This is a gorgeous venue with charming views. Food was decent and the servers were definitely hustling. My husband doesn't like dining off paper plates at restaurants so he wasn't happy about the plastic plates for appetizers. Almost seems like the kitchen may not be able to keep up. Not sure if is staffing or logistics. Venue was reservations only the evening we went (which we did have reservations) however not even half of the tables were filled. First, you can't beat the beauty of the scenery and the decor of the interior. In fact I remember visiting there when it truly was a farm. We have visited 4 times in the last year or so, and none of the visits were positive. The first time we were sat in the front room with artificial lights so bright you could perform surgery. The second time, we were in an area that we got ignored and the service was awful. The third time we took out of town guests and the food was mediocre. The final straw today was we were visiting a local town where old, historic tours were being held and after visiting, we thought let's go to The Farm for a bite to eat. They turned us away because they technically weren't open until 3:00 and there was a private party in the back. The management lost an opportunity to partner with this small town to have special hours to coincide with the house tours. Especially since they already had kitchen open and the staff onsite. One of my favorite local restaurants...You can't beat the view surrounding this farm house restaurant. A slice of country that is breathtaking. The food is just as good. I usually order their mushroom ravioli, side salad, and split desert with whomever I'm dining with. Their stuffed ravioli has many additional stuffing options and I like it prepared with olive oil drizzled on top. Their house salad is one of a kind. Always fresh, large portion, many ingredients, and in my opinion, best paired with their house dressing. My desert of choice is usually always creme brûlée, a homemade recipe. This restaurant advertises using some of the freshest local ingredients and I take their word for it as they've always tasted fresh during my meals. Service has always been great. One recommendation is to make a reservation ahead of time if possible although walk-ins are welcome. This restaurant is suitable for children but also a place couples and other parties dine at for a quieter meal so I politely recommend a different restaurant if children being considered are typically loud or active during meal time. My overall rating would be a 4.5 if possible so I'll honor it with a 5 since it's pretty much perfect. read more

I've been to The Farm several times and have always been very satisfied with the food and the service. I've known Sally, the owner, for many, many, years. She's the type of woman that would not serve food that was not up to her standards. The restaurant itself is unique and has a very homey feel to it. If you can get a reservation around the holidays, you will see the most beautiful decorations, and the whole ambiance is warm and inviting. I can't pick an item in the menu to recommend . Everything I've ever had was wonderful!! Definitely a place to go whether it be a special occasion or just a Saturday night out. Went to The Farm again last week for a girls night. I had the special which was seafood cannelloni with lobster cream sauce. It was amazing. 2 of the ladies had the lobster pot, and the other had their fried cod. Everybody was very pleased with the food. One of the sides that we all ordered was the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and onion. Yum! We're not from the area but stopped by shortly after they opened at 3:30. Luckily we were able to sit near the kitchen because we met the owner, Sally. She walked us through the menu and made some good suggestions. Everything we had was awesome! The bread, shrimp cocktail, stuffed peppers, paps lobster pot, filet tips, salad, mashed potatoes, and bread pudding (Sally makes twice a day). Fresh and so tasty!! We live more than an hour away but we will be back .. and we will make reservations. I can see why they are so busy!! read more

Still waiting to eat here. Checked the web page in January. It said OPEN. Drove there starving only to find out they closed for the winter. Strike 1. Went a second time. They were open but the service said they just took a party of 20 people and had no room for the two of us, and asked us to try another day. Really? We offered to eat at the bar, but was told they really don't have a bar area. Strike 2. I have eaten here once before and the service and food was great. Why has it been so hard to return? My date owes me the dinner here from a bet. I have yet to collect it since the farm didn't have correct information on their web page, and can't handle 2 more people over their 20 limit??? They've moved into five star territory after today's visit. First off, I feel like they have done an overhaul on service. I've seen multiple reviews mentioning poor service, but every worker I saw today seemed very professional, friendly, and on the ball. But also, I got the chicken cordon bleu special (mainly because it's something I rarely see)--and it was outstanding. Very generous portion, and I don't think I could make any improvements. Zucchini/tomato side dish was very good too. DP got the orange roughy (Not my favorite fish, but she loved it). And I still could gain five pounds on the bread. Oh it's so good. read more

Six of us went to the Farm last night (Thursday night), most of us for the first time. It was a destination night out as we had heard a lot about the place. Unfortunately we had a very mixed experience. The restaurant was not crowded. We didn't have to wait for a table, however once seated it took an inordinately long time for anyone to bring us menus and take a drink order (15-20 minutes). The waiter arrived and started by thanking us for our patience because he was just signing the paperwork on a new car purchase. Huh?!? Could you maybe do that on your own time?!? So we ordered some drinks and appetizers to start. The appetizers (crab stuffed mushrooms and sausage stuffed peppers) came out very quickly and were fantastic, however our drinks were a long time after, and one of our party's beer never arrived (he had to go find it). So then the wait for dinner. It was a looooooong time, which wasn't a big deal because we weren't in any kind of a hurry and were enjoying he company. The meals that came were, well, less than spectacular. I ordered a medium rare steak and got a super well done steak. Read a charred lump of charcoal. (I never send food back - I just ate it). Others got main dishes with no sides. My mother's beef tips were dry little lumps. One of the lobster dishes was supposed to be on linguini but none was to be found. Really just a hodge podge of mistakes and really bad service. At this point we were well over an hour and a half into it so we paid and left. It was really a shame because it had such potential. Charming location. And many rave reviews. We may have just caught it on a bad night, but we would be hard pressed to make that drive again. No thanks! Too many other great places to go. read more

I enjoy going to The Farm for the food. I am usually pleased with the quality and taste of the food. However, this is the second time it has happened to me, but I promised my wife I would take it in stride and not make a scene. It is a holiday. We were there today, Easter, a family outing with a closed menu. There were four people in our party. The dinner salads come out, we're on average 1/3 the way through the salad and ALL of the entree shows up. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious and the amount was more than adequate.... But, I still don't think this is supposed to be Olive Garden,( which I deem as fast food), either. So, we couldn't enjoy and digest the salad or bread, because we had warm lazagna and stuffed chicken to 'devour.' So as I promised, I didn't send it back. If it were my meal, I probably would have sent it back as I did in the past. I enjoy hot, fresh food, not cold, old food. Let's call it my pet peeve of food.... Allow me to eat at my pace, digest and then to the next course.. Why am I rushed? Believe me, I don't eat slow.... With all of this said, I give it 2 stars because of the food, and negative for the timing, or lack there of, between the kitchen and the wait staff. Will I be back? Yes, I enjoy the food. However, as I told my wife, I'm going to tell the wait staff NOT to start my main course until I'm done with my salad. Bottom line, 4 people ate a 3 course meal, including dessert and coffee, in 40 Minutes. That is completely unacceptable. If they're going to count the time and tables, they should just tell me that on the menu, and I won't get an appetizer or a salad. That will mitigate my peeve and my stress level. Which in turn will lessen my overall bill by a few glasses of wine and an appetizer or two and they can flip the table faster, for poor service. read more

Overall, disappointing. We were a party of eight. Several members of our party had heard of The Farm and we were all looking forward to our first visit. We were seated outdoors and had a beautiful, pastoral view of the sunset. Our server took our drink orders and things were looking promising. After we placed our orders, the server brought a side dish of cole slaw for one member of our party. There was nothing else on the table. The cole slaw was a side for the diner's entree. Oh, well. The slaw was cold and the temperature was dropping as the sun set. It would keep for the meal. We were served a couple baskets of bread, which was good. We ordered two artichoke dips for appetizers, which were also good. Three entrees came out. One was a salad with salmon. Several minutes passed with no more food. Then, two steaks came out. Manners would suggest we wait until everyone was served. However, given the delays in getting what we had so far, those without meals urged those with meals to go ahead before their food got cold. Several more minutes passed and two more entrees came out. We were still missing a second salad with salmon. I went into the building to find our server and ask about the missing meal. She assured me that it was coming. It finally did come, but the salmon was uncooked. I returned to the building with the uncooked salmon. I could not find our server but an unidentified person asked if he could help me. I asked if he worked there. He said he did and I showed him the raw salmon. The server later came to our table and informed us we would not be charged for the late, raw salmon salad. There was no effort to replace the meal or provide a substitute item. I ordered the prime rib special with baked potato on the side. They both arrived at the table at the same time. The diner with the early cole slaw also ordered a baked potato. His entree arrived sans potato. It finally did arrive about as much too late as the slaw was too early. On average, one may say the sides arrived at the appropriate time. During our visit, the server advised us that they were out of several menu items and the staff was really tired from a big charity event earlier in the day. I guess we were to take some consolation from the fact that even though our dining experience was lacking, the restaurant did something good earlier. We completed our meals. The server did not offer us any dessert, coffee, or anything. She did however mention while she cleared our table that she needed to take away our plates, etc. because the dishwasher wanted to go home. What the comment lacked in hospitality, it made up for in honesty. In fairness, maybe we caught them on a bad day. Maybe the kitchen is not up to turning big tickets at once. The food, when it did arrive, was not bad. If you are a couple or two, you may have a better experience. The live music was superb. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner. Nice family style restaurant in an old farm house. Great home cooking and home made desserts, made fresh daily. Decent prices and small pub. I've been to this place 3 or 4 times (not by my choice) and I hope no one makes me go again. On our most recent visit we were the ONLY people there. There were 6 of us, including my grandparents who we took to celebrate their 64th anniversary. The service was so slow it was surreal. It took 15 min from the time we placed our orders for the one and only side salad to come out. Then, after another million years, the entrees came out and my husband didn't even get what he ordered. (The waiter said he was new and didn't know the menu yet which was obvious, but not an excuse.) While we sat waiting for food, refills, and our bill, we could hear the staff talking and laughing loudly in another room. It's a real shame they felt socializing was more important than caring for their customers. People love this place and I don't know why. On a positive note: I did get the bread pudding once a couple years ago and it was amazing. But, still - not enough for me to go there again. read more

The strong pottery plate and dishes. The warm fireplaces. The bathroom decor. The experience will last long after you have left this place. The staff was friendly and warm. The view outside is all about this country. This place was well worth the drive. There are a few bad reviews on this restaurant which hurt its rating, but somehow even with the different name and photos I think some of the bad review are from the same person. I think if you want fast food you should go to Mcdee. If you can't have a fun time with conversation and good drinks waiting, you should just stay on your couch and order pizza. We ate here on Valentine's Day, and it was a full house. After being seated, it took about 20 minutes before we had to wave down somebody and insist on service. It took about 4 tries to get one of the servers to notice us. Finally a server came to take our drink orders. They apologized and explained it was some sort of mix up with servers. The server we ended up with was somewhat obnoxious, speaking very loud and gesticulating dramatically. We ordered filet tips, 6 cheese mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, and 2 glasses of Cabernet. After the server brought out the food, she disappeared quickly and did not ask if we needed anything else, like A1 sauce. Although the service was sub-par, the food was good. We may try this place out again on a night they aren't so crowded. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, and think they were just overwhelmed by the Valentine's Day crowd. read more

TL;DR: Subpar service and kitchen can't make up for quality pre-packaged spinach dip. From the start, The Farm disappointed. Maybe it's the legal pad-based seating chart, or the laminated menus better served at a Windstream diner, but regardless, this restaurant is not worth your drive. It took at least 15 minutes for water to get to the table and our order to be taken (I watched the time on my watch, so of this I'm sure). [Note: the water tastes funny, and different between glasses.] After that lapse, we had an average wait for our appetizer -- spinach dip that tastes the same as what you get from Sam's Club, with a toss of shredded cheddar cheese on top. I was whelmed. Then, as we approached the 55 minute mark, our entrees finally came. Two orders of chicken parm, steak tips, and lobster ravioli. CHICKEN PARM One was black on top, like you would expect from bad middle school cafeteria pizza. The other was passable, but nothing you can't get anywhere else. STEAK TIPS I asked for medium rare, but I got well, and maybe one or two medium. The asparagus that accompanied was thin, watery, and not seasoned at all. LOBSTER RAVIOLI Apparently decent! Huzzah! Overall, a fairly terrible experience, but we didn't complain and just left without having to spend any extra time in the restaurant. We went on a Saturday before Father's Day. First we had the appetizer of bread, cheese and basil. Small portion but the meal did not take long. Salads came before appetizer. I had the prime rib, came w s nice size baked potato and asparagus, husband had the steak , same sides . My son had the chicken parm came with ravioli. We all enjoyed our meals . I had the cheesecake which was very good. I thought the prices were reasonable. The feel of the place is country and quaint. Service was good as well. I would make a reservation. My son heard them turn folks away and there were many open tables. He said they said they were closing the kitchen early. So they were. not taking a full dining night. The three stars are for the charm and the bread. We ordered a rib eye and baked potato and steamed veggie of the day. Let me just tell you that this "rib eye" was really a cheap sirloin. It was inedible. And the potato was lukewarm and had the texture of plays oh. And I got 3...yes 3 small florets of broccoli. The local Raven something wine was too awful to review.
