Everything was fine until a person tries to get an understanding of the final bill. Dr. Brian Foster did my exam and confirmed I had cataracts so appointments were scheduled for the left and right eye. At that point their financial counselor informs me under my insurance coverage, the deductible is $225 for each visit and I would be responsible for the anesthesia costs. Okay, try to figure out who and how much the anesthesia is going to be turned out to be a stupid circular exercise in futility. If a procedure is scheduled, how would I know as the patient, who the provider would be and how many units of anesthesia it would require. After multiple phone calls to the Eye Associates Patient Center, it rolls into voicemail with a message stating a return call would occur in (48) hours. No return call. Left yet again another message, no return call. I finally get in touch with a very nice woman who did provide the company and phone number for their contracted anesthesia services. I call that number and their voicemail says they do not provide information on the costs of their services. I reach out to Aetna Explorer PPO and they have no information submitted on the procedure. Keep in mind this has then been multiple, multiple calls, still no information on what the final bill would be YET the patient is responsible for all of those potential future bills. While I was perfectly comfortable paying $225 for each of the surgery center visits, it is crazy to push "back" on the patient the costs and responsibility of anesthesia without providing any details. So I cancelled my procedures given this level of patient support before the procedure, I could only imagine how pathetic it would be after the procedure if there were any issues. I do not recommend using Eye Associates - while their physicians may be qualified, the support staff is truly lacking. read more

Let me start by saying, my experience was not the fault of my eye doctor, but the company that supplied the VITITY lenses. In my case, "the best of the best." Several years ago I was told I was of the age I needed to have cataract surgery done. I was apprehensive as anyone would be having someone cut into their eye(s). After the cataract surgery, I was in constant pain and discomfort. Broken blood vessels, months on steroid drops, ice & hot packs, etc., and now dealing with the worst dry eye syndrome anyone could ever imagine. I would never be able to have any kind of clarity in my vision ever again. My doctor tried and tried but after 10 months finally stated, there was nothing more he could do. The lenses were "faulty." And my night vision was a collaboration of shooting light beams in every direction. (which I never had before.) My vision was permanently damaged and I would never have any kind of clarity again. I live with that every day of my life. (And yes, I wear glasses. But I was told they can only provide me with so much correction. Any more than that, it works against me.) read more

The practice is expensive and the office practices are not good. I had a post surgery issue, called and never received a call back. Then I had a surgical followup and was sent to an office an hour away, which was an error as the appointment was supposed to be elsewhere. Then the appointment was rescheduled with me standing there and when I showed up for the rescheduled appointment, they had no record of it. read more

The last three visits at this office in Port Charlotte were terrible. I did express my dislike the wait each time but that was ignored. The of the wait times which exceed an hour; 40 minutes in outer waiting room and another 30+ getting drops and waiting for doctor. They open at 8 and my appointment was at 9 so there is no excuse for this. This was a post op visit so I am guessing they were already paid for this at time of procedure. Fortunately for me, they are not the only game in town so I will not be back. read more

Had a referral from my PCP for an opthalmologist. During my appointment, I was frustrated because I felt the doctor wasn't evaluating me for the reason I was there. I went home and did some research. It turned out he was an optometrist, which is why he treated me the way he did. He probably assumed I was just there for a routine exam and a prescription for eyeglasses, even though I tried to talk about my frustrating condition. When I called the office to discuss this, I was told the only difference between their optometrists and ophthalmologists is that the latter performs surgery. That's a ridiculous response. She said she would have an opthalmologist call me, but I have not received a call and I've since received a bill for an additional $70 in addition to the $50 co-pay which I already paid. I did not ask to see an optometrist. read more

The optometrist and ophthalmologists are fantastic. However, their office staff clearly have difficulty managing appointments at least at the Bradenton office. My appointment was scheduled for 3:20. I am still sitting here in the secondary waiting room at 5pm and I was just told there are 3 patients ahead of me!!!! Patients' time is just as valuable as doctors' time. read more

Be sure to review the costs with them, especially those not covered by insurance. I had a problem with them charging me for something not covered. They never told me that a certain procedure was not covered by insurance but went ahead with it anyway without asking my permission. This happened last August at the Ellenton location.. A few months later I received a statement saying I had an unpaid balance. I called the Ellenton office and was told the insurance didn't pay for one of the procedures. I contacted the headquarters via email twice and mailed a good old fashioned letter and never had a response. I telephoned the headquarters and after waiting on hold for more than an hour was told that I had signed a document saying I would pay what the insurance would not. I requested a copy of it and was told I would get it in the mail within a week. I never received it. Then a got a letter from a collection agency! I Then went to the The Ellenton office where the exam was done and asked for a copy of all my records. Surprise!!! No signed document! Now why didn't they offer to send me this document when I made the first call??? I would have paid the balance and that would have been the end of it. Something isn't right. read more

Most unprofessional Eye Clinic / Office I have ever experienced. I went specifically for The Optomap. It's like a cat scan of your eye in layers front to back. No more dialating the eyes. Not at Eye Associates. This is a money making business in every way. Kids just out of high school are everywhere doing vision test and telling me I have to have my eyes dilated, running machine for test I understand. Doctor has to see to the back of the eye? Are you kidding me. That's what Optomap is for. Is this about another fee For dialating? And I have to sign a form so Doctor(not medical) can decide if I can wear contacts And pay a fee for that when I've been wearing contacts for 50 years, I refused. Last thing before I left they finally did Optomap and had me leave. Never looked at the scan.No dress code here. Dresses way too short. Can this company afford to buy white jackets? No name tags? It just goes on. BIG BUSINESS BIG MONEY Not in our best Interest at all. This is our EYES, OUR EYE SIGHT, OUR EYE HEALTH. Not recommended at all. This I a great place for eye problems. Even though they were sooo busy I was in and out in a little over 90 minutes. The staff was great and very accommodating especially Gina. She took all my information and told me what was going to happen when I went in for my surgery. All of the technicians and nurses were right there when I needed an answer. Even with some grumpy people I never heard any of the staff loose their patience. GREAT JOB!!! read more

So far I've had a terrible experience here. I scheduled an appointment back in July, & told I could come in July 26th, but then I received an immediate call back saying that Medicare patients need to be scheduled 1st, so could I come on August 26th instead. I am experiencing night blindness and really desperate to remedy the issue(if possible) but, I exercised patience, the scheduler was lovely. I arrived to my appointment on 8/26 10 mins early, but wasn't actually seen until an hour later. No apology, but I was still being patient. It was an odd experience where a doctor and someone else, ran me through the exact same ("which is better #1 or #2 test) and then they checked with each other to make sure they'd come to the same conclusion on my Rx. It was odd & exhausting, but I figured better a double eye exam, than an incorrect Rx.... The doctor ordered contacts and said they'd be in in a few days for me to try. About a week and a half later I called to see if they'd arrived and was (not very nicely) told they take 2 WEEKS to come in and one of them is on back order. It's now been over two weeks. I sent an email asking what's going on and saying even if the contacts aren't in, perhaps I could get fitted for glasses?? And, crickets. I mean, I've never experienced anything like this from a "professional" doctor's office before. I'm terribly disappointed and still can't see at night:-( read more

I have been going here for my annual eye exam since 2015. I am a diabetic and have a couple of unusual eye conditions that make it difficult to get proper lenses. Medicare pays for the medical side but the patient pays for the refraction, in this case $58. While administering the test, the technician was rushing me. She did not really give me time for my eyes to focus. But, at the time, I didn't question it. I had my prescription filled at my regular eyeglass store. When I picked up my new glasses, I was told to look at the sign across the street, which I did. When I got home, I found that when I looked at something like my kitchen counter it looked like it sloped at a 45degree angle. Sometimes it takes a day or 2 to get my eyes to adjust to new lenses. But this persisted. I was very upset and decided it was not worth the fight to go back to Eye Associates. I had paid the $58 for the refraction and if they couldn't take the time to get it right the first time, why would I think they would get it right the second time. I made an appointment with an optometrist who gave me a new prescription and the eyeglasses were remade. I paid the optometrist out of, pocket of course, but there was no charge for the new lenses. Eye Associates did not give me what I paid for. Today, I took a friend to Eye Associates for a screening for cataracts and glaucoma. An optometrist referred my friend to Eye Associates after a regular eye exam and new glasses. When I made the appointment, I told them that the exam was just done and the only thing needed was the medical screening which is paid by Medicare. The refraction is an out of pocket charge. When we went to check in, I told the receptionist what was needed and she informed me that their office required that they do the refraction. I said, we are not paying for another refraction when one was just done. She informed that that was their office policy. I informed her that that was not acceptable and that we were leaving and that I would no longer be their patient as well. I have contacted a practice of ophthalmologists for an appointment for my annual exam. In my opinion, Eye Associates is concerned more about money than proper medical care. As a senior and with Medicare and a supplement, I do not mind paying for what insurance doesn't pay. However, I don't expect to have to pay twice just because the technician can't take the time to get it right. There is absolutely no excuse for the poor treatment that I received. I did not expect my friend to have to pay twice for the same test as well. I would no longer recommend Eye Associates. read more

Dr. Berger has my vote of confidence and then some. To say that my husband experienced a very unusual eye injury would be putting it mildly. While out boating, a person's cap came flying off while they were on a plane, where upon the visor struck my husband's eye perfectly causing him to drop. His eye was started bleeding immediately causing him not to be able to see. This was late Sunday afternoon. After a quick examine of him myself, he and I decided to wait until Monday morning to see if we could get an emergency exam by a physician at Eye Associates. I would not have generally gone a long with that, however he convinced me he could wait. First chance I had Monday morning, I called and after explaining the situation to the office, they were able to get him in immediately. Upon exam, Dr. Berger noted he had a retinal laceration that required immediate laser surgery to repair. If we had waited any longer, it was probable that he would have had some vision loss. Now, we all know that upon exam, it was hard to believe that the visor on a hat could cause such an injury, trust me it did and all we can say is it was a freak accident! Thank you, Dr. Berger for being there for my husband. We can't save enough about you and Eye Associates, you never disappoint. read more

Took my dad to have his second cataract removed. They did the surgery yesterday. Told him to be back at their center at 7am to have the eye inspected and checked. Well we were told by one of the employees that the center will not be open until 8:30am. No notice to their patients what's so ever. A line is building outside the building. I would highly recommend you not use this company. They are the most miss managed and money hungry company. Their pockets are more important than their patients health. Very piss poor company. I wish there was a score of a negative number. Update. An hour after we were told to be here. A nurse at the door checked his eye pressure and sent him on his way. He was suppose to see his doctor. No doctor to be found. We get half way home and we get a call saying the eye pressure is too high. So we had to drive all the way back. The receptionist who called apologized and stated that with the new CDC guidelines, this is the service they are able to provide. My fathers patient coordinator had no clue of all the changes. So does the CDC say you have to give poor service? NO!!! That is a choice made by the eye associates!!! read more

This company does not even deserve a star. This has truly been one of the worst job experiences I have ever had! I am so relieved to no longer be part of such a toxic and negative work environment! Management is extremely unprofessional and biased towards you. They play favoritism towards their "pet" employees. The coworkers act nice to your face but then act like snakes and are quick to throw you under the bus to impress management. There is no sense of teamwork. If you are new and don't fit into their "click" of people you will be very miserable and depressed. You will be misled constantly by others and make mistakes because of this and get blamed to the point where it leads to unfair termination. There is no opportunity for learning or growth in this company. You will get mistreated, verbally and physically abused as they seem to think it is permissible to be subjected to violence by others. Pure cruelty and evil there! They are all a bunch of snakes and need to get a taste of their own venom and bad karma in return for their wickedness and pure lies!! They will accuse you of not doing things that you know you did while their "pet" employees are the negligent ones and seem to get away with it! You will be ridiculed and embarrassed by management in front of others and they will follow in that pattern in their mistreatment towards you. Always keep track of everything you do and do NOT trust anyone in there! Do not think for a moment that if you had a previous discussion about an issue with the charge nurse that that will be the end of it and it's resolved. She will report to management behind your back and throw you under the bus. Their goal is to recruit new people for them to bully and eventually kick out of their company with unfair termination and say "Good riddance" to you despite all your hard work and dedication to improve. They only have biased minds towards you and no appreciation for your positive qualities. Good riddance to you all at The Eye Associate!! This outfit is on my insurance list of approved vendors. Supposedly my eye exam is covered 100% according to my insurance. However, this outfit emailed me a bunch of medical forms to complete online prior to my appointment and buried on about page 5 is a statement that there is some additional procedure that is mandatory for the eye exam, but it is not covered by insurance. That charge would be $58 and you cannot have an eye exam without this bogus additional charge that insurance does not cover. This was not disclosed at the time I made the appointment. I am not bending over to pay more for a routine eye exam that is supposed to be covered 100% by insurance. As far as I am concerned, this is just a way to pad out a bill with an unwanted add on that is not covered by insurance for a routine eye exam. They are also blowing out my phone with a bunch of automated texts and I DID NOT EVER GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO TEXT ME. They can blow up your phone with texts, but good luck actually getting a person to cancel the appointment after seeing this bogus charge. This rating is for Optical Center. Recently my husband underwent cataract surgery. Everyone was wonderful till the final post surgery prescription for eyeglasses. We were turned away because the optical dept. stated that they do not accept our insurance we were out of network. Come to fined out we were in network, but no effort was taken to get the authorization from insurance company by the optical associate. So we had to go somewhere ells. I feel the job was not 100% completed. read more

I was very nervous about my appointment on June 2nd due to the coronavirus but they assured me that they are taking less people so there won't be waiting around in the waiting room. They also ask that you wear a mask .......the Dr. also would wear one. When I got there they took my temperature and asked me health questions. They directed me to a seat in a room with another patient. I sat there with a hot mask on for 50 minutes and they never called me. I felt so unsafe! I asked if they forgot about me and it turns out they did. A girl said they forgot to check me in.....after they took my temperature and asked me questions??? They didn't even care. Needless to say, I left in tears. Totally unsafe......the opposite of what they tell you about precautions. I went home and made an appointment with another eye doctor........I will never give my business to a business that has no regard for my safety. read more

A SERIOUS PROBLEM With a prescription from The Eye Associates in Sarasota, I ordered new prism lenses through their Optical Gallery on 4/11/2014. The lenses arrived on 4/29. Although ground correctly, they were not properly measured or fitted by the optical technician. Initially, my vision improved but I was soon experiencing problems that I attributed to a longer than expected adjustment period. But over time, after stumbling, falling and driving with high levels of anxiety, I decided my vision was rapidly deteriorating. So, after two unproductive visits with my Gallery representative and my inability to get a near term doctor's appointment, I visited Dan Schmidt, a referral and a highly respected optician. He carefully analyzed my glasses and found that they were improperly fitted and that the mechanical measurement (the measurement of optical centers related to the pupil centers) was wrong. In addition to noting this on the prescription form, he also suggested the correction. This error caused me weeks of discomfort and unnecessary risk and was unquestionably caused by the technician. On 12/18/2014, I wrote a letter to the owners of The Eye Associates (who also own the Gallery) and requested a refund; which was granted on 1/7/2015. Soon thereafter, I met with the Gallery Operations Director, a Master Optician herself. She confirmed the mistake, apologized and stated "errors do occur". Great! Although the problem was resolved to my satisfaction, I have no intention of ever returning to the Optical Gallery when I know I can receive careful, professional and incredibly conscientious service at Soto Opticians (Hillview location) owned by Dan Schmidt. read more
