My first but not last Wrestlemania watch
    Jen O.

I've been in town for the past week with a family emergency, and my days have been full of hospital time and running around town. The timing of this landed on me away from my community and husband for Easter-while I'm not a big celebrator of the holiday, being alone and the one with all the responsibilities sucks. I've been trying to find places to just unplug from the day: a harder feat, I'm a non drinking vegetarian. In the beer and meat city. Enter Pete's Pub: I messaged to see if they were open, and being as thin skinned as I am at this moment, said why I was in town. They expressed empathy, said they were open fully stocked with NA beer. Score! I came in after my day and was delighted to grab a table, Athletic Brewing Company Golden, a mushroom sandwich (Fun Guy) with house made chips, onion dip and fried pickled green beans (hey, when you only eat hotel breakfast and dinner because life, you'd order an appetizer too. And I've been here over a week, hitting the fried every once in awhile.) Fun Guy: amazing. Creamy, veggie full, great bread. I'm a spice freak so would have liked a bit of spice, but my stomach was grateful I didn't nuke it one night. The chips and onion dip: omg I would come back just for this. Creamy and oniony, salty and CRUNCHY. The fried pickled green beans with ranch were interesting, to the point I was full AF and I couldn't stop eating them because it was such a fun flavor combo. Truly, one of the best bars I've been to in Milwaukee: add in Wrestlemania and incredible vibes, friendly AF (and sincere) staff, and you have a major win.

    big beef with Cole slaw

Loved it! Big Beef burger - this thing is huge, even for my hungry keto stomach. Even sans buns, I could only eat half. Smoked brisket is pork brisket, looks like ham, but with great taste. Don't expect beef brisket. Side of Cole slaw (instead of fries) with the burger was a bigger portion than the side of Cole slaw that comes with fish fries Fish fries - one big piece of haddock (very similar to cod. Personally not my favorite fish), with great breading. And tons of fries. No skimpy portions business here. Mushy peas - looks exactly like guacamole. It's mashed peas with butter and fat, so very savory. Sounds "mushy" but it's quite delightful! cheese curds - perfectly fried, with garlic flavor in the breading. Overall on the saltier side, but great with beer. Get a beer. Service was great, pleasant. Server was Chris (per receipt) and he was working alone, so seemed busy (though we were literally the only ones in there at 11:30 on Friday... with a few more customers coming in later, but the place didn't get bustling by the time we left). But as busy as he seemed, he still got everything right and crossed all the t's. I love it when we are taken care of so well! Thank you!

Popped in during HD fest weekend, which was also Harley fest on Brady Street. Needless to say, the street was packed, as were all the bars on it! To our surprise though, service was still nice and speedy inside Pete's Pub.  The group of us ordered a handful of drinks, from tap beers to seltzers. It's bar service only, but it was still easy enough to order. In true day-drinking fashion, we needed some food to offset. My husband and I split two dishes - the burrata ravioli (omg I could have eaten three orders of this deliciousness), and the hen solo chicken sammie. I've heard (and read on Yelp) many good things about this sandwich and the people weren't kidding, it was tasty! And massive. Like this breaded and fried chicken thigh was the size of my face I swear. The pickle chips and honey on top... chefs kiss. Pub food can be hit or miss, but this one is a solid spot for good grub. Thanks, Pete!

Not much better than a British-style Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry!
    Angie O.

Quite possibly the best fish & chips I've had outside of England! I have been wanting to check out Pete's Pub ever since I learned the owner was British (it was hearsay but that's my kind of positive news!). I had seen reviews about the Friday "English Style" fish and chips and was finally about to experience it for myself. However, I am going to detail my experience in chronological order: I arrived relatively early (5:30/6ish) and, surprisingly, there were many available parking spots. Parking restrictions had already ended, which always puts an extra little spring in my step. There were a few patrons sitting at scatters tables and booths and a few sitting at the bar. We chose to sit at the bar (although that is never my favorite as I am short and always feel like the entire space ratio is off for me to be comfortable eating a proper meal. But I digress... There were several employees at the bar that greeted us and were very friendly. Our primary server was great! He offered excellent suggestions regarding beers on tap, was just the right amount of chatty, played a Britney Spears song for me (I was having a rough day/week/month), and there just so happened to be a rep for the in-house "rail" liquor (which above and beyond the sterotypical rail liquor) so we had some samples of various flavors! I already knew I wanted fish and chips (only served on Friday), and my husband opted for one of the specialty burgers. Fish and chips with mushy peas: Well, it wouldn't have mattered if it was bad because there was a tiny little Union Jack flag that 100% made my entire day ;) However, I was SO HAPPY that it was just as good as I anticipated. Better even. The fish was meaty and light, the breading was fantastic. Fries were seasoned (i.e., totally not British style lol). There was a delicious roll and sides of malt vinegar (yay!), ketchup (yay!), and tartar sauce (not a fan, in general). Mushy peas had perfect texture for me but they were a bit too salty (also, not British - they don't salt anything). They still had some slightly whole peas in the mix; I'm not a fan of the pea puree, and were not fall-off-the-fork mushy. The specialty burger (I cannot recall the exact one my husband ordered, but I tried a few bites) was fantastic - meaty, good flavor, cooked to perfection! I will 100% be returning to try other menu items. Hopefully on days other than Friday because Friday will be devoted to fish & chips!!

I'll be honest, I was surprised when I typed "fish fry" into Yelp and the first place that popped up was Pete's Pub, I had heard of this joint on Brady before but hadn't quite made it for a meal yet. And compared to some other Friday fish fry spots in the area I was skeptical, however everything we had at Pete's was fantastic and worth the hype! I ordered the tossed shrimp in the peri-peri dry rub and they were fantastic! My husband was going to do the fish sandwich but than was convinced to do the hen solo sandwich which did not disappoint! We shared bites of our meals and both concluded that this was BOMB! I know the hubby and I will be back for another casual but delish meal with Pete's pub. We also ran into fellow Yelp friends which is ALWAYS a treat - you know it's good when that happens!

    Hulk Smash! Burger

4.5 stars. Wild times! I came here with a coworker after an event Friday night. Despite how crazy the snow storm was, parking was insane. 99% sure I parked illegally and just never got a ticket. We sat the bar. The vibes were super chill and felt more upscale in many ways than you'd expect from a typical pub. Yet another reason to love Milwaukee. Per my coworker's cultural nudging I got a Spotted Cow (FUN!!) and a Hulk Smash! Burger ($16) with cheese, pork belly, fried egg, onions, pickle chips, lettuce, tomato, and Brady St. Sauce on a brioche bun. SOOO good!! The fries were spicy and delicious too. Next time I'll apparently need to do a Fish Fry. Already sold on Pete's Pub for late night goodness.

Me and the boss decided to try new places in work area, and we have been on a sort of smash burger mission. Pete's came up as a smash burger contender, so we headed over. The server/bartender was friendly, and it seemed like she was known in the neighborhood by the locals. I couldn't pass up the English style fish fry. Boss man ordered the single smash patty. The fish was piping hot and the batter was crispy and light. The fish was haddock as well, and I prefer that over cod. Fries are a hand cut variety. The coleslaw was OK and I think I would get the mushy peas next time. Boss man enjoyed the smash burger and would order it again. They have an array of quality tap beers, and that is a win in my book. A good overall experience , and a neighborhood addition for Brady St. that fits right.

Very good food. Quick . Service was awesome. Couldn't of been a better experience. I am from out of town . But will try to get back .

No table service so order at the bar
    Greg B.

I wanted to stop at Pete's Pub because they have two burritos on their brunch menu that both sounded interesting. Since I had recently had chorizo in a dish somewhere else, I passed on the Beef Chorizo burrito and instead ordered the Country Chicken burrito. The brunch menu says the burrito was "smothered" in sausage gravy, which somehow was an understatement. The burrito was more swimming in an ocean of sausage gravy than just smothered by it. Unfortunately, I didn't love the flavor of the gravy so I used it sparingly after I was able to push most of it off to the side. The bits of sausage in the gravy were small. The burrito itself was huge, which was one of its better qualities. The chicken inside was a little dry and maybe fried a touch too long, the eggs got lost in the flavor of the gravy, and the "potato" was actually seasoned fries, not fried potato pieces or hashbrowns. I didn't necessarily think that was a bad thing. I do want to go back at some point to try their amazing looking cheeseburger and cheese curds. I don't know if I would go back for brunch. All of the TVs had one of two different European football (soccer) matches on. I assume this is a regular thing because there were people there with jerseys on supporting one of the teams. Seems like it would be a good spot to watch some games if you can't see them elsewhere. There is no table service so sit wherever you want and order food/drinks over at the bar.

    Joanna E.

This was the first spot my boyfriend and I ate at in milwaukee. The service was great. Our bartender Jim, was extremely helpful, kind and attentive. We ordered the cheese curds, a double smash burger and Buffalo wings. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance, they also had a pool table and other games for good entertainment. On top of that the food prices were very reasonable. The ambience was very relaxed & overall we would rate the food 8/10.

No sure why it took so long to write a review of Pete's but here goes nothing. We love Pete's. This is as happening a spot as it can be on Brady St., with some of the coolest wait staff one could ever happen upon, including the one and only Faridah! We love Pete's for the solid food and spot on service. Pete's is a perfect spot to come grab a beer or cocktail and they are even better for watching all things Wisconsin sports! We just watched the noon Bucks game this past weekend and enjoyed Pete's incredible brunch. The must have is the Fun Guy burrito! Packed with all the goodies of the Fun Guy sandwich, then drenched in garlic parmesan sauce, this burrito is seriously no joke! Order it with the breakfast potatoes on the side and it's a perfect meal to split. Another favorite is the specialty smash burger night on Thursday where they whip up a couple different burgers each week. I'll post pics of food next time. Till then, hard to beat Pete's!

They were so buttery and crispy, and the cheese pulls rivaled those of the Chili's mozzarella sticks! Very tasty sauce (hot honey garlic, at Thomas' recommendation) that wasn't overdone or underdone - just the right amount. I usually get my wings naked because so many places go wrong with the amount of sauce (usually just too drenched), but since we were on a timeline tonight, we just ordered without asking for anything else. So glad we did! By the way, not fried wings, so not super crunchy on the outside but still crispy and not at all soggy. And super moist, perfect temp inside. I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.
