Fantastic I like totally flew by the seat of my pants when I planed the West Virginia portion of our trip. Wheeling seemed to be somewhere in the vicinity of our drive to Morgantown tomorrow so I decided to stay the night. Looking for a place for dinner, I stumbled upon this place on Yelp in wheeling. Little did I know what an iconic place this is. We arrived at 5:15 on a Wednesday evening bc we are getting old. A couple leaving at 5:15 made us see our future. We were fortunately seated immediately. The inside is SO CUTE. I can't get enough of it. It felt like such an authentic Italian experience. Our server was incredible. So nice, personable, helpful. We started with our beverage orders. I went with a little something off their cocktail menu the elderflower martini which, exactly as I expected, was way more like spiked juice than a "martini" but I wouldn't want it any other way. Don't think I wasn't intrigued by the fried cheese but we have been eating a fair amount of that lately so instead of offering an app, I opted for an entree (stuffed rigatoni) and a side of broccoli. GF ordered fettuccine with red clam sauce. She got a house salad and I didn't for some reason. The broccoli was seasoned wonderfully but the texture wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. The rigatoni and the house sauce was ORGASMIC. That sauce is incredible I would gladly buy it by the jar. The rigatoni were al dente pillows of creamy ricotta heaven. Spectacular. Words can not express this experience. We were heading home to VA from Cincinnati. Hubby found this place on yelp with rave reviews. It was a Monday evening. We arrived and thought maybe we are a little underdressed for this place. So we asked for outside seating. There was a couple with a kiddo out there it was quiet and not as cold as inside. Very nice. Drinks? Asked the waitress "do you have sweet and is it good!?" "Oh yes!" She replied. Me and my grandson agreed on sweetea. She brought it out and it was quite weak and had an odd taste. Yuh, they don't have filtered water. So it's WV chlorinated. We ordered an appetizer and it came quickly. 2 Ribeyes medium and medium rare. And a cod filet. The cod came out 45 min before the steaks. We kept being told by the waitress and owner I'm guessing "just a few more minutes!" An hour after sitting down maybe longer two well don't steaks were sat infront of hubby and grandson. Absolutely not! We were going to suck it up but it wasn't cheap. So the guy said he'd take and replace the steaks. 30 ish min later the steaks came out still overdone. They gave us no discounts brought out an entire other full serving of food. Over 2 1/2 hours total. We were going to serve the overcooked meet to our dogs and they wouldn't even eat the meat or the bone. I saw that this restaurant won James Beard award for their sauce. It was time to revisit this restaurant when we came in town to visit my parents. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan, which was delicious. My husband had the chicken Parmesan. My Mom had a seafood dish and my nephew had steak. All were delicious! Our server was friendly, timely and hospitable. The ambiance is cozy. In my opinion, they could brighten it up on the inside so it's not so dark. Great food and service! It was my first time here and I really enjoyed it. The restaurant is small but cozy with tons of old pictures hung up on the walls giving it that true authentic Italian vibe. Our waitress was friendly and went above and beyond the whole time we were there. They give you bread and butter with your meal and it was really good. I ordered wedding soup and ate every last bite or sip of it. For my entree I went with the classic spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious. Stopped in without a reservation on a Friday evening. The exterior of the building looks impeccably maintained and the parking lot was nearly full, but we got a spot. The restaurant was quite busy, but we were able to dine at the bar. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks which were served promptly followed by two entrees. My entree was a chicken parm with pasta. It was cooked to perfection with a sauce that was a bit tart. It also came with a lemon. I had a tiramisu for dessert which was also very tasty. The restaurant is like a time capsule dating to the 1950's. It was somewhat dimly lighted, which provided a very comfortable mod for dining. The meals were not inexpensive, but we felt they were a good value. The bartender was willing to chat as much as a guest desired. There is a room in the back with several slot machines and a dedicated following. The meal was the highlight of the several days we spent in Wheeling. If we ever return, it will be first on our list, but we will make reservations this time. read more

6 Stars!! The food, service, and feel of the place were all perfect. One of the best dining experiences I can remember. The place has been run by the same family for 60 some years and is still packed. You can see the pride and I'm pretty sure I recognized some employees from the last time we were here 3 years ago. The waitress was amazing and anticipated all our needs and made us out-of-towners feel very welcome. We also enjoyed how the place was both busy and intimate and provided for quiet conversation. The food was ALL amazing! I had the stuffed Eggplant Parm and could not stop eating even when I was full. The Mushroom and Brie Soup was very unique and very delicious. Even the Italian dressing on my salad would make me want to eat here again and recommend the place to anyone who asks me. We will have to come back when we are in town again because there are about 15 more things on the menu I want to try. read more

Figaretti's has a great old school ambiance and grandmother style Italian food. The food is some of the best in WVa. Great martinis and an awesome vibe that the family loves. The only drawback is that when you drop $250 on a delicious meal sometimes the waitresses aren't always up to the same level everything else is. Everyone has an off night and the food is delicious so give it a try. It's a small and intimate dining room, so you really should make reservations, although sometimes they can squeeze you in at the bar. read more

We had dinner at our go to restaurant in Wheeling today and it was great as always! Our server was upbeat, all smiles, and helpful. I had the Fig Appetizer over Fettuccine and my husband had the Spaghetti with Meat sauce and a Meatball. Both were very, very good and large portions. We love the darkened atmosphere with dark wood and soft benches. It is very romantic. And the owners both stopped by our table to make sure everything was great. My family stopped here for a late lunch on the way to Kentucky. It's small but quaint. The servers were very nice. The food was delicious and the portion size generous. My mom and I got a cup of mushroom Brie bisque soup. It was the largest "cup" of soup I've ever had. My husband got a bowl and he commented that he would have gotten the cup if he knew how large it was. My uncle got the Italian wedding soup. He said it was very good. I got the house salad. It was very fresh. My mom and uncle each got a salad with grilled chicken. They said they were very good. The salads came with potato wedge type fries, yummy My husband got the fish sandwich. We had a delicious dinner at Figaretti's during our annual Fall trip to Oglebay Park. We have been bringing our family here for decades and the quality and service are as excellent as they have always been. We enjoyed ravioli, pasta with clams, veal parm and strip steak with peppers--all delicious. The homemade spumoni and cannoli were a great finish. Drink and wine pours are generous. We love the old school Italian atmosphere of Figaretti's--our server was attentive and friendly and Dino, one of the owners, came over to chat. Was great. We went to the Palace of Gold, and stopped here for the first time. We got a lunch special, 4 meatballs with add on of cheese, onions and peppers. It's comes with a salad, and we added one. We weren't too hungry but we knew we needed something for the walking we were going to do at the Palace. They also give you a loaf of bread and butter, it was so good. I added a side of sauce and it was more than enough for two. I'll be back for sure. Service was great. The food was poor. We ate here Saturday night 12.14.24 while staying at Hampton inn. Yelp gave good reviews so we tried ordering. I first was hung up on when I asked if they deliver which is on yelp and there to go bag that they deliver. I called back to order pick up, we got their md blue crab ravioli and stuffed shells. The crab ravioli was inedible with their Chardonnay cream sauce. I ordered the stuffed shells which were supposed to be stuffed with spinach instead we got 4 shells with spinach on the side that tasted bitter. The soup portions for the up charge were tiny. The bread they gave us was sliced white bread we could have bought a loaf for $2 at the grocery store. read more

I'm not sure why there are several negative reviews about this place, but maybe they just don't enjoy good Italian food. We were in town for another event and stopped in for dinner. For a Tuesday night at 7:45 pm, we thought It was extremely busy, but fortunately a table was open when we arrived. The hostess who seated us was very friendly, as was Adria, our server. She seemed to be working a lot of tables, but took time with us, and when she learned we had not been there before, went above and beyond to make sure we will be back again. We started with lobster bisque and Italian wedding soup. We chose the signature marinara sauce on our pasta, which came with a nice salad and some tasty bread. We were quite full, but got chocolate mousse cake to go. One piece did not make it back on the 2-hour drive home! LOL The place is small, and has a homey ambience. We are there last night. They were super busy on a. Tuesday night but our fifteen minute wait was comfortable and well worth it. The food was terrific. The pork chop was mind blowing. My husband and I have driven by this exit off of Rte 70 many times and wanted to stop to check out Figaretti's. The timing just never worked. We live about an hour away in the Pittsburgh South Hills. Today, we just felt like an adventure so we made the drive for an early dinner. It was so worth it. The vibe is cool old school Italian. The staff was amazing. The owner stopped by our table to thank us for coming in and comped us a jar of their amazing sauce. (Nice touch Dino!) The bread service was wonderful. We enjoyed lobster ravioli and short rib ravioli. Both were fabulous. The entrees came with a house salad. It was fresh and wonderful. We had the house dressing with crumbled bleu cheese. Yum! The waitress was friendly and accommodating. They are willing to switch up anything on the menu to accommodate special requests. We ended with a cannoli-perfection! We felt like we were family. I placed my carryout order by using the online option on Figaretti's website. The food was hot, ready on time and the young lady who helped me was very nice. Once I was back at my hotel I discovered my combination appetizer was missing the meatballs, my side of brussel sprouts were missing, and I ordered chicken Marsala but was given chicken Parmesan. I called the restaurant, I spoke nicely with a different woman and I was immediately told they haven't had brussel sprouts in over two years...and then there is silence. She stated it as if I should have known! After the silence I then asked, why is it on your menu? She said it's a third party vendor and they have always had problems with them correcting their menu. After exchanging a few question/sentences she made me feel like this was my fault since I used the third party vendor...that THEIR WEBSITE sends you to. I proceeded to tell her about the missing meatballs and the chicken parmesan. She offered to refund me on the brussel sprouts and chicken Parmesan. I asked her...what about the meatballs? She then said she would refund the entire bill, but sounded annoyed. What made this such a bad experience was her talking to me like I was at fault, and I received absolutely no apology during the entire conversation. BTW notice "brussel sprouts" on my receipt. Was asked upon seating would we like some garlic bread & then our drink orders. We opted for a bottle of cabernet - price point was reasonable. Salad comes with your dinner & all dressing are homemade & they are nice portion size. We decided on classic Chicken parm & Veal marsala. Both dishes were delicious & perfect portion size. The Chicken parm & Pasta on the side are topped with their classic red sauce that if you want to purchase they sell by the jar! The Veal marsala was amazing. Fresh, tender cutlet & served with penne & a light creamy marsala sauce. We ordered a cannoli to split and it was fresh, flavorful & packed with classic canoli cream. Figaretti's has decent food, though I'm not a fan of the value they provide for your money. The service leaves a lot to be desired as well, which I will expand on here in a moment. I've gotten takeout from them several times before, and while it hasn't been "bad", it hasn't been anywhere near the quality level I would hope to get from such a pricey place. On the most recent occasion, one of the people I ordered with had their entree selection replaced with a completely different one, and when we called to inquire about it, their response was "oh yeah, we don't carry that one anymore". We ordered off of YOUR online menu, so it not being up to date is 100% on you. Also, wouldn't you call the customer back (they did have our number) to arrange a different order rather than assuming you know the best replacement for them? This all smacks of sub-par service, not a great approach to things. The food itself is decent but forgettable. It doesn't travel all that well, though I imagine that would be far less of a problem for those dining in once that resumes. The parking lot is on the small side but seems to be enough to handle things on most evenings. I can't speak to the restaurant's interior since I have not had the opportunity to see it yet. There aren't many upscale Italian places in this area, so maybe Figaretti's figures it can carry on the way it does. They may be surprised when some of their customers decide that if they are going to be getting generic Italian food, they may as well get it an affordable price from places like Undo's. Overall: 2.5 stars ---- Pros: - Food is decent (if not great). - Restaurant exterior looks nice and is clean. After a 6.5 hours drive we checked in at the Hampton Inn that was about a mile and a half away from this place. The hotel gave us a list of recommendations for places to eat. This was one of the best recommendations I have received. Place is wonderful not fancy but is that old school rustic Italian. Food,staff and vibe was very comfortable and inviting.
