I love coming here! I usually order the chicharrón con queso pupusas, and they are absolutely delicious. The flavor is amazing, and I totally enjoy them every time I visit. They didn't greet me, they simply asked if I ordered already. I placed my order and was told 30 mins. I sat and waited for my to go order. The establishment is clean and decorated with Salvadoran flags and art. The woman behind the counter muttered something but I couldn't hear her so I asked " perdón" (excuse me?) and she didn't bother to turn around to face me and said they didn't have empanadas. No biggie. They hadn't charged me yet. My order was ready in about 20 mins or so, but to be honest I should have ate it there because when I got my order it was HOT!! But because I was traveling 1.5 hours away it wasn't as hot but still warm when I arrived home. When I went up to pay for my order it was super awkward as the women didn't say a word. I thanked her and walked away with my order. The pupusas are ok, I do like that they aren't greasy but do seem to be heavy on the masa. The curtido and salsa are really good! The yuca con chicharrón was good, the yuca could have used flavor. I usually boil mine with seasoning and then fry it but I notice most restaurants just toss in the frozen yuca to fry. My parents and I nearby and we were craving papusas real bad. Found this place on a whim and it did not disappoint. The parking was tough and the wait was a little long, but the papusas were made by order so I don't mind. A cute little restaurant with lots on the menu and El Salvadorian pride everywhere. My order: We ordered 5 Revueltas (pork, cheese, and fried beans) and 2 extra papusas to go. Both the To-go order and the plates came with curtido and the salsa. Pupusas are first rate; not the best I've ever had but very very good; light, not greasy. Cabbage is a bit too spicy but good. Rice was fine (Salvadoran Mexican, just fyi). I was in Menlo Park for work and had some down time. Zipotes was the solution. The sweet man at the counter told me it was going to be 30 minutes. I got the combo. A sweet milk empanada, a chicken Tamal, and two pork Pupusas. It was worth the wait. Absolutely delicious! I loved everything. The Pupusas were divine. The Tamale had lots of chicken inside and was steamed in a banana leaf then neatly wrapped in parchment paper. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. The sweet milk Empanada had a bar of milk with the consistency of cream cheese. The dough tasted like plantains. It was a perfect side dish to everything else and was unique. My son and I had a hankering for pupusa for lunch today. We usually get take out and have it at home, but its totally different (and much tastier!) to have them freshly prepared and hot off the grill. For the two of us, two revuelta pupusa (pork, beans and cheese) and one order of two pastelitos de carne (fried Salvadorian empanadas) with an ample sides of curtido (slaw) and salsa roja was a fully satisfying weekend lunch. Several hot sauces on the table. Washed down with a Mexican Fanta of course. Very barebones decor with just a Salvadorian flag on the wall. I often go to restaurants outside of my comfort zone and would never ding owner who might roll their eyes some clueless gringo trying to order. I drive by this place regularly. It is a hole in the wall next to a laundromat and a gas station with a big sign out front that says Pupuseria. I am a sucker for pupusas so thought I would give this a try. I had their special which was a mushroom (hongo) pupusa, and also a jalapeño pupusa. They were perfect thickness and cooked well! They came with a bowl of the shredded cabbage and carrots on the side, and a bottle of the red sauce. I'd give the meal a 10/10! read more

This little restaurant serves good food. They have the typical Salvadoran plates. I went for the breakfast - it satisfied my craving. The handmade tortillas were thick and moist. The coffee was good. Also, for nostalgia or if you want to try, they sell Salvadoran snacks. I support local Salvadoran businesses and owners. In the heart of hearts, they're trying and this is how they make their living, and it's not easy these days. The fact that they ask for payment before you get your order is probably because they've been burned many times before and can't afford to lose anymore. read more

I ordered pupusas and the cheese used tasted sour. I ordered the Yuka and chicharrón frito and I only go about 4 pieces of chicharrón. The plántanos fritos were drenched in a lot of oil. Service was great, and ambiance was great too. read more

Don't go here! The only reason I gave it two stars was because of the lady at the register. She was sweet and considerate. I came here to try it out , since I live in the neighborhood. All I ordered was the Pupusas , just one . First it took forever and then I found out they burnt the first one, later on after I finally got my Pupusas and after almost half way through I noticed that they forgot the meat! Had to try Zipotes out, because this place is owned by my coworkers stepmom. It does get busy, make sure you come here without a time restriction. Parking is hard when it's busy, you'll need to hunt for some street parking in the area. Papusas run about $3.50 each in 2020. They are large, 2 filled us up easily. I ordered 4 total. This place is close to my mechanic, think I'll make it part of my routine going here after I fix my car. read more

Alright, so we ordered today & our order was all messed up we made the mistake of not checking our order when we picked it up. We said oh well will eat what we got (2 chicken quesadillas & a regular burrito) we weren't going to wait another hour for takeout - we had originally ordered 8 pupusas. I had a slice of quesadilla but since it was too oily it threw it off for me so I didn't continue to eat & my boyfriend had half of the burrito... Just moments ago my boyfriend is puking his brains out in one of my flower vases! RIP flower vase. My man has an iron stomach when it comes to food he legit has a crazy high metabolism & zero food sensitivity so let me tell you this is FOOD POISONING 100%, he is sweating bullets atm & pale as a ghost! Ok, let's get this out of the way because I read it in other reviews and didn't know what to believe. Yes, it takes forever to get your order. I called and was quoted half an hour, and when I arrived, it still took an additional 20 minutes. But these are handmade pupusas we're talking about - so some slack must be cut. With that said, the pupusas are worth it. They're at least as good as my favorite place in Hayward with a similar cost, and since I live in San Carlos, this is a much more convenient location. I ordered 8 revueltas to be split amongst myself and 2 others who aren't huge pupusa fans. All of us stuffed ourselves with not one, but 2 each (leaving 2 for me for dinner tomorrow - planning ahead pays off) because they were so tasty. The curtido IS spicy, as others have mentioned, but in the best way. It won't burn your face off, but it's enough to give it a kick. It's crunchy, tangy, spicy and fresh, and I was happy to see that they gave us a decent amount. Their red salsa is also super delicious. Price for 8 revueltas was $30 and change, which I think is reasonable, considering 2 can make a filling meal; the price and stomach real estate are comparable to what you might expect if you ordered a burrito instead (but why would you?). Next time, I'll probably order an hour ahead to give them plenty of time to make everything, since I always take my pupusas home to be crisped in a cast iron skillet anyway (highly recommend doing this!). Of note, the restaurant is in a small strip mall, so there is a parking lot. I didn't have any trouble finding parking there at 5pm on a Tuesday, but YMMV. read more

Upgrading from 3 to 4 stars after having a really great breakfast today. The Salvadoran breakfast comes with two eggs (any style), plantains, rice and beans, cheese, and chicken tamales. All were very good. In fact, they were so good that I ordered two more to go. Unfortunately, the ones that were packed did not have plantains (so always good to check items before walking out the door). The corn atole "oatmeal" was too sweet to consume. My prior 3 star rating was based on super slow service... though the food on a prior visit was good overall. This place is better to visit when you have a lot of time on your hands. read more

Really torn on judging this review because the pupusas are so good but I waited 30 minutes for one pupusa and a side of rice. :( Apparently my order somehow got screwed up, but instead of coming to tell me this, after a half hour I had to go up and inquire about my order, and at that time I'm not even sure what the lady was saying but she showed me a rice pupusa saying they mixed up my order. Well, can you just make my order correctly then?? I mean.... :\ The good news is the pupusa was absolutely delicious, soft and very cheesy. The rice was great. White rice with bell pepper. And the better news is she refunded me for the food (minus my bottle of water) so at least she acknowledged the problem and I didn't have to ask for a refund. (4/23/17) Came here again and again and each time I was satisfied. My most recent visit was this year before COVID and again I enjoyed my pupusas. I'm not to thrilled with their curtido it lacks flavor. Pupusa's are a little on the greasy side but that didn't seem to stop me from devouring my two revueltas. This is the only place I know of that makes pupusas in rice dough mhmmm my favorite. You have to ask they don't offer cause it's not common. Took my coworker here. She had never had pupusas before. This is her feedback: since she's vegetarian ( during the week) she would recommend adding more beans to the Beans and Cheese pupusas. The cabbage was okay, it could have had some jalapeños for that extra kick. Perhaps having two types of curtido, one mild and one spicy would be good. The workers here are so warm and friendly! The only thing more comforting was the pupusas. Me and my friends tried a few options of flavors and all of them were great. Most people in the place were also eating pupusas so I can't say how the rest of their menu stacks up. The only thing I wanted more of was vinegar in the curtido and a crispier outside to one of my pupusas. But the owner let me exchange my flat soda for a different one so that part was great.
