Stopped by for some food before the Brewers game and after touring the Harley Museum. The food was good - tried the cheese curds as an appetizer, The Bomb (burger wrapped in pizza dough), and the fried meatloaf. The cheese curds were good, though not my fave but we did eat them all. The Bomb was delicious. The burger inside was even cooked to the correct medium temp, the dough was tasty, and the flavors blended well. The fried meatloaf was a new on for me and was done well, but ended up being a little heavy for me. The root beer was good. Did a flight of beers and asked the waiter to pick some of their faves with a mix of light/dark and they were all good. Tried a taster of the PB&J beer - you could taste the flavors and it finished well but would be better with ice cream as a float than drinking as a pint. Drove up from Chicago to catch a show. Arrived around 3pm the show didn't start until 7pm. My friend and I were taken care of as if we were family! Great food, great Beer, and best of all fantastic service! We stayed for 3 hours all the while laughing and joking with our waiter. This is a great addition to the Pritzlaff building. The beer selection is large so there were some hits (Cream City Crusher) and a few misses (Toasted Coconut). Our group of 4 tried 12 beers and liked the majority of the offerings. I like that you get to select the items for the flights yourself so it is totally customizable. The food was average. My kitchen and waffles was good but the quesadilla burger and cheese curds were meh. Next time, I will stick to beer and apps. read more

Tried the Explorium/Third Ward for the first time today for lunch. The restaurant/brew pub is in an old refurbished cream brick building. They have firepits on an outdoor patio, a large, covered outdoor bar and seating area, and a large loft-like space with the brewing area, tables and a large bar with seating along an open window area facing Saint Paul Avenue. Music from the 70's/80's played, not too loudly. Service was friendly and efficient. I tried the ontap Porter which was excellent. Spouse had a brandy old fashioned which he rated as 'near the top' of his experience. Amazingly, the drinks were only $6. Whoever is in the kitchen here is definitely a keeper. I had one of the best Rueben sandwiches I've ever had with thick tasty slices of corned beef, and adequate kraut and dressing on real marble rye bread that was crisp and toasty. The fries were perfect-crisp outside and soft inside. Spouse had the fish and chips. Two large chunks of cod were beer battered and fried perfectly and served with the same excellent fries. He was not much impressed with the cole slaw which was pretty limp and was served in a 3 oz metal cup that was only half full. The tartar sauce tasted mostly of mayo, so could be a bit better. We were really impressed with the space, service and food and will definitely return. read more

Only reason I give this place a 3 star rating is the temperature of the area past the bar--- shared table near the door to outside deck or porch area is freezing. We are visiting from out of town and tried this local eatery. Atmosphere was nice, staff was friendly, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The porter I tried was excellent and reasonably priced. Overall the was above average and everyone seemed pleased with their meal. I had the Rueben with mashed potatoes and a bowl of beer cheese soup. The food was good, but nothing blew me away. The sandwich was properly toasted, but could have used more sauerkraut and dressing, the potatoes weren't especially hot, and the soup was nice and hot, but could have used a bit more flavor. I'm torn. I used to really enjoy Explorium but recently, the food has just been okay and the prices keep raising. Maybe just a few off nights and I will still continue to visit. One of my go to orders is the BLAT, because that has consistently stayed good. I wish there was happy hour options. However, one thing that hasn't changed is the staff. Stopped in over the weekend and planned on having dinner here. When we checked in with the hostess, we were told it would be 45 minutes to an hour, and that would be for a "tunnel" spot. Ummmm, I have no idea what that meant but do not really care to sit at a tunnel. We ended up getting a seat at the bar where we sat for at least 30 minutes and not 1 person acknowledged us. We had a party of 8 adults. Service was very slow even though the establishment wasn't particularly busy. Drinks were overly sweet - margarita, old fashioned, and even the Manhattan was loaded with cherry juice and everything else loaded with simple syrup. Food was pretty basic - not bad but not impressive. But we were hungry and we did clear our plates. Atmosphere is nice, but cleanliness was not a priority - sticky table as we sat down. Hard to give this place even one star. Place was almost empty, food order took almost 40 min and it was all pretty awful. Pizza soggy, lobster roll was off-putting, truffle fries had too much truffle oil to even eat. Tunnel seating area had a smell like the day after on Bourbon Street. The south ridge location was the first place I tried after moving to Milwaukee. The food is always exceptional! The staff of the new third world location exceeded my expectations today - with the bucks in the NBA Finals, I wanted to be downtown to watch without being in the craziness of deer district. I messaged about reservations, fully expecting it to be first come, first served, but they set a prime spot for us. The hoppy pilsner might be one of the best pilsners I've ever had. Not too light but still gives you the fresh crisp taste you want in a pilz. We sat at the outside bar, the place is massive and cool inside too. The owner and staff were super friendly and were great about recommendations (which we needed as out of towners). Super close to the Milwaukee public market, definitely worth stopping by for a beer! read more

What a place! Beer lovers paradise. I sampled six different beers and they were all amazing. I was a little shocked actually. The food was very high quality as well. I had the chicken pasta and my fiancé has the salmon. Service was very good, could have been a little quicker to get to things but it was a busy night. I have visited Explorium in the Third Ward twice now and enjoyed my experience overall. I would suggest going for drinks, but not to eat. The beers are fairly good, and I particularly liked their fruitier beers. The prices are very moderate for a tap room in downtown Milwaukee. However, the food is subpar and somewhat overly priced for the quality. I got the pizza and it wasn't great. I wouldn't recommend eating there, unless you're just getting appetizers. The outside area is cool as well, as there are fireplaces. If you're looking for a casual happy hour for a few beers, I would recommend visiting Explorium in the Third Ward. read more

Food was okay. Meat on the Nashville chicken sandwich was pounded too thin - only could taste breading. Pretzel was very good - the beer cheese not so much. It tasted like doctored up nacho cheese sauce you get on nachos at the ballpark. Burger was above average and seasoned well. Service was slow. Also they served an alcoholic hard-root beer to a non-drinking party member. It was sent back when it tasted like "chemical". But at least they admitted their error but offered nothing else for what could have been a potentially very bad situation had the party member kept drinking the alcoholic root beer (medical reasons). read more

We ordered carnitas tacos and the cubano, and both were dry and relatively tasteless. Maybe too much time under the heat lamp? We came in around lunch time and our server was not attentive or kind to our table, as someone who works as a server I usually give them the benefit of the doubt but she was not doing her job the way she should have which was disappointing. First we order drinks and it take's literally 15 minutes for everything to come out and the drinks weren't even right. Then we ordered our food and it took an hour and a half to come out, for reference we came at 12 and our food didn't come out until 1:30 pm and our server said it was because there's only one cook, feel bad for him. Anyways the food comes out and it wasn't made as requested. For example I ordered my sandwich without tomato and avocado and got both and my friend ordered her burger which was supposed to have no tomato in general and bacon and she got it with tomato and no bacon. Other than the messed up orders food was good but not worth waiting the hour lol. I've never wrote a review but I feel like I should touch on this place, i'm young and even I can tell when service is bad. A really cool environment - I went there for a combination birthday/bachelorette party and we had a GREAT time! The cauliflower was incredibly spicy but delicious, and we didn't love the Crocus Lager, but all the entrees were delicious and just a little spicy.
