This place has not been open long, and the word has not spread yet. I eat at restaurants all the time, travel a lot, and am a bit of a foodie, so I hope this place gets the recognition that it deserves. A real chef works here and it shows. I went in with 5 other people who also had not eaten here before. We each ordered different things to share. There was not a SINGLE dish that we did not love from the salads to desert. Everything that you may recognize as common fare is in fact expertly made with specific touches that makes it out of the ordinary. The shrimp and polenta was the best I have had, expertly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. The shrimp were fat, juicy and not over cooked. Try the meat pie appetizers. The pastry is perfectly flaky and the filling is spot on. The creme brulee has a touch of vanilla bean that makes it stand out. The cheesecake is nothing short of amazing. I had heard good things about it. I was unaware that the opened at 5pm for dinner. We arrived at about 5:10, we were the only people in the place when we got there. I ordered shrimp and grits, the grits had been made much earlier in the day and it was not even warmed through before they added the shrimp to the top. My husband had the catfish. He swore it was Swai and not pond raised catfish. For what we received to eat the price was too much. At least I can say I tried it. I won't spend my money there again. The service was slow. I had a appetizer special of mussels and main dish was the shrimp and polenta, they were both delicious. The menu description for the shrimp/polenta is very non-descript. It's served in a delicious creamy garlic creole sauce. So good! You can't taste the jalapeño in case you might be worried about it being spicy. The service was friendly and prompt. My husband and I went here for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. The food was very disappointing, especially considering how great the reviews are. I had to send back my grilled catfish because it was so tough I couldn't cut it with a fork. My husband's sweet potato fries were sent back by the manager before they even reached the table. I don't know how one begins to mess up fries. They were incredibly slow that day, so every problem was exacerbated because it took forever to resolve it. They did attempt to remedy the situation by giving us a free desert (which also took a long time to arrive) but I honestly would have just preferred our money back. read more

Fantastic dining experience! Food was well thought out, menu was simple but plenty of variety. Fried mushrooms to start would of made a great meal in itself! Had a full bar, with a wide range of wines and beers to compliment any meal. I had shrimp and fried grits, the shrimp was cooked perfect with just enough spice. My partner also had a delicious shrimp meal. As good as dinner was, I believe desert was better! We had cheesecake and bread pudding, both were excellent. I plan to make this a regular place to eat at, looking forward to what comes out of the kitchen. The service was excellent, waiter well versed in serving and in the details of the food. This is my favorite restaurant in Monroe. It is the best kept secret in dining. The food is wonderful and the service is impeccable. I have the chicken pasta and I am always pleased . This restaurant is locally owned and the owners are on-site. We had a wonderful server named Tyler. They have a full bar here and Tyler makes a killer Long Island! The chef (owner) and his wife are a fun-loving couple who want you to enjoy your experience. One appetizer that is a MUST try is the fried pickled okra with spicy ketchup - tasty! Okay this place is amazing! We traveled from Rayville to pick something up for dinner and we literally picked this place because of the fun name! And even though we got to the restaurant 30 minutes before closing (because we got lost on the way there Lol) they still let us in! Everything was very delicious, hot and fast. You really can't go wrong with ordering anything off the menu because everything is so well thought of and prepared. And not to mention that this was the cutest restaurant ever! I loved the decor and low (but not too low) lighting. Definitely makes you feel a little fancy but with a rustic twist. And Zack, the waiter was the sweetest person ever! We apologized multiple times for getting there so late and he made sure we were comfortable and happy. He was so fun and helpful when it came too picking something off the menu (because everything sounds sooo good!), definitely someone you want to have as a waiter. New restaurant to monroe area. Has a very clean and well decorated atmosphere and a quiet place to dine. Food was just ok but service was great. My husband got Shrimp and grits dish and grits were better than the shrimp. Tails were also left on Shrimp. I got the pelican burger med well but it came out well done with burnt marks on patty which messed up the flavor. The hand cut fries were tasty and the best part of this dish as well. Ate at the Fat Pelican last night with a couple of friends. Entering the restaurant, I was pleased at the decor and excited to have a good meal. Placed my order, the $32 ribeye. About 30 minutes later, my food arrived and at first glance, I was sorely disappointed. Very small and thin ribeye, over cooked and chewy (I ordered it cooked medium). The brocollini was cold and unpalatable. The potatoes were average. The steak had a nice char and seasoning was good, but I could've had a better steak for much less money at a Golden Corral. Music was a nice touch, guy playing acoustic guitar was very good and it was a nice and not overbearing addition to our meal. Sadly, they won't get another $85 from me or $100 from the couple we went with. read more

The good: the food was outstanding - fresh and cooked perfectly, not overly seasoned. A perfect Cuban club sandwich. Best fried onion rings ever and the best cheesecake I've ever tasted! The bill was VERY reasonable!! The atmosphere is relaxed and contemporary. The not-so-good: the staff dress code is very sloppy: tee shirts and shorts, while the clientelle were all dressed neatly in business casual. I was almost put-off by the contrast from the start. Need to upgrade staff dress to at least tees and chino PANTS. Had a great meal here last night. I had the grilled shrimp and veggies. Cooked to perfection and tasted fresh. DH had filet and said it was very good. Our friends had the special: grilled redfish and mussels, they said the mussels were as good as they have had anywhere. Went to this place with co-workers for lunch this week. I got the Turkey Panini and fries. Super good! My co-workers got a variety of items. One got the buffalo shrimp, a burger and fries, and a shrimp pasta dish. All were very good. We were all very pleased. The one slight downside was the wait time with getting our check. Tried the place last night. We both had burgers. I had the all American, and my dinner mate had the Pelican burger. Both were incredibly done, awesome presentation, and wonderful flavor. My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at The Fat Pelican last night. I can honestly say that the ribeye was the best steak I've eaten in Monroe, and likely ever had. Yeah, it was that good. Few places these days have confidence in their food to let the steak's flavor -- enhanced only with salt and pepper -- to speak for itself. Usually steaks are heavily marinated or encrusted in pepper. Not so here. It was truly delicious. The presentation was very good, with the steak served on top of mashed potatoes and vegetables, with a sauce/gravy that complemented the entire dish. To top it off we shared the bread pudding and creme brule. Both were excellent. This was our first visit. It will not be our last. read more

I guess I just ordered wrong. I got the brisket Po boy and fries. It was not very good. Brisket was fatty and slathered in sauce with a smattering of cole slaw on it. Way more bread than anything. I would not recommend at all. My husband however got the pork chop and it was good. Took it down to 3 stars because the potatoes tasted instant and you didn't get a choice on the sides. He had a glass of house cab at $9 a pop. That's a little pricey. On the plus side the server was friendly and provided good service. We are traveling but even if we were locals I don't believe it would be in my top ten. read more

All I can say about this place is I booked it from 3 states away for a VERY special party. Mandi was amazing in the planning and for the party. Elizabeth went above and beyond to make sure everything went perfectly. The place is perfect. The food was more than expected. I would NOT change a thing.
