This place is great fun. I went with a bunch of coworkers for a bonding activity and was placed in the Prison Escape game. It's hilarious to see how your friends, coworkers, and even strangers approach problem-solving. Our prison escape was entertaining, engaging, and difficult... but not to the extent that we felt frustrated or discouraged. The hour flew by and we just barely missed getting out in time. Arguably the funniest part is that, if you don't make it, you get an "I Almost Escaped" bumper sticker. It's adorable, a little pathetic (for me, not for The Escape Game), and makes me smile every time. read more

When comparing price it is on the higher end compared to some of the other escape rooms that I have seen but after experiencing it I can understand the reason why. The amount of props and work that was put into these rooms are pretty top notch and well worth it. If you are tired of going out to the bars and spending over $100 bucks on drinks, give this a shot. Amazing set design !!! Unlike I've ever seen - reminds me of universal studios type set design. (You don't feel like you're just in a room with random stuff everywhere). We went here for a field trip with middle schoolers. Our small group did the Special Ops. Every participant had something to do and at several points you had to depend on a partner to complete a task. The puzzles were really diverse and tactical. My favorite were the available tools and storyline. The story line really brought the set design to life! Highly recommend - well worth the price! The escape room itself was definitely a good size and I feel like the difficulty level was accurate (medium). I did the Mars Escape Room. This is by far THE BEST Escape Room I've ever done! The theme decor and equipment was high quality. A very cool looking, two-level spaceship with a backdoor section! The screens, lights, audio, and challenges are top notch! They set the bar so HIGH that I need every Escape Room company to step their game up! I went back in September to visit a friend that lives in Chicago. It was definitely worth the cost. I felt like a kid again. The detail they put into the spaceship appearance and the different levels of difficulty in challenges is great! We didn't get escape in time, but they were kind to let us see what the end solution would be and what would happen if we were to solve everything. We paid a nice price so it was courteous and professional of them to let us see what would have happened if we won. I played The Heist with a group of friends. We spent the hour together, amicably, tenderly solving each puzzle. Every clue we found only brought us closer together. By the end, as we finally held the missing painting in our hands, we were spiritually bonded to one another with the unbreakable knowledge that we had escaped a room together. Then, I made the mistake of playing Prison Break with the same group of friends. Right from the start, in the ominously accurate prison cells, we were bickering, hungry, and pointing fingers. We forged ahead bravely for a few minutes. But by the five hundredth lock puzzle, we had transformed into an eight-person feudal state. Disgruntled and exploited puzzle-breakers worked their fingers to the bone as sneering friends verbally (and physically) lashed them for their slow pace. With a few minutes before the hour was up and all of our clues used up, we were just about ready to launch a violent civil war using the televisions affixed to each room to bash each other on the head. The speakers sounded loudly, though, and an Escape Game Employee hastily entered to thank us for playing and to invite us to play again. read more

A buddy and I traveled to Chicago for the holidays. While there, we decided to check out an escape room in the area and landed on "Escape Game - Chicago." At first we booked the "Gold Rush" room and had a blast! The puzzles were great, the rooms were immersive and very detailed, and every member of the staff was top tier (special shout out to Julie, Brooklyn, Lila, and the Michaels)! Because we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, we ended up booking and playing all 5 games! I went with my girlfriend on a Friday night and got lucky enough (maybe) to have a room all to ourselves. We decided to try The Heist out since it looked like the most fun. The attendant was very friendly when we entered and kindly showed up how to check in, despite there being noisy children in the lobby. Once our room was ready to go another employee guided us into our room where he explained the rules and showed us a brief introductory video. Once we were locked in and the game began we started looking for clues. I do have to say, the puzzles were cleverly laid out and they definitely weren't easy. We had to put our thinking caps on and concentrate on the mission since we soon realize having more people in the room was an advantage. Since it was just the two of us we struggled a little bit but almost escaped! Oh we were so close! Once the game was over we debriefed in the trendy lobby and were offered a discount if we wanted to book another. Wish we would've but we were short on time. Overall, The Escape Game Chicago was a tremendous experience and would recommend to anyone who lives for challenges and adventures. I am not exaggerating when I say - if there's one thing you do in Chicago, make it this! My friend and I flew from San Diego to this place and it was worth every penny. We tried Mission Mars, Special Ops, and Prison Break and each one was an incredible and unique experience. I've done over 10 rooms in San Diego and LA, and these rooms are at another level. They are decorated perfectly, incredibly high tech, and immersive. You feel like you're really escaping. Most escape rooms borrow similar clues and puzzles from each other, but all of these rooms felt completely unique, with things I had never seen before. You almost can't focus on escaping because you're so amazed at the sets. 25 stars to this place. We had 3 different game masters for our games, so I don't remember any specific names but each person was incredibly nice and helpful when we needed hints. Can't wait to come back and finish the other 2 rooms! Advice: if it's your first time, don't start with Mission Mars. It is so incredibly fun and high tech, but if you don't know what to look for in escape rooms you could be a little lost at first. Try a more "traditional" room first! Edit: don't max out your rooms. Ideal escape room teams are 4 people, and 4-6 works well. 8 gets a little crowded and each person gets less involved. read more

I cannot say enough good things about The Escape Game Chicago! My 13 year old son and I booked the Mars Room during a short trip to the city last Friday, and were the only ones there on a winter morning. The staff was welcoming, professional and friendly, and got us started right away. I love that this place offers unlimited hints, and they clarified first HOW we would like hints - only on request, or also when they noticed us struggling. We said to hint whenever, and the hints they gave us throughout the game were just helpful enough to poke us in the right direction without taking the joy of discovery away from us. The Mars room was great for two people - it's pretty linear so we worked together to solve all the puzzles. We've done a few other rooms in other places, and these puzzles seemed more creative than most - not repeating the same kind over and over again. The room was really immersive and intense (but not scary), with multiple rooms and lots of audio and visual elements. Once we finished, we actually left the building, walked down the block, and then impulsively went BACK to try another room (plus you get 40% off for doing a second room!). We loved the Gold Rush room even more - very cool world-building, awesome visuals, incredibly creative puzzles, multiple rooms, challenging enough but also solvable for the two of us. The best part of our experience was by far the wonderful staff - they were so kind and enthusiastic, and they even made me a cup of coffee when I mentioned being under-caffeinated - I honestly could have cried with gratitude the moment the timer stopped on the room and the door popped open to a staffer holding out a mug and offering me a "coffee break." We were visiting for my son's birthday and they made a very big deal of it - he has told everyone we've seen since then about it! read more

I'll put up this review with some details, but without any spoilers. I have been a participant in two escape rooms (succesfully completed both) and run several out of my classroom for my 13-14 year old students. This Prison Break Room was great. The puzzles were a little challenging, some of the clues/pieces carried from the game's beginning to its end, and the immersive atmosphere was really well done. We were a group of 4 in one cell (2 forty y.o., 1 20 y.o., 1 19 y.o.) and were paired with a group of 4 20-something y.o. guys we did not know who started in the other cell. We were fortunate enough to be paired with another group who were also cooperative, good at seeing details, and recognizing clues. The prison break game could be very frustrating if you get an uncooperative group or a group who struggles with puzzles because the groups must work together for the duration of the game - especially to escape your cells at the game's start. If you need a challenge, this is the most challenging escape set up I've yet seen. We were able to escape with 4 seconds remaining. read more

I've done several escape games before in other cities but this was top on the list as far as fun and challenge. Though my mini team didn't beat the clock we still won and came out so connected and strong. Joined up with a group of 12 to work on communication and team building. It is best to come 10-15 before your start time. Everyone is given a tablet to enter their personal info and pick what game you'd prefer to play if it wasn't chosen beforehand. Just a few helpful hints: 1- Do work together but break away - different minds equal creative solutions, maybe even multiples. 2- There is no such thing as over communication - do it an do it OFTEN. 3- Don't be scared to use time for a tip - the more your struggle you lose time anyway. This is a great activity for co-workers, families or friends. It is not about the clock and winning but the intangible goodness that comes from working on a singular goal! Walk in with the best intentions, and open mind, and in good spirits and all will be well and I promise you'll leave smiling. read more

We did Mission to Mars and for you escape house veterans I want to say one thing... Not one single padlock! There were no combination locks or directional locks at all. This was very refreshing as most escape rooms use a bunch of these to lock drawers and cabinets. The room is totally immersive and designed very well. I think 8 people is a little too tight, 6 would be better. Overall this is in my top 3 of escape rooms. read more

This was so fun that we booked another one for the next morning! We did Heist first and then Prison Break. Both were challenging and very entertaining (although Prison was more challenging). We beat Heist with 7.5 minutes to spare and ALMOST beat Prison Break (we were on the last clue). The game masters both times were super helpful with clues and everyone working there was super friendly :) Check-in and booking online was also fast and easy. This was my first time doing a escape-type game room; I was hesitant thinking the game itself would be obsolete--or extremely hard. The "Heist" took on a historical depiction of painting burglars and spun it into something interactive, fun, and engaging. We were a group of 4, which we were melded with another group of 4: a young family, parents, two children. We all worked as a group, amicably, and got through the puzzle with 8 minutes remaining; we accidentally, or ingeniously, skipped over a part of the puzzle--which the employee, who was great, congratulated us. Came here for a company team building outing and had so much fun! This is my second escape room so I knew what to expect going in. We took Ubers here because parking is definitely a hassle and expensive in this area. The store front looked very small, so is the waiting area. After everyone signed in we were split into 2 groups and my group was in prison break (8/10 difficulty). The game host was very welcome and explained everything well and made us feel comfortable. The game was so much fun, I'd say it's much harder than my first escape room experience. We ended up using all 3 clues and got out with a few more minutes left to go. There were a couple other companies here at the same time and we couldn't really hear anything from other game rooms so that's good. Glad we were able to work together and escape! I came here with some friends for a birthday party, and it went well. The game was enjoyable (although for our party of 8, the Spy Game room was a bit too small - probably better capped at 5 or 6, if everyone is a good friend). There were some technical problems, but the staff was absolutely delightful and compassionate and worked their hardest to get it up and running again. It's also worth noting that every staff member was ridiculously attractive, so waiting and chatting with them was no skin off my back. *fans self* I'd give the experience of the game 4 stars and the staff professionalness 5 stars. I did find one thing deeply 1-star annoying: When you sign up, they ask you to send a waiver, and tell you that filling out the online waiver ahead of time makes things easier. Within the terms and conditions, the waiver declares your consent for email marketing. There's no way to opt out at that point. If you refuse to consent to email marketing, you can fill it out at the facility and it will let you not put in your email. However, then you get home and find out that just by signing up, you've already been added to a digital marketing list. I removed myself from it, but it's pretty infuriating that you're consenting to being advertised at just by registering online...which is the only way you can register if you want a specific time. So, guys, cut out your nonconsensual digital marketing signups. Include a checkbox that said, "I'd love to hear about deals or specials" or something like that. So, average out, 3.3 stars. I'll round up to 4. I'd probably do it again if I were asked, although I would see if I could Ron Swanson it up and go in person and pay with gold bullion or something so they can't assume I'm interested in their eMarketing. read more
