The Escape Game Chicago has four room experiences - Art Heist, Gold Rush, Mission to Mars and Prison Break (listed from easiest to most difficult). Each room has a capacity of 8 players. I've done Gold Rush (escaped!) and Mission to Mars (failed - wah!) and each time have been blown away by how intricate and high-tech the setup is. Seriously, this is the most well-done establishment that I've encountered with the props, decor and again, technology. Unique to Escape Game, each room experience actually has 3 rooms that you must access through codes/locks or trap doors, etc. These puzzles/riddles/clues are genuinely interesting and require much thought. This is a fun activity for ALL ages and is a refreshing change of scene. Staff is incredibly friendly. Reserve online - spots fill up fast. If you return, you can get discounts off if you book in a limited time. Come in breathable clothes as you may sweat in the enclosed spaces under pressure! This place was SO fun! I'd been wanting to try one for a long time. My friend and I are in Chicago for our birthdays and since it was raining we needed an indoor activity. This was PERFECT! We did The Heist and finished with our group with 12 minutes left! They will allow up to 8 people, so if your group is smaller you get put in with others. This was our first trip to Chicago(from Arizona) and we booked two rooms at this facility, Gold Rush, and The Heist and managed to fit in a 3rd game Mission: Mars during the same visit on 5/25/17. These games were our 48, 49 and 50 games overall. First, I want to give a big shout out to all the game masters and the host at the front desk. They represented the facility well. The owners should be proud of these employees. I thought about breaking down the review by room but quite frankly each room was done as well as the next. So all my input applies to all the room and if I have something specific about a room, I'll point that out directly. When my family discusses escapes rooms after we play them we think of them with three aspects in mind, Setting, Gameplay, and Mechanics. Each and every rooms setting was very well done. Incredibly immersive to each game. The stories went well with the settings, therefore, making them all highly immersive environments. The props were really well done and there was minimal clutter. The number of people they advertise/recommend in the rooms is 2 - 8, I would not want to do them with 8 people but 4 to 6 would be perfect. All the games had a good story to gameplay connection and while we had some searching to do it wasn't too much. Some of the puzzles were unique and definitely memorable. Goldrush was our favorite of the three, then the Heist, which we played with two young ladies that have never done a room before and then Mission: Mars. Mission: Mars which is a higher tech room. We really needed at least one other person in the Mission: Mars room at a minimum. As far as pet peeves, they managed not to hit any of ours....which are red herrings, having to guess, need for prior knowledge, poor lighting....so great job for not having issues in this area!!!! Overall, we enjoyed the games a great deal. As far as the mechanics go in the rooms/business, they had a good game flow, great hint system, very attentive game masters, no breakdowns (Yay!), great customer service and a great website! We didn't escape the Prison Break! And you know what? That's ok, we had so much fun just doing it! First time doing this, apparently the PB is one of the more difficult challenges. Played the Heist and was great. Very classic "clue style" room. $34/person might feel a bit steep but a great experience and very clever devices. I had been wanting to do an escape room since they first came out with the concept. This weekend I finally went with a group of co-workers. This place is AMAZING. I had more fun in 1 hour then I have had in a while (I know boring life right?). This experiences was far better then I had even imagined. Returned to TEG for the "Gold Rush" installment. This time, I brought along 3 out-of-towners (4 total) who were in Chicago for the marathon. We beat the game with 8+ minutes to spare using only 2 clues. A note to those considering The Escape Game: "Gold Rush" was definitely less difficult than "Prison Break". So, if you've never done an escape game, I would recommend GR before trying PB to get the hang of it. Both games were equally stunning in the set production and are completely immersive. The Escape Game Heist room(s) was impressive, fun clues, and the pace of the game was great! I have been to another company's escape room but this experience was definitely more elevated. Your group is alone in the room and clues or comments are communicated on a tv in the upper corner of the room (as opposed to the other company where an employee stays in the room with you to give clues). The clues were very linear and helped direct the progression of the game. Minus one star for the check-in process. Every person playing has to type in answers on a giant touch screen (so slow!), name, email, zip code, how many times you've played before, and other questions, it was pretty annoying. read more

Awesome escape room experience for my group of 8 colleagues and what a great team building event! We completed "Mission: Mars" right before the time ran out so the puzzles were definitely solvable (we had lots of first timers in my group too). I was blown away by how modern and elaborate the rooms were designed, spacious enough without feeling claustrophobic for a full group of 8 which is the maximum capacity for any room. Place was clean and staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back again to try the other rooms although I think without a full group of 8 heads may make some of these rooms challenging to solve, but hey that's part of the fun after all. read more

Omg I absolutely love this place. Went with the hubby and our 2 best friends on Valentine's Day after making homemade pizza for dinner. We did the Heist and were paired with 2 other couples. What a fun way to end Valentine's Day. The clues were helpful and kept us on our toes. I'm not going to lie, I was skeptical at first about how it would be and we made it out in less than 60 minutes. They offered us gift cards to buy for $27 for our next escape so we basically get 20% off. What an awesome thing. Did the Gold Rush game , escaped. Timed event about an hour. It helps if there is someone young on your team and if people are open minded thinkers. It's basically a bunch of themed logic puzzles. Staff was excellent. We went at 11:00am and they were running late already. If you have a small group you will be merged with another group by staff. Fun experience but pricey Went back and did prison break, very hard, only 20% get through on time . We made it to last lock on last room but couldn't "read" the Braille clue. We found it and all but they need to redesign that piece. It was actually bumps like in real Braille . Made it super difficult. Actually the bumps felt like 3/4 way driven in screws. We chose the "Gold Rush" game (ranked as a 7 of 10 on the difficulty scale) and we were not disappointed. Fantastic puzzles/riddles to reveal clues, open locks and trap doors.
