hope the picture is attached!

Seriously? Is this supposed to be served to a customer?

Burnt empanadas. Completely mortified that any business would think that it's ok to serve customers, who pay them money, this kind of shit. Back in my home country of Japan, they would've gone bankrupt within a week of opening. Absolutely shocked at the non-existent standards of food this business has, and the blatant lack of respect and responsibility to their customers, no less.

1/2 of the huge Milanese sandwich

I went to this place as my husband needed to go to Redwood City. This is in an industrial location . Easy to order online to go. I also ordered a few empanadas from here to compare to other empanadas in area as well as a chicken Milanese sandwich. The empanadas were also fresh & good, but similarly not the most memorable. I think I like fried empanadas in general & these 2 places I went to are healthier-baked. The sandwich was huge & fresh albeit a bit dry bc no sauce or just little Mayo? My husband found the onions a bit strong in the sandwich (I don't eat onions). I think if they grilled them onions it would taste even better. I was disappointed to not find any chimichurri sauce included as I always assumed sauce would be included w/ empanadas. The prices were great for the empanadas at 3 for $10. The sandwich deal includes drink & chips. I may return if I'm in area craving empanadas. Next time I would like to order the bulk cocktail empanadas for $25.

    "Bolivian Saltena"
    Sunset Chaser 2.

My family & friends previously ordered Bolivian Saltenas (different than an empanada-same idea but there are distinct differences) from Nuri's Donut House in Redeood City, which has sadly closed. My husband & I saw the delivery car for Empanada King on the freeway. We called the # and it went straight to VM at 1pm on a Saturday so when we stopped I tried to order online. After plugging in our order, the earliest order time was Monday at 11am. Oh well. I did message them about pricing for Staff Appreciation week at my daughter's school-60 on staff so it would been a good size order for them. Someone messaged back several days later apologizing for the delay & said that she wasn't receiving message notifications in a timely manner. No big deal. I figured I would be the guinea pig & order for my family to see how it was before feeding the teachers & staff. Fast forward a week or 2 and I decided to see if I could place an order. I was pleasantly surprised that it gave the the option to select ASAP or schedule a future delivery. I ordered 6 "Bolivian Saltenas,Argentinian Empanadas and 2 dessert empanadas $59.94. I live 10 miles away so I got in the car & needed to stop for gas. While I was filling up, my phone rang & it was a kind woman from Empanda King asking if I was coming. I said, yes, I am leaving right now, I should be there in 15 minutes. The lady said, ok because we closed at 4. I apologized & told her Inhad no idea because I placed the online order at 4 & the system allowed it. They could have called and told me they couldn't fill the order because they were closing. Few live close to their location as they are in a heavily industrial neighborhood with auto body shops and warehouses so that needs to be taken into consideration. I arrived at 3:30 and a man came out. I immediately said, "I am so sorry, I didn't realize you closed at 4-we live 15 minutes---" he cut me off and said, "one time! never again!" as he shook his finger at me. I couldn't BELIEVE I was being scolded like a child. SO, SO rude. Now on to the food...my husband was born & raised in Bolivia so we know what an authentic saltena is. Their saltenas were flavorful and cooked perfectly but true Saltenas are very juicy, with chunky meat, potatoes, hard boiled eggs & kalmatta olives. Theirs were made with ground beef and it was more of a paste consistency. The dessert empanada were fantastic and the spicy beef Argentinian empanadas were not considered spicy by the recipient. So food was fantastic but I really can't get by the rudeness of what I think was an owner. Looking at the other reviews, it sounds like others have been the recipient of his unpleasantness.

    Yummmmm
    PJ S.

Hector Varela I got the humita (beschamel and corn), the chicken with Gypsy peppers, traditional beef (with the raisins and olives etc) and Argentinian chimichurri beef. All were excellent. And they have a 3 for $10 deal, I shoulda gotten 6 I'd skip the corn next time cuz it's good but not AS good as the others, and they have like 10 different kinds so I'm def gonna try more. They have pizza and sandwiches too, it's on my way home from my doc office so I'll update as I try new stuff

We wanted papusas and Comalito came up with spectacular reviews and was open (at time of writing,…read morethey open Fri-Sun)! Food and service were great. Food ordered: Yucca fries on the house! 1. Plantano Fritas (4/5) I love a plantains and these were delicious and less oily than other which I appreciate! Personal preference is a I prefer a little more sweetly caramelized plantains, but I did really enjoy this. The dish comes with a white creamy sauce and a refried bean dip - both yummy and not overpowering in flavor. Papusas: Lots of flavors to choose from! And in general, for all the papusas, the papusa batter is wonderful and the porportion of filling to papusa is perfect. 2a. Calabaza Papusa - mixed cheese + zuchinni (4/5) This was the most cheesey papusa, where the cheese was the heavy lifter. I enjoyed it and every bite had a nice cheese pull too it. I would have liked to see a little more zucchini green, and for it to add to the textures. 2b. Frijol y Queso Papusa - mixed cheese + refried beans (5/5) My favorite! Can't go wrong with a bean and cheese papusa and this was so so good. I recommend this classic pairing of flavors anywhere. I was thinking about this papusa for days. 2c. Chicken Papusa - mixed cheese + chicken (5/5) This was also really good. the chicken is mixed in with the cheese, so every bite has both, which was nice. There was also a lovely seasoning which balanced all the flavors beautifully. 3. Churros: This usually comes with vanilla ice cream, and the server warned us they didn't have any in stock. We were fine with that because we love churros. When we were complete with our papusas, they served us our churros and surprised with apple slices instead of ice cream which was a lovely touch. Parking: There is no designated parking lot that we have found, but the public 2 hour parking lot 2 blocks over on Second Ave! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Comalito. The hardest hurdle is parking, but once you find the public parking lot a couple of blocks over, it was easy to find and gives you a little exercise before you eat! Papusas were all delicious and there is a plenty of seating room. Keep in mind they are open Friday-Sunday only at time of writing.

The spot is full of character and a good amount of seating. The customer service is great. Everyone was so kind. We each ordered 3 pupusas of bean & cheese w/ curtido and some casamiento to share. I also got a side order of carne asada. All the food was good. Everything was full of flavor. The carne asada was tender. The pupusas had the perfect mix beans and cheese, with the masa being light and fluffy. The casamiento with a great mix of rice and beans. The only negative was the curtido. It was ok. Somewhat soggy and not very crisp. Also, lacked any flavor. It's a small thing, but otherwise the dinner was 5 stars.

The issue is that I was definitely pushing it on time if I planned on making my flight. As I was driving here, I had the thought that if there was an annoying parking situation or a line, I would just have to pivot and forego patronizing. But as it turns out, there was one spot available right next to the front door and no one inside. But then when I requested a nitro, the owner (I assume?) was extremely apologetic that their coffee machine broke. I asked for a few alternate types of coffee, but it turned out said machine controlled it all. So we shifted to the pastries. I read on the website that they had something with guava, so I asked for two of those: one for me, one for the wife. He even offered to heat mine up, which I will say yes to 100% of the time. I then jumped back in the car and was back into "don't' miss your flight mode." Of course, when you're in a hurry, you manage to hit every red light along the way, so I was doing a lot of yelling at electricity and God. But then I figured I might as well take the time to try the pastry that I'd originally planned on eating on the plane. As it turns out, it brought me into a nearly immersive experience of zen. The only bad thing is that I devoured it within seconds and then it was merely a thing of the past. My wife is fortunate that I have the amount of integrity that I do because I am sitting on the plane as I write this and I could easily inhale that 2nd pastry with her being none the wiser. If you're reading this, wife, remember that you hit the spousal lottery.
