I have been going to Esani for various services for the past 20 years. They do facials, waxing, hair colors and cuts. The Paul Mitchell products smell delicious. The students are very nice and the staff is always ready to give them good advice. I go there once a month for color touch ups. They have my personal formula stored in their system, so the color is always consistent. You will need to allow extra time, however, for the price, I totally think it's worth it. read more

I have booked a hair appointment 4 different times. The first 2 times they called a day or two prior to cancel due to student shortage and a school event. The 3rd time they called to cancel exactly 22 minutes before my appointment when I was en route. The lady said we apologize and will give you a 20% discount next time. I was upset but I got over it! FYI texts you 2-3 times prior to confirm your appointment. I ALWAYS confirm. So I had an hair appointment today at 6pm. I walk in at 5:52pm. The front desk lady asked if I had an appointment? I say Yes and show her my text confirmation. So after going to 3-4 other people and me repeating my last name twice.. they tell me that the student I was assigned is gone. I think the students do an excellent job and are very dedicated BUT Place is run as a shit show .. very poor experience with front desk no respect for customer's time ... I have been coming to this location for many years, although not on a regular basis. Given the situation with CoVid though, I was able to schedule a base color and partial highlights with what was supposed to be a Phase II, "almost ready to graduate" student last Wednesday. It has taken me several days to get over the shock at how poorly this person performed. Both Leaders on the floor took over finishing up my hair, shampoo, toner, cut, blowout. The color is nothing near to what I expected nor received in the past. The highlights, which were not matched to what the color was supposed to be, had to be toned down to be somewhat acceptable. The whole experience was disastrous, water leak everywhere, future stylist walking off, can't get over how my hair now looks. Its bad when you see the person a few chairs over who came in with worse looking roots and disheveled hair than you - going out the door with beautiful color and highlights and your hair looks worse than when you first arrived! read more

My hair was cut and styled by Sasha, who is immensely talented. We started with a complete wash (bliss!) and some conditioner. As always, there was an instructor standing by to offer advice and assistance. The down-side: as I was working with a student, this takes longer than a similar cut at an actual salon. The proceedings didn't start until several minutes after the stated time, and signing the release can be a bit off-putting. For $15, this is a great value. read more

Yes, I know these are students, but it shouldn't take 5 HOURS to get my hair colored and cut. The instructor (who was super nice) felt so badly at the end he pitched in to help. Did I mention I was the last guest there? I told them no red but it looks a bit red to me. Thankfully I bought it with Groupon so it wasn't as much. Next time I'll find some place faster to go. If you have natural hair ( african americans ) do not expect much from this place.. everytime I go in for a silk press my hair is not properly straightened unfortunately they are not properly trained on how to do natural hair in my opinion. I had to ask the girl 3 times to blow dry my hair again before she put a flat iron to it. The first time she blow dryer my hair it was still wet and it was not fully dried so as she started straightening my hair literally so much smoke came out..which means that when my hair goes back to its curly state/ natural state I know that part of my head will be heat damaged. Usually when blow drying your hair for a silk press they use the brush to stretch your hair do get the max length.. that was not done & I even tried to explain to the instructor what I was talking about & she kind of brushed what I was saying off. With them not properly blow drying my hair every time they straightened a piece of my hair they literally yanked my ends off when a small comb. I have 4c hair small combs are not made for my hair at all. So with them having to comb out my ends after straightening every piece it took forever to straighten my hair and as I looked on the ground I lost so much hair due to the pulling of my hands to attemp to straighten them.. after them doing all that I still didn't come out with a straightened look. Looked just like how a blow out would look if it was properly done.. they also gave me an uneven cut lol. ALSO I wouldn't even go for color I paid $70 for color in my hair just for it to be completely washed out by the person doing my hair, one of the instructors told the girl to wash the dye out with shampoo as I am heading back to the chair another instructor says "you washed all the color out, you shouldn't have used shampoo" .. haven't been impressed with my last too visits and my color incident happened in January 2020 and then the straightening incident happened in February 2020. read more

I went this week for my hair cut and color. The color was okay but the phase 2 girl did not listen to what I wanted to do with my hair. I even said something about she was pulling out too many pieces of my long hair for bangs, she said that I was wrong and that it looked like more because the hair was wet. Needless to say I now have more bangs than I wanted. I then took my daughter two days later for her appointment. She gets the same thing every time. It usually takes less than two hours. I ended up having to cancel my evening plans for she was taking more than FOUR hours to complete my daughters hair. The teacher even asked her to get help from others and she refused multiple times. Usually we have a great experiences there but this time not so much. read more

My stylist was Larissa a Phase 2 student. Her cutting skills were excellent. Chloe the instructor was amazing. I had to get a super short hairstyle to prepare for surgery I came in with a picture and they made it happen. I am very pleased with the cut, and the instructions in how to duplicate this at home. Tried it this morning and it looks great!!! Thank you ladies!!! I also had an eyebrow wax with Joy. My eyebrows look fantastic, I could not happier with them. I normally do not ever have a bad experience at the school. However the girl that I got (my normal girl Athena graduated :-( ) was pretty bad. The instructor had to hold her hand through my entire service. This would have been a 1 Star had the instructor not done most of my service. Every time the instructor corrected my girl and told her she needed to do it a certain way, Sydney would still do it her way instead. The one time Sydney actually cut my hair, she did it wrong causing me to have to have shorter hair than I wanted. I don't mind the hair but I did NOT want to lose this much length. This girl only cut one piece of my hair and when she did she messed it up. Hope she learns to listen to her teachers or she's going to have a rough go at being a stylist read more

Just got my hair cut and washed here. First time here but after a few recommendations on Nextdoor I thought I'd go for it. Only $15 for what would have gone well over twice that anywhere else. I hadn't had my hair cut in nearly a year so it was just a bit below my lower back. Very good job Ellie. I got to say I was a bit nervous but the end result was so worth it. 5 for the overall experience & on-time (and same-day) appointment 5 for the student cutting my hair - great attitude & care, and the style was exactly as I had requested 5 for the instructor, who was actively observing and made a few adjustments, but was not intrusive. She also had a great attitude and interaction with the students. 4 because it's not /perfectly/ even - but that's OK for my hairstyle which is textured anyway. (Also, this was better than a few haircuts I've had at some fancy salons.) 3 because it did take a while, ~2 hr for a woman's hair cut + special Awapuhi Treatment ** I recommend going on *Mon - Wed*, the less busy days. ** I agree with other reviews - if you want a high-end refined salon experience, this is not for you. Also, be aware that there are people coming and going and all kinds of conversations, music, & general commotion. However, if you are curious about how students learn how to cut hair, your haircut doesn't have to be precise, and you have a little extra time, I would definitely recommend this. The Awapuhi Treatment came with the Groupon, and it was better than I expected. The low price is a bonus. I thought the whole experience was quite interesting, and I will try it again. read more

I have been to Esani before and they were excellent. Great customer service, communication, and experience. However, my last visit was a disaster. I was getting my roots died brown/ black (10% grey) which they over processed and I ended up with orange roots. Considering that I am Asian, this is not natural. However, the instructor explained that the orange roots was my natural color and proceeded to argue with me that it was my fault anyway as I used henna product 6 weeks ago. They finally fixed the problem and my visit lasted 4.5 hours. This is really awful considering that it takes me 30 minutes to dye my roots at home. Due to the time, I did not get a haircut which was part of the groupon deal. When I went to pay at check-out counter, they indicated that I could not use my groupon. I was puzzled as I repeatedly told the student that I had a groupon and she said it was okay. I was charged double the price and told I could not use the groupon. Furthermore, the same instructor told me at check-out that I should have been charged more due to them fixing my color and having to use more product. Why does anyone have to pay extra for someone's mistake at a hair salon? I was tired, didn't want to argue so I paid and left. They ended up letting me use my groupon and then charged me extra for the full amount. It was awful and what a horrible feeling to sit in the chair and be told after someone ruins your hair that there is nothing wrong with orange roots. I am a bit surprised by lack of professionalism and customer service. Truly awful from beginning to end. On a brighter note, the students were nice and one student confirmed that my orange roots were not natural and they probably overused a product. I asked for a tier 2 student but she seemed very uncomfortable with the coloring process and had difficulty answering my questions. I guess that was a clue. She did give me a good blow dry though. When going to Esani, know that it is like throwing the dice. It can be great or absolutely terrible. I will not be going back and will post this on google reviews as well. read more

I have been going to Esani Institute since they opened many years ago, and have always been satisfied up until the last 2-3 services. It seems something has changed in the quality. I normally get a color, cut, and style; I've been having issues with the color and cut lately. The last 3 times I've had to have corrections to the color because the teacher and/or student was NOT LISTENING TO WHAT "I" WANT!!! This last time I ended up getting pink roots with burgundy hair. The teacher waited so long to finally check on what was going on, even though I told them when I called I just wanted the same color from roots to ends; I guess the teacher didn't believe me. :-( Then, when it was time to cut my hair, I showed a picture to the teacher and she cut one side, then the student was so nervous she ended up cutting more on the other side than I wanted; which means I ended up with more hair cut than needed. I've always wanted to help out with students learning, but I think I'll just stick with a wash and style from now on. read more

I was expecting it to take longer but my appt. was at 10:15am and I didn't get finished until 4:00pm. I have shoulder length hair. Came here for a color.. i wanted lighter..and lighter is what I got..but it was like 1/2 a shade lighter.. so after much thought I contacted my student stylist Danielle C. a day later and told her I wanted even more lighter. No attitude at all,but a friendly sure let me see when we can fit you in! So the first time what they did was remove color and add a lighter over all color. My 2nd visit they decided to add highlights to break up the one color and give it more texture:) The teacher said it would be much prettier, and alot less stress on my hair.. I liked Oliva but there was a new product line that had such strong aromas it was hard to breathe. Also missing was basic knowledge of facial muscles and insertion points which are the entire point of a micro current treatment. I went to Esani for a Men's cut and was assigned to a level 1 stylist, which I'm okay with, but she obviously did not understand how to cut a man's hair yet. I wanted to let your school know you ruined my beautiful hair. I made a terrible mistake coming to your facility to request a beachy body wave. My hair came out looking like a bad perm from the 80's. I was clearly disgusted with it immediately and nothing was done to help with correction. Not to mention an epic and uncalled for 6 HOURS at your place of business for a hair service. I mean 6 hours!!!! I have a lot of hair and the poor girl did not roll it right and the instructor took every rod out and made her start over causing her to cry and have to be excused. What a cluster this visit turned out to be! In additional to my immediate dissatisfaction, gobs and gobs of mousse was put into my hair making the look go from worse to just awful and i mean awful. That look reminded me of a shaggy dog. Then I asked for it to be blow dryed and for some reason the poor girl would not blow dry becuse the instructor told her not to. Well Im hear to say for future sakes of the up and coming students "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT" and if they want their hair to be dry and not dripping wet and you don't want to blow dry their hair, give the blow dryer to the customer as requested so they can try to fix the complete damage done to their hair! The kicker is at check out I was clearly upset, no clearly angry and physically trying to pull out the monstrasity made of myself and total ruin of my hair only to be asked how my service was?? Are you blind?? or just an idiot?? The only things you are clearly not teaching your people there is how to relate to the client. 2nd how to listen top them and accommodate what they want not just repeat what was taught to them in a class. 3rd when its clearly bad, offer empathy and try to correct (not that I would have wanted to stay there ANOTHER 6 hours!)what you did. 4 Not do what a client asks for, like DRY their hair for gods sake if they ask. The very last person who could have been taught how to spot a terrible experience and be your last shot/ chance to win them back as potential future clients and you seriously FAILED there. Instead when I didn't answer how my experience was because you could tell by the shear anger on my face i get an attidude from the cashier! Service was 5 days ago and this is the calmest I have been regarding the look I now suffer with. I have an appointment with my full time lady tomorrow in hopes she came heal my hair after this clear shock to it, me, my family and my pets! UGHH.................................................................. Oh what poor poor poor poor experience and a lesson well learned, I will never never sacrifice my hair in this manner to save a buck or two. This was the 3rd time Susan has cut my hair and as always she was very professional, engaging and blended how I would like my hair cut with her giving thoughts about a different approach. Everyone was super friendly, they kept the place neat and orderly, and there was always fun chatter or good music to listen to! The first time I went here, I got my hair dyed, and as it was my first time doing something like that, I was understandably a little nervous - turns out, I didn't need to be. My stylist did a great job then, so when I came back this time, I asked for her again (tho I just did highlights this time).
