I agree with other Yelpers, this is a good spot for tacos and other authentic Mexican food. The short story: I enjoyed an excellent chorizo taco and a filling but bland chicken burrito. It was busy at lunchtime, and the four employees were giving it their best shot. Patrons were helping bus the tables so they have a place to sit down. That's Fort Wayne politeness, doncha think? Being a single and no place to sit, I get my order to go. The burrito was on special for $5.99 so I gave it a try. The predominant flavor was... sour cream and rice. The chicken was tender but completely bland, no flavor or seasoning. I realize I'm nitpicking here for my six buck burrito, but the fillings were not distributed evenly either, so as I get a mouthful of rice in one bite, then sour cream in the next, and so on. It's as if the ingredients were in their own tiny burrito sac inside the larger tortilla. Oh well. It's fresh, it's independent, and it's local, so I'll give it another try sometime. read more

They even have a drive through! The tacos were fantastic though and I had the carnitas which were very tender and juicy. I added some of their homemade hot sauce and it was perfect. Birria is a soup and I got three tacos to dip in the Birria and a spoon to finish off the rest of the soup once the tacos were gone. The Birria was soooooo good. I have had this same meal in San Antonio, Texas and it was the exact same taste. I think they need to make this a permeant item on the menu. They do tacos authentic. I thought i was getting the 2 taco special it was supposed to be 6.19 and i ask for lettuce tomatoes and onions which makes it supreme ended up being 10 extra bucks , which i didn't know until i went to pick them up. At this point in the game most (both the chain and claimed "authentic") Mexican restaurants all taste same - mediocre at best. The Famous Taco finally puts that stigma to bed. The street tacos here are insanely good loaded with flavorful and properly seasoned meats (pastor, steak, carnitas, lengua, barbacoa, tripe, chicken) with everything made to order. The salsa is fresh and not that watered down slop you get everywhere else. Chips are fried on the spot. Guac is fire. Orchatta is perfect. Try the Huaraches if you want something different and authentic. Prices are on point with daily specials including a couple $1.50 taco days. Finally, SERVICE. If you're lucky enough to be there when Angie is working you're in for a treat. She is a beyond friendly, beautiful woman who busts her ass to ensure your food hits the mark, you have enough to drink, you have plenty of chips & salsa and you're all set with to-go refills. The food and service were always pretty good. If our family wants tacos this is the place we go to. Unfortunately last night a mistake was made on our order that I didn't notice until getting home. When I called the restaurant I was told by the staff person "we have a sign that says to double check your order" Ok, my bad...now what do we do? We're told to bring the food back and they will remake it. My husband packed up the food and went back to the restaurant to get the correct order. While there my husband was treated like he was try to steal a meal from them. They said they would remake the tacos but not give him the side items (that were included) when he mentioned that he would actually be overpaying at that point the staff member decided that they would just appease him and remake the food. He waited 30 minutes for 2 fish tacos with rice and beans...30 MINUTES! This whole mistake took an hour out of our evenings after we both worked 13 hours shifts ourselves. 15 minutes total drive, 15 minutes to explain our case to the staff member, and 30 minutes cook time. All this because we accidentally got steak instead a fish. That's a mistake most people wouldn't mind but when you don't eat red meat it's a problem. If a frequent customer is taking that much time out of their evening the business should know that they are not being taken advantage of. The staff member also pointed out the NO REFUNDS sign to him. So just be mindful to check your order and if something is wrong you may have to argue to get it right read more

This was my first time here after ive heard so many great things about this place. It's tucked away on the side of a shopping center with its own parking lot that offers plenty of spaces. I came about 9 pm and there were three tables with guests and a slew of people with take out orders waiting for their meals. I was shocked it was busy so late. The inside was old and shows signs of wear and tear but the employees were doing their best to tidy up the the tables and keep it clean. Upon entering you see signs showing you the way to place an order but no one greeted us or said anything until we walked up to the line to place an order. They were offering their taco Tuesday specials for $1.50 with several options for the meat. I deciding on ground beef, chicken and pastor to go! With cilantro and onions and lime on the side along with sides of their green and red sauce. The pastor was flat out the best I've tasted in Fort Wayne. Hands down seasoned so well it made me wish I had order another one. The green sauce added a kick of heat without burning my mouth while the red sauce was pure flavor. By mixing them on each of my tacos made them out of this world. Next was the ground beef and it to was perfect. Last I tried the chicken and was glad I did. It was the most bland meat of the three and their was so much juice that it made my tortilla soggy and fall apart. I won't order chicken again that's for sure. Not even the salsas made it better. Each taco was served with two corn tortilla shells, meat that is plentiful and toppings that aren't skimpy either. You have the option of getting them one of two ways; cilantro and onion (my preference), or lettuce cheese and tomato. Nah this isn't Taco Bell! Each taco is made to order so they're fresh. The tortillas even stood Up to the 10' drive home, except for the chicken one. The kitchen and dining room are galley style but the dining room had those mexican painted tables and chairs that are fun to sit at. There's a tv that was playing Hispanic music videos and there's a fountain soda machine in the back for self serve soda if you purchase a cup from the counter. Menu board is on the wall with limited options and imo a tad pricey for their offerings. Chips and salsa are $5, they aren't free if you sit down and dine. Def will come back again. The famous taco has only been open for about two months now. Let's just say this place is real quality. When the options around are ...chipotle... I really hope that people will adventure down this side road and give this place a try. Whenever I visit the area I never can find "real" tacos. This is the place! I am so excited to share it! The menu is clear with different daily specials. They have burritos, tacos, salads... etc. with steak (best quality I have found in a long time!), chicken, barbacoa, chorizo, pastor, ground beef, carnitas, veggie, and lengua. The red and green sauce you have to ask for but they are refrigerated. If there's one thing that grosses me out is old red and green sauce on the tables. This place does it right... you can't go wrong! They have plenty of parking and seating. I only get water with tacos but The Famous Taco Mexican Grill has a brand new fountain drink machine. You can mix in different flavors!! I will have to try it out next time. They also sell beer. I think the best part is the drive thru! Seriously?!? What more could you ask for! We read all of the great reviews and decided to go on spur of the moment. Locally owned, small and very friendly. Not your usual chain Mexican. We ordered the beef burrito, which I had to eat with a knife and fork because it was so big. We also got chips and salsa. A nice size order and the salsa is not thick but has good flavor. What a happy person who takes your order. She was so friendly and patient as we looked at the menu since it was our first time. When you enter they have a specials board which I ordered the two shrimp tacos from the special board. 2 tacos, 2 kinds of rice and beans for $8.99. It all was made to order fresh in front of you. I just moved to FW from DC. I was looking for some authentic mexican food and was recommended this spot by a friend. The first time I tried, they told me that shrimp isn't a meat and therefore I couldn't ask for a shrimp quesadilla. Fair enough, I got shrimp tacos instead. They were okay at best. Today I went and I ordered shrimp tacos again and was charged more than the quoted price on the drivethru menu. They told me there was a surge charge on shrimp. They didn't inform me of the charge until I got to the window. So I attempted to change my order -- I literally wanted one less taco. The woman refused to change my order and told me to pay or get out of line. Literally the rudest customer service I've ever received. I asked over and over for her to just allow me to get one less taco and she refused to let me leave with my order. I asked for her manager and she refused and then told me to once again pay or get out of line. My boyfriend went back to get my food and they claimed that I refused to pay which is completely false. I was told to leave if I didn't want what the woman prepared for me. Personally, there are more authentic mexican places with less hostility and more class. read more
