This is one of the worst experiences I've had as a customer to any service. I have a 4 month old puppy and our first experience, several week ago was fine. We had a doctor evaluation and a vaccination. It went well though I was kept in waiting for a long time -- but didn't think much of it. A second follow up appointment was this morning, 3 weeks later. I come in, my puppy is calm and relaxed. We had just spent the weekend with new people and a new dog (our parents) and he did just fine: no barking, no fear, no issues whatsoever. He's never had any negative reaction to anybody or any other dog. The assistant comes out while I was waiting and quickly takes the puppy out of my arms and rushes him into the back room. I ask if they need me to help or anything (since he's a puppy and this is all new to him!!). They said, "no, they aren't allowed." I ask why I was present the last time they vaccinated him, and they said, "Oh that was a doctors appointment." This was news to me -- that I wouldn't be able to sit next to him during it. This is surprising since I'm allowed to be next to my human child when he's vaccinated! So, I sit in the waiting room, and soon enough I hear crying and a yelp. The crying and yelping increase in loudness... it starts getting bad. Fascinatingly, her priority was to charge me while my dog was yelping (so I'm going through the motions of paying for the visit, which is very hard to do while listening to your puppy cry). I ask the front desk if they need me to help. She goes in the back to ask. An assistant comes out and explains to me that they haven't even started the shot yet and that the dog is trying to bite them. I tell them he's just a puppy and is probably terrified. The doctor (presumably) comes out and explains to me that they're trying to put a MUZZLE on the dog and that "I won't put my staff in danger." When I reminder he it's a puppy and that he was fine the last time I was in and that maybe he just needs me to be there to calm him down -- she explains to me that the dog will need socialization and that he's dangerous. And that "maybe I should find a different place." It blows my mind that she thought my tiny little 5.7 lb puppy was DANGEROUS! She says, "well maybe we can try with you but the second he opens his mouth we're done." At this point, I've had an enough and tell her I'm going to find somewhere else. This was beyond frustrating. I'm a NEW puppy owner -- never had one before. I'm trying my best -- as far as I can tell, my puppy is fine. We have people coming to the house all the time. He meets with other dogs just fine. He's non-reactive on walks (absolutely NOT reactive). He's already house trained! He knows tons of commands already having only had him for 3 weeks -- "sit", "crate", "water", "outside", and we even trained him to push a button (we're trying to teach him buttons for words). The issue is the dog simply was terrified and they made it far worse by forcing him -- and trying to PUT A MUZZLE ON HIM. He's never seen a muzzle in his life... of course he's going to freak out. This was traumatizing to both me and my puppy. This place SUCKS. read more

My dogs and cat have been established at this clinic for several years. My experience with this clinic shows that they lack compassion, they lack professionalism, and they lack the knowledge and expertise required of their station. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because 1-star ratings lack credibility, and I want you to take this review seriously, and to take your pets somewhere else. For example, when my dog was in a medical emergency, in which both his vision and his life were on the line, the only thing I asked of The Family Pet, who had seen him three days earlier, was to make four outgoing calls on his behalf in order for me to schedule an emergency appointment with a specialist. That is the ONLY thing I asked of them. William at the front desk literally told me, with my dog in the middle of a medical emergency, and with my dog's vision in immediate jeopardy, "We only have the time to make one outgoing call for you. We're too busy to help." I begged. He literally said, "I can't." I said, "Please do your best," and instead of promising to do his best, he put his energy into making excuses as to why the clinic's overwhelming level of business justified his lack of compassion, abysmally poor customer service, and outright neglect of a patient experiencing a medical emergency. So, that is the kind of compassion and quality of care you can expect from this clinic: they will put more energy into justifying their lack of helpfulness than they will put into creating solutions. I should also note, my dog had seen the vet 3 days prior to this incident. He had stage 5 cancer, and the veterinarian didn't notice. She gave a dying dog a clean bill of health and a recommendation to see an ophthalmologist. So, in addition to the quality of customer service, you can also expect clinicians who confuse having a medical degree with having a certificate from the dog training academy. For the sake of your pets who deserve MUCH BETTER, please choose a better clinic. read more

The family pet is great! My dog mouse is a rescue and we're coming up on his 1 year gotcha date and I've had one other vet clinic experience with mouse but the family pet has always been so much more help and that is the reason why we keep coming back. Dr Krzmarzick is Mouse's regular vet and she is so sweet and always checks in on mouse a couple days after our appointment to make sure he's doing ok. Their advice is always backed up by reason and what they think will be best for mouse. He's finally come out of his shell and everyone at the family pet is always patient with him. Their safety protocols are excellent as well. You just pull up into a parking spot and call the front desk and they send someone to meet you at your car and grab your pet from you and drop offs are the same way. Yikes! Not a good experience. I feel they care more about proving and being right than learning and being curious. Not even sure where to begin. If you care about your pet, maybe skip this place. Brought my dog in for an ear infection late Friday. Was told the ear looks inflamed but that she is fine. Sunday morning puss and tears started coming from my dog's eye on the same side of the bad ear. Monday morning I called and emailed the Family Pet and asked if they could get me in free of charge as I had just paid $200 and I felt the vet may have dropped the ball here. My pet was in a lot of distress even though we had just been at the vet and were told that she's fine. They made no effort or allowance to get me in. Received an email saying: much could happen from Friday to Monday, could my pet have hit her eye on something?, they could definitely not see my pet free of charge for a "new issue", the ear and eye are not connected (huh?), and that in the photo my pet's eye looks fine.... the email kept reiterating that this is a "new issue", which felt passive aggressive to me. Seems like they don't care about retaining clients- the lack of vets paired with the abundance of pets in the area allow for unacceptable "care". I have been with The Family Pet for a few years now and I wish I had written this review sooner! I have taken my boys to a previous vet and had just the worst experience with them...I won't go into details because this review is about The Family Pet and not them. =) I don't have a specific vet my boys have seen as they usually see who is available. But no matter who they see, they are always given the best care. Prior to COVID, I would be in the room with them and would see first-hand just how caring the vets and techs were. When COVID hit and they didn't allow owners into the facility, I was not worried one bit about the level of care my boys would receive. Why the 5 stars? I have two stories to share: First is my black and tan mini Doxie, Guinness. My boy came in for a regular check up and during this check up, one of the vets rightly diagnosed a heart murmur. It was the FAINTEST heart murmur, but she caught it. We took him to the cardiologist upon her recommend and even that doctor was surprised she was able to hear it because it was so faint. But because we caught it super early, we are able to monitor and track its progression and manage it so he will have a long, happy, life. Second is my longhaired mini doxie, Whisky (yes, there's a name trend). I had brought him into the vet because he wasn't eating and he was having accidents in the house (something he does not do). They rightly caught that he needed emergency vet services and advised me to take him to the emergency vet right away. On my 15 min drive there, they already had made the call to the ER to give them the full run down of what they detected as well as what history they had available on him. I was able to hand him off and that night the ER told me just how close we were to losing him. They kept him for 5 nights to get him back to a stable place. Those are two horrific stories that ended happy because of how sharp and quick the vets are at this place. I would've easily lost both my boys (and painfully for them) if it wasn't for The Family Pet. The front desk is always nice and considerate and are quick to relay questions I have to the vet and get me answers quickly. They always work to problem solve with me if I need help with something. I seriously would not trust my boys with any other vet and I will continue to refer others to them until I'm blue in the face. Thank you, Family Pet! read more

We've been going to The Family Pet for years, but we won't be back. Over the years the staff has been condescending to us, increasingly treating our questions and our dog as a burden. The prices have been sky high, and they tack on additional charges for any possible test or question. Any other vet would be cheaper and treat you better. We've had poor experiences with the vet techs -- our dog came back severely bruised with no explanation after a routine procedure and our questions about it were met with hostility. When we've spoken to the front desk staff we've been dismissed and talked down to. The vets themselves are kind -- but they're always rushed and we never saw the same one twice. We've gone to The Family Pet for many years but things have changed in the past few years and we're with a different clinic now. Our cat had a regular checkup at The Family Pet and we were told that she *had* to get 2 teeth removed, and it should be scheduled as soon as possible - and she possibly needed up to 4 more teeth removed in addition to the 2. They gave us an estimate for the work to remove 2-6 teeth. We had to sign and put down a deposit if we wanted to make an appointment for the surgery. We were encouraged to do that soon - appointments were filling up and they let us know that our cat's dental situation seemed borderline urgent, best to act now, etc. We got a second opinion at another clinic. So glad we did. They did a thorough oral exam and were puzzled by the Family Pet's findings. They said she needed a teeth cleaning but otherwise all of her teeth seemed sound. The vet said that dental X-rays during the cleaning appointment would confirm that, and if they discovered otherwise, which can sometimes happen (extractions needed), they'd be in touch. We went ahead and did the dental cleaning and X-rays with them - all teeth are solid. No extractions were needed. The difference between "your pet *must* have at least 2 teeth removed" and "your pet's teeth are probably OK, but we'll check" is significant. I've read a bit about cat teeth extractions in the meantime. It's not uncommon, but no one wants their pet to go through surgery and pain if they don't have to. A word about the front desk people at The Family Pet. I think they're nice and courteous but have a hard time returning voicemails. I found that the best strategy was to go to the clinic in-person to get questions answered or to reschedule appointments. read more

While my experiences with The Family Pet pre-pandemic were efficient and pleasant, sadly, this vet clinic has been going downhill for the last two years. As others have said, they are bad with emergencies, and they really don't interface well at all when you've had to take your pet to other clinics. Our dog began having seizures over the summer, and since Family Pet is closed for three days of the week, I had to use a local emergency vet. When I got back to Family Pet, the doctor I saw said she could easily refill the seizure medication for us, however this past week has proven anything but. I called in for a refill on Tuesday, telling the receptionist that I only have a few days left of medication. Receptionist said "no problem," but then phoned me back hours later trying to sign me up to some fulfillment service they use, when my original prescription was something I could take to any local pharmacy. When I said I preferred to fill it myself, I was told I'd be provided with a paper prescription. Two days later, I get sent an email at 3pm in the afternoon, asking who issued the original prescription. THIS IS INFO I GAVE AND DISCUSSSED WITH THEIR VET WHEN I SAW THEM IN PERSON. Another day later, and all they can say is that they are still waiting. Now I have to go see the emergency vet and pay extra to them to get a same day refill. Very much considering moving the dog to a different vet clinic for her main care. read more

Worst Vet experience EVER!!! I do NOT Recommend going here. We've gone to this Vet off and on for Years and are saddened and More than disappointed in the "Service" they provided the last time we were there. They wouldn't touch my 16 year old 3 legged dog because they were afraid he would bite them, therefore nothing was done. No tests, no Nothing. The Vet made my dog back off the Vet table onto the floor and didn't even want to pick him up since I couldn't reach him. He was hurt even More than he already was!!! No nail trim, no Nothing except for preaching euthanasia to me the entire time. I have worked with animals my entire life and know what it takes to handle a dog or animal that bites. My dog has never broken the skin, but bites at you when you try to clean his eyes etc. they have Mussels, bite gloves etc. but wouldn't touch my 16 year old SMALL 3 legged dog!! . I recently worked with a Vet where I was made privy to how much Vet services Really Cost and this "Family Pet" is Drastically taking advantage of their clients!! I still paid for that appointment in FULL. And nothing was done. Nothing except further injury to my dog!! Shouldn't they be refunding me at the VERY LEAST??? Nooo!! I get scolded for using a swear word and felt threatened by me saying "am I going to have to come down there and have this conversation in person since you won't respond to my emails" WoW!!!! They finally respond and scold me for my emails. And tell me the the Vet is saying that I am Lying!!! WHAT??? They said tha my 16year old dog "JUMPED" Off the table and I just sat there. Or, hey, just let your support staff keep doing what they are doing and drive all of your customers away. I'm sure there are TONS of customers/potential customers hoping to be treated to terrible customer service by their local vet's office. Huge untapped market. Huge. Unacceptably poor customer service. 0/5 stars. Would not return. After more than 5 years here, I will be finding an alternative vet - one closer to home and better reviewed. It looks like I have plenty of options (particularly on the better reviewed front). Things to be aware of prior to booking here: 1) appointment availability is poor - when I called first thing this morning, for example, they had exactly one appointment. 2) punitive scheduling policies: if you show up 10 minutes late they will refuse to see you no exceptions, no excuses, PERIOD. Without even checking with the vet. It doesn't matter if this is the first time you've been late in over 5 years and traffic was terrible. 3) generally unpleasant non-vet staff. 4) YOU will wait in the waiting room forever. They will never wait for you. Between time spent waiting in the waiting room and time spent waiting in the exam room, I cannot recall a time that we've waited less than 10 minutes for an appointment to start. When we most recently picked up our dog following a surgery, we waited over half an hour in the waiting room for him to be brought to us. This was in spite of them knowing when we were coming - near the end of their business day. If you choose the family pet, I wish you and your pet luck. Vet technicians and Veterinarians are kind, attentive, and we've always felt they truly cared about the well being of our pets. We are recently dealing with a very sick cat that is under their care. The veterinarian was thorough in explaining what was going on with our cat AND what next steps and options we have on our plate. She also has been taking the time to call and update me throughout the day about the status of my pet. While this is an extremely difficult time for my family, they've made this process easier with their care and excellent practice. This place is an absolute mess and a racket. I had hoped after expressing in a lengthy email all of my frustrations and concerns with this place that some kind of outreach or correction would be made. Sadly, it's been radio silence, so let me tell you my sordid tale in hopes you can avoid this business like the plague. And a quick TL;DR for those of you who might not want to venture into the lengths of this review, may I suggest visiting Elliott Bay Animal Hospital, where they have been some of the most accommodating, stellar folks in the Greater Seattle Area to me and my cat. Yelp has a character limit, so this is not going to be as thorough as I'd like. So here are the low-lights of this awful hell-hole of a place. 1. When I called to schedule an appointment, I was placed on hold for 7.5 minutes before a member of the staff returned to the phone. Clearly they forgot they put me on hold, because the first thing they asked was "Have you been helped yet?" 2. When I expressed my cat could be hostile with strangers and asked if there was anything they could give to help keep her calm, they tried to upsell me on a pheromone spray that cost $15. They had nothing they could administer without a fee. 3. The vet didn't actually touch my cat during the visit. She dictated what she wanted me to do with her -- put her on the scale, pull her gums back, can you get her mouth open? I paid $35 (the discounted referral rate) just to have her tell me what I already knew. She offered no new insights or knowledge. 4. The vet suggested that we administer my cat's vaccines and do the yearly blood work during her dental cleaning, due to her hostility. When I go to reception to pay for the day's appointment and schedule an upcoming, I asked if they could also send me a quote for the dental cleaning. The woman didn't know my cat needed a dental cleaning, which confuses me because she *should* be able to see the notes the vet typed while our appointment took place to determine what services I need next, right? Wrong. I had to reiterate the entire conclusion of the appointment to her. It took twenty minutes. 5. I received a quote for the dental cleaning. $1,000~ for just a base cleaning and x-rays. Upper range is $2,100. I just want to say that VCA Magnolia was $800 for the cleaning and Elliott Bay Animal Hospital does it for $600, which I thought was high, but this place takes the cake. Quote was missing all of the additional services I requested, so I emailed them to ask them to requote. This request involved a lengthy unnecessary phone call. Received it several days later. Quote increased by $250. 6. Arrival for the dental cleaning on 8/27. Dropped my cat off at 7:30AM. Was told they didn't know where she was in queue for surgery, but assured me they would call me prior to let me know the status/plan. Quote I had to sign off on was higher than the quote they emailed me. Now the low end is $1,500. High end was $2,500. Deceptive, but I agreed. 7. Called the vet around 2PM as I had not heard from them all day. Spoke to someone who said my cat was just coming out of surgery but was still a bit sedated. A vet would call me shortly to share what services were rendered and pick up time. I was pretty upset, but agreed to wait. 8. Ten minutes later I received a call from a different person at the clinic. They informed me that my cat did NOT have surgery done and that no services were rendered that day. That there would be no charge and that for my "inconvenience" they could offer me a $50 credit for my next visit. They also told me to come pick up my cat right away. This person implied that I was a liar when I told her I just spoke to someone who informed me otherwise. 9. When I came to pick up my cat, their manager came out to speak to me, and insinuated that the mild inconveniences of coordinating meetings/transportation/parking to accommodate THEIR drop off and pick up times could be reimbursed if I provided receipts. They also implied that additional credits could be possible, but that they'd have to discuss it with upper management. I took my cat home and heard nothing from them. 10. Sent them a lengthy email on 9/3 detailing my experience above. No one has contacted me since. I will never suggest anyone bring their cat or their business here. They do not care about you. They over charge. And they have poor customer service to boot. read more

This place is such a racket. No matter if we have a recurring problem with our pet or need just a heartworm refill or standard shots, they require a $50+ office visit. I'm tired of paying this when she just needs weighed for the proper heart-worm prescription refill or something straightforward like that. We recently had to take our pet to the ER, and they texted to 'check in' on her (even though we took her to Blue Pearl and they let TFP know). At first I thought, "oh how nice, they care." Tried to get me to euthanize my dog then gave my dog a medicine that almost killed her. Most unethical vet I'ver ever encountered. The list of complaints is too long and upsetting to detail. The best summary is that critical test results were withheld from me. One of my dogs was prescribed a medication that the lab stated on the results page would be dangerous to the welfare of the pet. This nearly cost me my dog. There were other serious issues and my other dog was left projectile vomiting post a simple vaccine... One of the greatest regrets of my life was bringing my dogs here. Oh and after leaving with dogs sicker than they arrived, got the largest vet bills I had ever received. read more

Not what it used to be. Our dog has been a patient here for almost 5 years, but when we brought her in Blenheim profusely after an injury...they just said "we don't take walk-ins." One attendant didn't even look up. No offer to at least stop the bleeding and we had to ask twice where they would recommend we take our injured pet. Our cat has been a patient here for years and came in recently with a stress UTI after a new addition (puppy) to the house. The Family Pet was able to see him immediately, and after all the tests and medications he received, our bill was very reasonable. We also brought our new puppy in for a checkup, and Dr. Hillmoe was so sweet and wonderful with our puppy. Bowie was very calm and seemed to enjoy being at the vet. She spent a decent amount of time with us giving him a very thorough checkup. I don't recommend the pet teeth cleaning offer. Dropped off our cat early today for her teeth cleaning service. Was second in line at the time, estimated a one hour wait from staff. Waited for 90 minutes, got no phone call, so returned and was told there had been two customers ("one with three cats"), in front of our cat. I saw the signup sheet upon arriving, there was no such situation on it. It's pretty silly they can't just schedule these appointments for a set time, and worse that they can't keep track of the order of the queue. It was another 90 minutes before I got the call that our cat was done. In three hours time, they had determined they couldn't clean our cat's teeth. Including the time beforehand to sedate her per their recco, I've managed to consume four hours of my day stressing out my dear cat (+ have her suffer the indignity of being repeatedly referred to as a "he" by the cat dentist). Leaving two stars instead of one since my wife apparently had positive experiences with these people in the past. read more

We are long time clients of the Family Pet, many thousands of dollars spent over many years, and we were quite happy until recently. It seems like their service and way of doing business have changed for the worse. 4 visits in the past 6 weeks, all routine stuff - check up, vaccine boosters, etc. All four visit have taken at least two hours, with the longest taking three hours. I was told by their office manager that given COVID protocols this is standard and that clients should generally go home and then come back when called. We live a bit farther away though, so it doesn't make sense for us. It's a long time to wait in your car. My last visit was for a couple of vaccine boosters for a new puppy. The dog had been examined 2.5 weeks prior by the Family Pet and was fine. On drop off I stated that the dog was healthy, no issues. The vet called me and asked about the puppies health, told me which vaccines it would get, suggested a beef and rice food when I related that it was a mildly picky eater, and worked a little at selling me a highly profitable expensive flea/wormer combo medication. When billing time came, I was charged more the $200. This price included a vet visit, and a $30 nail trim that I didn't request and wasn't asked about. My groomer does this for $8, so I would have said no. What's more, the amount they trimmed of the ends of the puppy's nails was laughable - maybe 1/32 of an inch. He didn't need his nails trimmed. Our healthy puppy needed simple vaccine boosters. At a "show up and wait" practice like Urban Animal this would have cost 1/3 the Family Pet price. At a shot clinic it would have been 1/4. Both would have been faster, and the puppy's health outcome would have been exactly the same. I was told by the office manager that I should have been informed of the price of everything by the vet during the consult. In all four visits in the past 6 weeks we did not hear anything about prices from any of the vets. I did complain, and was offered a $10 credit for future vet care and a complementary nail trim, which to me doesn't read like a serious response. Lastly, on this past visit I asked the vet on the phone what the puppies weight was. She told me 13lbs (I'm converting from kilos). I told her he'd been 20lbs recently. She said no, this dog sure looks like 13lbs. I asked her to please have the vet techs weigh him again. On the receipt for his visit he was then listed at 20lbs. Even though I had to ask twice, I appreciate the puppy being reweighed. I do though have pause about the sloppy first weighing that the vet seemed certain was correct. Let's imagine the puppy had been sick, and needed medication. The weight they assigned to him was grossly undermeasured, and they would have then given him the incorrect dosage of most medications. I'm sure the Family Pet would agree that slipshod weighing is medically unacceptable. Everyone at the Family Pet is really very nice. And I think they are generally highly competent, smart, compassionate animal healthcare providers. At this point though I'm going to do my routine care through Urban Vet and the Petco immunization clinic, and save my Family Pet big bucks for when my pets have significant health issues. read more

I have been coming to The Family Pet for over three years. When I first moved to Seattle (from the East Coast), I had to find a vet for my two small dogs. My dogs are...difficult. My small chihuahua/pinscher mix is loud, greedy, and hates people (he's my special guy and I love him, but I'm not gonna pretend he isn't a jerk). Even during routine check ups the staff and vets work with my difficult dog on socialization. I remember our first visit, when a tech got on the floor and spent at least 15 minutes trying to give my terrified/angry dog a treat. I have consistently felt that The Family Pet cares about each dog that comes in. Due to personality issues, my dogs can't visit a non-professional boarder (like Rover, etc.). And because of health issues (in addition to being a jerk, he is also pretty delicate), my dogs have to stay at a boarding place with medical facilities. The Family Pet has proven to be a haven for my dogs and their particular needs. I have boarded my dogs there regularly since 2016 and I have been perfectly happy with their service. I will go a few months between boarding sessions and the staff recognizes my dogs and knows their names. My dogs are excited to see the staff - something that is particularly impressive considering their usual human hatred. Availability has always been great. The only time booking can be a bit tricky is around the holidays - but I doubt that can be avoided. There are occasional minor issues, but I don't expect perfection. Regarding price: this is a medical facility first, and I expect to pay a premium so that my dogs have immediate access to medical care if necessary. I have never felt that their medical appointments were outrageously expensive - especially for the area. Also, during medical visits the vets have been knowledgeable and paid personal attention to my concerns. Difficult Dog had a fatty lump, and the vet spent time explaining the condition and what expenses were likely necessary or unnecessary. The best thing I have to say about The Family Pet is that I feel comfortable when I leave my dogs there. I will continue to choose The Family Pet because my dogs love it there and they love my dogs. read more

Pros: the vet is nice and seems to really love animals. Cons: I feel they try to upsell me with extras and everything is crazy expensive. In the past they wanted over $800 to spay my 8 lb dog (it was ~$120 at the spay and neuter clinic and they did a great job) and had quoted me over $2k for a teeth cleaning for my older dog. The vet missed a giant lump growing on my dog's side during his exam, so when she called to discuss I asked her to look into it but she never looped back with me. I asked the tech about it when I picked up my dogs (I stayed in the car per covid guidelines so didn't get to talk to the vet in person) and the tech just said if the vet was concerned she would have said something. I really wanted to know what's happening to him :( Kind of feel like I wasted my money and will need to take him elsewhere to get a thorough exam. read more

Worst. Care. Ever. Maybe the worst interpersonal experience as well. Went in for full exam for our older pet. Thought the exam went OK but realized after they took him back for his shots the Vet had not examined our dog's teeth. Pointed this out to the tech and she said the vet would look at them. We were told the time for our visit was up. I insisted his teeth be examined. The vet did not come out and look at his teeth with us, instead looked at them in the back while he got his shots. Then another tech came out with a scribbled note that 4 of his teeth were bad and need to be extracted. I asked to talk to the vet for explanation and was again told our time was up. Very upsetting news. Period. When I objected and insisted the vet explain this to us, the vet tech got mad and said I was out of line. I was asking for what I paid for, $225 for a full exam. I said how important our dog is to us, all I had asked for was a full exam and started to cry. Then she laughed at us. My husband said she was out of line for laughing. Really should have caught this exchange on tape, me crying because she just gave me a note saying our dog needs to have 4 teeth pulled and her laughing at me. We waited 30 minutes and the vet never came to talk to us. She was hiding in the back. We left never to return. Sad as I have used this vet for our pets ever since I was 5 years old. Over 60 years. I've had terrific experiences with The Family Pet. Once when another nearby vet couldn't determine an ongoing problem my golden retriever Leo was having the Family Pet ran more tests and found the right medication that cleared up the problem quickly. Recently when I took Leo in to deal with another issue, they were very clear about the treatment options and gave sound advice (didn't steer me to spend more than necessary). I've taken my two cats here before and was happy with the service. I had horrible service from Jet City Veterinarian before when my 17 yo cat had diabetes. What I like is that there is dental care with no anesthesia. It's quite a bit cheaper and safer. This was in 2018. Now I am considering taking my two new cats (After my 2 17 yo's passed). The one thing that I am concerned about is reading the new reviews that make me a bit nervous because it doesn't sound like service is the same there now that the previous owner or associate left. It is the utmost important to be listened to and treated with respect.. especially if you're paying high prices comparatively and that people are dealing with covid and tough times. My black cat Sparticus is on the from page above when I typed in The Family Pet on Yelp. He's the black cat with the big head and copper eyes, and is labeled Black Cat's Matter Too!!". We've been going to The Family Pet for years and years, but in the last few, something has changed. Their prices are crazy high now. We get all of the expensive tests they recommend and still no resolution for our pets' issues. Last time we got a ton of labs done and no one contacted us with the results. No e-mail or phone call. They also keep contradicting themselves. We get told something is fine from one FP vet, then see another vet there and are told "no, that is bad." Also, the vets don't seem to believe in holistic options as every solution is a drug or a prescription food. A couple of them got really pissy when I was asking why holistic options aren't a potential solution for autoimmune issues. I also wanted to ask one of them why so many cats have autoimmune and kidney issues these days (all the drugs and vaccines that are pushed might contribute?), but she cut me off on the phone call. They really heavily push drugs, prescription diets (I thought dry kibble contributes to kidney issues too, so why do they push it? kickbacks?), and every test under the sun. I understand vets have to make money, and so many clinics are now owned by corporations... so maybe this one got bought out too, because they just push stuff constantly that they likely get a percentage of. In the old days, they didn't push these things and seemed more open-minded about holistic and simpler solutions. We are definitely finding a new vet. read more

All of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and Dr. Nevins has been very helpful answering all of our questions about our new puppy.
